Trash Cans is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 1.1.1+a. Trash Cans adds trash cans which can be used to void items, liquids, and energy! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • Game crashes when an accelerated Extended Export Bus feeds a Trash Can
Read from the jars and not run in game: in All the Mods 10 8.2, at the default multiplier, an Extended Export Bus from ExtendedAE asks its neighbour for 8, 64, 256, 512 or 768 items at 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 speed cards, in one go. By the research's inference, ExtendedAE's Precise Export Bus asks for over 99 at 2 or more cards outside pulse mode, and AdvancedAE's ME Advanced IO Bus asks for up to the same amounts. Trash Cans 1.1.0 accepts the whole stack and keeps it in a list it later saves, and Minecraft's save format allows a stack count of 1 to 99 only. A 768 stack throws an error on save, and the game crashes. Do not feed those buses at 2 or more speed cards into a Trash Can. Trash Cans 1.1.1 is reported to fix it. 8.2 ships 1.1.0.

What is Trash Cans?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Trash Cans is a simple utility mod that gives you a way to get rid of things you don't want. It adds trash cans that can void items, fluids (liquids and gasses) and energy. This pack includes version 1.0.18 of the mod.[1][2]

The four trash cans

  • Item Trash Can: voids items, and you can set up item filters in its GUI.[1]
  • Fluid Trash Can: voids liquids and gasses, with fluid filters in its GUI.[1]
  • Energy Trash Can: voids energy, and you can set a transfer limit in its GUI.[1]
  • Ultimate Trash Can: handles items, fluids and energy in one block, with the same item and fluid filters and the same energy transfer limit.[1]

Items and fluids can be filtered with either a whitelist or a blacklist. That lets you void only the junk you pick, or everything except the things you want to keep.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone whose machines keep producing byproducts, whose tanks are overflowing, or whose energy network needs somewhere to dump surplus power. The mod has no cap on how much it can void or how fast, so a trash can won't become a bottleneck in your setup.[1]

Tip: Deleted something by accident? The mod lets you retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]
Watch out: Voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default in the mod's config and has to be switched on there. Whether this pack changes that setting is unverified.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The sources don't place Trash Cans at any particular stage of progression. No quests in this pack involve it, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional quality-of-life block that you can craft whenever you need it. The mod also has no in-jar guidebook.[1][2]

How do you get started with Trash Cans?

5 parts

Trash Cans has one job: getting rid of stuff you don't want. It adds trash cans that void items, fluids and energy, and each one has its own recipe in the pack. Here they are in a sensible order to make them.[1][3]

Item trash can: your first one

Start with the Item Trash Can. It voids items and contains a filter for up to 9 items, so you can choose what it takes. The mod page says items can be whitelisted or blacklisted in its screen.[1][3][4]

Liquid trash can: for fluids and gasses

Next comes the Liquid Trash Can. It voids liquids and gasses, and it has a filter for up to 9 fluids.[3][4]

Energy trash can: for extra power

The Energy Trash Can voids energy. It can also limit the energy transfer rate, and you set that limit inside its screen.[1][3][4]

Ultimate trash can: everything in one block

The Ultimate Trash Can voids items, fluids and energy in a single block. Crafting it also has its own advancement. If you know you want all of that in one place, you can aim for it straight away.[3][4]

Good to know before you start

  • There is no limit on how much a trash can voids, and no limit on how fast.[1]
  • You can recover a mistake. retrieveDeletedItems is set to true in this pack, so the trash can screen lets you retrieve recently deleted items. The mod page says that is up to the last 6 items.[1][5]
  • Mekanism radioactive fluids are protected. allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false in this pack, so nuclear waste can't be voided unless you change that option.[1][5]
Tip: Set up the filters in the can's screen rather than voiding everything. The item and liquid cans each hold up to 9 filter entries.[1][4]

How does Trash Cans work?

