What is MineColonies?

3 parts

MineColonies is the mod in this pack that lets you start and run your own colony. In this pack you get version 1.1.1374-1.21.1-snapshot of MineColonies, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[1]

Getting started fast

The pack's quest book points you to the quickest way to begin. The Supply Camp and the Supply Ship are made to give you a base to live in and a place to start a colony right away. The quest "Cheating" quest ("Cheating") sits in the Building Tips chapter and unlocks after the Paxel quest.[2]

  1. Right-click the Supply Camp or Supply Ship to open a menu, then choose which type of camp or ship you want.[2]
  2. Find a flat piece of land to place it on. Red outlined blocks show you what needs to be cleared.[2]
  3. Once it is placed, the camp or ship is built entirely for free, with a Townhall, beds, supplies and more.[2]
Tip: Flat ground matters here. If the red outlined blocks show something in the way, clear it before you place the camp or ship.[2]

Early tools

The mod also shows up in the Basic Tools chapter. One quest there, a quest in "Basic Tools", asks you to obtain the Chief Sword, and its description lists 4 Attack Damage.[3]

Where it fits

The sources only show MineColonies in early quest chapters, Basic Tools and Building Tips. So it is something you can start using early on, without waiting for late-game gear.[2][3]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe MineColonies' other mechanics in this pack, such as citizens, buildings or colony progression, and they show no ATM Star path for it. Treat anything beyond the quests above as unconfirmed for now.

How do you get started with MineColonies?

5 parts

Welcome to MineColonies in this pack! This order gets a colony standing quickly: a ready-made base first, then a builder, homes for your citizens, and the basic resource huts.[2][4]

Grab a Supply Camp or Supply Ship

The quest "Cheating" quest in the Building Tips chapter comes after Paxel and asks for either the Supply Camp or the Supply Ship. They are made to give you a base to live in and start a colony from.[2]

Right click one to open a menu and choose the type of camp or ship you want. Then find a flat spot to place it. Red outlined blocks show what needs to go. Once it is set, it is built entirely for free, with a town hall, beds, supplies and more.[2]

Both items have recipes added by the pack, so you can craft them yourself:[5]

Make a Builder's Hut

Nothing gets built without a builder. The Builder's Hut uses the mod's normal recipe in this pack.[5]

Food and safety

For food, build a Farm. You also need to place a Field (the scarecrow) to mark where your Farmer will farm. The Farm has two recipes, one with a wooden hoe and one with a stone hoe, and the Field has its own recipe too.[4][5]

How does MineColonies work?

6 parts

MineColonies is built around citizens, huts and requests. This section covers how those systems fit together, as far as the mod's own in-game descriptions explain them.[4]

Starting a colony

The mod's advancement text walks you through the start. You craft a Supply Camp or Ship and place it by right-clicking it on the ground. After that you place the Town Hall with the Build Tool, which lets you choose the style and position. Then you craft a Builder's Hut and place it the same way, hire a Builder (this happens automatically by default) and tell them to build their own hut.[4]

From then on the Builder runs construction. They make requests for tools and resources, and you can fulfill them with the buttons in their request screen. Keep your Builder fed too. Upgrading the Builder's Hut is what lets you upgrade other huts.[4]

How huts are crafted

The hut recipes in the recipe dump all take the Build Tool as an ingredient, plus a different item to set each hut type apart. A few of them have been changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from other modpacks. The Barracks, Blacksmith's Hut, Crusher and Compost Barrel recipes below are the pack's versions.[5]

The Compost Barrel is also an ingredient in the Composter's Hut recipe.

