What is AdvancedAE?

2 parts

This pack includes AdvancedAE 1.3.6 for Minecraft 1.20.1. It's an AE2 addon that focuses on convenience and quality of life when you handle your ME System.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Advanced pattern providers: with the Advanced Pattern Encoder you pick which face each input of a Processing Pattern is sent to, so you don't need multiple pipes for machines that want specific sides.[2][3]
  • Quantum Computer: a special crafting unit that can run an unlimited number of crafting tasks as long as it has crafting storage, and all those tasks share the co-processors in the multiblock. The Quantum Computer Core works alone as a crafting unit with 256M storage and 8 co-processors.[2][4]
  • Quantum Crafter: an auto crafter that can run a series of crafting operations every tick while reading the ME System's inventory directly.[2]
  • Quantum armor: pieces such as the Quantum Helmet connect to the ME System and offer flight with no inertia, night vision, a magnet and auto feeding straight from ME Storage.[2][5]
  • Reaction Chamber: a power-hungry machine used to make various items you need to progress in AdvancedAE.[2]
  • Utility parts: the ME Stock Export Bus keeps an exact amount of items in the target inventory, and the ME Throughput Monitor tracks items, fluids and FE energy on your system.[2][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book puts AdvancedAE in the chapter "AE2 Addons", which is in the group "Storage and Power". The chapter starts with a checkmark quest named "AE2 Addons", and it's shared with other AE2 addons such as Extended AE.[2][4]

The AdvancedAE quests each come after an untitled checkmark quest, and none of them leads on to another quest. These are the ones you'll see:[4]

How do you get started with AdvancedAE?

5 parts

Advanced AE is an AE2 addon that adds multiblock quantum computers, pattern providers that push items to specific sides of a machine, and a pile of quality of life blocks. Here is the order I would make things in, and why.[2][8]

Start with the Reaction Chamber

Make the Reaction Chamber first. It is used to create various items you need to progress in this mod, and it uses a ton of power, so plan your energy supply before you rely on it. In this pack its recipe was added by the pack, uses a table recipe from Extended Crafting, and asks for ingredients from many different mods.[2][9]

Then Shattered Singularity

Your first Reaction Chamber job is Shattered Singularity. The mod describes it as having several applications in quantum computing. In this pack it goes into the Inscriber Quantum Press, the accelerator and the quantum alloy, so you will use plenty of it.[9][10]

Reaction (advanced_ae)

Recipe id: advanced_ae:shatteredsingularity

Quantum Processors and Alloy

The Quantum Processor is the part you will see most often: the accelerator, the Advanced IO Bus, the Quantum Crafter Terminal and the Quantum Boots all use it.[9]

Inscriber (ae2)

Recipe id: advanced_ae:quantum_processor

The pack changed how Printed Quantum Circuit is made: it now comes from a circuit cutter, and the quest book has a Circuit Slicer quest for that machine (a quest in "AE2 Addons"). The pack also added a Reaction Chamber recipe that makes the processor from blocks.[4][9]

Quantum Alloy is another Reaction Chamber product. The pack added a second Reaction Chamber recipe for it that asks for much bigger amounts than the standard one.[9]

Build the Quantum Computer

Now you can build a crafting computer. The Quantum Computer Core works on its own with 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has storage. Each Quantum Computer Accelerator adds co-processors that every job shares, and in this pack each one gives 8 threads. As a multiblock, the maximum size is 7 per side, set by [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]].[11][12]

The pack also has Molecular Manipulator matter fabrication recipes for the Quantum Crafting Unit and for the accelerator, and the accelerator keeps its normal crafting recipe too.[9]

Matter Fabrication (molecularmanipulator)

Recipe id: molecularmanipulator:fabrication/research_materials/advanced_ae/quantum_unit

Matter fabrication route for the crafting unit.

