Trash Cans is a mod in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, where it is version 1.1.0+a. Trash Cans adds trash cans which can be used to void items, liquids, and energy! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • Game crashes when an accelerated Extended Export Bus feeds a Trash Can
Read from the jars and not run in game: in All the Mods 10 8.2, at the default multiplier, an Extended Export Bus from ExtendedAE asks its neighbour for 8, 64, 256, 512 or 768 items at 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 speed cards, in one go. By the research's inference, ExtendedAE's Precise Export Bus asks for over 99 at 2 or more cards outside pulse mode, and AdvancedAE's ME Advanced IO Bus asks for up to the same amounts. Trash Cans 1.1.0 accepts the whole stack and keeps it in a list it later saves, and Minecraft's save format allows a stack count of 1 to 99 only. A 768 stack throws an error on save, and the game crashes. Do not feed those buses at 2 or more speed cards into a Trash Can. Trash Cans 1.1.1 is reported to fix it. 8.2 ships 1.1.0.

What is Trash Cans?

3 parts

Trash Cans adds trash cans that void items, fluids and energy. Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and for energy you can set a transfer limit. The mod also says there is no cap on how much or how fast you can void.[1]

The pack includes Trash Cans 1.1.0+a, built for Minecraft 1.20.4.[2]

The four trash cans

  • Item Trash Can: voids items, with filters set in its GUI.[1]
  • Fluid Trash Can: voids liquids and gases, with fluid filters set in its GUI.[1]
  • Energy Trash Can: voids energy, with a transfer limit set in its GUI.[1]
  • Ultimate Trash Can: voids items, fluids and energy, with item and liquid filters plus an energy transfer limit.[1]

Good to know

If you delete something by accident, the mod lets you retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]

Voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default in the mod and can be enabled in its config file. The sources don't show whether this pack changed that, so check the config in your own instance.[1]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book has a quest called "The Trash Cans" quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44). What the quest asks of you is to hand in OR Filter, not a trash can item, so it says nothing about how the mod itself behaves.[3]

How do you get started with Trash Cans?

5 parts

Trash cans let you destroy things you don't want: items, fluids and energy. This pack has four of them, and each has its own crafting recipe. The pack's quest book also has a quest called "The Trash Cans" quest in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44).[1][3][4]

First, the Item Trash Can

Start with the Item Trash Can. It voids items and has a filter for up to 9 items, so you can clear out junk and keep the good stuff.[1][4][5]

Next, the Liquid Trash Can

Then make the Liquid Trash Can. It voids liquids and gasses, and it also has a filter for up to 9 fluids.[4][5]

Then, the Energy Trash Can

The Energy Trash Can voids energy. It can also limit the energy transfer rate, and you set that limit inside its screen.[1][4][5]

Finally, the Ultimate Trash Can

Once you have the item, liquid and energy trash cans, you can combine them into the Ultimate Trash Can. It voids items, fluids and energy in a single block. Crafting it also earns you an advancement.[4][5]

Good to know

If you delete something by accident, you can get it back. In this pack item retrieval is switched on through retrieveDeletedItems, and the mod's own page says you can retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items.[1][6]

Watch out: Voiding radioactive fluids from Mekanism is off in this pack, because allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false. A trash can will not get rid of nuclear waste unless that option is changed.[6]

How does Trash Cans work?

5 parts

Trash Cans is a simple mod: you place a can, and whatever you push into it is gone. There are no multiblocks or processing steps. What matters is which can you pick, and what you set up in its screen.[1]

The cans

There is no cap on how much a can will void. Items, fluids and energy can be voided as much and as fast as you want, so you don't have to worry about a can filling up.[1]

Filters and limits

Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted. You set the filter inside the can's screen. With a blacklist you pick what gets destroyed, and with a whitelist you pick the list the can applies instead.[1]

Energy works differently: instead of a filter, you set an energy transfer limit in the GUI. The ultimate can combines both, with filters for items and fluids and a limit for energy.[1]

Retrieving deleted items

If you void something by accident, you can get it back from the trash can screen. The mod keeps up to the last 6 deleted items for this.[1]

In this pack, retrieveDeletedItems is set to true, so retrieval is switched on. The pack's value matches the mod's default.[6]

Voiding Mekanism nuclear waste

Radioactive fluids from Mekanism are protected by default. allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false in this pack, which is also the mod's default, so the cans won't void nuclear waste unless you change that option to true.[1][6]

Crafting

Each can has its own crafting recipe in this pack. These are the exact recipes the pack uses.[4]

How do you progress through Trash Cans?

