What is ExtendedAE?

2 parts

This pack includes ExtendedAE, version 1.20-1.4.20-forge. It brings back some 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 AE features for modern Applied Energistics 2, so it's an add-on that extends the AE2 network you already build rather than a separate system.[1][2]

What it adds

Where the quest book puts it

ExtendedAE has no chapter of its own. Its quests ask for its items inside the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the "Storage and Power" group, which is chapter 15 of 44 in the book. Right before it, as chapter 14 in the same group, is the "Applied Energistics 2" chapter.[7][8]

Inside "AE2 Addons", the checkmark quest "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest is the hub. It comes after the chapter's opening quest, and the ExtendedAE quests follow it: a quest in "AE2 Addons", "ME Extended Import & Export Bus" quest, a quest in "AE2 Addons", "Assembler Matrix" quest, a quest in "AE2 Addons", a quest in "AE2 Addons", a quest in "AE2 Addons" and a quest in "AE2 Addons". Some of them ask for items covered above: the Circuit Slicer, the Extended Import and Export Buses, the Assembler Matrix Frame and the Extended Inscriber. The hub also leads to quests for the Extended AE Plus add-on, such as "Assembler Matrix Upload Core" quest, which comes after the Assembler Matrix quest.[3][4][5][6][7]

The ME Infinity Cell is the exception. Two quests ask you to get it, a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2", and both sit in the "Applied Energistics 2" chapter, after the ME Item Cell Housing quest. That chapter has 72 quests, and the text of 33 of them is only in the quest book itself, so check it there.[8]

How do you get started with ExtendedAE?

6 parts

Everything ExtendedAE in this pack lives in the quest book chapter "AE2 Addons" quest, which is chapter 15 of 44 in the "Storage and Power" group. It comes right after the Applied Energistics 2 chapter, and that order fits: most ExtendedAE recipes are built from AE2 parts such as processors, buses and terminals. So get a basic ME network running first, then work through the ExtendedAE quests, which unlock from "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest.[7][8][9]

First: Circuit Slicer

Start with the Circuit Slicer. It slices material blocks straight into processor prints, which makes it up to 9x faster than an Inscriber most of the time. Its quest is a quest in "AE2 Addons". Note that glass faces without ports can't connect to the network.[3][7]

Second: Extended Pattern Access Terminal

Next, grab the ME Extended Pattern Access Terminal (quest a quest in "AE2 Addons"). It lets you search patterns by input or output ingredient name, highlights the matching pattern in the GUI, and highlights a Pattern Provider in the world so you can find the one that's stuck during big crafting jobs.[7][10]

Third: Extended Import and Export Bus

The ME Extended Import Bus and ME Extended Export Bus work faster than the normal buses and have more upgrade slots. The speed multiplier is set by exBusMultiplier, which is 8 in this pack. Both are covered by the quest "ME Extended Import & Export Bus" quest.[5][7][11]

Fifth: Assembler Matrix

The Assembler Matrix (quest "Assembler Matrix" quest) is the big step up for autocrafting. It is a multiblock that runs many crafting jobs at once and saves channels. Each pattern core gives 36 pattern slots and each craft core runs 8 jobs at a time. A valid matrix needs at least one of each and must be completely filled, with no hollow interior.[6][7]

The pack changed the recipe for the Assembler Matrix Frame, so go by the recipe below. The Assembler Matrix Craft Core needs an Extended Molecular Assembler as an ingredient, and the pack also has a Matter Fabrication recipe for that assembler.[9]

Watch out: The in-game guide says the matrix edges can be between 3 and 7 long, but this pack sets the max size to 6 in device.assembler_matrix_max_size. Plan your build around that value.[6][11]

Later: wireless

Once your core setup is stable, the ME Wireless Connector and ME Wireless Hub share the quest a quest in "AE2 Addons". The pack has a Matter Fabrication recipe for the connector, and the Wireless Hub needs a connector as an ingredient. The max range between two connectors is set by range.[7][9][11]

How does ExtendedAE work?

