What is MEGA Cells?

MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, ranging from 1M up to 256M. It has its own progression line and components, and a jet-black visual style. This pack includes version 2.4.6-1.20.1.[1][2]
What it adds
- Item and fluid cells from 1M to 256M, in standard and portable versions.[1]
- MEGA Crafting CPUs with all-black crafting units, 1M to 256M storage, a 4-threaded co-processing unit and a matching monitor.[1]
- A MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell for infinite storage of a single item type, with bulk compression between ingots, nuggets and blocks, and auto-crafting support through the Decompression Module.[1]

Where it sits in the quest book
The main home is the "AE2 Addons" quest chapter. It is chapter 15 of 44 in the book, in the "Storage and Power" group. The a quest in "AE2 Addons" quest asks you to make 1M MEGA Item Storage Cell. It comes after one of the untitled checkmark quests in that chapter, and the chapter's other storage cell quests (chemical, mana, FE, EMC and mob cells from other add-ons) follow the same pattern.[3]
MEGA Cells also shows up in two other chapters. In "Shop" (chapter 2 of 44), the "Inscriber Presses" quest quest asks for 16 of Sky Steel Ingot among its tasks.[4]
At the other end, the "EndGame" chapter (group "Storyline", chapter 7 of 44) has the a quest in "EndGame" quest, which asks for 4 of 256M MEGA Storage Component. It also comes after an untitled quest. The chapter has 70 quests and only some of them are shown to me here, so the rest is in the quest book.[5]
How do you get started with MEGA Cells?

MEGA Cells is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that adds higher storage tiers, from 1M up to 256M. The route in this pack is simple: make sky steel, turn it into the new processor, then build your first cell and climb the tiers.[1][6]
Step 1: Sky Steel Ingots
Sky Steel Ingot is where it all starts. The MEGA Item Cell Housing, the printed circuits and the Accumulation Processor routes all use sky steel in some form, so make a stack early. The mod's own route is a world transform recipe, shown below.[6]

The quest book has a Shop quest, "Inscriber Presses" quest, that asks you to hand in Sky Steel Ingot together with Apotheotic Coin and an Meteorite Compass. The Extended Crafting chapter also has a a quest in "Extended Crafting" quest. Most of that chapter's quest text is not shown here, so check the quest book for it.[4][7]
You will also want Sky Steel Block, because the circuit cutter and one of the reaction recipes use it. A block can be turned back into 9 ingots.[6]

Step 2: The Accumulation Processor
The Accumulation Processor is the circuit used by the MEGA storage components. The mod's route goes through the inscriber: first you make the Inscriber Accumulation Press, then print a Printed Accumulation Circuit, then finish the processor.[6]

A MEGA cell is a storage component plus a housing. Start with the 1M MEGA Storage Component and the MEGA Item Cell Housing.[6]

Storage cells and components
The mod gives you item and fluid cells in both standard and portable versions, from 1M to 256M. Chemical cells (through Applied Mekanistics) and mana cells (through Applied Botanics) come in the same range. The language file also lists source cells in the same tiers.[1][9]
Each tier has its own MEGA Storage Component, for example the 1M MEGA Storage Component, the 4M MEGA Storage Component and the 16M MEGA Storage Component. The 1M and 16M component recipes are below.[6][9]

A finished cell pairs a component with a housing. The 16M MEGA Chemical Storage Cell is a shapeless craft of a 16M component and the MEGA Chemical Cell Housing. MEGA Crafting CPUs
The mod has its own crafting CPU blocks. The MEGA Crafting Unit comes with 1M, 4M, 16M, 64M and 256M MEGA Crafting Storage variants. There is also a MEGA Crafting Monitor and a MEGA Crafting Co-Processing Unit, which provides 4 co-processing threads per block.[1][9]
Bulk cells and compression
The MEGA Bulk Item Storage Cell is built for infinite storage of a single item type. With compression, it converts automatically between ingots, nuggets and blocks. Auto-crafting is fully supported through the MEGA Decompression Module, and the mod also has a Decompression Pattern item.[1][9]
Pattern providers, interfaces and energy
The MEGA Pattern Provider gives double the capacity for processing patterns. The mod also adds a MEGA Interface and a MEGA Transmutation Interface.[1][9]
For power, the Superdense Energy Cell and the Greater Energy Card increase energy storage for AE networks and portable devices.[1][9]
Radioactive cell and spent waste
The MEGA Radioactive Chemical Storage Cell can store Spent Nuclear Waste only if AllowSpentWaste is on. This pack sets it to false.[8][9]
Endgame uses
MEGA parts also show up in some of the pack's Extended Crafting endgame recipes. The Creative AE Cell (Long) uses the 256M component, the bulk component and several MEGA housings. The Universal Bulk Cell uses the 256M MEGA item, fluid, chemical and mana cells, the bulk cell and the radioactive chemical cell.[11][12]
How do you progress through MEGA Cells?

Progression with this mod follows one clear chain: Sky Steel, then the Accumulation Processor, then the MEGA storage components (1M up to 256M), then the cells and housings built from them. Several of these recipes were changed or added by the pack, so follow the recipe blocks below rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults.[6]

The mod's own changelog for the version you are running lists one change. The model JSONs used for all storage cells as they appear within chests and drives were split apart. That makes re-texturing easier for resource pack makers, for example 1.21 texture backports.[13]
If you like restyling your storage cells with a resource pack, that is the change to care about.[13]
