What is Apothic-Enchanting?
2 parts
Apothic-Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis, and it completely overhauls how enchanting works. The pack ships version 1.6.2. The Enchanting Table now reaches level 100, and the max levels of most enchantments are raised automatically. If you enjoy planning a build instead of just spamming bookshelves, this mod is for you.[1][2]
What it adds
- Enchanting stats: bookshelves now provide Eterna (strength and level cost), Quanta (randomness) and Arcana (more enchantments, and rarer ones). There are also secondary stats such as Enchanting Clues, Quantic Stability, Allowing Treasure and Enchantment Filters.[1]
- Many new shelves. Each one must sit in one of the 32 valid bookshelf positions around the table, with air between it and the table, to count.[1]
- Nine tomes that only accept enchantments for one kind of item, plus the Tome of Scrapping, Tome of Superior Scrapping and Tome of Extraction for pulling enchantments off gear. Only the Tome of Extraction leaves the original item intact.[1]
- Experience costs that deduct the true amount of XP, so you no longer need to micromanage your levels.[1]
- The Enchantment Library, which stores enchanted books as points and lets you pull out exactly the enchantment you want.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The mod is spread across the quest book. In the gearing up chapter, you start with the Enchantment Library in a quest in "Gearing Up", the basic shelves in "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest and the tomes in a quest in "Gearing Up". A Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability has its own quest, a quest in "Gearing Up".[3]
After that the chain climbs through the shelf tiers. "Upgraded Shelves" quest asks for a Hellshelf, a Seashelf and an Spirit Attuned Crystal. Next come the infused versions in "Infused Shelves" quest, then the Blazing/Glowing Hellshelf and Crystalline/Heart-Forged Seashelf in a quest in "Gearing Up". The deepshelves follow in "Shelves of the Deep" quest.[3]
The endgame of the chain starts with Infused Dragon's Breath in "Achieving Enlightenment" quest, then the Endshelf in "Endshelf" quest. It finishes with the Enchanting Table of the Raven in "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest and the Library of Alexandria in "Library of Alexandria" quest. A separate quest, "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest in the creative chapter, also asks for Infused Dragon's Breath.[3][4]
The World Engine tier 2 chapter also touches the mod. "Infusing The Magic" quest wants an enchanting table with a Hellshelf or Seashelf and an infused or upgraded shelf. Two further quests, "Magics of The Deep" quest and "Auto-Build The Enchanting Upgrade" quest, ask for a Deepshelf and an Echoing Deepshelf.[5]
Unverified The sources don't show whether the pack changes any of the mod's default stats or recipes, so check the in-game tooltips and the recipe blocks in this guide for the pack's actual values. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Apothic-Enchanting?
5 parts
Apothic Enchanting turns the enchanting table into a stat-driven system, so your first job is to build a good ring of shelves around a table. Here is the order I'd go in, following the pack's quest chain.[1][3]
Step one: get an enchanting table
The Apothic Enchanting Table is only a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table. The Tier 2 quest "Infusing The Magic" quest asks for the vanilla table, so you don't need this one for progression. The pack changed its recipe, so use the version below.[5][6][7]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
Step two: learn how shelves work
Bookshelves give the table its stats: Eterna (enchanting strength and level cost), Quanta (randomness) and Arcana (more enchantments, and more rare ones). There are 32 valid shelf spots: the ring around the table, corners included, on the table's level and the level above.[1]
The Basic Bookshelf is a good first shelf to craft. In the quest book, "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest asks for the Stoneshelf, Beeshelf and Melonshelf together.[3][7]

Step three: Hellshelf and Seashelf
Next, make a Hellshelf and a Seashelf. "Upgraded Shelves" quest asks for both, plus an Spirit Attuned Crystal. The Tier 2 quest "Infusing The Magic" quest wants a table, one of these two shelves and an upgraded version of a Hellshelf or Seashelf.[3][5]

Step four: infuse them
Both shelves can be upgraded through Infusion Enchanting into the Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf, which is what "Infused Shelves" quest asks for. The infused versions are also the starting point for the Blazing, Glowing, Crystalline and Heart-Forged shelves and for the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration.[3][6][7]

Where to go from there
After the infused shelves, the quest a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the upgraded Hellshelf and Seashelf variants. It leads to "Shelves of the Deep" quest, which asks for the Deepshelf. You get a Deepshelf by activating a Dormant Deepshelf through infusion.[3][6][7]

