What is Applied Mekanistics?
2 parts
Applied Mekanistics is the official Mekanism support addon for AE2. It requires both AE2 and Mekanism, and this pack ships version 1.4.3. In short, it lets your ME network handle Mekanism chemicals.[1][2]
What it adds
- Chemical support for existing AE2 devices. You can put an import bus or an export bus on a chemical tank, put a storage bus on a radioactive waste barrel, attach pressurized tubes to interfaces, and use chemicals in crafting recipes.[1]
- Chemical storage cells in 1k, 4k, 16k and 64k sizes, so you can store gasses in your ME Drives. They don't support radioactive gasses.[1]
- Chemical P2P Tunnels for high-throughput chemical transfer. Right click a Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel to convert it.[1]
- QIO support for the Storage Bus. Place the storage bus on the side of a QIO Dashboard and it can interact with the contents of that QIO frequency.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book covers this mod in the chapter "AE2 Addons" quest, which is in the group "Storage and Power". It is chapter 15 of 44 and has 43 quests. The chapter is a shared page for many AE2 addons, not just this one.[3]
The mod's own quest is a quest in "AE2 Addons", which asks for the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell. It comes after an untitled quest in that chapter. Nothing in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite, so it is a dead end in the chapter's quest tree.[3]
It sits alongside the other storage cell quests that follow an untitled quest in the same way: a quest in "AE2 Addons", a quest in "AE2 Addons", a quest in "AE2 Addons", a quest in "AE2 Addons" and a quest in "AE2 Addons".[3]
How do you get started with Applied Mekanistics?
5 parts
Welcome to the chemical side of AE2! This addon lets your ME network handle Mekanism chemicals, and the first steps are all about storage. Here is what to make, in order.[1]
Step 1: the cell housing
Everything starts with the ME Chemical Cell Housing. Every chemical cell in the pack is built around it, so make it first. This is the pack's own recipe:[4]
Crafting Shaped

Step 2: your first chemical cell
Next, turn the housing into a 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell. It is a shapeless recipe that combines the housing with an ordinary AE2 storage component of the matching size.[4]
The pack's quest book has a quest for this cell, a quest in "AE2 Addons". It sits in the "AE2 Addons" chapter (group "Storage and Power", chapter 15 of 44) and comes after an untitled checkmark quest in that chapter.[3]
Put the cell in an ME Drive and you can store gasses in your network. The mod's description warns that these cells don't support radioactive gasses, so don't plan to keep those in them.[1]
Step 3: bigger cells
When 1k runs out, the same recipe pattern works with bigger components. In this pack you can make 4k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 16k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 64k ME Chemical Storage Cell and 256k ME Chemical Storage Cell. Here is the 4k one as an example:[4][5]
Step 4: a portable cell, if you want one
If you'd rather carry chemical storage around than put it in a drive, the pack also has portable versions, from 1k Portable Chemical Cell up to 256k Portable Chemical Cell. They use the same housing plus extra AE2 parts, so make the housing first.[4][5]

Step 5: moving chemicals around
Once you're storing chemicals, the Chemical P2P Tunnel is the tool for high-throughput chemical transfer. The mod's description says you convert a tunnel by right-clicking a Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel.[1]
This pack also adds stonecutter recipes that turn other P2P tunnels into the chemical one. Here is the one for the ME P2P tunnel:[4]

How does Applied Mekanistics work?
5 parts
Applied Mekanistics is described as the official Mekanism support addon for AE2. Instead of adding a pile of new machines, it teaches your AE2 network to handle Mekanism chemicals. You work with AE2 devices you already know, plus chemical storage cells and a chemical P2P tunnel.[1]
Chemicals on existing AE2 devices
The mod adds chemical support to existing AE2 devices. You can put an import bus on a chemical tank, an export bus on a chemical tank, or a storage bus on a radioactive waste barrel. You can also attach pressurized tubes to interfaces and use chemicals in crafting recipes.[1]
The storage bus can also interact with the contents of a QIO frequency. Just place it on the side of a QIO Dashboard.[1]
Chemical storage cells
Chemical cells let you store gasses in your ME Drives. The mod itself describes 1k, 4k, 16k and 64k cells. This pack also has a 256k cell. The sizes are 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 4k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 16k ME Chemical Storage Cell, 64k ME Chemical Storage Cell and 256k ME Chemical Storage Cell.[1][4][5]
Every cell starts with the ME Chemical Cell Housing. Here is how the housing is crafted in this pack:[4]
Crafting Shaped