Later you can add one Quantum Data Entangler and one Quantum Computer Multi-Threader, each multiplying by 4 in this pack. The quest book covers this in the Quantum Computer quest ("Quantum Computer" quest), in the AE2 Addons chapter of the Storage and Power group (chapter 15 of 44).[4][11][12]

Advanced pattern tools

If you automate machines that care about which side items enter from, make the Advanced Pattern Encoder. You put an encoded processing pattern into it and choose a face for each ingredient. Only an advanced provider reads those faces. The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider recipe was changed by the pack.[3][9][13]

Tip: You can upgrade pattern providers you already have instead of rebuilding them. The capacity upgrade turns a regular provider straight into an advanced one with 36 pattern slots. The quest for the encoder and the Advanced Pattern Provider is a quest in "AE2 Addons".[4][14]

How does AdvancedAE work?

8 parts

AdvancedAE adds some big systems on top of AE2: pattern providers that push items into specific sides of a machine, a multiblock crafting computer whose tasks all share the same co-processors, and a power-hungry Reaction Chamber that makes many of the mod's key materials. This section covers how each one works in this pack.[8][11][15]

The Quantum Computer

The quantum computer is a special crafting computer. It can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has enough crafting storage. Every concurrent task shares all the co-processors in the multiblock, and the whole thing uses a single channel.[2][11]

  • Quantum Computer Core: on its own it gives 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads. It is the only block that can form a quantum computer. Used standalone, it needs power through its Up or Down sides, where the connectors are.[11]
  • Quantum storage blocks (128M and 256M, for example 256M Quantum Computer Storage): these add crafting storage, which raises how many tasks can run at once.[11]
  • Quantum Computer Accelerator: each one adds co-processor threads, and in this pack that is 8 per accelerator ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]]). Since every pattern shares them, it pays to build plenty.[11][12]
  • Quantum Data Entangler: it multiplies the storage of the whole multiblock. Here the multiplier is 4 ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerDataEntanglerMultiplication]]) and you can place at most 1 per computer ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputermaxDataEntanglers]]).[11][12]
  • Quantum Computer Multi-Threader: it multiplies the co-processing power of the accelerators. The multiplier is 4 ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMultiThreaderMultiplication]]) and the limit is 1 per computer ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxMultiThreaders]]).[11][12]
  • Quantum Computer Structural Glass: this is the framing block that connects everything, and it goes on the outside layer of the multiblock.[10][11]

Building the multiblock

  • The maximum external size is 7x7x7 in this pack ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]]).[11][12]
  • No empty spaces are allowed inside. Gaps can be filled with a block that gives no additional benefit.[11]
  • You need the core, plus at most one Data Entangler and at most one Multi-Threader.[11]
  • Every block on the outside layer must be structural glass.[10][11]
Watch out: The mod's project page talks about a 5x5x5 multiblock, but this pack's config sets the maximum to 7. Trust the pack's value, and remember that item tooltips show the limits for your instance.[2][11][12]

In this pack the Data Entangler and the Accelerator each have a fabrication recipe of their own, shown here.[9]

Advanced pattern providers and directional output

Advanced Extended Pattern Provider lets you choose which face of the target machine each individual ingredient is pushed into. That means machines that want specific inputs on specific sides can be automated with one block and no pipes.[13]

  1. Encode a normal processing pattern.[13]
  2. Right-click with the Advanced Pattern Encoder to open it and put the pattern in the left slot. Every raw ingredient is listed in a row.[3]
  3. On each row, pick a face. The "A" button sends the item to whatever face is directly connected to the provider, while a specific face forces insertion there.[3][10]
  4. Take out the advanced pattern and use it in an advanced pattern provider.[13]
Watch out: Advanced patterns only decode properly in an advanced provider; in other providers they act like normal patterns. If even one item can't be inserted into its chosen face, nothing is inserted directionally and the standard provider behaviour takes over.[3]

The extended version holds up to 36 patterns. Two upgrade items convert existing providers without moving your patterns. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular and ExtendedAE providers and keeps the same slot count, while the Capacity Upgrade turns a regular provider straight into an advanced one with 36 pattern slots. The pack has its own crafting recipes for both upgrade items.[13][14][16]

