What is Oritech?

1 part

Oritech is a tech mod packed with animated machinery. You get processing machines, world interaction machines, logistics, energy generation, equipment and even new world generation features. Most machines are animated multiblocks, and you upgrade them by attaching addon blocks.[1][2]

All the Mods 10 4.4 ships the NeoForge build of Oritech 0.16.2, and the mod has been in the pack since 4.0 or earlier.[3]

Oritech is for you if you like building big factories. It gives you multiple ore processing chains, automated farms, item, fluid and energy pipes, drones that move items across long distances, and lasers that mine blocks for you. The mod tries to avoid roadblocks by giving you more than one way to get most things. For example, plastic can come from farming items or from oil processing. It also aims for renewable sources of fuel and metals, which pushes you toward large automated bases and outposts that feed a central hub.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

Oritech has its own quest chapter in this pack. It starts with the core machines and moves up through tiers of machine cores, from the Primitive Machine Core to the Ultra Machine Core.[4]

  1. Gather copper, iron, coal and nickel by mining or from an ore boulder. Gold, redstone and a couple of diamonds will be useful soon after.[5]
  2. Build a Basic Generator (a quest in "?"). It will not make much power, but it gets you started.[4][6]
  3. Get a Pulverizer (a quest in "?") and a Foundry (a quest in "?"). These let you make alloys like steel without wasting resources.[4][7]
  4. Add an Assembler (a quest in "?") and a Centrifuge (a quest in "?"). You will need their components for further progress.[4][8]
  5. Craft an Enderic Laser and a Target Designator (a quest in "?"). Then aim the laser at amethyst clusters to get Fluxite (a quest in "?").[4][9]
  6. Later in the chapter you move on to the Atomic Forge (a quest in "?"), advanced chips and the Heisenberg Compensator (a quest in "?"). The chapter ends with the Manhattan Module (a quest in "?").[4]
Tip: Oritech's in-game guide strongly recommends using REI or EMI to find recipes, and the mod works best with EMI.[1][10]

How do you get started with Oritech?

6 parts

Welcome to Oritech! Before you craft anything, grab REI or EMI if you can. The mod's own guide strongly recommends one of them for looking up and discovering recipes, and you'll be checking a lot of them.[10]

Step 1: Gather resources

To start, look for an ore boulder or just go mining. You'll need copper, iron, coal and nickel right away. Gold, redstone and a couple of diamonds will be useful soon after, so collect those while you're out.[5]

Step 2: Your first power

Every Oritech machine needs energy to run, so your first build is a Basic Generator. It won't produce nearly enough power long term, but it's enough to get you going. When you need more, build extra generators or look at the other generator types. The pack has a quest for it too: a quest in "?".[4][6][11]

Tip: Machines take items in through the top only. The sides can both insert and extract, and the bottom only allows extraction. You don't need a wrench: a pickaxe breaks machines and they drop their items. Any stored energy and fluids are lost, though.[11]

Step 3: Pulverizer and Foundry for alloys

Crafting your alloys by hand in a crafting table works, but it wastes resources. Build a Pulverizer and a Foundry as soon as you can so your alloying is more efficient. In this pack the Foundry quest a quest in "?" also asks for 4 Adamant Ingot, and the Pulverizer has its own quest, a quest in "?".[4][7]

Step 4: Assembler and Centrifuge

Next, build an Assembler. It can craft some things more efficiently than you can, and it can craft some things you are not able to craft at all. The quest a quest in "?" wants 2 Magnetic Coil and 2 Motor from it.[4][8]

Then build a Centrifuge. You'll need it to process resources and make components for later progress. Two important ones are Carbon Fibre Strands, which quest a quest in "?" asks for 4 of, and Enderic Compound, covered by quest a quest in "?".[4][8][12]

Step 5: Lasers and fluxite

You need Fluxite before you can progress much further, and crafting an Enderic Laser builds on all of the previous steps. In this pack the quest a quest in "?" asks for the laser and a Target Designator, and it unlocks after the Assembler and Foundry quests.[4][9]

