What is Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

1 part

Oh The Biomes We've Gone, usually shortened to BWG, is a worldgen mod and the sequel to the original Oh The Biomes You'll Go for 1.20.1 and later. It adds over 50 new biomes that range from the magical to the realistic, along with new mobs, structures, and hundreds of new blocks to build with.[1]

In this pack you're running version 2.0.0-Beta of the mod, which has been part of the pack since this version or earlier. You don't need to do anything to turn it on: the biomes are generated into your world from the moment you create it.[2]

This one is for you if you like exploring. Instead of gating progression behind a tech tree, BWG changes what's on the other side of the horizon: diverse and detailed landscapes to wander through, unique mobs to run into, and structures to poke around in while you're out gathering resources for everything else in the pack.[1]

Where it fits in progression

BWG sits alongside the pack's progression rather than inside it. There are no quests in this pack that involve the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path, so nothing here is required to finish the pack. Treat its biomes and blocks as a bonus you'll bump into naturally while you're travelling for other goals.[2]

Tip: Because BWG's biomes are baked into world generation, it's worth deciding whether you want the mod before you start a world: the biomes you already have won't change later.[1]

Unverified Details on specific BWG biomes, mobs, structures, wood types and any pack-side config tweaks aren't covered by the sources available for this page, so check in-game with JEI or the mod's own content rather than assuming defaults. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

4 parts

This mod adds over 50 biomes, plus new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks, so your first steps are really just normal survival with a much bigger palette of trees, stone and food to work with. There's no machine or progression gate here: you chop what you find and build from it.[1]

Step one: turn new logs into planks

Every new wood type in the pack follows the vanilla pattern, so the first thing to do when you walk into an unfamiliar forest is chop a tree and convert the logs. Aspen, baobab, blue enchanted and cika all have their own plank recipe, and each one accepts any log of that wood family.[3]

  • any aspen log

Recipe id: biomeswevegone:aspen_planks

The other woods work the same way: swap in baobab, cika or blue enchanted logs.

Once you have planks, you can make a crafting table out of them straight away, which is handy when you're a long way from home and just want to start building.[3]

Step two: get moving

These biomes are big, and a lot of the good stuff is across water. Each wood type gives you a boat, and a chest boat if you want to haul saplings and sand back with you.[1][3]

Tip: Strip a log before you make a hanging sign: the hanging sign recipes use stripped logs, not planks or regular logs.[3]

Step three: early food

Food is the other thing worth grabbing early. Blueberries make a blueberry pie, which is one of the two pies the mod tracks with an advancement for crafting both.[3][4]

Aloe vera turns into aloe vera juice with nothing more than a glass bottle, so it's an easy pickup whenever you spot it.[3]

Cooked oddion bulbs are the base of two more foods: a soup and a blooming oddion. Both are worth knowing about once you've found oddions and a campfire or furnace.[3]

Step four: building blocks

When you start building, the coloured sands are your friend. Black, blue, pink, purple, white and windswept sand all have a matching sandstone line with cut, chiseled, slab, stair and wall variants, exactly like vanilla sandstone.[3]

Cattails are the other cheap decorative material. Cattail sprouts compress into cattail thatch, which then gives you stairs, slabs and a carpet, great for roofs and paths in the wetland biomes.[3]

Tip: Cooking a cattail on a campfire triggers an advancement, and the hint suggests backing away first, try it somewhere you don't mind losing.[4]

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture: Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a worldgen and content mod, not a tech mod. It's pitched as the sequel to the original BYG mod, with over 50 biomes, new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks to build with. The sources I have show no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems for it, so this section stays short.[1]

Crafting is the main system

What the pack's recipe data does show is ordinary crafting-table recipes. Each wood type gets a full set of crafted items, and the Aspen set is a good example: Aspen Planks, Aspen Crafting Table, Aspen Bookshelf, Aspen Boat, Aspen Boat with Chest and Aspen Hanging Sign. The Baobab and Blue Enchanted woods have the same set of recipes.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any aspen log

Planks are made from any log of the matching wood type.

