What is Advanced Peripherals?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Advanced Peripherals adds a set of extra peripherals and turtle upgrades for ComputerCraft-style computers. The pack includes version 0.8.0a. The in-game manual describes the peripherals as a way to interact with other mods, players, the world and the game chat.[1][2][3]
It's for you if you like programming. The blocks all work by connecting them to a computer, and the turtle features rely on CC:Tweaked's turtle fuel rules. If you never touch computers or turtles, you can safely skip this mod.[4][5][6]
What you get
- Information blocks: the Block Reader reads blocks and tile entities in front of it, the Environment Detector reports things like time, moon phase and light level, the Geo Scanner scans blocks and the chunk around it, and the Player Detector recognizes players within a certain range.[4][7][8][9]
- Chat and energy: the Chat Box sends and receives game chat messages, and the Energy Detector measures energy flow and can limit it like a resistor.[5][10]
- Mod bridges: the ME Bridge talks to Applied Energistics 2, the RS Bridge talks to Refined Storage, and the Colony Integrator works with a MineColonies colony.[11][12][13]
- Player inventory access: the Inventory Manager communicates with a player's inventory using a Memory Card that you assign to yourself.[14][15]
- Pocket computer upgrades for the Environment Detector, Player Detector and Chat Box. These don't support the associated events.[16]
Turtle upgrades
The Weak Automata Core turns a turtle into a more capable automaton. It can dig, click on blocks, suck up items, detect items and blocks, and charge the turtle from an RF item. It's also the starting point for two advanced variants: the End Automata Core adds limited world-bound teleportation, and the Husbandry Automata Core lets the turtle interact with animals.[17][18][19]
Combining any automata core with a nether star gives an overpowered version that doesn't use item durability. The catch is that it breaks immediately if you use it without enough fuel. The Chunk Controller is a separate ingredient that makes a turtle chunk-loading.[20][21]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests in this pack that involve the mod, or any place for it on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional mod for players who enjoy automation with computers.
How do you get started with Advanced Peripherals?
5 parts
Advanced Peripherals gives your computers new ways to reach out into the world. Its peripherals let you interact with other mods, players, the world and the game chat, and almost every one works the same way: place it, connect it to a computer, and start coding.[2][3][5][7][9]
Step 1: Make a stack of Peripheral Casings
Your very first craft should be the Peripheral Casing. On its own it's just an empty hull, but it's the crafting ingredient behind nearly every peripheral in this pack, including the detectors, the Chat Box, the Inventory Manager, both storage bridges and the Weak Automata Core. Make a few so you're not running back to the crafting table every time.[22][23]

Step 2: Your first peripherals
These three are cheap and perfect for your first scripts. The Player Detector recognizes players within a certain range, and it also knows who clicked on it. That makes it great for doors or greeting screens.[9]

Step 3: Inventory Manager and Memory Card
The Inventory Manager can send items to your inventory or pull specific items out of it. To link it to you, right click with a Memory Card in hand to assign the card to yourself, then put the card into the manager.[14][15][22]

Step 4: Hook into your storage system
Once you have an Applied Energistics 2 or Refined Storage network, the bridges let your computer retrieve items, craft items, list everything you've stored and more. The ME Bridge uses one channel on your ME network. This pack changed the recipes for both the ME Bridge and the RS Bridge, so check the recipes below rather than an old wiki page.[11][12][23]

Step 5: Upgrade your turtles
When you're ready for turtles, build a Weak Automata Core. This turtle upgrade lets a turtle dig with a tool, click blocks with an item or an empty hand, suck up and detect nearby items, detect blocks or turtles in its line of view, and charge itself from an RF item in its inventory.[17]

