MEGA Cells is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 4.11.0. ME Greater Accumulation: For when kilobytes just won't do. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is MEGA Cells?

3 parts

MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M all the way up to 256M. It also brings specialised storage cells and some extra tooling. This pack ships MEGA Cells 4.11.0.[1][2]

What you get

Getting started

MEGA gear runs on new materials. You make Sky Steel alloy ingots, then use them to build the Accumulation Processor. That processor is the backbone of almost every MEGA device, so it's your first real milestone.[2]

Where it sits in the quest book

In the Applied Energistics 2 chapter, the storage components form a straight chain. It starts with "1M Storage Component" quest, which comes after the 256k Storage Component quest. From there it continues through "4M Storage Component" quest, "16M Storage Component" quest and "64M Storage Component" quest, and ends at "256M Storage Component" quest, described as the fifth and final MEGA tier. "Bulk Item Storage" quest sits in the same chapter and comes after the Item Storage quest.[3]

The ATM Star path uses MEGA Cells too. The quest "256M Portable Item Cell" quest in The ATM Star chapter asks for the 256M Portable Item Cell and comes after the Applied Energistics quest. Its text warns that the 256M MEGA Storage Component is much harder to make than the other parts.[8]

How do you get started with MEGA Cells?

5 parts

MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds storage tiers from 1M all the way up to 256M, plus some specialised cells and extra tools. Everything in it builds on one new material and one new processor, so that's where you start.[2]

Step 1: Sky Steel and the Accumulation Processor

First you gather materials to turn into Sky Steel alloy ingots. They're made together with iron and one more ingredient, and water isn't hot enough for the job, so you'll need a much hotter fluid to melt everything down. Once you have Sky Steel, you use it to assemble the Accumulation Processor. It's the backbone of almost every MEGA device, so you'll be making plenty of them.[2][9]

Step 2: Housing and your first component

M-tier storage needs a more capable housing, and that's where more Sky Steel comes in. Craft the MEGA Item Cell Housing for your item cells.[9][10]

Next comes the 1M MEGA Storage Component, the first MEGA tier. It holds 1,048,576 bytes (1024 kilobytes) and is the first step of the quest "1M Storage Component" quest in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter, which follows the 256k Storage Component quest.[3][9]

Step 3: Climb the component tiers

The pack's quests chain the MEGA component tiers one after another, ending with the 256M one. These are the byte capacities the quests list:[3]

Housings for fluids and chemicals

Fluids and other storage types get their own dedicated housings. Sky Stone alloys with other metals for this, and the fluid housing is built around Sky Bronze. The chemical housing recipe is changed by the pack compared with the mod's default, so use the recipe shown here.[9][10]

Bulk cell and portable cells

The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell stores only one item type, but a practically infinite amount of it. It must be filtered with a Cell Workbench before it accepts anything. It doesn't use the regular housings, because it comes with its own Netherite housing and dedicated component, and the pack changes its recipe. Its quest is "Bulk Item Storage" quest.[3][4][9]

If you want your storage on the go, MEGA has portable versions of its cells. The pack's quest "256M Portable Item Cell" quest points you at the 256M Portable Item Cell.[8][9][10]

Tip: MEGA portable cells are power hungry, so they are crafted with a Dense Energy Cell rather than a regular one. For their battery upgrade, only the Greater Energy Card works. The regular Energy Card isn't strong enough.[6][9][10]

How does MEGA Cells work?

7 parts

MEGA Cells is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on. It adds bigger storage tiers, from 1M up to 256M, plus a few specialised cells and some extra tools. Almost everything in it is built around one part: the Accumulation Processor. You assemble it from Sky Steel, so that is your first goal.[2][9]

Storage cells and components

MEGA's storage tiers start at 1M, which equals 1024k, and go up to 256M. That is over one thousand times the capacity of a 256k cell. These bigger components also need a more capable housing.[10]

In this pack the components form a chain. The 1M MEGA Storage Component is made using a 256k ME Storage Component. Then the 4M MEGA Storage Component, 16M MEGA Storage Component, 64M MEGA Storage Component and 256M MEGA Storage Component each build on the tier below.[9]

The first MEGA tier builds on the 256k ME Storage Component.