Stone and building blocks

Black Sand can be crafted into Black Sandstone. The sandstone then has slab, stairs and wall recipes, plus chiseled and cut variants.[3]

Food and drink

The mod adds a few crafted foods. Aloe Vera Juice is a shapeless recipe built around Aloe Vera. Allium Oddion Soup and Blooming Oddion both use Cooked Oddion Bulb.[3]

Watch out: One of the mod's advancements asks you to cook a Cattail on a campfire, and its description warns you might want to back away. Take that seriously and stand clear.[4]

Unverified The sources I had don't explain anything about machines, multiblocks, power, fluid handling or item automation for this mod, and the pack has no config files for it. Treat any claims on those topics as unverified.

How do you progress through Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture, since this one is a bit different from the tech mods. Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a biome and building-block mod, so the sources for this pack show no machine tiers, no upgrade ladder and no gated power levels. What they do show is a set of crafting chains, and those make up the progression you'll actually feel.[3]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve this mod, and it isn't on the main quest path, so there is no quest-driven order to follow. Your pace is up to you.

Wood sets

Each tree type here follows the same pattern. Chop a log, turn it into planks, and you can build out the whole set. The sources show this for Aspen, Baobab, Blue Enchanted, Cika, Cypress, Ebony and Fir. A log of the matching tree type becomes Aspen Planks, for example, and the other woods work the same way.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any aspen log

Recipe id: biomeswevegone:aspen_planks

The same pattern applies to the other tree types.

From planks you can make boats, chest boats, crafting tables and bookshelves, such as Aspen Boat, Aspen Crafting Table and Aspen Bookshelf. Hanging signs like Aspen Hanging Sign use the stripped log instead of planks, so strip a few logs along the way.[3]

A log also converts into its bark-covered wood block, for example Cypress Log into Cypress Wood.[3]

Sand and stone

The sand colors (black, blue, and others) all follow one ladder. Sand becomes sandstone, such as Black Sandstone, and sandstone becomes the cut variant, such as Cut Black Sandstone. Slabs, stairs and walls come off the base sandstone.[3]

The chiseled version is made from a slab, so you make slabs first and then step up to the decorative block.[3]

Dacite has its own short chain. Dacite becomes Dacite Bricks, and the bricks become biomeswevegone:dacite_tile. The pillar is made straight from dacite.[3]

Food and plants

The mod adds a few simple recipes built on its own crops. Aloe Vera makes Aloe Vera Juice, and Blueberries make Blueberry Pie. Cooked Oddion Bulb is the base for Allium Oddion Soup and Blooming Oddion.[3]

Cattail also has a small chain. Cattail Sprout becomes Cattail Thatch, which you can turn into carpet, slabs and stairs.[3]

Unverified The recipe list available for this section was cut off, so some recipes for this mod aren't covered here. Check in-game recipe viewers for anything not mentioned. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.53 guide

In this pack, the main link between Oh The Biomes We've Gone and other mods is wood processing. The pack adds sawing recipes for the mod's logs in Mekanism and in Productive Trees, so you can turn the new biome woods into planks and sawdust with machines.[5]

Mekanism sawing

The pack adds a Mekanism sawing recipe for each of the mod's wood types. Any log from that wood's log tag goes in, and you get the matching planks plus Sawdust. For example, any Aspen log gives you Aspen Planks and sawdust. The same pattern covers the other woods, such as Baobab Planks, Sakura Planks and Zelkova Planks.[5]

Aspen Planks, SawdustAdded by the pack

Sawing (mekanism)

  • any aspen log

Recipe id: allthemods:mekanism/sawing/biomeswevegone/aspen_planks

The Aspen version. Every other wood from the mod follows the same pattern.