Citizens, housing and food

  • Housing: the mod's descriptions say a Residence houses one citizen per level, and that a Tavern gives some initial housing and lets you recruit citizens.[4][5]
  • Children: they can only be born when there is open space in one of the buildings. They need to be fed and to sleep well to grow up.[4]
  • Eating: the mod's text says citizens need to eat to be able to work, so put food in their inventories. The Dining Hall is described as having a Waiter who cooks meats and gives food to you and your citizens.[4][5]
  • Don't feed them rotten flesh. The mod's text describes an advancement that shames you for it.[4]

The pack has also changed the Apple Pie and Baked Salmon food recipes. The dump marks both as changed by the pack, so check the recipes here.[5]

Requests, couriers and storage

This is the closest thing the mod has to automation. Workers raise requests when they need something. A hired Courier from the Courier's Hut fulfills those worker requests automatically. A Warehouse stores your materials in one central place, and you can place a postbox and a stash for easy access to it.[4]

Crafting workers plug into the same system. With a Courier in place you can use crafters, and the Sawmill advancement tells you to build it to start your crafting experience. Crafters only craft when another worker makes a request, and each hut has an info tab that explains more. You can teach recipes to crafters. A Builder can learn 2x2 recipes such as a torch and will craft them when needed. A Stonemason handles 3x3 recipes that use stone as the main ingredient. The Blacksmith's Hut allows automated crafting of tools.[4]

Processing and production huts

  • Farm: the mod's description says to place the Field (the scarecrow) to mark where your Farmer works.[4]
  • Herders: the mod's descriptions say to bring animals to the Chicken Farmer, Cowhand, Shepherd and Swineherd huts.[4]
  • Crusher: described as a way to get things like gravel from cobblestone.[4]
  • Sifter: described as a way to take advantage of extra resources hiding in blocks.[4]
  • Smeltery: described as having ore smelted for you. Per its advancements, a level 3 Smeltery applies fortune 2 when processing ore blocks, and a level 5 one applies fortune 4.[4]
  • Composter: described as taking leftover saplings, leaves and similar items and exposing them to the elements to make fertilizer. The Flower Shop is described as using compost or other types of bonemeal to grow flowers.[4]
  • Enchanter's Tower: described as consuming ancient tomes and other workers' experience to produce enchanted books.[4]
  • Mine and Forester: the mod's descriptions say the Miner gets you ores and cobble, and the Forester collects wood for more huts.[4]

Defense

The mod's descriptions say to build a Guard Tower and hire a Guard to protect the colony. For bigger armies, the Barracks is described as letting you hire many more Guards in a much smaller space. Its Barracks Towers are locked to the Barracks' level, and each level raises their max Guards. For training, an Archery trains Archers, and a Combat Academy lets a citizen train without risking their life.[4]

There is also an Undertaker. They bury fallen citizens and can resurrect them, and they can be given a Totem of Undying to help with that.[4]

Unverified The sources here don't include any MineColonies config files or in-game guidebook text. Exact values such as hut level limits, worker speeds, food requirements and citizen caps are unconfirmed for this pack.

How do you progress through MineColonies?

2 parts

The pack's quest book only touches MineColonies in a few places, so there is no step-by-step colony chapter to follow. What the sources do show is a quest for a ready-made starter base, one weapon quest, and a set of pack-changed recipes for some of the more advanced huts.[2][3][5]

What the quests cover

The "Building Tips" chapter has a quest called Cheating "Cheating" quest. It unlocks after the Paxel quest and asks for either a Supply Ship or a Supply Camp. The quest text says these instantly give you a base to live in and start a colony. You right-click one to open a menu, pick the type of camp or ship you want, then find flat land to place it on. Red outlined blocks show what needs to go. Once it is set, the camp or ship is built entirely for free, with town halls, beds, supplies and more.[2]

The "Basic Tools" chapter has a MineColonies quest a quest in "Basic Tools". It unlocks after "Basic Tools!" and asks you to obtain the Chief Sword. The only description on the quest is "4 Attack Damage".[3]

Tip: The pack adds its own recipes for the Supply Camp and the Supply Ship, so you can craft either one yourself and use it to start your colony. Both recipes are shown below.[2][5]

Hut recipes and where the pack changes them

Nearly every hut recipe is built around the Build Tool (Build Tool). The core buildings, like the Town Hall, the Builder's Hut and the Residence, use the mod's own recipes.[5]

The Farm, Forester's Hut and Mine each have a wooden-tool recipe and a stone-tool recipe. The Courier's Hut likewise has a leather-boots recipe and an iron-boots recipe.[5]

The pack has changed the recipes for these buildings and items, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults:[5]

How does MineColonies work with other mods?