  1. Place the Enderic Laser and power it with a generator.[9]
  2. Select an amethyst cluster with the Target Designator, then shift+right-click the bottom laser block to assign the target. The maximum range is 64.[13]
  3. Grown amethyst clusters turn into fluxite when the laser destroys them. Budding amethyst isn't broken; the laser makes it grow faster instead.[9][13]
  4. Collect 4 fluxite for quest a quest in "?".[4]
Watch out: You only set a direction, so the laser also destroys blocks in front of and behind your target. Any drops that don't fit in its inventory are lost, so pipe items out. A redstone signal turns the laser off.[13]

Bonus: better ore yields

Once you have a Pulverizer, the quest a quest in "?" points you to the Fragment Forge. It breaks ores into clumps and small clumps for better yields. Craft 9 small clumps into a clump, then put the clumps through the Centrifuge to get dusts you can smelt. Both machines can also produce secondary ores, like platinum from nickel.[4][14]

How does Oritech work?

7 parts

Every Oritech machine needs energy to run. Sides matter too: the top of a machine is item-input only, the sides can both insert and extract, and the bottom only allows item extraction. Keep that in mind when you plan your pipe connections.[11]

You break machines with a plain pickaxe, and no wrench is needed. When a machine is destroyed, the items inside always drop, but any stored energy and fluids are lost. Drain a machine before you move it if its contents matter.[11]

Multiblocks and machine cores

Some machines need extra machine cores placed at specific positions around them. The machine's tooltip tells you how many cores it needs, and cores can't be shared between machines. Place the machine first, then right-click it: the spots that need cores light up for a few seconds. You can also right-click the machine with a core in your hand to place the next core automatically. This only works if the spot is clear; if something is in the way, that block gets highlighted instead.[15]

Each core has a quality, and better cores raise the machine's total quality. You can check it by hovering over the machine icon in the top left of the UI. Quality doesn't change how the machine runs. It only decides how many addons you can attach, so if you don't plan to use addons, the cheapest cores are fine.[15]

Heads up: this pack uses its own recipe for the Improved Machine Core, so don't rely on a recipe you remember from other packs.[12]

Addons

Oritech upgrades machines with addons. These are blocks you attach to the machine itself or to a connected machine extender. They can increase speed or energy efficiency, give access to specific inventory slots and more. Machines only accept addons at specific positions, which you can see on the "addons" page of the UI or from the markers on the machine.[16]

Addons activate when you right-click the machine. When an addon is in use, its pink parts turn blue, so you can see at a glance whether it's connected.[16]

To get more addon slots, use a Machine Addon Extender. Extenders don't affect the machine directly, but addons placed on them count towards the machine they're connected to. Core quality limits how deep you can chain them. A machine with a core quality of 1 can't use any extender, and each extender that goes through another extender needs 1 more quality. Only the number of extenders between the machine and an addon counts, not how many extenders you have in total, so branching extenders out works fine.[16]

The Machine Addon Extender also has a pack-specific recipe in this pack.[12]

Here's what some of the common addons do, based on the in-game guide:[13][17][18][19][20]

  • The Speed Addon increases both movement and operation speed on machines that work on machine frames. On an enderic laser hunting mobs, it increases damage but lowers energy efficiency.[13][17]
  • The Yield Addon makes the fragment forge produce extra byproducts, and it makes mobs killed by a hunting enderic laser drop more loot.[13][18]
  • The Fluid Addon lets the centrifuge process oil or wheat into plastic sheets.[19]
  • The Crop Filter Addon makes the block destroyer skip crops that aren't fully grown, and it stops a hunting enderic laser from killing baby animals.[13][20]
  • Each Quarry Addon multiplies the block destroyer's range by 8, giving 8 range with one addon, 64 with two and 512 with three.[20]
  • The Hunter Addon makes an enderic laser target mobs instead of blocks.[13]

Energy

Oritech machines run on RF. There's only one cable tier, the Energy Pipe, and it transfers up to 10k RF/t. Generators always output energy. All other machines accept energy from every side and never pass it on. If a cable can't deliver its energy, it stores up to 10k RF in each machine connection.[21]

