What is Advanced Peripherals?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Advanced Peripherals adds a set of extra peripherals and turtle upgrades for ComputerCraft-style computers. The pack includes version 0.8.0a. The in-game manual describes the peripherals as a way to interact with other mods, players, the world and the game chat.[1][2][3]
It's for you if you like programming. The blocks all work by connecting them to a computer, and the turtle features rely on CC:Tweaked's turtle fuel rules. If you never touch computers or turtles, you can safely skip this mod.[4][5][6]
What you get
- Information blocks: the Block Reader reads blocks and tile entities in front of it, the Environment Detector reports things like time, moon phase and light level, the Geo Scanner scans blocks and the chunk around it, and the Player Detector recognizes players within a certain range.[4][7][8][9]
- Chat and energy: the Chat Box sends and receives game chat messages, and the Energy Detector measures energy flow and can limit it like a resistor.[5][10]
- Mod bridges: the ME Bridge talks to Applied Energistics 2, the RS Bridge talks to Refined Storage, and the Colony Integrator works with a MineColonies colony.[11][12][13]
- Player inventory access: the Inventory Manager communicates with a player's inventory using a Memory Card that you assign to yourself.[14][15]
- Pocket computer upgrades for the Environment Detector, Player Detector and Chat Box. These don't support the associated events.[16]
Turtle upgrades
The Weak Automata Core turns a turtle into a more capable automaton. It can dig, click on blocks, suck up items, detect items and blocks, and charge the turtle from an RF item. It's also the starting point for two advanced variants: the End Automata Core adds limited world-bound teleportation, and the Husbandry Automata Core lets the turtle interact with animals.[17][18][19]
Combining any automata core with a nether star gives an overpowered version that doesn't use item durability. The catch is that it breaks immediately if you use it without enough fuel. The Chunk Controller is a separate ingredient that makes a turtle chunk-loading.[20][21]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests in this pack that involve the mod, or any place for it on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional mod for players who enjoy automation with computers.
How do you get started with Advanced Peripherals?
5 parts
Advanced Peripherals adds peripherals for talking to other mods, players, the world and the game chat, plus items that upgrade turtles. Most peripherals are blocks that you connect to a computer, so the plan is simple: make the base block first, then pick the peripherals that fit what you want to automate.[2][4][5][22]
Step 1: the Peripheral Casing
Start with the Peripheral Casing. It is an empty hull that the mod describes as a crafting ingredient, and most of the other recipes in this pack use it, including the Chat Box, Block Reader, Inventory Manager and Weak Automata Core.[23][24]

Make a few of these up front, since nearly every peripheral asks for one.
Step 2: easy first peripherals
Once you have casings, these are friendly places to begin. Each one needs a computer connected to it before it does anything.[5][7][9][10]
- Chat Box: lets a computer send and receive game chat messages. A message that starts with a $ is only visible to the Chat Box.[5]
- Environment Detector: reads things like the current time, the moon phase and the light level of the block.[7]
- Player Detector: recognizes players within a certain range, and also the player who clicks on it.[9]
- Energy Detector: detects energy flow and acts as a resistor, and you can set the max flow rate.[10]

Step 3: Inventory Manager and Memory Card
The Inventory Manager talks to a player's inventory. To use it, right click with a Memory Card to assign the card to yourself, then put the card into the manager.[14][15]

Step 4: turtles and the Weak Automata Core
If you want a smarter turtle, craft a Weak Automata Core. It is a turtle upgrade that lets the turtle dig with a tool, click on blocks, suck up items, detect items and blocks, and charge itself from an RF item in its inventory.[17]

It is also the starting point for the stronger cores. Feed a Weak Automata Core 10 endermen to get an End Automata Core, which adds limited teleportation. Feed it 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep to get a Husbandry Automata Core, which adds animal interaction.[17][18][19]
World changing operations use turtle fuel, unless fuel usage is disabled in the CC: Tweaked configuration. Most of them also have cooldowns, so plan for that in your code.[6]
Step 5: storage bridges
If you run a storage network, the ME Bridge works with Applied Energistics 2 and uses one channel. The RS Bridge works with Refined Storage. Both can retrieve and craft items and list everything in the network. The pack changed both recipes, and the blocks below show the in-pack versions.[11][12][23]