Import and export buses

  • ME Import Export Bus: the filter sets what gets exported, and anything not on the filter is a valid stack to import.[7]
  • ME Stock Export Bus: exports an exact amount of the filtered stacks. It tracks what is already in the target inventory and won't insert above that number. Drag an item into the filter and middle click to set the amount. It will not pull extra items or fluids back out if the amount goes over.[10][17]
  • ME Advanced IO Bus: combines the functions of both. Import and export operations are counted separately, so the bus will not get stuck doing one or the other. With regulate on, it first imports anything above the set amount, then imports what isn't filtered. It ramps up in speed over time.[6][10]

Quantum Crafter

The Quantum Crafter is an auto-crafter that works straight from your ME inventory. It needs a single channel and supports fluid substitution and recursive crafts, where an input is also an output. Encode the recipes you want into crafting patterns and insert them into the crafter.[18]

  • Each pattern has an enable/disable button and a cog that opens the Pattern Configuration screen.[18]
  • In that screen you set how much of each ingredient to keep in the ME system at all times, and a maximum amount of the end product. Type the number (math expressions work) and press enter. An output limit of 0 removes the limit.[10][18]
  • By default, crafted items go to the ME system. The cell button on the left toolbar switches output to adjacent inventories, and another button picks which sides are allowed for auto-export.[18]
  • It takes two kinds of upgrade cards: one greatly speeds it up, reaching 64 crafts of each pattern per tick, and the other adds redstone control.[18]

The Quantum Crafter Terminal lets you manage all your crafters from one spot, and a wireless version exists for changing settings on the go.[19]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: advanced_ae:quantum_crafter_terminal

Reaction Chamber

The Reaction Chamber speeds up reactions using a catalyst fluid and a lot of power. Acceleration Cards raise the power needed per tick. If the grid can't supply a full tick of power, you may see flickering and an insufficient power warning on its screen, so give your network energy buffers or use fewer acceleration cards. In this pack the chamber is crafted in an Extended Crafting table.[10][15][16]

  • Full block pattern provider: connects the chamber directly to the AE2 grid so it can draw power when needed. Part-form providers and interfaces don't give a grid connection, so you would need a fluix cable straight to the chamber.[15]
  • External power: any source that can push energy will fill its buffers. A warning shows if power arrives too slowly.[15]
  • Induction Cards (needs Applied Flux): they export energy from Energy Cells through cable part or directional pattern providers. They ramp up slowly, so crafting starts below full speed.[15]

The pack leans on the chamber for a lot of progression materials. A few of its own recipes show the scale: Quantum Alloy costs 200,000 energy plus 1,600 units of Quantum Infusion and makes 16, a bulk Shattered Singularity batch costs 200,000 energy plus 3,200 units of lava and makes 64, and a Quantum Processor batch costs 50,000 energy plus 1,000 units of water and makes 36.[20]

The mod's own, smaller Shattered Singularity reaction is also available.[9]

Reaction (advanced_ae)

Recipe id: advanced_ae:shatteredsingularity

Throughput Monitor

The ME Throughput Monitor tracks one item or fluid and shows its change per second. It does not need a channel. Right-click with an item (or double-right-click with a fluid container) to set it, right-click with an empty hand to clear it, and shift-right-click with an empty hand to lock it. The Throughput Monitor Configurator cycles between items per tick, per second and per minute.[21]

For the per minute and per 10 minutes modes, the pack sets the cache size to 80 (Miscellaneous.throughputMonitorCacheSize). Higher values are more precise but react more slowly.[12]

Quantum Armor

The quantum armor is an energy-powered set that can link to your AE2 system. Pieces are linked by inserting them into the appropriate slots, and some perks only work while you are in range of the access point. Wear the pieces and press the hotkey (N by default) to open the configuration menu, where you add upgrade cards and toggle or tune them.[5]

The pack sets these limits in the mod's common config:[12]

  • Evasion chance of 30 ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorEvasionChance]]).[12]
  • HP buffer of 20 ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorHpBuffer]]).[12]
  • Magnet range of 12 ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMagnetRange]]).[12]
  • Damage absorption of 30 percent, still limited by the energy buffer in the equipment ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorPercentageDamageAbsorption]]).[12]
  • Sprint speed of 80, which is divided by 10 before use ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxSprintSpeed]]).[12]

How do you progress through AdvancedAE?

