What is RFTools Utility?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
RFTools Utility is the 1.14+ version of the original RFTools, a collection of general tools and utilities. Its project page describes it as the home for RFTools blocks that don't fit a more specific category.[1]
This pack includes version 1.21-7.0.12 of the mod.[2]
What's inside
According to the mod's project page, it contains these blocks and tools:[1]
- Automatic crafter[1]
- Environmental controller[1]
- Logic blocks[1]
- Information screens[1]
- Spawner system[1]
- Multitank[1]
- Teleportation system[1]
Related mods
The mod is intended to be used together with RFTools Power. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib.[1]
How do you get started with RFTools Utility?
5 parts
RFTools Utility is a collection of general RFTools blocks: an automatic crafter, the environmental controller, logic blocks, information screens, a spawner system, a multitank and a teleportation system. Many of its recipes use parts from RFTools Base, such as the Machine Base and Machine Frame. Here is the order I would make things in.[1][3]
Start with a Screen
Make the Screen first. It is built on a Machine Base, and it is what the mod's screen modules are made for, so you see results straight away.[3][4]

Then craft a module for it. The Clock Screen Module displays the current time, and the Button Screen Module sends a redstone signal when pressed.[4]

Counter
The Counter counts redstone pulses up to a maximum you set, then sends out a pulse of its own. The Counter Screen Module shows its current count on a screen. The pack changed the Counter recipe, so don't trust the mod's defaults or older guides.[3][4]

Crafter
The Crafter Tier 1 is the automatic crafter, built on a Machine Frame. Tier 2 and Tier 3 are upgrade recipes that take the previous tier as an ingredient, so make Tier 1 first and upgrade it later.[1][3]

Module Template and the environmental controller
The Module Template is the base ingredient for the effect modules. Modules such as the Haste Module and Glowing Module are crafted with a Syringe. The ModulePlus Template is the next step up and is made from a Module Template.[3]

Effect modules are used in the Environmental Controller. For example, the Blindness Module gives blindness when used in it. The pack changed the controller recipe, so check the in-pack version before you gather materials.[3][4]

Teleportation
When you want to travel, make a Matter Receiver for the destination and a Charged Porter to use. Sneak-right click the receiver with the porter to set the destination, then right click to teleport. The Advanced Charged Porter works the same way, and the pack changed its recipe.[3][4]

How does RFTools Utility work?
5 parts
RFTools Utility is a grab bag of general-purpose machines: an automatic crafter, an environmental controller, logic blocks, information screens, a spawner system, a multitank and a teleportation system. It needs RFTools Base and McJtyLib to run. Here is how the pieces that the sources describe actually work in this pack.[1]
The automatic crafter
The Crafter Tier 1 handles up to 2 recipes at once. Tier 2 handles up to 4, and Tier 3 handles up to 8. All three tiers let a recipe use the crafting results of previous steps, so you can chain intermediate products inside one machine.[4]
Tier 2 is an upgrade of the Tier 1 crafter rather than a from-scratch build, as the recipe below shows. The crafters also have an infusing bonus that reduces their power consumption.[3][4]

The environmental controller
The Environmental Controller applies various effects to a large area. What it does depends on the modules you put in it. Each module has a power cost, which its tooltip shows under "Uses". The pack changed the controller's recipe, so don't rely on recipes from other sources.[3][4]

Modules that work in the controller include these:[4]
- Featherfalling Module halves fall damage, while Featherfalling+ Module reduces it to zero.[4]
- Flight Module gives creative-type flying.[4]
- Blindness Module gives blindness, and its tooltip warns that it only works on mobs.[4]
- Peaceful Module is also made with a syringe, and the pack changed its recipe.[3]
Effect modules are made with the syringe recipe type, so the Syringe, the Module Template and the ModulePlus Template all show up in the recipes below.[3]

Logic blocks
The Counter counts redstone pulses up to a maximum you set. When it reaches that maximum, it sends out a redstone pulse of its own. The pack changed its recipe.[3][4]

The Analog does simple calculations on an input redstone signal, based on two side inputs. The Digit block shows the strength of the input redstone signal.[4]

Screens and modules
The Screen is modular, so on its own it shows nothing. You insert modules to choose what it displays. The Creative Screen works the same way but needs no power. Normal screen modules list a power usage on their tooltips.[4]
Most modules need a target, which you set by sneak right-clicking:[4]
- Counter Screen Module and Counter Plus Screen Module display a Counter's current count. Sneak right-click a counter to set the target.[4]
- The Energy Screen Module shows a machine's energy status. Sneak right-click the machine to set it.[4]
- The Fluid Screen Module shows a tank. Sneak right-click the tank to set it.[4]
- Button Screen Module sends a redstone signal when pressed. Sneak right-click a redstone receiver to create a channel and set it on the receiver. You can also use it on a transmitter or an already-set receiver to copy the channel to the button.[4]

