What is Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 3.2 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is the sequel to the classic Oh The Biomes You'll Go mod. It adds over 50 biomes, ranging from magical to realistic, so your world gets a lot more varied the moment you start exploring. Along with the biomes you get new mobs, new structures and hundreds of new blocks to use.[1]

If you love exploring, this mod gives you more places to find. If you love building, those hundreds of blocks are a big palette to work with.[1]

All the Mods 10 3.2 ships version 2.3.13 of the mod. It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

The mod appears in a few spots in the pack's quest book, so the blocks you collect while exploring come back into play later.[3][4][5]

Tip: Since the ATM Star chapter wants 8 Ebony Fence, note where you find this mod's biomes while you explore so you can come back when you need them.[1][3]

How do you get started with Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

5 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a big world generation mod. It adds over 50 biomes, from magical to realistic, plus new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks. There's no tech tree to climb here. Getting started just means gathering what the new biomes give you and turning it into useful blocks, a few quest completions and some tasty food.[1]

Step 1: Chop the new trees

Your first stop is the new wood. Trees like Aspen, Baobab and Blue Enchanted each come with a full wood set. You turn the logs into planks, and from the planks you can craft everything from doors and trapdoors to boats, bookshelves and a matching crafting table. Here's the Aspen set as an example. Baobab and Blue Enchanted work the same way with their own planks.[6]

Step 2: Build a Foragers Table

Next, grab some mushrooms and make a Foragers Table. It's cheap, and it's one of the workstations accepted by a quest in "?" in the pack's Tips and Tricks chapter. That makes it an easy early quest completion.[6][7]

Unverified What the Foragers Table does once placed isn't covered by the available sources, so check it in-game before you build your base around it.

Step 3: Collect some building stone

The Building Tips chapter has a quest, a quest in "?", that accepts any one of Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. You don't need to find any of these out in the world, because several can be crafted from basic stone blocks you'll already have.[6][8]

There's also a version using a moss block: minecraft:mossy_stone_from_moss_block.

If you've mined Dacite Cobblestone, you can smelt it into Dacite in a regular furnace. This pack also adds an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for it, so either machine works.[6]

Step 4: Snack your way through the biomes

The mod has its own food too, and it's worth grabbing while you explore. Aloe Vera Juice only needs Aloe Vera and a bottle. Once you've cooked an oddion bulb, you can turn it into Allium Oddion Soup or a Blooming Oddion.[6]

Tip: The mod's own advancements make a nice checklist while you explore. They ask you to obtain White Puffball Caps, cook a Cattail on a campfire (the advancement warns you might want to back away), craft both of the mod's pies and find a Green Apple from the Skyris Highlands.[9]

Looking ahead

Keep an eye out for Ebony wood. Much later, the big ATM Star quest a quest in "?" asks for 8 Ebony Fence among its many blocks. If you stash some Ebony early, that's one less thing to hunt down when you get there.[6][10]

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work?

5 parts

If you're looking for machines, power grids or multiblocks, this isn't that kind of mod. Oh The Biomes We've Gone is all about the world itself. It adds over 50 biomes, from magical to realistic, plus new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks. Its core systems cover where things generate and what you can build from what you find.[1]

Unverified None of the available material covers machines, multiblocks, energy, fluid or item handling, or automation for this mod. This guide can't confirm whether any such systems exist.

How the biomes are placed

The mod's biomes are grouped into 3 regions. One setting, region_weight, controls how much each region weighs, and it applies to all 3 at once. This pack sets it to 8.[11]

Every biome also has its own on/off switch in the world generation config. In this pack, almost all of them are enabled. The one exception is enabled_biomes.biomeswevegone:eroded_borealis, which is set to false, so don't expect to find the Eroded Borealis in your world.[11]

Tip: You might spot vanilla_additions, which adds the mod's flowers and features to vanilla biomes. It's set to true in this pack, but the config itself labels it as a Fabric-only option.[11]

Villager trades

The mod comes with its own villager trades, and this pack has them turned on through enable_trades. enable_vanilla_trade_additions is also true, which adds those trades to vanilla villagers as well.[12]

Wood sets

The new trees give you full wood sets. Take Aspen as an example. You can turn its logs into Aspen Planks, and from those make Aspen Stairs, Aspen Slab, Aspen Door, Aspen Trapdoor, Aspen Fence, Aspen Fence Gate, Aspen Button, Aspen Pressure Plate and Aspen Sign. You also get Aspen Hanging Sign, Aspen Boat and Aspen Boat with Chest.[6]

On top of the basics, Aspen gets its own themed Aspen Crafting Table and Aspen Bookshelf. Baobab follows the same pattern, with items like Baobab Crafting Table, Baobab Bookshelf and Baobab Boat with Chest.[6]

The plank recipes accept any log in the matching log tag, so you aren't limited to a single log block when making planks.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Goals worth chasing

