What is RFTools Control?
2 parts
RFTools Control is an addon for the RFTools mods that lets you automate things with a visual, grid-based programming language. You arrange opcodes in a grid, and the program can move items around, control redstone, check energy (RF) and more.[1]
The two main blocks are the programmer, where you build your programs, and the processor, which runs them. The mod also provides networking.[1]
What your programs can reach
Your programs can work with regular inventories. They can also access a storage scanner controlled system directly, which is handy if you already run RFTools storage.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships RFTools Control version 1.20-7.0.4 (rftoolscontrol-1.20-7.0.4.jar). It has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]
How do you get started with RFTools Control?
6 parts
RFTools Control is an addon that lets you automate things with a visual, grid-based programming language. You arrange opcodes in a grid to move items around, control redstone, check energy and more. Two blocks sit at the heart of it: the Programmer to write programs and the Processor to run them. Here is the order I'd build things in.[1][3]
First, make a Card Base
The Card Base is the base ingredient for many of the items and machines in this mod, so it comes before anything else.[3]
Next, build the Programmer
The Programmer is where you make programs on a program card for the processor, so it's the natural first machine.[3]

Then, make a Program Card
A Program Card stores your programs. You write to it with the Programmer.[3]

Build the Processor and a CPU core
The Processor executes your programs for automation. It needs a CPU core inside it to run programs, and the CPU Core B500 is the entry-level core that the next core upgrade is built from. The core tooltips show operations per tick and RF/FE per tick, so check them when you compare cores.[3][4]
Add extras as your programs grow
A RAM Chip 8E goes into the processor and gives you eight extra variables (max 32). It's worth making once your programs need more variables.[3]
To reach other machines, put a Network Card in the processor. It gives access to nearby Node blocks within a 17x17x17 area. Use 'net setup <name>' in the processor console to set up the network.[3]
Upgrade later
The CPU Core S1000 is the next CPU step, and the pack changed its recipe from the mod's own.[4]

The Advanced Network Card covers a 31x31x31 area and supports inter-process communication. The pack changed this recipe too.[3][4]

How does RFTools Control work?
5 parts
RFTools Control is the automation and logic addon for the RFTools mods. You arrange opcodes on a visual grid to build programs that can move items around, control redstone and check energy (RF). Your programs can work with regular inventories, and the mod also supports direct access to a system controlled by a storage scanner.[1]
The mod has two main blocks: the Programmer writes programs, and the Processor runs them. Networking is built in too.[1][3]
Programs and the processor
A program lives on a Program Card. You write it with the Programmer, then the Processor executes it for automation. Many of the items and machines in this mod build on the Card Base.[3]

The Processor will not run anything without a CPU core installed. The tiers are CPU Core B500, CPU Core S1000 and CPU Core EX2000. Each core's tooltip shows its operations per tick and its RF/FE use per tick, so check those when you compare tiers.[3]
The upgrade path runs from CPU Core B500 to CPU Core S1000 to CPU Core EX2000. The pack changed the recipe of the middle one.[4]

Variables and extra cards
- RAM Chip 8E: insert it in the Processor to get eight extra variables, up to a maximum of 32.[3]
- Graphics Card: needed if you want to draw vector graphics.[3]
- Token: does nothing by itself, but it can store information (a type and a value).[3]
Networking
To reach machines away from the Processor, put a Network Card in it. That gives access to nearby Node blocks, which the Processor can then access remotely. The card covers a 17x17x17 area. After inserting it, run 'net setup <name>' in the Processor console to set up the network.[3]
The Advanced Network Card works the same way but covers a 31x31x31 area and supports inter-process communication. The pack changed its recipe.[3][4]

If you want one Processor to talk directly to another, use a Network Identifier. Sneak right-click on the target Processor to link it.[3]
Fluids and crafting helpers
The Multi Tank holds four types of liquid. It is meant for the Processor and can't otherwise be used directly.[3]
The Crafting Station assists the Processor with auto crafting. The Workbench is a general workbench that works well with a Processor but can also be used standalone.[3]
The project page says autocrafting from the storage scanner side is not yet fully implemented, so don't count on it.[1]
Monitoring from screens and the tablet
Four screen modules let you watch or control a Processor from a Screen. For each one, sneak right-click on the Processor to set its target.[3]
- Console Screen Module: shows the Processor's console. It can also be used in a tablet.[3]
- Interaction Screen Module: lets you interact with the Processor.[3]
- Variable Screen Module: shows the variables in the Processor.[3]
- Vector Art Screen Module: shows vector art from the Processor.[3]
There is also a Tablet (processor) item for referencing remote GUIs and information. Right-click it for the Processor GUI, or sneak right-click for the tablet GUI.[3]
How do you progress through RFTools Control?
4 parts
RFTools Control progression in this pack is all about crafting order. Almost everything in the mod is built around Card Base, so make that first, then branch into machines, cards, screen modules and CPU cores.[4]

Machines
The core blocks are built around the Machine Frame from RFTools Base, so you need that frame before you can make any of them. All of these use the mod's own recipes, with no pack changes.[4]
- Programmer: the block where you write programs.[4]
- Processor: the block that runs your programs. It also needs a Card Base.[4]
- Node: a network block that needs a Card Base as well.[4]
- Workbench and Crafting Station: the crafting-themed blocks. The Crafting Station also needs a Card Base.[4]
- Multi Tank: the Multi Tank, the only machine in this list whose recipe does not use a Card Base.[4]

The network cards form a short ladder. Network Card comes first, and Advanced Network Card is the upgrade, crafted from the basic Network Card.[4]

Screen modules
The screen modules sit alongside the cards and also start from a Card Base: Console Screen Module, Interaction Screen Module, Variable Screen Module and Vector Art Screen Module. Each of these uses the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[4]
CPU core tiers
The CPU cores are the clearest tier ladder. CPU Core B500 is the entry core, CPU Core S1000 is the middle step, and CPU Core EX2000 is the top tier. Each recipe is shown below.[4]

How does RFTools Control work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Control is an addon for the RFTools family of mods, so most of its links to other mods run through RFTools Base. The Machine Frame from that mod turns up in the Control machine recipes below, so get it from RFTools Base first and the rest of the Control machines open up. Plain Redstone also shows up in several of them.[1][4]
Upgrading CPU cores
The CPU Core EX2000 is an upgrade of the CPU Core S1000, and this is where the Dimensional Shard from RFTools Base comes in.[4]

Vanilla and common-tag items
Several recipes accept any item from a shared Forge tag, so you aren't tied to one specific mod's version of the item. The Node takes any ender pearl. The Programmer and Processor take any quartz gem. The Multi Tank takes any glass and any iron ingot, so whichever mod supplies those works.[4]

Working with storage
Programs you build can reach regular inventories. The mod also supports direct access to a storage scanner controlled system. The mod's project page says autocrafting through the storage scanner is planned but not yet fully implemented.[1]
What changed in RFTools Control between versions?