7 parts

ExtendedAE brings back some older AE features for modern AE. This section covers how its machines, its one big multiblock, its buses and its wireless links behave in this pack.[2]

The Assembler Matrix

The Assembler Matrix is the mod's multiblock. It runs lots of crafting jobs at once and saves you channels. It is a solid rectangular prism: Assembler Matrix Frame on the edges, Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass on the faces, and cores filling the whole interior. It can't be hollow, and it needs at least one pattern core and one craft core.[6]

When it is formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue. That is your quick check that the structure is valid.[6]

The in-game guide says edge lengths run from 3 to 7. This pack's config sets the matrix max size to 6 with device.assembler_matrix_max_size, so plan around 6.[6][11]

  • Pattern Core: the matrix only takes patterns from its pattern cores, and each one gives 36 pattern slots.[6]
  • Craft Core: the matrix hands crafting jobs to its craft cores, and each one runs 8 jobs at the same time.[6]
  • Speed Core: 5 speed cores let the matrix run at full speed.[6]
Tip: 5 speed cores give the matrix full speed. Installing more than 5 gives no extra boost, so don't waste interior space on them.[6]

The frame recipe is changed by this pack, so check the recipe below rather than relying on what you remember from the mod.[9]

Matter Fabrication (molecularmanipulator)

Recipe id: molecularmanipulator:fabrication/research_materials/extendedae/assembler_matrix_crafter

A matter fabrication recipe also makes the Craft Core.

Right-click a formed, online matrix to open its GUI. You can put patterns in, search them, and see how many jobs it is running. There is also a button to stop all crafting jobs and return the ingredients, and the pattern slots only accept crafting patterns.[6][13]

Crafting and processing machines

The Extended Molecular Assembler runs 8 crafting jobs at the same time and is 2x faster than the normal one. The catch is that you can't put patterns in it directly.[14]

The Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints, making it up to 9x faster than an Inscriber most of the time. Its glass faces without ports can't connect to the network.[3]

The Extended Inscriber runs 4 inscribing jobs at once. It has a button to change the max stack size of its inventory like the normal one, and the guide suggests setting the stack size to 1 when you automate it to avoid possible issues. The Extended Charger charges 4 items at the same time.[4][15]

The Crystal Fixer repairs and upgrades a budding Certus block, but it can't turn a flawed one into a flawless one. Flawed is the highest tier it reaches. It needs power to work.[16]

The ME Caner

The ME Caner fills containers. The first slot is what to fill with and the second is what should be filled. Every operation costs 80 AE. By default it only fills fluids, and you need an addon to fill other resources: Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics or Applied Botanics Addon.[17]

Only its top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. For autocrafting, the pattern must contain only the resource to fill with and the container to be filled, and the Caner ejects the finished item by itself. Switch it to Empty mode and swap the pattern's inputs and outputs to drain containers instead.[17]

Moving items: buses and storage filters

The Extended Import and Export Buses are faster than the normal ones and have more upgrade slots. The speed multiplier is set by exBusMultiplier, and this pack uses 8. The Extended IO Port is 8x faster than the normal one and also has more upgrade slots.[5][11][18]

  • Precise Export Bus: exports a set quantity and only acts when the target can accept the whole output. Exact mode always exports exactly the configured amount per operation, so add acceleration cards for large quantities. Batch mode attempts the configured amount X times per operation.[19]
  • Threshold Export Bus: works only when the stored amount in the network is above or below a threshold. With copper set to 128, Above mode exports when more than 128 are stored, and Below mode exports when fewer than 128 are stored.[20]
  • Threshold Level Emitter: behaves like a reset-set latch. With a lower threshold of 100 and an upper of 150, it turns on past 150, keeps its signal while the count falls back toward 100, and turns off below 100.[21]
  • Mod Export Bus and Mod Storage Bus: filter by mod name or mod ID, with commas to separate several mods.[22][23]
  • Precise Storage Bus: set an amount limit and it only inserts items up to that limit.[24]
  • Tag Export Bus and Tag Storage Bus: filter by item or fluid tags. The storage bus supports basic logic, for example forge:ingots/* | forge:gems/* accepts all ingots and gems. In the GUI, & is AND, | is OR, ^ is XOR, brackets set priority and * is a wildcard.[13][25][26]

The ME Active Formation Plane actively places blocks or drops items. It needs no subnet, and it works like an export bus that places blocks instead of outputting to a chest.[27]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: expatternprovider:active_formation_plane

Interfaces, providers and storage

The ME Extended Interface is an interface with a larger config inventory, and the Extended Pattern Provider is a provider with a larger pattern inventory. The ME Extended Drive holds 20 storage cells. The ME Extended Pattern Access Terminal adds pattern search by input or output ingredient name, pattern highlighting in the GUI, and in-world highlighting of the Pattern Provider you are looking for, which is handy when a big job gets stuck.[10][28][29][30]

The ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface but holds more per slot. The multiplier is set by device.oversize_interface_multiplier, and this pack uses 16, which means 1,024 items per slot (64x16). Specific resource types can get their own multiplier through device.custom_oversize_interface_multiplier, and this pack sets Botania mana to 2 and Applied Flux flux to 4.[11][31]