Recipe id: apothic_enchanting:dormant_deepshelf
From the Deepshelf the chain continues to Infused Dragon's Breath, then the Endshelf, and on to the Library of Alexandria.[3][7]
The same chapter also asks for an Enchantment Library in a quest in "Gearing Up", and for a scrapping or extraction tome together with one of the other tomes in a quest in "Gearing Up".[3]
How does Apothic-Enchanting work?
6 parts
Apothic-Enchanting is built around the enchanting table and the blocks you put around it. The mod is the enchanting module of Apotheosis, and it replaces the set-and-forget vanilla table with a stat-driven system. This section covers how those stats work, how shelves feed the table, and how the infusion recipes turn one shelf into another.[1]
Enchanting stats
Shelves and other blocks around the table provide enchanting stats. There are three primary stats, and the table's maximum level is raised to 100. The primary stats show up directly in the Enchanting Table's GUI.[1]
- Eterna measures enchanting strength and increases the level cost.[1]
- Quanta measures randomness, and changes how much RNG is involved.[1]
- Arcana measures mystical quality. It increases the number of enchantments you receive and makes rare enchantments more common.[1]
On top of those, a few secondary stats fine-tune the table:[1]
- Enchanting Clues change how many enchantments you are shown when you hover a slot. More clues are better.[1]
- Quantic Stability makes Quanta only beneficial, with no chance of negative effects.[1]
- Allowing Treasure lets treasure enchantments such as Mending appear in the table. Curses are treasure enchantments too, so watch out.[1]
- Enchantment Filters let you blacklist certain enchantments from the table, so blocks with this stat can remove unwanted ones from the pool.[1]
Placing shelves around the table
There are 32 valid bookshelf locations: the ring around the table (corners included) on the same y-level, and the ring one y-level above. There must be an air block between the table and the shelf, otherwise it does not count. Other stat blocks, such as skulls or candles, only work when they sit in one of those locations too.[1]
Any block that provides enchanting stats shows them in its item tooltip. Some blocks give stats dynamically, so the tooltip is not always exact. Candles are the example: you can stack up to 4 in one block space, and stacking them gives more Arcana.[1]
Most blocks also declare a max Eterna value, which is the most that block can contribute to before its Eterna bonus is discarded. The mod uses a step-ladder: blocks with the lowest max are counted first, so you never have to tear out low-max shelves to reach higher levels. For example, 15 bookshelves (max 30) give you 30 Eterna. Adding another bookshelf keeps you at 30, but adding a Hellshelf (max 45) lifts it to 33.[1]
A block that has no specific enchanting stats but would normally provide enchanting power gives the same Eterna it normally would, capped at a max of 30.[1]
Getting and upgrading shelves
Many of the better shelves come from the mod's own infusion recipe type rather than normal crafting. Dormant Deepshelf, Hellshelf and Seashelf are all inputs to infusion recipes, and the mod has advancements for obtaining an Infused Hellshelf and an Infused Seashelf through Infusion Enchanting.[6][7]
A Dormant Deepshelf becomes a Deepshelf through infusion.
The Endshelf line starts with Infused Dragon's Breath. The mod's own infusion recipe turns Dragon's Breath into 3 Infused Dragon's Breath.[6][7]
Infusion (apothic_enchanting)

One Dragon's Breath makes 3 Infused Dragon's Breath.
If you run Create: Enchantment Industry, the pack also changes a Create filling recipe that produces Infused Dragon's Breath. It takes 250 of that mod's Infused Dragon's Breath together with a glass bottle.[7]

Changed by the pack: a Create filling recipe, not a crafting table recipe.
From there you can upgrade an Endshelf into a Draconic Endshelf, which has its own advancement.[6][7]

Tomes
Tomes act like books when enchanted, but they only accept enchantments for one type of item. There are nine in total: helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, bows, pickaxes, fishing poles, and a last one for enchantments that fit nowhere else. Here are three of the pack's tome recipes.[1][7]

The Tome of Scrapping and its upgraded forms remove enchantments from an item. The basic Tome of Scrapping pulls only half of the enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them but still destroys the item. The Tome of Extraction pulls all of them and leaves the original item intact.[1]
Experience and the Library
Experience costs are normalized for both the Enchanting Table and the Anvil. Only the true amount of experience is deducted, instead of whole levels taken off your current level, so you do not need to micromanage your XP.[1]
The Enchantment Library is the mod's storage solution for enchantments, so you do not have to keep them in chests. An infusion recipe in the pack upgrades it into the Library of Alexandria, Library of Alexandria.[1][6][7]

How do you progress through Apothic-Enchanting?
5 parts
Apothic-Enchanting progression in this pack is a ladder of shelves. You start with simple bookshelf upgrades and tomes, move up through the Hellshelf and Seashelf lines, then go into Deepshelves and finally the End tier. The pack's quests walk you up that ladder in order.[3]
Tier 1: Early shelves, tomes and the Library
The first group of quests in the Gearing Up chapter all unlock from the same earlier quest, so you can tackle them in any order. One quest asks for the Enchantment Library. Another wants a Stoneshelf, a Beeshelf and a Melonshelf. A third asks for the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability.[3]
There is also a tome quest. It accepts one scrapping-type tome (Tome of Scrapping, Tome of Superior Scrapping or Tome of Extraction). It also needs one gear tome, such as Tome of Helmets, Tome of Weaponry or Tome of the Miners. The superior scrapping tome and the extraction tome are upgrades made by infusing the tome one step below them.[3][7]
The pack changed the recipe for the Apothic Enchanting Table, so check the recipe below rather than relying on the mod's defaults.[7]

