What is RFTools Builder?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base that adds the builder, all of the shape cards, and the shield system. If you like automating big construction jobs or protecting your base with shields, this is the mod you're looking for.[1]
It's meant to be used together with RFTools Power. It also needs RFTools Base and McJtyLib to work, so those come along with it.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships RFTools Builder version 1.21-7.0.1. It has been in the pack since version 1.27 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]
Unverified No sources were available on where RFTools Builder fits into the pack's progression, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Recipes, config values and usage details for the builder, shape cards and shields are therefore not covered in this overview.
How do you get started with RFTools Builder?
5 parts
RFTools Builder adds the builder, all the shape cards and the shield system. It is meant to be used together with RFTools Power. Here is the order I'd make things in, and why.[1]
Step one: make a Shape Card
Start with the Shape Card. It represents an area that the shield or the builder can use, so you want one before you set up either machine. To mark an area, sneak right click on a builder to start mark mode, then right click to mark two corners of the area you want.[3]
Step two: make the Builder
The Builder is the main machine of the mod. It can quarry areas, pump liquids, move, copy and swap structures, collect items and XP, move entities and build structures.[3]
Step three: combine cards with the Composer
Once you have a few cards, the Composer combines shape cards into a composition card. It also lets you rotate, flip and apply boolean operations to each child shape.[3]
Step four: start a shield
The Shield Projector Tier 1 forms a shield out of adjacent template blocks. Template blocks come in colors, such as Blue Shield Template, and the set of template blocks with the same color should touch the projector.[3]

Higher tiers are crafted from the tier below, so Shield Projector Tier 2 uses a Tier 1 projector as one of its ingredients.[4]
Where the pack changes things
The pack changed the recipe for Shape Card (Quarry). It is crafted in an Extended Crafting table and needs a far bigger set of ingredients than the basic card, so plan for it as a later goal.[4]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: rftoolsbuilder:shape_card_quarry
The pack also changed the recipes for Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry). Both build on the quarry card. Shape Card (Void) is a recipe the pack added, and it is also made from a quarry card.[4]

How does RFTools Builder work?
6 parts
The Builder is the heart of this mod. It can quarry areas, pump liquids, move, copy or swap structures, collect items and XP, move entities and build structures. Infusing it gives a bonus: reduced power consumption and increased speed. What it does in any given job depends on the shape card you feed it.[3]
Shape cards
A Shape Card represents an area that the shield or the builder can use. To mark an area, sneak right click on the builder to start mark mode, then right click to mark two corners of the area you want.[3]
The Composer combines shape cards into a composition card. It also lets you rotate, flip and apply boolean operations to each child shape. Infusing it reduces its power consumption.[3]
The special shape cards are the ones that change what the builder does with an area: Shape Card (Quarry), Shape Card (Fortune Quarry), Shape Card (Pump), Shape Card (Clearing Pump), Shape Card (Placing Liquids) and Shape Card (Void). The mod also has clearing and silk quarry variants.[3][4]
Pack changes to the quarry cards
The pack changed how you get the Quarry card. It is crafted in an Extended Crafting shaped table, and it needs the plain Shape Card as one of its ingredients.[4][5]

The Fortune Quarry card recipe is also marked as changed by the pack. It is built from the Quarry card.[4]

The Void card is added by the pack's own scripts. It is crafted in a normal crafting grid from the Quarry card.[4][6]

Shield system
A Shield Projector forms a shield out of adjacent template blocks. The template blocks come in blue, green, red and yellow, and the set of template blocks with the same color should touch the projector. The shield can filter based on the type of mob and do various things, such as damage or being solid. Use the Smart Wrench to add sections to the shield. Infusing a projector reduces its power consumption and increases its damage.[3]

Projectors upgrade through tiers. Shield Projector Tier 3 is crafted from a Shield Projector Tier 2.[4]

Space chamber and copying areas
The Space Chamber Controller is one of the eight corners of an area of space you want to copy or move elsewhere. The other corners should be normal Space Chamber blocks.[3]

The Space Card links to a space chamber. Sneak right-click it on a space chamber controller to set its channel. Right-click in the air to show an overview of the area contents. Insert it in a builder to copy or move the linked area. The card shows a base cost, and the final cost depends on the infusion level.[3]
Vehicles and movers
The Vehicle Builder uses a space card linked to a space chamber to make a vehicle inside a Vehicle Card.[3]
A Mover moves vehicles to other movers. Use it together with a Mover Controller, which you place next to one of the movers. Infusing the controller reduces its power consumption.[3]

The Mover Control block goes inside your vehicle and controls the movement of the platform. It has four screen pages, and the Mover Status block gives more information about the platform. You can turn Mover Control (Page 4) back into the first-page Mover Control with a shapeless recipe.[3][4]
Power
The mod is intended to be used together with RFTools Power. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib.[1]
Unverified Exact power costs, fluid handling and item automation details (such as which sides accept pipes or hoppers) are not shown in the sources here, and this pack has no config file for the mod.
How do you progress through RFTools Builder?
5 parts
The sources here show no quest chapter for this mod, so the progression below follows the in-pack recipes. You can read how far along you are from what each crafting grid asks for.[4]
Tier 1: the basic machines
The Builder, Composer, Space Chamber, Mover and Vehicle Builder are all built around a Machine Frame plus common vanilla materials. These are the mod's own recipes, not changed by the pack.[4]