The ME Ingredient Buffer is a storage block that holds 36 types of contents, items and fluids included.[12]

The ME Infinity Cell holds 2.1 billion items or fluids and gives you infinite extraction of its contents. Which resources it can be made for is set by types. This pack's list includes water, cobblestone, lava, sand, gravel and netherrack, among others. Its idle energy cost is cost, set to 8 AE/t here.[11][32]

The ME Wireless Connector links two networks one-to-one, with limited range and no cross-dimensional support. Click the two connectors with the ME Wireless Setup Kit to link them, and sneak + click to clear the kit's current setting. The connector changes texture once a link is made. Connectors can be colored like cables and only connect to cables or connectors of the same color.[33]

Maximum distance is range, set to 1,000 in this pack. Power use rises with distance on a curve that isn't linear, so it gets very expensive when they are far apart. Each card installed reduces the energy cost by 10%. The pack's device.wireless_connector_power_multiplier is 1.[11][33]

The ME Wireless Hub works like a connector but links up to 8 hubs or connectors, using 8 ports. It picks a free port automatically, and when all are used you must disconnect one with the X button first.[34]

The ME Wireless Advanced Setup Kit works like the basic kit but adds a queue: add connections to it, then switch to use mode to apply them. The queue limit is device.max_queue_size, set to 10 here.[11][35]

Upgrading and moving devices

Device upgrade items turn normal ME devices into their extended versions without breaking them. Sneak + right-click the device with the matching upgrade and all settings and inventory are kept. There are upgrades for pattern providers, interfaces, import/export buses, pattern access terminals and drives.[36]

ME Packing Tape packs an in-world ME device into a Packaged Device item when you sneak + right-click it, keeping all settings and inventory. Right-click with the package as if it were the device to restore it. Only devices on the whitelist work, and in this pack that is set in whitelist: the extended interfaces, pattern providers and drive, plus the normal AE2 interface, pattern provider and drive, including their cable versions.[11][37]

How do you progress through ExtendedAE?

7 parts

In this pack, ExtendedAE does not get its own quest chapter. Its quests sit in the "AE2 Addons" chapter (group "Storage and Power", chapter 15 of 44), right after the "Applied Energistics 2" chapter (chapter 14 of 44). Inside the addons chapter, the checkmark quest "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest is the hub, and the Extended AE quests hang off it.[7][8]

That chapter also holds quests for other AE2 add-ons, such as the Extended AE Plus items and the Advanced AE quantum items. This page only covers items from this mod.[7]

Tier 0: the AE2 groundwork

Before any Extended quest, work through the AE2 chapter. It starts with "Welcome to Applied Energistics 2 !" quest, then goes through "Processors" quest (the inscriber and the logic, calculation and engineering processors), the ME Terminal, ME Drive, Crafting Unit, Pattern Providers and "Molecular Assembler" quest. The Extended recipes in the pack lean on those processors and on base AE2 devices, so this groundwork comes first.[8][9]

Tier 1: Extended devices

Once you reach the Extended hub quest, these quests all follow it directly:[7]

If you already have AE2 devices placed, you don't have to rebuild them. The upgrade items (Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade and Drive Upgrade) turn a normal device into its extended version when you sneak and right-click it. All settings and inventory are kept.[36]

Tier 2: the Assembler Matrix

The "Assembler Matrix" quest quest follows the Extended hub and starts with the Assembler Matrix Frame. "Assembler Matrix Upload Core" quest comes after both this quest and the hub, but it asks for an Extended AE Plus item rather than one from this mod.[7]

The matrix is a multiblock shaped like a rectangular prism, with edge lengths between 3 and 7. Frames form the edges and walls or glass form the faces. The inside is filled with pattern, craft and speed cores. Each pattern core gives 36 pattern slots, each craft core runs 8 crafting jobs at once, and 5 speed cores give full speed (more than 5 add nothing).[6]

Watch out: A valid matrix needs at least one pattern core and one craft core, and it must be completely filled, not hollow. When it is formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue.[6]

The pack changed the frame's recipe, so don't rely on the mod default here. Its Matter Fabrication version is listed as changed by the pack as well.[9]

a quest in "AE2 Addons" also follows the Extended hub and asks for both the ME Wireless Hub and the ME Wireless Connector. Endgame uses

The AE2 chapter has two quests for the ME Infinity Cell, a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2". Both come after the ME Item Cell Housing quest.[8]

Several pack recipes for other mods also use this mod's items. The Extended Crafting Compressor recipe uses the Extended Inscriber. The Blood Magic addon's Blood Altar Assembler recipes use the Extended Molecular Assembler. The Creative Compressed Iron Block is a tier 4 Extended Crafting table recipe that takes two Infinity Cells, one set to lava and one to water.[38][39][40]

Utility extra

The Crystal Fixer can repair a budding Certus block and upgrade it, but the best it can reach is flawed. It needs power to work.[16]

How does ExtendedAE work with other mods?

