What is Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

1 part

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is the sequel to the classic Oh The Biomes You'll Go mod. It adds over 50 biomes, ranging from magical to realistic, so your world gets a lot more varied the moment you start exploring. Along with the biomes you get new mobs, new structures and hundreds of new blocks to use.[1]

If you love exploring, this mod gives you more places to find. If you love building, those hundreds of blocks are a big palette to work with.[1]

All the Mods 10 3.2 ships version 2.3.13 of the mod. It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

The mod appears in a few spots in the pack's quest book, so the blocks you collect while exploring come back into play later.[3][4][5]

Tip: Since the ATM Star chapter wants 8 Ebony Fence, note where you find this mod's biomes while you explore so you can come back when you need them.[1][3]

How do you get started with Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

4 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone adds over 50 biomes, from magical to realistic, along with new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks. It's mostly a world-generation and building mod, so you don't have a tech tree to climb here. You get started by exploring, gathering the new materials and crafting the handful of useful blocks the pack's quests ask for.[1]

Step 1: Chop the new wood

When you reach one of the new biomes, grab some logs. Each wood type, like aspen or baobab, turns into its own planks. From those planks you get the full building set, including a crafting table that matches the wood. It works as a nice replacement for the vanilla one if you're building with these colours.[6]

Step 2: Make a Foragers Table

The Foragers Table is one of the mod's own workstations. In this pack it counts toward a quest in "?" in the tips and tricks chapter, which accepts it as one of several possible items. That makes it a quick, cheap quest completion early on.[5][6]

Step 3: Collect a stone variant for building

The building tips chapter has a quest in "?", which accepts any one of Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. You don't have to go hunting for a specific biome. Rocky Stone and Mossy Stone can both be crafted from basic materials you'll have in your first few minutes.[4][6]

Looking ahead: Ebony Fences

This one isn't needed right away, but plan for it. The much bigger a quest in "?" asks for a long list of blocks, and 8 of them are Ebony Fence. You'll need Ebony Planks for them, so keep ebony wood in mind while you explore.[3][6]

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a sequel to the original BYG mod, and it focuses on world content rather than technical systems. The project page describes over 50 biomes, new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks to use. So in this section you'll find the crafting and gameplay loops the sources actually show.[1]

Wood crafting

The recipes shown in the pack's recipe data for this mod are normal crafting recipes, both shaped and shapeless. Aspen and Baobab are the two wood types in the sources. Each has recipes for planks, slabs, stairs, doors, trapdoors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, signs, hanging signs, boats, chest boats, bookshelves and crafting tables.[7]

Hanging signs are made with the stripped version of the log, such as Stripped Aspen Log. Here are a few Aspen examples.[7]

Advancement hints

The mod's advancement descriptions hint at some of its gameplay loops. One asks you to cook a Cattail on a campfire, with a warning to back away. Others ask you to obtain White Puffball Caps, get a Green Apple from the Skyris Vale, or craft both of the BWG pies.[8]

The exploration advancements point you toward the mod's world content. You can find all the Prairie houses, find all the inhabited BWG Villages, or explore all of the BWG biomes. There's also a Pale Bog challenge, and a Pixie Club music disc to track down.[8]

Tip: The advancements and the project page both point toward exploring the mod's biomes and structures, so plan your adventures around those.[1][8]

How do you progress through Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone doesn't come with a tiered gear or machine ladder in this pack. It shows up in the questbook in a few specific places, and each one asks for blocks and workstations you get from the mod's wood, stone and plants. Here's where it appears and how to make what each quest wants.[3][4][5]

Building tips: natural stone

In the building tips chapter, a quest in "?" unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter. You complete it by getting any one of four stones: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. You only need one, so pick whichever is easiest for you.[4]

Rocky Stone is probably the quickest, because you can craft it from vanilla stone blocks right away.[6]

2× Rocky StoneMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: biomeswevegone:rocky_stone

Mossy Stone has two early crafting recipes, one with vines and one with a moss block. Once you have Mekanism running, there's also a metallurgic infusing recipe that turns stone into Mossy Stone.[6]

Dacite works like vanilla stone: you smelt Dacite Cobblestone back into Dacite. Mekanism can also enrich Dacite Cobblestone into Dacite, and it can crush Dacite Bricks or a Dacite Pillar back down to plain Dacite.[6]

For Red Rock, the recipes shown here only convert decorative bricks back into the base block. Mekanism crushing turns Cracked Red Rock Bricks into Red Rock, and enriching does the same for Chiseled Red Rock Bricks.[6]