Keep an eye on fuel. All world-changing operations consume turtle fuel, and most have cooldowns you'll need to plan around in your code.[6]
The weak core is only the start. Feed it 10 endermen and it becomes an End Automata Core with limited teleportation. Feed it 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep instead and you get a Husbandry Automata Core that can interact with animals. Any teleport points or animals stored in a turtle are lost if the turtle is broken.[18][19]
How does Advanced Peripherals work?
9 parts
Advanced Peripherals is all about giving your computers and turtles new ways to reach into the world. Its peripherals let you interact with other mods, with players, with the world itself and with the game chat, while its items either work alongside those peripherals or act as crafting ingredients that upgrade your turtles.[2][25]
How peripherals work
Nearly every block in this mod does nothing on its own. You place it, connect it to a computer, and then control it from your code. The in-game guide pages all end with the same instruction: connect the block to a computer to make use of it.[4][5][7][8][9][10][11][12][14]
Most of these blocks start from the Peripheral Casing, an empty hull that exists purely as a crafting ingredient. Make a stack of these early, because you'll keep coming back to them.[22][23]

The shared base for most peripherals
Storage and colony bridges
The ME Bridge hooks your computer into Applied Energistics 2. You can retrieve items, craft items, get a list of everything stored and more. Keep your channel budget in mind: the ME Bridge uses one channel on your network.[11]
The RS Bridge does the same job for Refined Storage. It can retrieve items, craft items and list everything in your system.[12]
The Colony Integrator reads data about your MineColonies colony and its citizens. It needs to be connected to a computer inside the area of your colony.[13][22]

Power, players and the world
The Energy Detector does two jobs. It detects energy flowing through it, and it also acts as a resistor: you set a maximum flow rate and it caps the energy passing through. That makes it handy for both monitoring and throttling your power lines.[10][22]
The Inventory Manager can send items to and receive items from a player's inventory. To link it to you, right-click with a Memory Card in hand to assign the card to yourself, then put the card into the manager. The card saves your rights so the manager is allowed to touch your inventory.[14][15][22]
The Player Detector recognizes players within a certain range, and it also recognizes the player who clicks on it.[9]
The Chat Box reads and sends chat messages. If you start a message with a $, only the Chat Box sees it, which is perfect for sending private commands to your computer.[5][22]
The Environment Detector reports things like the current time, the moon phase and the light level of its block. The Geo Scanner gives you information about blocks around it and about the chunk it sits in, which is great for finding ores. The Geo Scanner has a delay between scans, so build that wait into your code.[7][8][22]
For blocks without their own computer support, the Block Reader reads the data of the block or tile entity in front of it. The NBT Storage works like a storage disk and lets you input and output custom data.[4][22][26]
Pocket computer upgrades
The Environment Detector, Player Detector and Chat Box can also be combined with a pocket computer to add that peripheral to it. The catch is that the associated events can't be used from a pocket computer.[16]
Automata cores: turtle upgrades
The Weak Automata Core is a turtle upgrade that turns a regular turtle into a much more capable automaton. Here is what it adds:[17]
- Digging blocks with a tool.[17]
- Clicking on blocks with an item or an empty hand.[17]
- Sucking up items around it, either all of them or specific ones.[17]
- Detecting items around it.[17]
- Detecting a block or turtle in its line of view.[17]
- Charging the turtle with an RF item from its inventory.[17]

The weak core is only the start. It's an empty construct that accepts soul fragments from mobs, and you feed it specific mobs to evolve it.[17]
- After consuming 10 endermen, the weak core becomes an End Automata Core. It keeps the weak core's abilities and adds limited teleportation within one dimension: you store points and then teleport to them. Any stored points are lost when the turtle is broken.[18][22]
- After consuming 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep, the weak core becomes a Husbandry Automata Core. It keeps the weak core's abilities and lets the turtle interact with animals, including storing them inside. Any stored animal is lost when the turtle is broken.[19][22]
Overpowered cores
Each core has an overpowered version made with a shapeless recipe. Overpowered cores don't consume item durability when you use them, but they are very fragile: if you try any operation without enough fuel, the upgrade breaks immediately.[20][22][23]