5 parts

In this pack, AdvancedAE lives in the quest chapter "AE2 Addons", in the group "Storage and Power" (chapter 15 of 44 in the book, with 43 quests). Its quests follow an untitled quest in that chapter, not the Extended AE branch. They cover the pattern tools, the IO buses, the throughput monitor, the Quantum Crafter, the Quantum Computer and the Quantum armor. Below is the order I'd follow.[4]

Stage 1: Pattern tools

The quest a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for the Advanced Pattern Encoder and the Advanced Pattern Provider. With these you can choose which block face each ingredient of a pattern gets pushed into. That means one block can feed a machine that wants different inputs on different sides, with no pipes. Advanced patterns only decode properly in an advanced provider. In any other provider they act like normal patterns.[3][4][13]

If you already have providers set up, the pack also has Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade and Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade. The first upgrades a regular or Extended provider and keeps its slot count. The second upgrades a regular provider straight to an advanced one with 36 slots.[14][16]

Stage 2: Buses and monitoring

The quest a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for three buses: the ME Stock Export Bus, the ME Import Export Bus and the ME Advanced IO Bus. The Advanced IO Bus has a base speed 8 times higher than the base speed of the bus it is built from. It starts slowly and ramps up, so give it upgrades.[4][6]

Stage 4: Quantum Computer and Crafter

The quest "Quantum Computer" quest asks for the Quantum Computer Core, the Quantum Computer Structural Glass, the Quantum Data Entangler, the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader and the Quantum Computer Accelerator. The mod describes this as a multiblock computer that can run an unlimited number of crafts while it has crafting storage left. The crafting chain runs accelerator, then core, then data entangler.[4][8][9]

The accelerator and the data entangler also have Matter Fabrication recipes, and the same chapter has a quest in "AE2 Addons", which asks for the Matter Fabrication multiblock parts.[4][9]

Stage 5: Quantum armor and cards

The quest a quest in "AE2 Addons" asks for all four pieces: Quantum Helmet, Quantum Chestplate, Quantum Leggings and Quantum Boots. By default the suit is energy powered, with defenses comparable to Netherite gear. Link each piece to your ME network, then stay in range of the access point so the extra features work. Open the configuration menu with the hotkey (N by default) to install and toggle upgrade cards.[4][5]

The Quantum Upgrade Base Card is a crafting ingredient for all upgrade cards. The pack treats the cards differently:[5][9]

How does AdvancedAE work with other mods?

6 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon, and in this pack its recipes lean heavily on AE2 and on a long list of other mods. Here is where those links show up in the in-pack recipes and quests.[2][9]

Built on AE2 parts

The processor line plugs straight into the AE2 Inscriber. The Quantum Processor is pressed in an Inscriber, and the Inscriber Quantum Press is also made there from AE2's existing presses and a Shattered Singularity.[9]

In the quest book

AdvancedAE's quests sit in the chapter AE2 Addons, in the group Storage and Power (chapter 15 of 44). It shares that chapter with ExtendedAE, ExtendedAE Plus and other AE2 addons. The quests for the Quantum Computer, Quantum Crafter, ME Advanced IO Bus, Advanced Pattern Encoder, ME Throughput Monitor and Quantum Boots all follow an untitled quest in that chapter.[4]

The Molecular Manipulator link has its own quest path. a quest in "AE2 Addons" comes first, and a quest in "AE2 Addons" follows it.[4]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use AdvancedAE?