| any redstone dust | Empty slot | any redstone dust |
| any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot |
Recipe id: appmek:chemical_cell_housing
To get a finished cell, combine the housing with an AE2 storage component of the matching size. The recipe is shapeless, so the layout doesn't matter. Here is the 1k cell as an example:[1][4]
Portable chemical cells
The pack also has portable chemical cells with crafting recipes in 1k, 4k, 16k and 256k sizes: 1k Portable Chemical Cell, 4k Portable Chemical Cell, 16k Portable Chemical Cell and 256k Portable Chemical Cell. They are shapeless recipes that also use the chemical cell housing.[4]

Recipe id: appmek:portable_chemical_storage_cell_1k
Chemical P2P tunnel
The Chemical P2P Tunnel is built for high-throughput chemical transfer. To convert one, right click a Mekanism chemical tank on a P2P tunnel.[1]
In this pack you can also turn other P2P tunnels into a Chemical P2P Tunnel in a stonecutter. The accepted tunnels are the item, fluid, energy, light, redstone, ME, mana, EU and pattern P2P tunnels. Here is one example:[4]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_fluid_p2p_tunnel_to_appmek_chemical_p2p_tunnel
Endgame use of the housing
The pack's own script for the Extended Crafting table uses the ME Chemical Cell Housing as one ingredient in the recipe for LONG-tier Creative Storage Cell. That is a pack-specific endgame recipe on a very large crafting grid.[6]
How do you progress through Applied Mekanistics?
6 parts
Applied Mekanistics has a short, simple progression in this pack. It is all about storing chemicals in your ME network, and the tiers are just the storage sizes: 1k, 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k.[4]
Where the quest book puts it
The mod has one quest, a quest in "AE2 Addons", which asks you to get the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell. It sits in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the "Storage and Power" group (chapter 15 of 44 in the book). It comes after one of the chapter's untitled checkmark quests.[3]
It shares that spot with the other special storage cell quests in the chapter, such as the 1k Mana, 1k FE, Souls housing, Mob 1K and EMC cells. The quest book only covers the 1k tier, so for the higher tiers you follow the recipes below.[3]
Step 1: the cell housing
Every chemical cell starts with the ME Chemical Cell Housing. Craft this first, because every tier needs it.[4]
Crafting Shaped
| any redstone dust | ||
| any redstone dust | Empty slot | any redstone dust |
| any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot |
Recipe id: appmek:chemical_cell_housing
Step 2: the storage cell tiers
Each chemical cell is a shapeless recipe built from the housing and the AE2 storage component of the same size. That means you climb the tiers by moving up the AE2 component tiers. The recipes below are the in-pack ones, one per tier.[4]
This is the tier the quest book asks for.

This is the largest chemical cell tier in the pack's recipes.
Portable chemical cells
The portable versions cover the same five sizes, from 1k Portable Chemical Cell up to 256k Portable Chemical Cell. They are also shapeless recipes and use the housing, and the smallest and largest are shown here. The 4k, 16k and 64k versions follow the same pattern.[4]

Chemical P2P Tunnel
The Chemical P2P Tunnel is not crafted from scratch. In this pack you make it in a stonecutter from another P2P tunnel. The recipes accept the Item, Fluid, ME, Energy, Light and Redstone tunnels, plus the Mana, EU and Pattern tunnels from the addon mods. Here is the Item tunnel version.[4]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_item_p2p_tunnel_to_appmek_chemical_p2p_tunnel
Endgame use
The chemical housing also turns up in the pack's endgame. The pack has its own Extended Crafting script for LONG-tier Creative Storage Cell, and the ME Chemical Cell Housing is one of the many ingredients in that large shaped table recipe.[6]
How does Applied Mekanistics work with other mods?
4 parts
Applied Mekanistics is the bridge between AE2 and Mekanism, and it needs both to run. In this pack it also reaches into several other AE2 addons through recipes and quests, so here is where those connections show up.[1]
Chemical cells: AE2 components, Mekanism metal
Every chemical storage cell starts from the ME Chemical Cell Housing. Its recipe is the Mekanism link: it takes osmium ingots where AE2 housings would normally use iron or copper.[1][4]
Crafting Shaped
| any redstone dust | ||
| any redstone dust | Empty slot | any redstone dust |
| any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot | any osmium ingot |
Recipe id: appmek:chemical_cell_housing
The housing is then combined with a standard AE2 ME Storage Component of the matching tier. In this pack the chemical cells go from 1k up to 256k.[4]
Each tier also has a portable version, such as the 16k Portable Chemical Cell, which is crafted with an AE2 ME Chest and Energy Cell on top of the component and housing.[4]