To buffer power, use energy storage blocks, which come in 2 sizes: the Portable Energy Storage and the Large Energy Storage. Addons can expand them massively. They accept energy on every side with a green port and output only through the single red port. A redstone signal disables all energy output.[21]

You can also send power wirelessly with an enderic laser. When it targets a block that stores energy, such as any machine, it fills that machine's energy storage while ignoring input and output limits. This can even power machines that won't accept energy from cables. Only speed upgrades help with energy transfer. Some machines depend on this: energy pipes can't connect to the atomic forge, and the bedrock extractor must be powered by enderic lasers.[13][22][23]

  • The basic generator burns fuel like a furnace and makes 32 RF/t.[24]
  • The lava generator burns lava fed in with a fluid pipe, has 2 addon slots and makes 64 RF/t.[24]
  • The bio generator burns biomass, has 2 addon slots and makes 64 RF/t.[24]
  • The large solar panel makes between 32 RF/t and 224 RF/t, depending on the machine cores you use.[24]
  • The fuel generator burns crude oil or turbofuel, has 2 addon slots and makes 256 RF/t.[24]

Steam power

Every generator except the basic generator can take a Steam Boiler Addon. With the boiler attached, the generator stops making RF and produces steam at a rate of 2:1 instead, using up water. Water and steam are pumped in and out through the addon, not the machine itself.[25]

A steam engine turns that steam back into RF and outputs water, but around 20% of the water is lost, so you need a steady water supply. You can chain several steam engines together. They share the energy storage, water tank and steam tank of the first engine in the line. Engine speed scales linearly with how full the steam tank is, up to a multiplier of 10 when it's full. Efficiency, meaning RF per unit of steam, peaks at around 700% speed and drops above or below that. Energy comes out of the red machine slots, and fluid ports are marked blue.[25]

Item logistics

The Opaque Item Pipe connects to other pipes and to all neighbouring inventories, but the pipes have no inventory of their own. That means hoppers and similar blocks can't push items into them. Instead, right-click a pipe block that's connected to something to set it to extract. Every connection on that pipe block switches to extraction mode, and the network needs at least 2 blocks to actually move anything.[26]

Extracted items go to the closest available inventory further down the network, and a network can be at most 64 blocks long. Split anything longer.[26]

Watch out: Pipes always extract from the first non-empty slot of an inventory. If that item can't go anywhere in the network, it blocks the pipe from extracting anything else from that inventory, so one stray item can stall a whole line.[26]

To sort items, place an Item Filter next to the target inventory. It has 5 input sides and always outputs to the side it faces. It only accepts items that match the filter set in its UI, and it won't pull items from neighbouring inventories by itself.[26]

For long distances, the Drone Port flies items between two powered ports. Bind the target with a target designator and put the designator into the sending port's special slot. The target must be at least 50 blocks away and chunk-loaded. A port sends to only one target but can receive from several, though each landing takes a few seconds and a busy receiver can get overloaded. Delivery time is the same at any distance, but energy cost rises with the square root of the distance.[27]

Fluid logistics

The Fluid Pipe works much like item pipes. It extracts from all neighbouring blocks when set to extract. Unlike item pipes, it has a small internal storage on each connection, and other blocks can push fluids into it, which the pipe then moves to the next available fluid storage.[28]

The Portable Tank stores up to 256 buckets and keeps its contents when you break it. A comparator reads its fill level, and stacked tanks automatically let fluid flow down.[28]

The Pump extends a trunk downward until it finds a liquid or an obstruction, then scans the whole liquid body and remembers every position to drain. Setting up on a big target can take a few seconds. It pumps up to 4 buckets per second into its internal storage, at 512 RF per block.[29]

This pack also has Ender IO compatibility recipes for the Fluid Pipe and the Pump.[12]

Redstone and automation

A few blocks handle redstone on their own: a comparator reads the portable tank's contents, and a redstone signal switches off the portable energy storage's output. Every other machine needs a Control Unit Addon. You attach it like any other addon and configure it in the UI. A comparator then reads the data from the addon, not from the machine, and a redstone signal to the addon disables the machine.[30]

The block placer, block destroyer and fertilizer all run on a gantry built from Machine Frame. The frame marks the work area, and it must be rectangular and empty inside. These machines always work on the blocks below the frame and cycle through every block in the area. You can put any number of machines on the same frame, and most addons work on them.[17]

Tip: An enderic laser puts the blocks it breaks into its inventory, and anything that doesn't fit is lost. Hook an item pipe up to it to keep the drops flowing out.[13]

How do you progress through Oritech?