5 parts

Trash Cans is a simple mod: you place a can and it voids whatever you send into it. What matters is picking the right can for the thing you want to destroy, and knowing what each can's screen lets you set up.[1]

The cans

Filters and limits

Item and fluid filters can be set as a whitelist or a blacklist. That lets you void only the things you name, or void everything except them. The energy can has a transfer limit instead of a filter, so you decide how much energy flows into it.[1]

There is no cap on how much a can will void, and no speed cap either. Items, fluids and energy all go in as much and as fast as you send them.[1]

Getting deleted items back

If you void something by accident, the trash can screen can bring it back. The mod keeps up to the last 6 deleted items for this. This pack leaves retrieveDeletedItems on (true), so the retrieval feature is available.[1][5]

Nuclear waste

Radioactive fluids from Mekanism are a special case. In this pack allowVoidingNuclearWaste is false, which is also the mod's default, so the cans will not void them. If you want that, you have to switch the option to true in the config file.[1][5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: trashcans:ultimate_trash_can

This one is a shapeless recipe, and crafting it also earns you an advancement.

Each can drops itself as an item when you break it, so you can pick one up and move it without losing it.[6][7][8][9]

How do you progress through Trash Cans?

2 parts

Trash Cans in this pack comes as the Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can, the Energy Trash Can and the Ultimate Trash Can. Each one has its own crafting recipe, shown below exactly as the pack has it.[3]

Recipes

The item, liquid and energy cans are all made on a crafting table with a shaped recipe, so the layout of the ingredients matters. The ultimate can is the odd one out, because its recipe is shapeless and the ingredients can go anywhere in the grid.[3]

Moving them around

Every one of these blocks has a loot table that drops the block itself, so you can break a placed trash can and pick it back up to move it.[6][7][8][9]

Which Trash Cans config options matter?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Trash Cans keeps its config small. There are two options in the common config, and in this pack both are left at the mod's default values, so nothing has been changed from stock.[10]

  • retrieveDeletedItems is set to true in the pack, which is also the default. It lets you retrieve recently deleted items from the trash can screen, so you can recover something you voided by accident. The mod page says up to the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1][10]
  • allowVoidingNuclearWaste is set to false in the pack, which is also the default. This controls whether radioactive fluids from Mekanism can be voided. The mod page notes you can enable it in the config file if you want to.[1][10]
Tip: If you accidentally delete something, open the trash can screen and check the retrieval list. Since the pack keeps retrieval enabled, you get a safety net for recent deletions.[1][10]
Watch out: Because nuclear waste voiding is off in this pack, you can't use a trash can to dispose of Mekanism radioactive fluids unless you change the config yourself.[1][10]

What changed in Trash Cans between versions?

3 parts

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Trash Cans 1.1.1+a, and the pack has carried the mod since 1.0.2 or earlier. Here is what changed across the mod's own releases, newest first.[11]

Trash Cans 1.1.1a and 1.1.1

  • 1.1.1a (the version in this pack): fixed a crash when saving deleted items.[11][12]
  • 1.1.1: fixed a crash caused by CustomSlot#isActive being obfuscated.[12]
  • 1.1.1: fixed a crash when saving deleted items with a stack size greater than 99.[12]

Trash Cans 1.1.0

This release added a tab to the trash can screen where you can retrieve up to the last 6 items you deleted, plus a config option to disable retrieving deleted items. So an accidental delete is not necessarily gone for good.[12]

  • Item and fluid interaction with other mods was improved.[12]
  • Fixed the targets for dragging items for JEI being offset.[12]
  • Fixed dragging from JEI not working for fluids.[12]
  • Added Japanese and Turkish translations, and updated the Russian translations.[12]

Trash Cans 1.0.18

The changelog lists 1.0.18 as the initial release of Trash Cans for Minecraft 1.21.11, directly under an entry headed "Update to Minecraft 26.1". The jar in this pack is built for Minecraft 26.1 on NeoForge.[11][12]

Unverified The pack's own changelogs are where changes to this mod's version between pack releases would be told, and the sources here show no entries for Trash Cans, so what changed for it between pack releases is not confirmed.