Each higher tier takes the component below it.

Housings are split by what the cell stores. There are dedicated ones for items, fluids and chemicals: MEGA Item Cell Housing, MEGA Fluid Cell Housing and MEGA Chemical Cell Housing. Each one uses a different Sky Stone alloy: Sky Steel for items, Sky Bronze for fluids and Sky Osmium for chemicals.[9][10]

Portable cells and power

MEGA also makes portable versions of its cells, like AE2 does. They use far more energy, and in this pack their recipes call for a Dense Energy Cell. They still support the full range of upgrades that regular ME portable cells do.[9][10]

The regular Energy Card isn't strong enough for them. Only the Greater Energy Card raises the battery capacity of MEGA portable cells. AE2's own wireless devices accept the Greater card too.[6][10]

For bigger energy buffers there is the Superdense Energy Cell, which holds up to 12.8 million AE per cell. It is meant for big Spatial IO setups and other jobs that need a large buffer in a compact block space.[6]

The Bulk Item Cell

A standard cell holds up to 63 different item types. The Bulk Item Cell stores a single type, but in practical terms an infinite amount of it. It has its own Netherite housing and is crafted from scratch with its own component. It can't be built from existing housings, and it can't be taken apart again.[4]

A new Bulk Cell does nothing until you partition it to pick its item. After that it takes in that item and prioritises itself as the place to send it. A network only handles and displays up to about 9.2 quintillion of an item, but the cell itself can go beyond that.[4]

Watch out: If the filter on a filled Bulk Cell is cleared or changed, the cell errors out and won't accept new items. You can still extract what's inside. It works normally again once the original filter is restored or the cell is emptied and given a new filter.[4]

Bulk Compression

The Compression Card is an upgrade card exclusive to the Bulk Cell. It lets the cell treat variants of a resource as one chain, such as nuggets, ingots and blocks. It follows the crafting recipes to compress inserted items. For example, if 1 ingot crafts into 9 nuggets and back again, every 9 nuggets you insert become another ingot.[4]

This also covers heavily compressed block variants from other mods. Internally the cell counts its contents in the smallest unit of the chain, such as a nugget. You can extract any variant by automation or by Shift-clicking in a terminal.[4]

Auto-crafting

MEGA gives crafting CPUs larger tiers of storage. They need their own dedicated version of the crafting unit and come in black. The MEGA co-processor gives 4 co-processing threads per block. There is also a MEGA monitor, which works the same as the regular one and only keeps the look consistent.[5][11]

The MEGA Pattern Provider doubles the pattern capacity to 18 patterns. The trade-off is that it supports processing patterns only.[5][11]

Extras

  • The MEGA Interface is a double-capacity Interface, with twice the slots, I/O and throughput, and twice the stock-keeping.[7]
  • The Portable Cell Workbench is a hand-sized workbench that can still configure any storage cell as normal.[7]
  • The ME Cell Dock holds one storage cell. It is a flat cable part, so one cable can carry several Docks in a single block space. It has no built-in terminal like the ME Chest. It suits compact subnetworks that need temporary buffer storage.[7]

Radioactive Chemical Cell

This cell only matters if you use Mekanism and Applied Mekanistics. Regular chemical cells refuse radioactive chemicals such as Nuclear Waste, Polonium and Plutonium. The MEGA Radioactive Chemical Cell stores only those. Like the Bulk Cell, it holds one chemical type and needs partitioning first.[12]

Unlike the Bulk Cell, its capacity is finite: a maximum of 256 bytes, which the in-game guide equates to 2048 buckets. It also draws 250 AE/tick while it sits in a connected ME Chest or Drive. By default it refuses Spent Nuclear Waste.[12]

Unverified The in-game guide says the Spent Nuclear Waste restriction is configurable but doesn't say how. The sources here show no config files for this mod in the pack, so how to change it in this pack is unconfirmed.

