Applied Flux is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.21-2.1.6-neoforge. Store and transfer energy with ME network (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Applied Flux?

2 parts

Applied Flux brings power storage into your ME network. It adds cells that store FE, so your Applied Energistics system can hold energy the same way it holds items and fluids. This pack ships Applied Flux 1.21-2.1.5-neoforge.[1][2]

It's for you if you already run an ME network and want one tidy place to keep and distribute power instead of scattered batteries.[1]

What you get

  • FE storage cells. Capacity is measured in bytes, just like item and fluid cells, and each byte holds 1,048,576 FE by default. That default can be changed in the Appflux config. The biggest cell in the capacity table holds 281,474,976,710,656 FE.[3]
  • Portable flux cells, which are a quarter of the size of the normal FE cells. They can charge the items in your inventory automatically once you install the right upgrade in them.[4]
  • The Flux Accessor, which inputs and outputs the energy stored in your ME network. It has no I/O limits by default, and that can be changed in the config. Its fast mode outputs every tick and may cause lag if heavily used, while normal mode won't.[5]
  • Terminal support. The terminal shows stored energy as a green pseudo-fluid, and you can fill or drain it with energy containers such as batteries or electric tools. Buckets won't work.[1][6]
Tip: The energy in flux cells is separate from AE2's own Energy Cells. The Flux Accessor only deals with FE stored in FE Storage Cells.[5]

Materials and progression

Flux cells need their own materials. Insulating Resin is required for the FE cell housing, and every energy device needs an Energy Processor to route energy through the ME system.[7][8]

The pack touches the mod directly in the Basic Power chapter. The quest "Automated Flux Dust" quest comes after Flux Networks and has you use a Charged Redstone Crystal Block to automate Flux Dust with an XyCraft extractor.[9]

Unverified The sources don't show Applied Flux on the ATM Star quest path, and they don't say exactly where it fits in the wider progression beyond the Basic Power quest.

How do you get started with Applied Flux?

6 parts

Applied Flux lets your ME network store energy (FE) in special cells and hand it out again through a Flux Accessor. The first steps are all about getting one working energy cell, so here's the order I'd go in.[1][10]

Step one: make Insulating Resin

Start with Insulating Resin. It stops stored energy from leaking, and you need it to make FE cell housing, so everything else builds on it.[7]

Crafting Shapeless

Step two: craft the cell housing

Next comes the ME FE Cell Housing. Every FE cell can be assembled from a housing plus a matching storage component.[11]

Step three: build a 1k storage component

The 1k ME Energy Storage Component is your entry-level component. The pack changed this recipe compared to the mod's own version, so check the recipe below rather than relying on other guides.[11]

Step four: assemble your first FE cell

Combine the component with the housing and you get a 1k ME FE Storage Cell. That's your first energy storage for the ME network.[11]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appflux:1k_fe_cell_assemble

Cell capacity works in bytes, like AE2's item and fluid cells. The in-game guide says every byte holds 1,048,576 FE by default, and that this can be changed in the Appflux config.[3]

Step five: get energy out with a Flux Accessor

Cells only store energy. To move it in or out of the network, you need the Flux Accessor. By default it has no I/O limits, which the Appflux config can change. It also has a fast mode and a normal mode. Fast mode outputs energy every tick and may cause lag if you use it heavily. Normal mode bases its output on the target's stored energy and won't cause lag.[5]

The accessor pulls energy from the network, and it needs an external cable to push energy out. Its recipe uses an Energy Processor, which every energy device needs to route energy in an ME system.[8][11][12]

Tip: If you want an ME device to accept or send energy, craft an Induction Card from a Basic Card and a Flux Accessor.[11][12]

Moving up the tiers

Each bigger component is crafted from the previous tier. The tiers from 4k to 256k use an Energy Processor, while the M tiers use an Engineering Processor. For example, the 4k ME Energy Storage Component needs a 1k component.[11]

Tip: Terminals show your stored energy as green fluid. It isn't real fluid, so buckets won't work. Fill or drain it with an energy container such as a battery or an electric tool. When you need to mark FE in a config slot, right-click the slot with an energy container.[6][13]

How does Applied Flux work?