The mod's advancements give you a good checklist while you explore.[9]

  • Explore all of the mod's biomes.[9]
  • Find all the Prairie houses.[9]
  • Find a Pixie Club Music Disc.[9]
  • Take on the different kind of challenge that lies in the Pale Bog.[9]
  • Obtain White Puffball Caps.[9]
  • Craft both of the mod's pies.[9]
  • Cook a Cattail on a campfire. The advancement itself warns you might want to back away![9]

How do you progress through Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone doesn't have a tiered progression here: no machines to upgrade and no material ladder to climb. Instead, the pack's quests touch the mod in three places, and each one asks for something you can pick up or craft pretty easily. Here's what those quests want and how to get it with this pack's recipes.[7][8][10]

Building Tips: natural stone variants

In the Building Tips chapter, a quest in "?" completes when you hand in any one of four stone blocks: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, and you only need one of the four.[8]

Three of those options can be crafted, so you don't have to go biome hunting. Rocky Stone is a simple shapeless craft, and Mossy Stone has two shapeless recipes, one using vines and one using a moss block.[6]

Tips and Tricks: the Foragers Table

In the Tips and Tricks chapter, a quest in "?" accepts any one workstation from a long list covering many mods. This mod's entry on that list is the Foragers Table, so if you'd rather not dig into another mod's tech, crafting one works. The quest unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[7]

Ebony Fences for a big build

The mod's biggest quest appearance is a quest in "?", a large build quest that asks for 8 Ebony Fence. They sit next to a long list of blocks from other mods, including an enchanting table, lots of enchanting shelves, darkstone blocks and Modular Machinery casings. The fences are a small part of that list, but you need them to finish.[10]

Tip: The Ebony Fence recipe uses Ebony Planks and sticks, so grab some ebony wood before you start on that build quest.[6]

Unverified The sources don't show how to get Ebony Planks or where ebony trees grow, and they don't say what the Foragers Table does once you place it. Check JEI in game for those details. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work with other mods?

4 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone brings a huge range of new trees, and this pack makes sure all that wood works with the tech and building mods around it. Most of the connections are about processing logs into planks and turning the mod's woods into furniture. A few quests also ask for BWG blocks.[6][7][8][10]

Sawing BWG logs with Mekanism

The pack adds its own Mekanism sawing recipes for every BWG wood type in the recipe dump, from Aspen and Baobab through to Witch Hazel and Zelkova. Feed in any log from a BWG wood's log tag and you get that wood's planks, such as Aspen Planks, plus Sawdust as a second output. Because the recipes take the whole log tag, you don't need to sort your logs by exact variant before they go in.[6]

Every BWG wood in the pack has a matching sawing recipe, for example Redwood, Sakura or Ebony.

Productive Trees sawmill

The pack also adds sawmill recipes from Productive Trees for the same BWG woods. These recipes also take any log from the matching BWG log tag and give that wood's planks, for example Redwood Planks or Sakura Planks. Sawdust also appears in each of these recipes. Check the recipe below to see exactly how it is used.[6]

BiblioCraft furniture in BWG woods

If you like decorating, the Bibliowoods recipes let you build BiblioCraft furniture from BWG woods. These come from the mod itself, not from pack tweaks. Examples include display cases, seats and several seat back styles (small, flat, raised, fancy and tall) in woods like Aspen, Baobab, Blue Enchanted and Cika. Two examples are Black Baobab Display Case and Black Cika Seat.[6]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 3.2 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone shows up in three quests, each in a different chapter of this pack. None of them is a questline of its own. Each quest simply accepts or asks for something from the mod alongside other content, so you'll mostly tick these off while doing other things.[3][4][5]

Building Tips: natural stones

In the building_tips chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks for any one of four stones from the mod: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. Any one of them completes it, so bring back whichever you find first while exploring. The quest unlocks only after you finish an earlier quest in that chapter.[4]

Tips and Tricks: the Foragers Table

In the tips_and_tricks chapter, quest a quest in "?" accepts any one item from a long list of blocks from many mods, and the Foragers Table is one of them. If you already have one, it counts, and you don't need anything else from that list. Like the stone quest, it unlocks after an earlier quest in its chapter.[5]

A big build quest: Ebony Fences

Quest a quest in "?" in the achapter_2r_6the_atm_star chapter is a large build that asks for a big pile of blocks from several mods. Its tasks include a Modular Machinery Reborn controller and casings, Forbidden Arcanus darkstone blocks and Apothic Enchanting shelves. This mod's share is 8 Ebony Fence.[3]

Tip: The only item from this mod you need in a specific amount is 8 Ebony Fence for the big build quest. The other two quests take any single matching item, so they're quick to finish once you have one.[3][4][5]

Unverified The quest files list the earlier quests that unlock the stone and Foragers Table quests, but they don't give a recommended order between the three chapters. Quest rewards aren't listed either, so they aren't covered here.