How do you progress through MEGA Cells?

4 parts

The MEGA Cells path in this pack is a straight line. Once you've topped out the standard AE2 tiers at 256k, the quests walk you through the MEGA storage component tiers, each four times bigger than the one before.[3]

Storage component tiers

  1. "1M Storage Component" quest: the 1M MEGA Storage Component is the first MEGA tier and gives 1,048,576 bytes (1024 kilobytes). The quest unlocks after the 256k Storage Component.[3]
  2. "4M Storage Component" quest: the 4M MEGA Storage Component is the second tier, with 4,194,304 bytes.[3]
  3. "16M Storage Component" quest: the 16M MEGA Storage Component is the third tier, with 16,777,216 bytes.[3]
  4. "64M Storage Component" quest: the 64M MEGA Storage Component is the fourth tier, with 67,108,864 bytes.[3]
  5. "256M Storage Component" quest: the 256M MEGA Storage Component is the fifth and final tier, with 268,435,456 bytes.[3]

Each tier's recipe builds on the previous tier's component and uses the Accumulation Processor, so you can't skip ahead. These recipes are unchanged mod recipes.[9]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: megacells:cells/standard/chemical_storage_cell_1m_with_housing

The chemical version works the same way, but this recipe is changed by the pack.

Watch out: The pack changes the chemical side of MEGA Cells compared with the mod defaults: the chemical housing, the chemical storage cells (both the housing and the from-scratch recipes), and the portable chemical and portable source cells. The fluid and item housings and the portable fluid and item cells are unchanged mod recipes. The recipe blocks on this page show the in-pack versions, so go by those and not by other guides.[9]

Portable cells

Portable cells come in item, fluid, chemical and source versions, from 1M up to 256M. Each is a shapeless recipe that combines a MEGA component of that tier with the matching housing. The pack gives you a quest for the top item version: "256M Portable Item Cell" quest in The ATM Star chapter, which unlocks after Applied Energistics.[8][9]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: megacells:cells/portable/portable_item_cell_256m

Tip: The quest warns that the 256M Storage Component is the hard part of the 256M Portable Item Cell. Also, MEGA portable cells only support the Greater Energy Card for extra battery capacity, so AE2's regular Energy Card won't do it.[6][8]

Bulk Item Storage

"Bulk Item Storage" quest unlocks after Item Storage. The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell holds only one item type, but it can store a practically infinite amount of it. You have to filter it with a Cell Workbench before it accepts anything.[3][4]

The pack changes this recipe from the mod default. The cell doesn't use the standard housings. It is crafted from scratch with its own Netherite housing and the dedicated MEGA Bulk Storage Component, so you can't take it apart again afterwards.[4][9]

How does MEGA Cells work with other mods?

5 parts

MEGA Cells is an add-on that extends AE2 storage, and this pack wires it into a lot of other mods. The links below come from in-pack recipes and quests that use items from both sides. Several of these recipes were changed or added by the pack.[3][9]

Sky alloys through ExtendedAE and AdvancedAE

Sky Bronze Ingot, Sky Osmium Ingot and Sky Steel Ingot can each be made through several machine routes. There are AdvancedAE reaction recipes and ExtendedAE crystal assembler recipes, and the pack changed both sets. The pack also adds its own crystal assembler recipes for the bronze and osmium ingots, and the osmium one uses Osmium Ingot from AllTheOres.[9]

A crystal assembler recipe added by the pack.