Cooldowns and fuel
Every world-changing operation an automata core performs consumes turtle fuel, unless fuel usage is disabled in the CC: Tweaked configuration. Most operations also have cooldowns, and you can read every active cooldown through the peripheral's methods, so your code should check them.[6]
You can shorten cooldowns by raising the fuel consumption rate, which burns more fuel per action. The guide's example is a click that costs 1 fuel point with a 5 second cooldown. At consumption rate 2, you can click once every 2.5 seconds, but each click costs 2 fuel points.[6]
The cost grows faster than the cooldown shrinks. For example, consumption rate 3 needs 4 fuel points. Each automata core also has a maximum consumption rate, which you can read with the getConfiguration method.[6]
Chunk loading and other items
The Chunk Controller is a crafting ingredient for the Chunky Turtle. Combine it with a turtle or an advanced turtle to make that turtle load chunks.[21][22]

The Computer Tool is meant to open GUIs and tune the mod's blocks, but the mod itself says it currently has no function. You don't need to craft it.[22][24]
Pack settings
This pack sets World.givePlayerBookOnJoin to false, so new players don't receive the Advanced Peripherals documentation book when they join.[27]
The mod can also disable items through its config. A disabled item can still be crafted, but it won't do anything, and its tooltip says so.[22]
Unverified The sources don't show whether this pack disables any Advanced Peripherals features. They also don't give exact ranges, scan radii, cooldown lengths or fuel limits for these peripherals and cores in this pack. Check tooltips and the getConfiguration method in-game.
How do you progress through Advanced Peripherals?
4 parts
Advanced Peripherals doesn't have a long tier ladder. Almost everything grows out of one shared base block, the Peripheral Casing. Nearly every peripheral in this pack uses one in its recipe, so it's your first real craft.[23]

Make a few of these; most peripherals need one.
Early peripherals
With a casing in hand you can build the basic peripherals. None of them depend on each other, so pick whatever your next computer project needs. Each one works by connecting it to a computer.[4][5][7][8][9][10][23][26]
- Chat Box lets you send and receive messages in the game chat.[5]
- Player Detector recognizes players within a certain range, plus whoever clicks it.[9]
- Environment Detector reads things like the current time, the moon phase and the block's light level.[7]
- Energy Detector detects energy flow and can act as a resistor with a max flow rate you set.[10]
- Block Reader reads data from the block or tile entity in front of it.[4]
- Geo Scanner reports on blocks around it and on its chunk, with a delay between scans.[8]
- NBT Storage lets a computer store and read custom data in the block.[26]
- Inventory Manager talks to a player's inventory. To use it, right-click a Memory Card to assign it to yourself, then put the card into the manager.[14][15]

Items that skip the casing
A few items don't need a Peripheral Casing at all. The Chunk Controller is the ingredient for a Chunky Turtle: combine it with a turtle or advanced turtle to make that turtle load chunks. The Computer Tool is also cheap, but the mod itself describes it as currently useless, so you don't need to make one.[21][23][24]

Storage and colony bridges
The bridges connect your computers to other mods. They're where the pack moves away from the defaults: the pack changed the recipes for the ME Bridge, the RS Bridge and the Colony Integrator. All three still use a Peripheral Casing, but they now also need parts from the mod they connect to. That puts them later in your progression, after you've set up that mod.[23]
- The ME Bridge works with Applied Energistics 2. It can retrieve items, craft items and list everything in your network, and it uses one channel.[11]
- The RS Bridge does the same job for Refined Storage: retrieving items, crafting and listing everything.[12]
- The Colony Integrator interacts with a MineColonies colony. Connect it to a computer inside the colony's area.[13]

Automata core tiers
Automata cores are the one real tier system in the mod. They're turtle upgrades, and you improve them by feeding them mob souls instead of crafting new ones.[17]
- Craft a Weak Automata Core. It lets a turtle dig with a tool, click blocks, suck up items, detect items and blocks, and charge itself from an RF item in its inventory.[17][23]
- Feed it 10 endermen to turn it into an End Automata Core. This adds limited teleportation to points you've stored, but those points are lost if the turtle is broken.[18]
- Or feed it 3 chickens, 3 cows and 3 sheep to get a Husbandry Automata Core. This one can interact with animals and even carry them, but stored animals are lost if the turtle is broken.[19]
- At the top, craft an overpowered version of any of these cores: Overpowered Weak Automata Core, Overpowered End Automata Core or Overpowered Husbandry Automata Core. Overpowered cores don't use up item durability.[20][23]