Tier 2: Hellshelf and Seashelf
The first real step up is the quest asking for a Hellshelf, a Seashelf and an Spirit Attuned Crystal. After it comes a quest for the infused versions, Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf. Each infused shelf is made by infusing its plain version.[3][7]

The World Engine Tier 2 chapter also asks for an enchanting table, plus one Hellshelf or Seashelf, plus one infused or upgraded variant. Its follow-up quests ask for a Deepshelf and an Echoing Deepshelf.[5]
Once you have the infused shelves, three quests open up. One wants a Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, plus a Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf. One wants the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration. One wants a Hellshelf of Sight or Hellshelf of Masterful Sight.[3]

Tier 3: Deepshelves
The Deepshelf quest unlocks after the quest for the upgraded Hellshelf and Seashelf variants. It asks for a Deepshelf and one specialised version. You can pick the Soul-Touched Deepshelf, Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, Echoing Sculkshelf or Echoing Deepshelf. A Deepshelf is made by infusing a Dormant Deepshelf.[3][7]
Tier 4: The End
The End tier starts with Infused Dragon's Breath, which is infused from regular dragon's breath. The pack also changed a Create Enchantment Industry filling recipe that produces the same item.[3][7]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work with other mods?
4 parts
Apothic Enchanting ties into a handful of other mods in this pack, mostly through recipes the pack changed or added. Its shelves and Infused Dragon's Breath show up in other mods' recipes and in the quest book, so it's worth knowing where they go.[3][7]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Apothic-Enchanting?
3 parts
Apothic Enchanting shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: gearing_up, World Engine Tier 2 and creative. Nearly all of it is in gearing_up, where the quests take you from your first enchanting shelves up to the end shelves and the Library of Alexandria. Every quest here is an item-collection quest.[3][4][5]
gearing_up
Four quests unlock after the same earlier quest, so you can take them in any order. a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Enchantment Library. "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest wants a Beeshelf, a Melonshelf and a Stoneshelf. a quest in "Gearing Up" wants the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability.[3]
The fourth, a quest in "Gearing Up", wants two tomes. One is a scrapping or extraction tome: Tome of Extraction, Tome of Superior Scrapping or Tome of Scrapping. The other can be any one of the gear tomes, such as Tome of Helmets, Tome of the Miners or Tome of the Others. The full list of accepted gear tomes is in the quest itself.[3]
After that, the main progression runs in this order:[3]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest asks for a Hellshelf, a Seashelf and an Spirit Attuned Crystal. It also needs one more earlier quest to be done.[3]
- "Infused Shelves" quest asks for the upgraded pair: Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf.[3]
- Three quests then open up from it. a quest in "Gearing Up" wants a Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, plus a Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf. a quest in "Gearing Up" wants the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration. a quest in "Gearing Up" wants a Hellshelf of Sight or Hellshelf of Masterful Sight.[3]
- "Shelves of the Deep" quest follows the quest that asks for the blazing or glowing hellshelf. It wants a Deepshelf plus one of the deepshelf variants: Soul-Touched Deepshelf, Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, Echoing Sculkshelf or Echoing Deepshelf.[3]
- "Achieving Enlightenment" quest asks for Infused Dragon's Breath.[3]
- "Endshelf" quest asks for the Endshelf.[3]
- "Level 100 Enchanting" quest asks for the Draconic Endshelf and the Pearlescent Endshelf.[3]
- The chapter's Apothic Enchanting line ends with two quests that both unlock after that one. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest asks for a God-Fused Pearl and the Enchanting Table of the Raven. "Library of Alexandria" quest asks for the Library of Alexandria.[3]
World Engine Tier 2
This chapter has three quests that use the mod. "Infusing The Magic" quest needs two earlier quests done first. It asks for a Enchanting Table, a Hellshelf or Seashelf, and one of the upgraded hellshelves or seashelves. Those are the infused, blazing or glowing hellshelves, and the infused, crystalline or heart-forged seashelves.[5]
"Magics of The Deep" quest comes after it and asks for a Deepshelf and an Echoing Deepshelf. "Auto-Build The Enchanting Upgrade" quest asks for the same two items. It unlocks after a different quest that does not involve this mod.[5]
creative
One quest in the creative chapter, "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest, asks for Infused Dragon's Breath together with a Dragon Egg and a Dragon Head. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter.[4]
What changed in Apothic-Enchanting between versions?
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships with Apothic-Enchanting 1.6.2 (the file ApothicEnchanting-1.21.1-1.6.2.jar). The mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.17.0 or earlier, so it's not a recent addition.[2]
Unverified The changelog entries between Apothic-Enchanting 1.6.0 and 1.6.2 weren't available to me, so I can't say what changed between those mod versions. There are also no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't confirm whether the pack changed anything about it from one release to the next.