4 parts

In this pack, MineColonies connects to other mods mostly through crafting. The Build Tool from Structurize shows up in every MineColonies recipe in the pack, and one recipe also pulls in Advanced Peripherals.[5]

Structurize and the Build Tool

Every MineColonies recipe in the pack's recipe dump includes the Build Tool. That covers hut blocks like the Town Hall and Builder's Hut, as well as tools and utility items like the Clipboard, Colony Map and Golden Builder's Assistant Hammer. Get the Build Tool first, because you will need it for all of them.[5]

Advanced Peripherals

The Colony Integrator is where Advanced Peripherals meets your colony. The pack changes its recipe, and it mixes items from Advanced Peripherals, MineColonies and Structurize.[5]

Recipes the pack changed

Several MineColonies recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. Some of them take items from shared common tags, such as iron ingots, so matching items from other mods can work as ingredients. These are the changed recipes:[5]

Quests

The quest book points you to MineColonies items in the Building Tips and Basic Tools chapters. The "Cheating" quest quest, in Building Tips, asks for either a Supply Ship or a Supply Camp. A quest in Basic Tools, a quest in "Basic Tools", asks for a Chief Sword.[2][3]

Tip: The Supply Ship and Supply Camp are a shortcut to a starter base. Right-click one to pick the type, then place it on flat land. Red outlined blocks show what needs to go. Once it's set, it's built for free, with a Town Hall, beds and supplies.[2]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use MineColonies?

2 parts

MineColonies appears in the quest chapters "Basic Tools" and "Building Tips" in this pack. Here is what each chapter asks for.[2][3]

Basic Tools

The MineColonies quest here is a quest in "Basic Tools". It has no title in the pack's quest file and is listed as "4 Attack Damage". It asks you to hand in a Chief Sword. It comes after the quest "Basic Tools!", so finish that one first.[3]

Building Tips

This chapter has the quest "Cheating" quest, called "Cheating". It comes after the quest "Paxel". The task accepts either a Supply Ship or a Supply Camp, so either item completes it.[2]

The quest text explains the name. Supply Camps and Supply Ships are MineColonies items made to give you a base to live in and start a colony right away. Right click the item to open a menu, then choose the type of camp or ship you want. After that, find a place to put it.[2]

The land must be flat, and red outlined blocks tell you what needs to go. Once it is set, your new camp or ship is built entirely for free, and the quest says it comes with Townhalls, beds, supplies and plenty more.[2]

Tip: Scout for flat ground before you place a Supply Camp or Supply Ship. The red outlines show which blocks are in the way.[2]

What changed in MineColonies between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 8.1 ships MineColonies 1.1.1374-1.21.1-snapshot. That is the same build 8.0 moved to, so 8.1 itself didn't change the mod version. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, and the pack has kept it on snapshot builds for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][6]

Selected version bumps

The pack changelogs record almost every release moving MineColonies forward. Here are some of the milestones, newest first.[6]

  • All the Mods 10 8.0: updated from 1.1.1367 to 1.1.1374.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 7.0: updated from 1.1.1299 to 1.1.1307.[7]
  • All the Mods 10 6.0: updated from 1.1.1254 to 1.1.1281.[8]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 1.1.1218 to 1.1.1254.[9]
  • All the Mods 10 4.6: updated from 1.1.1056 to 1.1.1099.[10]
  • All the Mods 10 4.0: updated from 1.1.981 to 1.1.1002.[11]
  • All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.1.950 to 1.1.972.[12]
  • All the Mods 10 2.26: updated from 1.1.847 to 1.1.857, the earliest bump in the changelogs I have.[13]

Unverified The sources only record which build the pack moved to in each release. They don't include MineColonies' own changelogs for the shipped jars, so what each update added, fixed or changed in gameplay is unverified here.