Productive Trees sawmill

The pack also adds a Productive Trees sawmill recipe for each of the mod's wood types. These recipes involve the wood's planks, Sawdust and any log from the matching log tag. Note that this sawdust is a different item from the Mekanism one.[5]

Added by the pack

Sawmill (productivetrees)

Recipe id: allthemods:productivetrees/sawing/biomeswevegone/aspen_planks

The Aspen version of the sawmill recipe.

Unverified The recipe dump lists the Productive Trees sawmill recipes in a different layout from the Mekanism ones, so the exact input and output split (and any quantities) is not confirmed here. Check the recipe block above in-game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Which woods are covered

The recipes in Mekanism and in Productive Trees cover the mod's whole wood lineup, including the more unusual ones like Blue Enchanted Planks, Green Enchanted Planks, Rainbow Eucalyptus Planks, White Mangrove Planks and Witch Hazel Planks. They work from the log tags, so any log in a wood's tag is accepted.[5]

Tip: These recipes are added by the pack, not by the mods themselves. If you're automating planks from the new biome woods, remember that the Mekanism sawdust and the Productive Trees sawdust are different items.[5]

Which Oh The Biomes We've Gone config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.8 guide

Short version: there's nothing to configure here. This pack ships Oh The Biomes We've Gone without any config files for it, so there are no pack-changed values, toggles or generation sliders to hunt down.[1]

That means the biomes, mobs, structures and blocks the mod adds are all present as the mod ships them, and you don't need to edit anything before starting a world to get them. You're looking at over 50 biomes plus the mod's own mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks, straight out of the box.[1]

Unverified Whether the mod exposes any in-game or file-based config options at all in this version could not be confirmed from the available sources. If a config file appears in your instance after first launch, treat its values as mod defaults rather than pack-tuned settings, and remember that world generation is written into chunks as they are created, so generation tweaks are safest before you start a new world.

What changed in Oh The Biomes We've Gone between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10 0.48 ships Oh The Biomes We've Gone 2.0.0-Beta, the NeoForge build. The pack file list only says it was first included in 0.48 or earlier, so you can't tell from it exactly when it arrived.[2]

2.0.0-Beta (the version in this pack)

  • Updated to Minecraft 1.21.1 and Java 21.[6]
  • Added NeoForge support, which is the build this pack uses.[2][6]

Earlier 1.x betas

These are the mod's own changelog entries from before the NeoForge update. They are useful if you're wondering when a fix or feature first appeared.[6]

  • 1.2.2-Beta: Sheep can now eat Lush Grass, Cattail no longer explodes on a campfire that isn't lit, colored sand got recipes, and the Forager job fix landed on Fabric.[6]
  • 1.2.1-Beta: Fixed wrong nutrition values on Oddion foods and some surface rule issues. It also required TYG 1.3.1, which fixes trees piercing the surface, and CorgiLib 4.0.3.2.[6]
  • 1.2.0-Beta: Added Forager trades with a config, plus vanilla trades with an option to disable them. Dacite variants and overgrown stone now drop the right blocks, tall flowers work for crafting dyes, and Sakura Leaves use the cherry sound when broken. The WTHIT plugin was updated too.[6]
  • 1.1.2-Beta: Added block and item tags for Alliums, Roses, Tulips, Amaranth, Sages and Daffodils. Flowering Leaves and Flowering Bushes joined the Minecraft flower tag, and several Skyris village buildings were updated.[6]
  • 1.1.1-Beta: Removed End Sand, fixed tillables not working on Forge, fixed swamp biome disabling and enabling, and stopped snowy plants generating on top of non-full snow blocks. Required CorgiLib moved to 4.0.3.0.[6]
  • 1.1.0-Beta: Fixed drops on several leaves, including Holly Berry Leaves, made all vine blocks compostable and climbable, and stopped grass generating in caves in Allium Shrubland.[6]

Unverified The mod changelog shown to me was cut off after 1.1.0-Beta, so older releases are not covered here. There are also no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't say what changed for it between ATM10 releases.