AllTheCompressed also has 1x versions of the three Sky blocks, such as Sky Steel Block 1x, with a compress and a decompress recipe for each. The pack changed all of these recipes.[9]

Accumulation Processor and the Expanded Crafting Unit

The pack ties Accumulation Processor to ExtendedAE's crystal assembler, and it changed that recipe. The Printed Accumulation Circuit it needs comes from an AE2 inscriber recipe added by the pack, and that recipe uses a Sky Steel Ingot.[9]

The processor then carries into ExpandedAE. The pack changed the recipe for the Expanded Crafting Unit so it is built from the MEGA Crafting Unit and the Accumulation Processor.[9]

Mekanism and the Radioactive component

The MEGA Radioactive Storage Component is a pack-added recipe that pulls in Mekanism materials. It builds on the 64M MEGA Storage Component and the Accumulation Processor.[9]

Energy and the ATM Star

The pack adds a Powah energizing recipe for the Creative Energy Cell, shown below. It is where the Superdense Energy Cell from MEGA Cells meets the ATM Star from AllTheTweaks.[9]

Creative Energy CellAdded by the pack

Energizing (powah)

Recipe id: allthemods:energizing/ae2_creative_energy_cell

The 256M Portable Item Cell also feeds the pack's Improbable Probability Device recipe. It sits there alongside items from AE2, Iron Furnaces, Mega Showdown, Mekanism and PneumaticCraft. The quest for the portable cell is in the ATM Star chapter, as "256M Portable Item Cell" quest.[8][9]

Pack-made cells from the 256M component

The pack adds a family of KubeJS cells, such as Dirt Cell, Lava Cell and End Stone Cell. They all use the 256M MEGA Storage Component as their base, and the recipe below shows one of them. The top MEGA component has its own quest, "256M Storage Component" quest.[3][9]

One example added by the pack. The other cells follow the same pattern with different blocks.

If you are working toward any of this, the Applied Energistics 2 quest chapter walks you through the MEGA storage tiers in order: "1M Storage Component" quest, "4M Storage Component" quest, "16M Storage Component" quest, "64M Storage Component" quest and finally "256M Storage Component" quest. The same chapter has a quest for the MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell too, "Bulk Item Storage" quest.[3]

Which All the Mons quests use MEGA Cells?

2 parts

MEGA Cells quests sit in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter, which holds almost all of them, and in The ATM Star chapter, which has a final one at the end of the storage line. Here's the order to expect.[3][8]

Applied Energistics 2 chapter

The first MEGA quest is "Bulk Item Storage" quest, which unlocks after the Item Storage quest. Its task item is MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell. The quest text says each cell can hold only one item type, but can store a practically infinite amount of it (technically "max long"). The cell has to be filtered in advance with a Cell Workbench before it accepts an item type.[3]

After that comes the storage component line. Each quest unlocks after the previous one, and each asks for the matching component as its task item:[3]

  1. "1M Storage Component" quest asks for 1M MEGA Storage Component. It unlocks after the 256k Storage Component quest, among others. The quest text says this component gives 1,048,576 bytes of storage, and that it is the first of the MEGA tiers.[3]
  2. "4M Storage Component" quest asks for 4M MEGA Storage Component, the second MEGA tier, at 4,194,304 bytes.[3]
  3. "16M Storage Component" quest asks for 16M MEGA Storage Component, the third tier, at 16,777,216 bytes.[3]
  4. "64M Storage Component" quest asks for 64M MEGA Storage Component, the fourth tier, at 67,108,864 bytes.[3]
  5. "256M Storage Component" quest asks for 256M MEGA Storage Component, the fifth and final tier, at 268,435,456 bytes.[3]

The quest subtitles (x4, x4^2, x4^3, x4^4) show the step up from the 1M tier for each component.[3]

The ATM Star chapter

The last MEGA quest is "256M Portable Item Cell" quest, which unlocks after the Applied Energistics quest. Its task item is 256M Portable Item Cell. The quest text pitches it as a way to carry 256 million items with you on an adventure. It also warns that the 256M MEGA Storage Component is the much harder part to make, so finishing the component line above first is a good plan.[8]

Tip: Do the quests in this order: Bulk Item Storage, then the storage components from 1M up to 256M, then the 256M Portable Item Cell. Each component quest requires the one before it.[3][8]