5 parts

Applied Flux lets your ME network store and hand out plain FE, so you can manage your power system with AE. Everything works through storage cells, one accessor block and a few terminal tricks.[1][10]

FE storage cells

ME FE Storage Cells are the main way to store power with Applied Flux. Like item and fluid cells, their capacity is measured in bytes. By default every byte holds 1,048,576 FE.[3]

The default capacities in the guide table run from 1,073,741,824 FE for the smallest cell to 281,474,976,710,656 FE for the largest. That is why the project page says the biggest cell holds over 200 trillion FE. The cells go from 1k ME FE Storage Cell up to 256M ME FE Storage Cell.[1][3]

Unverified The per-byte FE value and the Flux Accessor I/O limits can be changed in the Appflux config. The sources here do not include the pack's config values, so the numbers on this page are the mod defaults.

Building a cell

A cell starts with an energy storage component, from 1k ME Energy Storage Component up to 256M ME Energy Storage Component. The 1k component is one of the recipes the pack changed, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[3][11]

There are two ways to turn a component into a finished cell. You can craft the cell directly, or you can combine the component with an ME FE Cell Housing. The 1k tier shows both recipes below.[11]

Energy Processor and redstone crystals

The Energy Processor manages energy flow in an ME system. Every energy device needs one to route energy. Several of the component recipes in the pack use it, such as the 4k, 16k and 256k ones.[8][11]

Plain redstone is a good energy medium but too loose to put in a cell. A redstone block combined with fluix crystal and glowstone crystallizes into redstone crystals, which store a lot of energy in very little space.[14]

The pack changed how you get the Charged Redstone Crystal Block. It comes from decompressing the compressed version.[11]

Recipe id: allthecompressed:decompress/charged_redstone_block_1x

The pack changed this recipe: the block comes from decompressing the compressed version.

Getting energy in and out of the network

The Flux Accessor moves energy in and out of the ME network. By default it has no I/O limits. Its tooltip says it pulls energy from the network and needs an external cable to push energy.[5][12]

It has a fast mode and a normal mode. Fast mode outputs energy every tick, which can cause lag if you use it heavily. Normal mode outputs based on the target's stored energy and won't cause lag.[5]

Watch out: The accessor only deals with FE stored in your FE Storage Cells. It does not touch the energy held in AE2 Energy Cells.[5]

The Induction Card allows AE devices to accept or send energy.[12][15]

Terminals and portable cells

Terminals show the stored energy as green fluid. It isn't a real fluid, so buckets can't fill it. Instead, use an energy container such as a battery or an electric tool to fill it or drain it. This lets you charge and discharge items right from the terminal.[1][6]

To output energy from a device, you need to mark FE in its config slot. Right-click the slot with an energy container to mark FE.[13]

Portable FE cells are only a quarter of the size of the normal cells. You can install an extra item in them so they automatically charge the items in your inventory.[4]

How do you progress through Applied Flux?

6 parts

Applied Flux lets you store FE inside your ME network, and progression is a ladder of cell sizes from 1k up to 256M. Before you climb it, you need a handful of materials. Here is the order I'd tackle them in.[3]

Crystals and the Energy Processor

Redstone is a nice energy medium, but it is too loose to put in a cell. Crystallizing a redstone block with fluix and glowstone gives you a Redstone Crystal, which stores a lot of energy in very little space.[14]

Transform (ae2)

  • any fluix gem
  • any redstone storage block

Recipe id: appflux:transform/redstone_crystal

Next you charge it into a Charged Redstone Crystal. The pack changed the charger recipe for this, and it also changed both Advanced AE reaction recipes that make the crystal and the charged crystal. Don't rely on a guide written for the mod defaults.[11]

The Energy Processor is the key part. Every energy device needs one to route energy. You make it from a printed circuit, which comes from the Inscriber Energy Press in an inscriber. The pack changed the charger recipe for the press and the ExtendedAE assembler recipe for the processor.[8][11]

Climb the core ladder

Each cell tier needs its own energy storage component, from 1k ME Energy Storage Component up to 256M ME Energy Storage Component. The pack changed the recipe for the first one. Every core after that is a mod recipe that takes the previous size of core as an input, so you climb in order: 1k, 4k, 16k, 64k, 256k, 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M, 256M.[3][11]

Build the cells

1k ME FE Storage Cell is the first cell, and the ME FE Storage Cell is the main way to store power with this mod. For every tier there are two recipes: a shaped one, and a shapeless one that combines a core with a housing. The shapeless one is handy once you have housings on hand.[3][11]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: appflux:1k_fe_cell_assemble