6 parts

Oritech has its own quest chapter in the pack. Most of the early quests branch from the same starting point, so you can grab your first machine core, generator, pipes and basic machines in whatever order suits you. After that, the chapter funnels you through a few key unlocks: alloys and the Assembler, then the Enderic Laser and Fluxite, then the Atomic Forge and its endgame components.[4]

Getting started

Before you build anything, gather copper, iron, coal and nickel. Gold, redstone and a couple of diamonds will be useful soon after, so grab those too.[5]

  1. Make a Primitive Machine Core for a quest in "?".[4]
  2. Build a Basic Generator for a quest in "?". It won't make nearly enough power, but it's enough to get you started. When you need more, build more generators or try the other generators.[4][6]
  3. Get a Pulverizer (a quest in "?") and a Foundry with 4 Adamant Ingot (a quest in "?"). You can make alloys in a crafting table, but that wastes resources, so build the pulverizer and foundry as soon as you can.[4][7]
  4. Build the Assembler for a quest in "?". It crafts things like coils and motors more efficiently than you can by hand, and it makes some items you can't craft at all. It unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for 2 Magnetic Coil and 2 Motor, and a quest in "?" for a Processing Unit.[4][8]
  5. Build a Centrifuge for a quest in "?". It leads to a quest in "?" for Enderic Compound. Together with the pulverizer quest, it also unlocks a quest in "?" for 4 Carbon Fibre Strands.[4]

Lasers and Fluxite

Once you've done the Assembler and Foundry quests, a quest in "?" asks for an Enderic Laser and a Target Designator. You'll need Fluxite before you can get much further. To get it, use the designator to aim the laser at an amethyst cluster. The budding amethyst isn't broken. Instead it gets energized and grows faster.[4][9]

The laser quest opens up a quest in "?" for 4 Fluxite, a quest in "?" for Plutonium Dust and a quest in "?" for the Hunter Addon. After you finish the Fluxite and Processing Unit quests, a quest in "?" asks for a Flux Gate, which you make in the Assembler.[4][12]

After the Foundry quest, a quest in "?" asks for 8 Duratium Ingot. Once you've finished the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests, a quest in "?" unlocks the Atomic Forge. The Atomic Forge can make Duratium, but its quest needs Duratium first. For your first ingots, use one of the pack's alloying or casting recipes in other mods' machines.[4][12]

Oritech also shows up in another quest chapter of the pack. There, a quest in "?" asks for a Magnetic Coil and then leads to a quest in "?" for the Manhattan Module.[31]

Machine core tiers

The core quests form their own chain. a quest in "?" asks for the Improved Machine Core, followed by a quest in "?" for the Advanced Machine Core, a quest in "?" for the Elite Machine Core and a quest in "?" for the Ultra Machine Core.[4]

Watch out: The Improved Machine Core recipe is added by the pack, so it won't match guides written for the mod on its own. Use the recipe shown here.[12]

Addons and side branches

The addon quests all branch from the same point. They cover the Speed Addon (a quest in "?"), Efficiency Addon (a quest in "?"), Capacitor Addon (a quest in "?"), Acceptor Addon (a quest in "?"), Fluid Addon (a quest in "?"), Auxiliary Processing Chamber Addon (a quest in "?") and Machine Addon Extender (a quest in "?").[4]

Watch out: The Machine Addon Extender recipe is also added by the pack.[12]

For better ore yields, the Pulverizer quest leads to the Fragment Forge (a quest in "?"). The forge breaks ores into clumps and small clumps, and 9 small clumps craft into a clump. In this pack, the Centrifuge turns clumps into gems such as Iron Gem, sometimes with a small dust as a byproduct. a quest in "?" asks for one of these gems once you've done the Fragment Forge quest and a Fluid Addon quest.[4][12][14]

The chapter also has side quests you can do at any time: other generators (a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?"), energy storage (a quest in "?"), pipes (a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?"), the Drone Port (a quest in "?"), the reactor controller (a quest in "?") and the Refinery (a quest in "?").[4]

How does Oritech work with other mods?