Fuel matters at every core tier. World-changing operations use turtle fuel and most have cooldowns. You can raise the fuel consumption rate to shorten a cooldown, but each step costs more fuel than it saves in time, and every core has a maximum rate that you can read with getConfiguration.[6]
How does Advanced Peripherals work with other mods?
4 parts
Advanced Peripherals is all about letting your computers talk to the rest of your world, including other mods. Several of its peripherals only make sense alongside another mod, and in this pack their recipes pull in items from those mods too. You connect each of these peripherals to a computer to use it.[2][11][12][13][23]
Applied Energistics 2: the ME Bridge
The ME Bridge hooks your computer into an Applied Energistics 2 network. From your code you can retrieve items, craft items, get a list of everything stored, and more.[11]
This pack has changed the ME Bridge recipe. It now takes AE2 parts like the Fluix Block and ME Interface, added to the Peripheral Casing.[23]

Refined Storage: the RS Bridge
If you run Refined Storage instead, the RS Bridge does the same job. It can retrieve items, craft items, list everything in the system, and more.[12]
This recipe is also changed by the pack. It uses Refined Storage components such as the Advanced Processor and Interface, plus importer, exporter and external storage parts.[23]

MineColonies: the Colony Integrator
The Colony Integrator lets a computer interact with a MineColonies colony. Place the computer it's connected to inside the area of your colony for it to work.[13]
The pack changed this recipe so it fits the colony theme. It needs a MineColonies Rack and Builder's Goggles, plus a Structurize Build Tool, so you'll want your colony up and running before you craft one.[23]

Which Advanced Peripherals config options matter?
Advanced Peripherals only has one config option in your sources for this pack, and it affects you from the moment you join a world: World.givePlayerBookOnJoin. This option controls whether new players get the Advanced Peripherals documentation book when they join.[27]
This pack sets it to false, so you won't get that book in your inventory when you first log in. If you're hoping to read the in-game documentation, don't wait for it to show up on its own.[27]
Unverified The mod's default value for this option isn't confirmed here, so it's unknown whether the pack changed it. It's also unverified whether the documentation book can be crafted or obtained another way in this pack.
What changed in Advanced Peripherals between versions?
1 part
Advanced Peripherals has been part of All the Mods 10 since pack version 2.37, when it was added at version 0.7.49a. In All the Mods 10 8.0 you're running Advanced Peripherals 0.7.62b.[28][29]
Updates across pack releases
The pack has kept the mod updated through a steady series of small version bumps. Here's each one, in the order it happened:[28]
- All the Mods 10 2.37 added the mod at version 0.7.49a.[28]
- All the Mods 10 4.0 updated it from 0.7.49a to 0.7.50b.[30]
- All the Mods 10 4.1 updated it from 0.7.50b to 0.7.51b.[31]
- All the Mods 10 4.3 updated it from 0.7.51b to 0.7.53b.[32]
- All the Mods 10 4.5 updated it from 0.7.53b to 0.7.55b.[33]
- All the Mods 10 4.6 updated it from 0.7.55b to 0.7.56b.[34]
- All the Mods 10 4.12 updated it from 0.7.56b to 0.7.57b.[35]
- All the Mods 10 5.5 updated it from 0.7.57b to 0.7.59b.[36]
- All the Mods 10 6.1 updated it from 0.7.59b to 0.7.60b.[37]
- All the Mods 10 6.3 updated it from 0.7.60b to 0.7.61b.[38]
- All the Mods 10 7.1 updated it from 0.7.61b to 0.7.62b.[39]
Version 0.7.62b arrived in pack version 7.1, and it's the same version All the Mods 10 8.0 ships. If you're coming to 8.0 from 7.1 or later, Advanced Peripherals itself hasn't changed version.[29][39]
Unverified The pack changelogs only record version numbers, not what changed in each Advanced Peripherals release. Changelogs for the shipped jars weren't available, so specific fixes, new peripherals or behaviour changes between versions can't be confirmed here.