The Builder is the usual starting point.
The Scanner and Projector are a small step up, because both also need an Infused Diamond.[4]
Most of the cards in this mod start from the Shape Card, which has a plain crafting recipe.[4]
Shield Projector tiers
The Shield Projector Tier 1 is crafted from scratch. Shield Projector Tier 2, Shield Projector Tier 3 and Shield Projector Tier 4 are upgrade recipes that take the previous projector as an ingredient, so you build up one tier at a time. The recipes are shown below.[4]

The Quarry card chain
This is the real endgame gate. The pack changed the recipe for the Shape Card (Quarry): it is now an Extended Crafting shaped table recipe, and it starts from a Shape Card. It also uses netherite-diamond gear, Dimensional Shards, infused items and dimensional essences.[4][5]

Dimensional Shards
Since shards gate the higher shield tiers and the Quarry cards, it helps that the pack adds shapeless recipes turning dimensional blocks into Dimensional Shard. For example, a Dimensional Blank Block gives 4 shards.[6]
Side branches
- Liquid and pump cards: Shape Card (Placing Liquids) and Shape Card (Pump) both start from a basic Shape Card. The Shape Card (Clearing Pump) starts from the Pump card.[4]
- Clearing quarry cards: each quarry card has a clearing version made by adding glass, for example Shape Card (Clearing Quarry). The matching dirt recipes turn a clearing card back into the normal one.[4]
- Mover line: Mover Controller, Mover Control and Mover Status are the mover's control blocks. Mover Control (Page 2), Mover Control (Page 3) and Mover Control (Page 4) are each made from the previous page, and page 4 can be turned back into the first.[4]
- Space Chamber line: Space Chamber Controller builds on the Space Chamber, and the Space Card has its own simple recipe.[4]
- Vehicle line: Vehicle Card is the base for the Vehicle Control Module and the Vehicle Status Module.[4]

How does RFTools Builder work with other mods?
4 parts
RFTools Builder is an add-on, so it leans on other mods right from the start. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is meant to be used together with RFTools Power.[1]
Machine Frames and the basic machines
The Machine Frame from RFTools Base is the core of most of the mod's machines, including the Builder, Composer, Mover and Vehicle Builder. The Projector and Scanner also use an Infused Diamond. These are the mod's own recipes and the pack has not changed them. Here are a few of them.[4]

Dimensional Shards from RFTools Dimensions
The Dimensional Shard shows up in the higher shield tiers and in the quarry cards. In this pack, a script adds shapeless recipes that break RFTools Dimensions blocks down into shards. The Dimensional Blank Block gives 4 shards, and the other dimensional block variants give between 2 and 3 each.[6]
The Shield Projector Tier 3 and Shield Projector Tier 4 upgrades each use a shard on top of the previous shield tier. The Tier 4 upgrade also needs a Nether Star.[4]

The quarry cards
This is where the pack connects the most mods, and it changes the mod's defaults. The Shape Card (Quarry) is made in an Extended Crafting table, and the pack's script replaces the mod's own recipe. It draws on Advanced Netherite, RFTools Dimensions and RFTools Base items, so this card is an endgame craft.[4][5]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)
Recipe id: rftoolsbuilder:shape_card_quarry
The Advanced Netherite parts are Block of Netherite-Diamond, Netherite-Diamond Pickaxe and Netherite-Diamond Shovel. The script asks for the tools undamaged.
The pack also changes the upgraded quarry cards. The Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) both start from a finished quarry card. The Fortune version also uses a Ghast Tear, while the Silk version uses a Nether Star.[4]

A pack-only card: Shape Card (Void)
The Shape Card (Void) is a recipe the pack adds. It starts from a finished quarry card and ties the mod into the pack's own custom endgame items.[4][6]

The pack's own Infinity 4 and Obsidian go around the quarry card, 4 of each.
Which RFTools Builder config options matter?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide
RFTools Builder has just one config file in this pack that the sources cover: the client-side file. It only affects visuals and sound on your own machine. Every option here that lists a mod default is set to that default, so the pack hasn't changed any of them.[7]
Builder
- builder.showProgressHud is set to true in this pack. When it's on, a holo HUD showing the current progress appears above the builder. The sources don't list a mod default for this one, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[7]
Scanner and projector
- scanner.baseProjectorVolume is 0.4, the same as the mod default. It controls the projector sound, and 0.0 turns it off. The range is 0.0 to 1.0, so turn it down or off if the hum bothers you.[7]
- scanner.projectorFlashTimeout is 400, the same as the mod default. It's the number of milliseconds a scanline flash exists on the client, with a range of 10 to 1,000,000.[7]
- scanner.locatorBeaconHeight is 30, the same as the mod default. It sets the height of the beacon when beacons are used. It must be greater than 0.[7]
- scanner.clientRenderDataTimeout is 10,000, the same as the mod default. It's the number of milliseconds before the client removes shape render data that hasn't been used, with a range of 100 to 1,000,000. Lowering it frees memory faster, but shape renders have to be updated more often.[7]
What changed in RFTools Builder between versions?
2 parts
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships RFTools Builder 1.20-6.0.10. The mod was already in the pack by version 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it has been there for a good while.[8]
1.20-6.0.9
- The new Scanner, Projector and Composer were added. The mod's changelog says they are still beta and might have bugs, so keep that in mind before you trust them with a big build.[9]
- Fixed a problem where the space chamber controller did not remember its channel.[9]
- Various Patchouli documentation updates and fixes.[9]