2 parts

All of this mod's quests sit in one chapter of the quest book: "AE2 Addons", in the "Storage and Power" group. It is chapter 15 of 44 and holds 43 quests. It isn't only about this mod, because it also covers other AE2 add-ons such as Extended AE, storage cells and the Molecular Manipulator.[4]

How the chapter is laid out

The chapter opens with "AE2 Addons" quest, a simple checkmark quest. Several untitled checkmark quests hang off it, and so does "Extended AE + Extended AE Plus" quest. Each of this mod's quests comes after an untitled quest in the chapter, not after the Extended AE branch.[4]

The quests for this mod

None of these quests lists another one of them as a prerequisite, so the book doesn't force an order between them. Here is what each one asks for.[4]

Tip: Since these quests don't depend on each other, you can take them in whatever order suits your base.[4]

Which AdvancedAE config options matter?

3 parts

AdvancedAE has two common config sections you will most likely touch: the Quantum Computer and the Quantum Armor cards. Everything below is what this pack's config files actually contain, so these are the values you get in your world.[12]

Quantum Computer sizing

  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]] is 7 in this pack (allowed range 5 to 12). The mod's project page describes the multiblock scaling up to 5x5x5, so go by the config value of 7 for this pack.[2][12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]] is 8 threads per Quantum Computer Accelerator (range 4 to 16).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputermaxDataEntanglers]] is 1 and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxMultiThreaders]] is 1. Both have a range of 1 to 2, so you get one of each per multiblock here.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerDataEntanglerMultiplication]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMultiThreaderMultiplication]] are both 4 (range 2 to 8). That matches the project page, which says the Data Entangler and Multi-Threader multiply storage and co-processors by 4.[2][12]

Quantum Armor card values

Each Quantum Armor card has its own number in the common config. Here is how this pack sets the movement ones. Walk, sprint and swim speed are divided by 10 before use, so the raw numbers look bigger than the effect.[12]

  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxWalkSpeed]] is 60 (range 10 to 100).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxSprintSpeed]] is 80 (range 10 to 150).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorSwimSpeedBoost]] is 80 (range 10 to 150).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxFlightSpeed]] is 10 (range 1 to 15).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxJumpHeight]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxStepHeight]] are both 3 (range 1 to 5).[12]

The combat and utility cards are set like this:[12]

  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorPercentageDamageAbsorption]] is 30 (range 5 to 100). It is the maximum percentage of incoming damage absorbed, and it is still limited by the energy buffer in the equipment.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorEvasionChance]] is 30 percent (range 0 to 100).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorHpBuffer]] is 20 (range 5 to 50) and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorStrengthBoost]] is 10 (range 5 to 50).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorAttackSpeedBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 10) and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxReachBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 8).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMagnetRange]] is 12 (range 5 to 15) and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorLuckBoost]] is 2 (range 1 to 5).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorRenegerationPerTick]] is 10 (range 1 to 20). The value is divided by 10 before use.[12]

Other options

  • Miscellaneous.throughputMonitorCacheSize is 80 (range 40 to 400). It only affects the "Per minute" and "Per 10 minutes" modes of the Throughput Monitor. Higher values give more precision but make the monitor react more slowly to changes.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-client.toml#reaction chamber.enableEffects]] is true. It toggles the Reaction Chamber's item rendering, and turning it off saves performance if you run a lot of chambers at once. It is a client-side option, so it is set in the client config file.[24]

Unverified The sources do not show the mod's default values, so it is unconfirmed which of the numbers above the pack changed from default.

What changed in AdvancedAE between versions?

1 part

Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships AdvancedAE 1.3.6-1.20.1. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so every fix below is already in your install.[1]

Recent fixes in the mod's own changelogs

These are the mod's own release notes, newest first. They are all bug fixes, with no new features listed.[25][26][27][28]

  • 1.3.6: fixed the curio slot texture.[25]
  • 1.3.5: fixed a crash that happened when changing quantum armor colors on a dedicated server.[26]
  • 1.3.4: fixed the quantum crafter using its output space as an intermediate step before pushing to ME Storage. This fixes some item voiding in high output setups.[27]
  • 1.3.3: fixed the wireless quantum crafter terminal screen not opening, and added a null-check to avoid crashes caused by null possibleInputs.[28]
Tip: If you run a high output setup with the quantum crafter and ever lost items in an older build, the 1.3.4 fix targets exactly that, and the pack's version already includes it.[1][27]