How does Advanced Peripherals work?
8 parts
Advanced Peripherals is all about bolting extra abilities onto CC: Tweaked computers and turtles. The peripherals are blocks and items that let your code talk to other mods, players, the world and the game chat. Almost every peripheral block follows the same pattern: place it, connect it to a computer, and call it from your program.[2][4][5][22]
Peripheral blocks
- Block Reader: reads data of blocks and tile entities in front of it, so you can interact with blocks that have no computer support of their own. You connect it to a computer and also aim it at the target block.[4][24]
- Chat Box: sends and receives game chat messages. If a message starts with a dollar sign, only the Chat Box sees it.[5]
- Energy Detector: detects energy flow and acts as a resistor. You set a max flow rate to use it that way. The Fluid Detector does the same for fluids, and the Gas Detector does it for gas.[10][24]
- Environment Detector: reads things like the current time, the moon phase and the light level of the block.[7]
- Geo Scanner: gives you info about the blocks around it and the chunk it sits in. It has a delay between scans, so build that wait into your code.[8]
- Player Detector: recognizes players within a certain range, and also the player who clicks on it.[9]
- NBT Storage: a custom block where you can read and write custom data, mostly provided for ID support. The tooltip says it acts like a storage disk.[24][27]
- Distance Detector: measures the distance to the first obstruction.[24]
- Smart Rail: a rail that a computer can control.[24]
- Colony Integrator: talks to a MineColonies colony. Connect it to a computer inside the area of the village.[13][24]
The Smart Rail, Block Reader and the other casing-based blocks all use Peripheral Casing as a crafting ingredient, which the mod describes as an empty hull used for crafting.[23][24]

Inventory Manager and Memory Card
The Inventory Manager can send or receive specific items from a player inventory. To use it, right click a Memory Card to bind it to yourself, then put the card into the manager. The Memory Card saves a player's rights so the manager is allowed to touch that inventory.[14][15][24]

AE Disk Cells give the ME Bridge external file storage. They come in 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M sizes, and the tooltips describe each step up as more space. The pack changes the 1M, 16M and 256M recipes, and the bigger ones are built from the next size down.[23][24]

The mod also has a Cable P2P Tunnel for connecting a wired network through AE2. Its attunement tag lists the CC cable, wired modem and full wired modem.[24][28]
Turtle automata cores
Automata cores are turtle upgrades. The Weak Automata Core is the starting point and gives a turtle these abilities:[17]
- Dig blocks with a tool.[17]
- Click on a block with an item or an empty hand.[17]
- Suck up items around it, all or specific ones.[17]
- Detect items around it.[17]
- Detect a block or turtle in its line of view.[17]
- Charge the turtle with an RF item in its inventory.[17]
You turn a weak core into an advanced one by feeding it mobs. After consuming 10 endermen it becomes an End Automata Core, which adds limited world-bound teleportation: you store points and teleport to them. Stored points are lost when the turtle is broken. After consuming 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep it becomes a Husbandry Automata Core, which can interact with animals and even transfer them inside. Stored animals are also lost if the turtle is broken.[17][18][19]
Overpowered versions exist for each core. They do not use up item durability, but the upgrade is fragile: if you perform an operation without enough fuel, it breaks immediately.[20][24]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: advancedperipherals:overpowered_end_automata_core
Fuel and cooldowns
World-changing automata operations consume turtle fuel, unless fuel usage is disabled in the CC:Tweaked configuration. Most of them also have cooldowns, and you can read every active cooldown through peripheral methods.[6]
A higher fuel consumption rate shortens the cooldown but costs more fuel. For example, a click operation that costs 1 fuel point with a 5 second cooldown can run once every 2.5 seconds at consumption 2, but at the price of 2 fuel points. The cost climbs faster than the cooldown drops: consumption 3 needs 4 fuel points. Each automata core has a maximum consumption limit, which you can read with the getConfiguration method.[6]
Chunky turtles
The Chunk Controller is a crafting ingredient for the Chunky Turtle. Combine it with a turtle or advanced turtle to make it chunk-loading.[21]

Smart Glasses and pocket computers
Smart Glasses are a portable computer that supports multiple peripherals and modules. The Smart Glasses Interface lets you access equipped glasses without taking them off. Modules include the Overlay Module for drawing on your screen, the Hotkey Module for capturing a predefined key and forwarding it as an event, and the Night Vision Module for a better view of the world. The Netherite reinforced version gives a bit more armor.[24][29]

Pocket computers can also get peripheral upgrades for the Environment Detector, Player Detector and Chat Box. Combine the upgrade with a pocket computer to add the peripheral, but you can't use the associated events.[16]
Pack notes
In this pack, World.givePlayerBookOnJoin is set to false, so new players are not handed the documentation book automatically.[26]
Unverified The in-game guide points to the official Advanced Peripherals wiki for the full documentation of each peripheral, including method lists and detection ranges. The sources here do not show those details, so check that wiki for exact method names and limits.
How do you progress through Advanced Peripherals?
6 parts
Advanced Peripherals has no big tier ladder. Progression here is a set of steps, and almost all of them start from one cheap building block. Work through them in the order below and you will unlock the whole mod.[2][22]
Step 1: the Peripheral Casing
The Peripheral Casing is the base of most of the mod's blocks and modules. Make a stack of these first.[23]