Capacity is byte-based, like AE2 item and fluid cells. By default every byte holds 1,048,576 FE. The capacity table runs from 1,073,741,824 FE for the smallest cell to 281,474,976,710,656 FE for the largest.[3]

Portable versions exist for every tier, such as 1k Portable FE Cell. They have only a quarter of the capacity of the normal cells. In exchange, you can install an upgrade in them and they will automatically charge the items in your inventory.[4]

Getting energy in and out

The Flux Accessor moves energy in and out of your ME network. By default it has no I/O limits. It has a fast mode and a normal mode. Fast mode outputs every tick and may cause lag if you use it heavily. Normal mode bases its output on what the target has stored, so it won't lag.[5]

The Induction Card is made from a Flux Accessor and a basic card, and it allows the devices it is used on to input and output energy. When you want to output energy, you need to mark FE in the config slot by right-clicking the slot with an energy container.[11][13][15]

Tip: The energy in these cells is FE, not the energy in AE2 Energy Cells. In terminals it shows as green fluid. You can't fill it with buckets, but batteries and electric tools can fill and drain it.[5][6]

The pack's quest

The pack's quest book has "Automated Flux Dust" quest in the Basic Power chapter. It comes after Flux Networks, and its tasks are an XyCraft extractor and a Charged Redstone Crystal Block. It shows how to automate Flux Dust: put the crystal block on bedrock, surround it with obsidian, and put the extractor on top with a storage above that.[9]

The pack makes that block easy to get. Besides the normal recipe from charged crystals, it adds Powah energizing recipes that turn redstone storage blocks into a Charged Redstone Crystal Block.[11]

How does Applied Flux work with other mods?

4 parts

Applied Flux stores energy in the ME network, so most of its links to other mods run through AE2 items. In this pack, a few other mods also plug into its crafting chain, and the pack itself has changed or added several of those recipes.[1][11]

Applied Energistics 2 at the core

The ME Energy Storage Components are built on AE2 parts. The pack changed the first one, 1k ME Energy Storage Component, so it now uses an Logic Processor. From the 1M component upward, the recipes use the Engineering Processor. The steps in between use the Energy Processor and Vibrant Quartz Glass.[11]

The finished ME FE Storage Cells are shaped around Quartz Glass. The portable versions need an ME Chest plus an AE2 energy block: an Energy Cell for the k tiers and a Dense Energy Cell for the M tiers.[11]

The Flux Accessor is built from an Energy Acceptor. The Induction Card is a Basic Card combined with a Flux Accessor.[11]

Ways to make the Energy Processor

Every energy device needs the Energy Processor to route energy, so this is the item to automate. The pack gives you several routes to it, and each one uses a different machine. One is the standard AE2 inscriber recipe.[8][11]

Inscriber (ae2)

This is the mod's own inscriber recipe.

Another route is the ExtendedAE crystal assembler, and the pack changed this recipe.[11]

XyCraft quest

The quest "Automated Flux Dust" quest in the Basic Power chapter connects Applied Flux with XyCraft. It comes after the Flux Networks quest. It asks for an XyCraft extractor and a charged redstone crystal block, and the quest text says this setup automates Flux Dust. The block goes on bedrock with 4 obsidian on all sides and the extractor on top, followed by a storage on top of the extractor.[9]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Applied Flux?

1 part

In this pack, the quests I can confirm for Applied Flux are in the Basic Power chapter, and there is one of them.[9]

Basic Power: Automated Flux Dust

The quest "Automated Flux Dust" quest comes after the Flux Networks quest in the same chapter, so finish that one first. Its tasks ask for the Extractor and the Charged Redstone Crystal Block.[9]

The quest text explains that Flux Dust can be automated using XyCraft. Here is the setup it describes:[9]

  1. Place the charged redstone crystal block on bedrock.[9]
  2. Surround the crystal block with 4 obsidian on all sides.[9]
  3. Place the extractor on top.[9]
  4. Place a storage on top of the extractor, and you're done.[9]

What changed in Applied Flux between versions?

1 part

Applied Flux has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Applied Flux 1.21-2.1.5-neoforge. The pack changelogs I have only record version bumps for this mod, so this is a timeline of which release moved it to which version.[2]