Tips and tricks: the Foragers Table

In the tips and tricks chapter, a quest in "?" accepts any one of a long list of workstations from different mods. The Foragers Table from this mod is on that list, and it's a cheap way to finish the quest early because its recipe only uses mushrooms and planks.[5][6]

Big build quest: Ebony Fences

The mod's largest contribution comes in a quest in "?". That quest asks for a huge pile of blocks from many mods, and 8 Ebony Fence are among them. You'll want a supply of Ebony Planks ready before you get there.[3][6]

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone adds a lot of new wood types, and this pack plugs them into other mods' machines and furniture. The two big connections are sawmill processing for its logs and Bibliocraft-style furniture made from its slabs. A couple of the pack's quests also accept its blocks.[9][10][11]

Sawmill processing for BWG logs

The pack adds its own sawmill recipes, using the productivetrees:sawmill recipe type, for the mod's logs. Each one takes any log from a wood type's log tag and gives you that wood's planks. Sawdust (Sawdust) also appears in every one of these recipes. Covered woods include Aspen, Baobab, Blue and Green Enchanted, Cika, Cypress, Ebony, Fir, Florus, Holly, Ironwood, Jacaranda, Mahogany, Maple, Palm, Pine, Rainbow Eucalyptus, Redwood, Sakura, Skyris, Spirit, White Mangrove, Willow, Witch Hazel and Zelkova.[9]

Tip: These sawmill recipes exist for so many BWG woods that the log tags are worth leaning on. Every recipe accepts any log from that wood's tag, so you don't have to sort out which exact log you're holding.[9]

Bibliocraft furniture in BWG woods

If you like decorating, BWG slabs work as the wood for Bibliocraft furniture. The recipe list includes black-colored display cases, seats and several seat back styles (small, flat, raised, tall and fancy) in Aspen, Baobab, Blue Enchanted, Cika, Cypress, Ebony and Fir. You can make an Black Ebony Seat to match an Ebony build, or show off loot in a Black Cypress Display Case.[9]

Unverified The sources only show black furniture variants for these seven BWG woods. Other colors or other BWG woods may also have furniture recipes in the pack, but that is unverified.

Quests that use BWG blocks

In the pack's building tips quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" is completed with any one of Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. It's a nice nudge to try BWG stones in your builds.[10]

In the tips and tricks chapter, quest a quest in "?" accepts any of a long list of workstation blocks from different mods. The BWG Foragers Table is on that list, alongside blocks such as the AE2 charger and the Immersive Engineering workbench.[11]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Oh The Biomes We've Gone shows up in three quests, each in a different chapter of this pack. None of them is a questline of its own. Each quest simply accepts or asks for something from the mod alongside other content, so you'll mostly tick these off while doing other things.[3][4][5]

Building Tips: natural stones

In the building_tips chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks for any one of four stones from the mod: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. Any one of them completes it, so bring back whichever you find first while exploring. The quest unlocks only after you finish an earlier quest in that chapter.[4]

Tips and Tricks: the Foragers Table

In the tips_and_tricks chapter, quest a quest in "?" accepts any one item from a long list of blocks from many mods, and the Foragers Table is one of them. If you already have one, it counts, and you don't need anything else from that list. Like the stone quest, it unlocks after an earlier quest in its chapter.[5]

A big build quest: Ebony Fences

Quest a quest in "?" in the achapter_2r_6the_atm_star chapter is a large build that asks for a big pile of blocks from several mods. Its tasks include a Modular Machinery Reborn controller and casings, Forbidden Arcanus darkstone blocks and Apothic Enchanting shelves. This mod's share is 8 Ebony Fence.[3]

Tip: The only item from this mod you need in a specific amount is 8 Ebony Fence for the big build quest. The other two quests take any single matching item, so they're quick to finish once you have one.[3][4][5]

Unverified The quest files list the earlier quests that unlock the stone and Foragers Table quests, but they don't give a recommended order between the three chapters. Quest rewards aren't listed either, so they aren't covered here.

1 part

In All the Mods 10 3.2, Oh The Biomes We've Gone ships as version 2.3.13. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier, so it's been around for a big chunk of the pack's life.[2]

Across the pack's releases the mod got a steady run of small version bumps. The pack changelogs only record the version numbers, so the list below shows when each update landed, not what changed inside the mod.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