Which Oh The Biomes We've Gone config options matter?

4 parts

The mod keeps its settings in two files in the config folder, and most of what you'll want to touch lives in the world generation file. Keep in mind that biome and region settings only affect worlds generated after you change them, so make your edits before you start a new save.[11]

How often you see the new biomes

region_weight is set to 8 in this pack. That one value controls how much each of the mod's three regions weighs, so raising it pushes more of your world into the new biomes and lowering it leaves more room for vanilla and other biome mods.[11]

Tip: If your exploration feels overrun by new biomes (or you can never find the vanilla ones you need), region weight is the single knob to turn before generating a fresh world.[11]

Turning individual biomes on and off

The same file has an enabled_biomes list with a true/false toggle for every biome the mod adds, from enabled_biomes.biomeswevegone:bayou and enabled_biomes.biomeswevegone:sakura_grove to enabled_biomes.biomeswevegone:pumpkin_valley. In this pack almost all of them are left enabled, so you get the full spread.[11]

The one exception is enabled_biomes.biomeswevegone:eroded_borealis, which the pack sets to false. That biome will not generate in your world unless you flip it back to true yourself and start a new save.[11]

Flowers and features in vanilla biomes

vanilla_additions is true here, which sprinkles the mod's flowers and features into vanilla biomes. Note that the config file itself marks this one as a Fabric-only option.[11]

Villager trades

The trades file has two switches and the pack leaves both on. enable_trades is true, so the mod's villager trades are active, and enable_vanilla_trade_additions is also true, which adds those trades to vanilla villagers as well.[12]

Watch out: If you're running a trading hall and want tighter control over what your villagers can offer, turning off the vanilla trade additions is the setting to change rather than disabling trades entirely.[12]

What changed in Oh The Biomes We've Gone between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 10 2.12 ships version 2.2.5 of the NeoForge build of this mod, and it has been in the pack since 0.48 or earlier. I have no pack changelog entries for it, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[13]

2.2.5 (the version in this pack)

  • Pale Pumpkin Set, GlowCane Shoots and Cattail Sprouts can now be composted.[14]
  • Fixed animals not spawning in the mod's biomes because of missing block tags.[14]
  • Goats now spawn in Howling Peaks. Armadillos now spawn in Araucaria, Baobab Savannas, Ironwood Gour and Red Rock Valley.[14]

SpookTober and the fruit tweaks

Version 2.2.0 was the SpookTober Update. It added the Spirit Wood Set, Pale Mud (plus Packed and Bricks), Fluorescent Cattails, GlowCane and Glowcane powder, Soul Fruit, Glow Bottles and Pale Pumpkins. It also brought a Pale Pumpkin Warden variant, the Pale Bog biome and a Bog Trial structure.[15]

The same release increased pumpkin generation in Pumpkin Valley and added the Pixie Club music disc to the Forgotten Village house and temple chest pools.[15]

  • 2.2.1: fixed a Fruit Block and Fruit Leaves crash. Endermen no longer get angry when you wear a Pale Carved Pumpkin, and that pumpkin can now take the Vanishing enchantment.[16]
  • 2.2.2: fixed the Soul Torch recipe using Soul Fruit overwriting the vanilla recipe.[17]
  • 2.2.3: Orchard Trees got an apple fruit decorator, and fruit blocks now generate on fruit leaves. Fruit Leaves can only be bonemealed when there is air below, and Flowering Leaves placed by a player can't be bonemealed.[17]
  • 2.2.4: a projectile hit now breaks a fully grown Fruit Block and drops the fruit. Bonemealing grass in Allium Shrubland can grow any color of Allium and Allium Bush. Snow Drops, Winter Cyclamen and Protea were added to several biomes, and an incompatibility with the Organics mod was fixed.[18]

NeoForge fixes

  • 2.1.0-Beta: Lush Farmland was added to the NeoForge villager farmland tags so villagers can plant on it.[19]
  • 2.1.1-Beta (NeoForge only): compostables and fuels moved to a datamap, which fixed compostables not working on NeoForge.[19]
  • 2.1.2: fixed Peat fuel having the wrong burn value on NeoForge, fixed Overgrown Stone and Dacite not spreading, and fixed more than one BWG boat stacking together.[19]
  • 2.1.5: fixed and added missing Mossy Red Rock and Mossy Stone recipes, and added the missing Foragers Table recipe.[20]

The move to NeoForge

Version 2.0.0-Beta updated the mod to 1.21.1 with Java 21 and added NeoForge support. The follow-up 2.0.1-Beta restored missing recipes for doors, trapdoors, slabs, stairs, buttons, pressure plates, signs and fences, and fixed Oddion food saturation values.[20]