Converting P2P tunnels
The pack lets you convert other mods' P2P tunnels to and from the Chemical P2P Tunnel in a stonecutter. These recipes use the crazyae2addons namespace, and they work in both directions.[4]
- AE2 tunnels: Item P2P Tunnel, Fluid P2P Tunnel, Energy P2P Tunnel, Light P2P Tunnel, ME P2P Tunnel and Redstone P2P Tunnel.[4]
- The mana tunnel: Mana P2P Tunnel.[4]
- The pattern tunnel: Pattern P2P Tunnel.[4]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: crazyae2addons:ae2_item_p2p_tunnel_to_appmek_chemical_p2p_tunnel
One example of the stonecutting conversions. A reverse recipe also exists.
The quest book also asks you to obtain the Pattern P2P Tunnel, in the AE2 Addons chapter: a quest in "AE2 Addons". It is the same tunnel you can convert to and from the chemical tunnel in a stonecutter.[3][4]
The LONG-tier Creative Storage Cell
The chemical housing is also one of the ingredients for the LONG-tier Creative Storage Cell. This recipe is added by the pack, not by any mod's defaults, and it is crafted in an Extended Crafting table. It draws on parts from many mods, for example Draconic Evolution's Chaotic Core, and the MEGA Chemical Cell Housing sits next to the chemical housing in it. The recipe block below shows the full layout.[4][6]
Shaped Table (extendedcrafting)

In the quest book
The quest book asks you to craft the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell in a quest in "AE2 Addons", which is in the "AE2 Addons" chapter (chapter 15 of 44, in the "Storage and Power" group). In the pack that cell is made from a 1k ME Storage Component and the chemical housing. Other storage cell quests in the same chapter ask for the mana cell (a quest in "AE2 Addons"), the FE cell (a quest in "AE2 Addons"), the souls housing (a quest in "AE2 Addons") and the mob cell (a quest in "AE2 Addons").[3][4]
Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Applied Mekanistics?
2 parts
Applied Mekanistics only shows up in one place in the quest book: the "AE2 Addons" chapter. It is chapter 15 of 44 in the book, sits in the "Storage and Power" group, and holds 43 quests in total.[3]
The Applied Mekanistics quest
There is a single quest for this mod: a quest in "AE2 Addons". It is a one-task quest that asks you to get the 1k ME Chemical Storage Cell. The book gives it no description in the data I have, so the item itself is the whole requirement.[3]
It is not a starting quest. It comes after an untitled quest in the chapter, so you unlock it by working through the chapter first.[3]
Where it sits in the chapter
The chapter opens with the "AE2 Addons" quest quest, which is just a checkmark. Several untitled checkmark quests and "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest hang off it. Those are the branches the rest of the chapter grows from.[3]
The chemical cell quest sits in the branch of storage-style quests that each follow an untitled quest. It is grouped with other cell quests from different addons:[3]
- a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the Mana storage cell from Applied Botanics.[3]
- a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the FE storage cell from Applied Flux.[3]
- a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the 1M item storage cell from MEGA Cells.[3]
- a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the EMC storage cell from ProjectCell.[3]
- a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the Mob storage cell from Crazy AE2 Addons.[3]
The other branch, which follows "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest, is about Extended AE and Extended AE Plus gear such as "ME Extended Import & Export Bus" quest and "Assembler Matrix" quest. That one has nothing to do with Applied Mekanistics.[3]
What changed in Applied Mekanistics between versions?
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships Applied Mekanistics 1.4.3. The mod has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[2]
The mod's own changelog for 1.4.3 lives on its GitHub release page, so that's the place to look for what the author changed in that version.[7]
Unverified The individual changes in Applied Mekanistics 1.4.3 are not listed in the sources for this guide, and no pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so any pack-specific changes to it across releases are unconfirmed.