This is the unchanged mod recipe, so it is the same as the mod default.
Step 2: the simple peripherals
These use the casing plus ordinary materials, and the pack leaves their recipes as the mod defines them: Chat Box, Player Detector, Inventory Manager, Environment Detector, Energy Detector, Fluid Detector, Distance Detector and NBT Storage. Each one connects to a computer from CC: Tweaked.[5][7][9][10][23][27]
The Block Reader, Geo Scanner and Smart Rail are a step up, because they also need CC: Tweaked hardware in their recipes.[4][8][23]
The Environment Detector, Player Detector and Chat Box can also be combined with a pocket computer to add that peripheral to it. You cannot use the associated events that way.[16]
Step 3: storage bridges and disk cells
The ME Bridge talks to Applied Energistics 2 and uses one channel. The pack changed its recipe.[11][23]

The mod's AE disk cells form a chain, and the pack changed every recipe in it. You craft AE Disk Cell 1M first, then each size uses the previous cell as an ingredient: AE Disk Cell 4M, AE Disk Cell 16M, AE Disk Cell 64M and finally AE Disk Cell 256M. Never skip a size.[23]

Step 4: other-mod integrations
The Colony Integrator works with a MineColonies colony, so you connect it to a computer in the area of the village. Its recipe is changed by the pack and uses items from MineColonies and Structurize.[13][23]

Step 5: automata cores for turtles
Automata cores are the mod's turtle upgrades, and they have their own ladder. The Weak Automata Core is the entry point. It lets a turtle dig, click on blocks, suck up items, detect items and blocks, and charge itself from an RF item.[17][23]

From there you pick a specialisation by feeding mobs to the core. Consume 10 endermen and it becomes an End Automata Core, which adds limited world-bound teleportation. Stored points are lost if the turtle is broken. Consume 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep and it becomes a Husbandry Automata Core, which can interact with animals and store them inside. Stored animals are lost if the turtle is broken.[18][19]
The last step is an overpowered version of any core. For each one you combine the core with a nether star: Overpowered Weak Automata Core, Overpowered Husbandry Automata Core and Overpowered End Automata Core.[23]
Crafting Shapeless
Recipe id: advancedperipherals:overpowered_weak_automata_core
Step 6: smart glasses
The Smart Glasses build on a CC: Tweaked advanced pocket computer. The pack also changed the smithing upgrade to Netherite reinforced Smart Glasses. Both items belong to the smart glasses tag.[23][29]

If you want the glasses to talk to your inventory, craft a Memory Card and right click it to assign it to yourself. Put the card into an Inventory Manager to link the two.[14][15]
How does Advanced Peripherals work with other mods?
5 parts
Advanced Peripherals is built to talk to other mods, and the pack's recipes show it. Several of its blocks and items are crafted from parts of CC: Tweaked, Applied Energistics 2, Refined Storage, Mekanism, MineColonies and Structurize. Here is how each link works.[2][23]
Applied Energistics 2
The ME Bridge lets a computer interact with Applied Energistics 2. You can retrieve items, craft items, get all items as a list and more. It uses one channel. The pack changed its recipe, and it needs an AE2 Fluix Block and an ME Interface.[11][23]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: advancedperipherals:me_bridge

The mod also adds AE Disk Cells in five sizes: AE Disk Cell 1M, AE Disk Cell 4M, AE Disk Cell 16M, AE Disk Cell 64M and AE Disk Cell 256M. The pack changed all five recipes. The 1M cell starts from an AE2 Logic Processor and a ComputerCraft Floppy Disk. Every bigger size is crafted from the previous cell plus a Calculation Processor and Quartz Glass from AE2.[23]

Refined Storage
If you prefer Refined Storage, the RS Bridge does the same job for that network: retrieve items, craft items, list everything and more. The pack changed its recipe, which uses an Advanced Processor and an Interface from Refined Storage, plus an exporter, an external storage and an importer.[12][23]

CC: Tweaked
Advanced Peripherals builds on CC: Tweaked, and several recipes use its parts. These recipes come from the mod itself, not the pack.[23]
- Block Reader and Geo Scanner both use a Wired Modem.[23]
- Smart Rail uses a Wired Modem together with the three vanilla rail types: powered, detector and activator.[23]
- Overlay Module is made from the Advanced Monitor.[23]
- Smart Glasses are made from the Advanced Pocket Computer.[23]
Most peripherals work the same way: connect them to a computer and you can use them.[4][8]
Which Advanced Peripherals config options matter?
For Advanced Peripherals, the sources here confirm one config option in this pack, and it is a handy one to know about.[26]
- World.givePlayerBookOnJoin is set to false in this pack. The option gives the Advanced Peripherals documentation to new players, so with it off, you won't be handed that documentation when you join a new world.[26]
If you want the documentation handed to new players, for example on a server where you want everyone to start with it, change that option to true in world.toml. The sources here do not show the mod's own default for this option, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[26]