Teleportation
The Dialing Device lets you dial any nearby Matter Transmitter to any Matter Receiver in the Minecraft universe, and this takes power. Put a Destination Analyzer next to the dialing device and you can also check whether the destination has enough power to be safe. The dialing device has the same infusing bonus for reduced power consumption.[4]
For portable travel, the Charged Porter is an RF-charged item that teleports you to a matter receiver you set earlier. Sneak right-click a receiver to set the destination, then right-click to teleport. The Advanced Charged Porter works the same way according to its tooltip. The pack changed its recipe, and it is crafted from a Charged Porter.[3][4]

How do you progress through RFTools Utility?
5 parts
RFTools Utility in this pack is not one straight ladder. It is a set of small upgrade chains, and the in-pack recipes show how they connect. Below I follow those recipes chain by chain.[3]
Starter blocks
Several items are built on the RFTools Base machine parts. Logic (Logic), Analog (Analog), Sequencer (Sequencer), Digit (Digit), Screen (Screen) and Inventory Checker (Inventory Checker) all use a Machine Base. Crafter Tier 1 (Crafter Tier 1), Dialing Device (Dialing Device) and Matter Booster (Matter Booster) use a Machine Frame instead.[3]
The pack changes the Counter recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

The Crafter line
The Crafter upgrades are simple. Crafter Tier 2 is made from a Crafter Tier 1, and Crafter Tier 3 is made from a Crafter Tier 2. Both recipes use the copy_nbt recipe type, so the crafter's stored data is carried over to the upgraded block.[3]

How does RFTools Utility work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Utility doesn't stand alone. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. The in-pack recipes show the same pattern: the building blocks come from RFTools Base, and a handful of vanilla items finish the job.[1]
RFTools Base parts
Almost everything in this mod is built on Machine Base or Machine Frame. The smaller logic and redstone pieces, such as the Logic, Timer and Sensor, use the Machine Base. The bigger machines, such as the Matter Transmitter, Tank and Spawner, use the Machine Frame.[3]
The upgraded modules also lean on RFTools Base. The Module Template needs a Dimensional Shard and an Infused Diamond. You then turn it into a ModulePlus Template with an Infused Diamond and an Infused Enderpearl. The Plus modules use that template, so you need RFTools Base materials before you can make any of them.[3]
Vanilla items
The upgraded modules add a vanilla item that fits their effect. For example, the Featherfalling+ Module uses a Feather, and the Regeneration+ Module uses a Golden Apple. The Flight Module uses a Ghast Tear, and the Waterbreathing Module uses a Prismarine Shard. Those modules, along with the Peaceful Module, use the Syringe recipe type instead of normal crafting.[3]
Redstone parts such as the Comparator, Clock and Redstone Torch show up in the logic and timing blocks. The matter system leans on redstone blocks: the Matter Booster and Matter Beamer both use a Redstone Block.[3]
Many recipes ask for a Forge tag rather than one fixed item, for example ender pearls, glass, iron ingots or chests. Any item that belongs to the tag is accepted, so you aren't locked into a specific item.[3]

Which RFTools Utility config options matter?
1 part
RFTools Utility only has a handful of options in this pack's config, and they all live in the client file, screen.useTruetype and its neighbours. They all deal with how text is drawn through the truetype font system.[6]
Font options, as the pack sets them
- screen.useTruetype is set to false in this pack. True means the truetype font is used, false means the vanilla font is used, so the pack currently uses the vanilla font.[6]
- screen.forceNoTruetype is set to false. Setting it to true disables truetype in all cases, which is meant for when the truetype font is causing issues.[6]
- screen.fontName is set to "rftoolsutility:ubuntu". This is the default truetype font to use.[6]
- screen.fontSize is set to 40. It is the size of the font, and the accepted range is 0.0 to 1,000,000.0.[6]
- screen.additionalCharacters is left empty in this pack. It lists extra characters the truetype system should support.[6]
Unverified The sources do not give the mod's own default values for these options, so it is not confirmed whether the pack changed any of them.
What changed in RFTools Utility between versions?
1 part
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships RFTools Utility 1.20-6.0.7 (file rftoolsutility-1.20-6.0.7.jar). The mod was first included in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[7]
What changed in 1.20-6.0.7
The mod's own changelog for 1.20-6.0.7 lists a single change: various Patchouli documentation updates and fixes. So the in-game guide entries got touched up, and nothing in that entry points to new items or changed mechanics.[8]
Unverified Whether the pack changed anything about this mod across its releases is not shown in the sources here, because they contain no pack changelog entries for it.