6 parts

Oritech is well wired into the rest of this pack. The pack changed most of Oritech's ore processing so it hands you All The Ores items instead of Oritech's own versions. On top of that, a lot of Oritech machines take materials from other tech mods, and other mods' machines can make Oritech alloys.[12]

Ore processing gives All The Ores items

In this pack, Oritech's pulverizer, grinding and deep drill recipes output All The Ores materials. For example, raw copper in the pulverizer gives you Copper Dust plus Small Copper Dust. Grinding raw iron gives Iron Clump with small clumps as bonus outputs. A Platinum Resource Node drills into Raw Platinum.[12]

The small leftovers feed back into that system too. Small clumps and small dusts craft into All The Ores clumps and dusts, and small dusts smelt or blast into All The Ores nuggets. Nickel and platinum gems smelt, blast or go through the foundry into Nickel Ingot and Platinum Ingot.[12]

The Atomic Forge also turns Oritech gems into All The Ores dusts in this pack.[12]

Its fluid alloying makes Molten Adamant, Molten Biosteel, Molten Duratium and Molten Energite. You can then cast those into ingots with an Ingot Cast. With a Gem Cast you can also cast Fluxite and Biomass.[12]

Endgame: the Pulsating Black Hole

Oritech's Manhattan Module matters well beyond Oritech itself. The pack added a recipe for the Pulsating Black Hole that needs the Manhattan Module alongside items from many other mods.[12]

You'll run into it in the quests twice. The Oritech chapter asks for it in a quest in "?". The Star chapter also asks for it in a quest in "?", right after a Magnetic Coil quest.[4][31]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Oritech?

4 parts

Oritech has its own quest chapter in this pack, and it covers nearly the whole mod: generators, pipes, processing machines, machine cores, addons, and a long endgame chain that ends in the Manhattan Module. Two more Oritech quests are in another chapter, covered at the end of this section.[4][31]

Starting quests

Most of the chapter branches out from one shared earlier quest. Once that's done, you can pick any of these in whatever order suits you.[4]

Branches

The endgame chain

  1. a quest in "?": craft a Flux Gate. This needs the Fluxite and Processing Unit quests done first.[4]
  2. a quest in "?": build the Atomic Forge. This needs the Duratium, Enderic Compound and Flux Gate quests done first.[4]
  3. a quest in "?": make 8 Silicon Wafer.[4]
  4. a quest in "?": make 4 Advanced Computing Engine.[4]
  5. a quest in "?": make 2 Super AI Chip.[4]
  6. a quest in "?": craft a Heisenberg Compensator.[4]
  7. a quest in "?": build the Manhattan Module. This also needs the Plutonium Pellet quest done first.[4]

Oritech in other chapters

The chapter_2_the_star chapter has two Oritech quests. a quest in "?" asks for a Magnetic Coil, and it leads to a quest in "?", which asks for the Manhattan Module.[31]

What changed in Oritech between versions?

Oritech joined All the Mods 10 in pack version 4.0, arriving as Oritech 0.16.2.[32]

In All the Mods 10 4.4, the pack still ships Oritech 0.16.2, the same version it was added with. If you started with Oritech in 4.0, you're on the same version of the mod in 4.4.[3][32]

Unverified No changelogs for the Oritech jar in this pack were available, so specific changes to the mod's machines, recipes or mechanics can't be confirmed here. Nothing in the pack changelogs shows the pack altering Oritech between 4.0 and 4.4, but that doesn't rule out smaller tweaks the changelogs didn't mention.