3 parts

The Trash Cans have a simple tier path: the basic cans first, then an Ultimate can that builds on them. The recipe dump lists the Item, Liquid, Energy and Ultimate cans as mod recipes, so none of them is a pack-made recipe.[4]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book has a quest called "The Trash Cans" quest. It sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book and holds 37 quests. What the quest asks for is an OR Filter filter item rather than one named trash can.[3]

Tier 1: the three basic cans

The basic cans are the Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can and the Energy Trash Can. None of them needs another can first, so you can make them in any order. The recipes below are the ones the pack uses.[4]

Tier 2: the Ultimate Trash Can

The Ultimate Trash Can is the top of the path. It is a shapeless recipe, so the layout doesn't matter. It takes one each of the item, liquid and energy cans, which means you have to build the basic cans before you can make it.[4]

How does Trash Cans work with other mods?

3 parts

The one place this mod ties into the rest of the pack is the Creative Fluid Tank. The pack adds two crafting recipes for Creative Fluid Tank, and both of them need the Liquid Trash Can as an ingredient.[4]

Both recipes are added by the pack and use the Extended Crafting shaped table recipe type. They also pull in fluid-related items from lots of other mods, so check the recipe blocks below for the full list.[4]

Creative Fluid Tank, first recipe

This version uses Mekanism and Mekanism Extras fluid tanks of several tiers.

Creative Fluid Tank, second recipe

This version swaps those tanks for 16 Fluid Tank Tokens.

So the difference between the two is that the second recipe drops the Mekanism and Mekanism Extras fluid tanks and asks for 16 of Fluid Tank Token instead. The Liquid Trash Can is needed either way.[4]

In the quest book

The quest "The Trash Cans" quest sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the book. In that chapter's list it comes right after the entangled quest and before the Cobblestone Generator quest. Its task is an item filter entry rather than an item from another mod, so the quest itself does not link the Trash Cans to anything else.[3]

Outside of these two recipes, the sources I have show no other pack recipes or quests that combine Trash Cans items with another mod's items.[3][4]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Trash Cans?

1 part

Trash Cans has one quest in this pack: "The Trash Cans" quest. It sits in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 in the quest book and holds 37 quests.[3]

What the quest asks for

"The Trash Cans" quest has a single item task, and the item it asks for is OR Filter. It has no description text in the quest book.[3]

You may notice that the task is not a Trash Cans item. A few other quests in the same chapter use the same item for their task: "Compact Machines" quest, "The Compasses" quest and "Item Collectors" quest.[3]

Unverified Which Trash Cans items count toward this task is not shown in the available quest data, so check the quest in-game before you build anything for it.

The chapter is a grab bag of utility mods, from storage and automation to building tools. This is the only chapter in the sources that has a Trash Cans quest. The sources don't say how the chapter's quests are ordered or whether any of them must be finished first.[3]

Which Trash Cans config options matter?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Trash Cans keeps its config small. There are two options in the common config, and in this pack both are left at the mod's default values, so nothing has been changed from stock.[7]

  • retrieveDeletedItems is set to true in the pack, which is also the default. It lets you retrieve recently deleted items from the trash can screen, so you can recover something you voided by accident. The mod page says up to the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1][7]
  • allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false in the pack, which is also the default. This controls whether radioactive fluids from Mekanism can be voided. The mod page notes you can enable it in the config file if you want to.[1][7]
Tip: If you accidentally delete something, open the trash can screen and check the retrieval list. Since the pack keeps retrieval enabled, you get a safety net for recent deletions.[1][7]
Watch out: Because nuclear waste voiding is off in this pack, you can't use a trash can to dispose of Mekanism radioactive fluids unless you change the config yourself.[1][7]

What changed in Trash Cans between versions?

1 part

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Trash Cans 1.1.0+a, using the file trashcans-1.1.0a-forge-mc1.20.4.jar. The pack has had the mod since 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so every release below is already behind the version you are playing.[2]

Release by release

  • 1.1.0a: fixed a crash on Minecraft 1.20.1 when encoding packets. That fix names 1.20.1, and this pack uses the 1.20.4 build, so it is unverified whether it affects you.[2][8]
  • 1.1.0: added a tab on the trash can screen to retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items, plus a config option to disable retrieving deleted items. Item and fluid interaction with other mods was also improved, and Japanese and Turkish translations were added, with the Russian ones updated.[8][9]
  • 1.0.18b: fixed a crash when dragging items from JEI into the trash can filters.[8][9][10]
  • 1.0.18a: fixed fluid trash cans not interacting with pipes.[8][9][10]
  • 1.0.18: added Spanish, Ukrainian and Korean translations and updated the Simplified Chinese ones.[8][9][10]
  • 1.0.17: the initial release of Trash Cans for Minecraft 1.20.[8][9][10]
Tip: The biggest change for you in play is 1.1.0. If you delete something by accident, open the trash can screen and check the retrieve tab, which holds up to the last 6 deleted items. Remember there is a config option that can turn this off.[8][9]