6 parts

ExtendedAE shows up in a lot of recipes from other mods in this pack, from AE2 processors to Blood Magic machines. In the quest book, the ExtendedAE quests sit in the AE2 Addons chapter (group Storage and Power). The hub is "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest, and the quests for the Circuit Slicer, the Extended Import & Export Bus, the Oversize Interface, the Ingredient Buffer, the Wireless Connector (which asks for the ME Wireless Hub and the ME Wireless Connector), the Extended Pattern Access Terminal, the Extended Inscriber and the Assembler Matrix all come after it.[7][9]

Silicon blocks and AE2 processors

The pack adds reaction recipes that make processors from Block of Silicon. They cover the AE2 Engineering, Logic and Calculation processors, plus the Quantum Processor, Accumulation Processor, Energy Processor, Complex Link Processor and Multidimensional Expansion Processor from other addons. Every one of them takes 4 Blocks of Silicon.[9]

Molecular Manipulator

Some of the core ExtendedAE blocks have matter fabrication recipes from the Molecular Manipulator mod, listed under research materials for ExtendedAE. That covers the Extended Molecular Assembler, the ME Extended Pattern Provider, the Assembler Matrix Craft Core and the Assembler Matrix Pattern Core.[9]

It also works the other way round. Sequence Array parts such as the Sequence Array Quantum Crystal, Sequence Array Controller and Sequence Rewrite Core have recipes that use ExtendedAE items. The pack changed the recipe for Sequence Array Casing. The sequence array research recipe asks for large amounts of ExtendedAE parts. In the quest book, a quest in "AE2 Addons" and a quest in "AE2 Addons" both come after a quest in "AE2 Addons".[7][9]

The Tag Inventory ME Interface uses the ME Tag Export Bus. For the quest order, "Assembler Matrix Upload Core" quest comes after both "Assembler Matrix" quest and the Extended AE Plus hub quest.[7][9]

ProjectE transmutation

The pack changed the recipes for the ME Extended Transmutation Import Bus and ME Extended Transmutation Export Bus. Each one needs the matching ME Transmutation bus, an Acceleration Card and Red Matter. The Transmutation Import/Export Bus Upgrade and Transmutation Interface Upgrade also use Red Matter, and the pack changed those too.[9]

Endgame machines

The Blood Assembler needs an Extended Molecular Assembler along with Blood Magic parts. The pack added two recipes for it. One uses an Elite Fluid Tank holding 128,000 of life essence, and the other uses a Fluid Tank Token set to the elite tank level.[9][39]

The version that uses the Mekanism Elite Fluid Tank.

The pack changed the Quantum Compressor recipe so it needs an Extended Inscriber among its ingredients.[9]

The pack's Creative Compressed Iron Block recipe uses 2 ME Infinity Cell items. The script sets one to lava and the other to water.[9][40]

Wireless terminals

The pack changed three recipes that combine the Wireless Extended Pattern Access Terminal with other wireless terminals. All three are shown below.[9]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use ExtendedAE?

2 parts

In this pack's quest book, the quests that ask for ExtendedAE items sit in the "AE2 Addons" chapter, in the group "Storage and Power". The "Applied Energistics 2" chapter in the same group has two more quests that ask for an ExtendedAE item.[7][8]

The AE2 Addons chapter

The chapter starts with "AE2 Addons" quest, a checkmark quest. Several more checkmark quests are listed after it, including "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest. The quests below are all listed as coming after that one.[7]

"Assembler Matrix Upload Core" quest is listed after both the Assembler Matrix quest and the hub quest.[7]

The Applied Energistics 2 chapter

Two quests in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter, a quest in "Applied Energistics 2" and a quest in "Applied Energistics 2", both ask for the ME Infinity Cell. The book lists both after a quest in "Applied Energistics 2".[8]

In the book, that housing quest is listed after a quest in "Applied Energistics 2", which is listed after "ME Drive" quest. So the Infinity Cell quests sit in the storage cell line of that chapter, not under the ExtendedAE hub.[8]

Which ExtendedAE config options matter?

5 parts

Everything here lives in one file, config/expatternprovider-common.toml. The sources show the values this pack uses but not the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these the pack changed. What you see below is what you get in this pack.[11]
