What is Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

1 part

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is the sequel to the classic Oh The Biomes You'll Go mod. It adds over 50 new biomes to your world, ranging from magical to realistic. If you like exploring and finding new places, this mod gives you plenty of them.[1]

The mod adds more than biomes. It also brings new mobs, new structures and hundreds of new blocks. That makes it great for builders: every new biome is a chance to find new stones, woods and decorative blocks for your next project.[1]

This pack ships version 2.2.5 of the mod.[2]

Where it fits in the pack

This mod is mostly about exploration and building, not tech progression. Its main place in the questbook is the building tips chapter. Quest a quest in "?" asks you to bring back one of its natural stones: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. Any one of them completes the quest.[3]

Tip: That quest accepts four different stones, so you don't need to hunt for a specific biome. Grab whichever of those blocks you find first while you're out exploring.[3]

Unverified This mod does not appear to be part of the ATM Star progression path, so you can explore its biomes at your own pace without worrying about your endgame.

How do you get started with Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a big world generation mod. It adds over 50 biomes, from magical to realistic, plus new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks. There's no tech tree to climb here. Getting started just means gathering what the new biomes give you and turning it into useful blocks, a few quest completions and some tasty food.[1]

Step 1: Chop the new trees

Your first stop is the new wood. Trees like Aspen, Baobab and Blue Enchanted each come with a full wood set. You turn the logs into planks, and from the planks you can craft everything from doors and trapdoors to boats, bookshelves and a matching crafting table. Here's the Aspen set as an example. Baobab and Blue Enchanted work the same way with their own planks.[4]

Step 2: Build a Foragers Table

Next, grab some mushrooms and make a Foragers Table. It's cheap, and it's one of the workstations accepted by a quest in "?" in the pack's Tips and Tricks chapter. That makes it an easy early quest completion.[4][5]

Unverified What the Foragers Table does once placed isn't covered by the available sources, so check it in-game before you build your base around it.

Step 3: Collect some building stone

The Building Tips chapter has a quest, a quest in "?", that accepts any one of Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. You don't need to find any of these out in the world, because several can be crafted from basic stone blocks you'll already have.[4][6]

There's also a version using a moss block: minecraft:mossy_stone_from_moss_block.

If you've mined Dacite Cobblestone, you can smelt it into Dacite in a regular furnace. This pack also adds an Ender IO alloy smelting recipe for it, so either machine works.[4]

Step 4: Snack your way through the biomes

The mod has its own food too, and it's worth grabbing while you explore. Aloe Vera Juice only needs Aloe Vera and a bottle. Once you've cooked an oddion bulb, you can turn it into Allium Oddion Soup or a Blooming Oddion.[4]

Looking ahead

Keep an eye out for Ebony wood. Much later, the big ATM Star quest a quest in "?" asks for 8 Ebony Fence among its many blocks. If you stash some Ebony early, that's one less thing to hunt down when you get there.[4][8]

How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.8 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a world generation mod, not a tech mod. It is the sequel to Oh The Biomes You'll Go and adds over 50 biomes, from magical to realistic, along with new mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks. The mod's core mechanics are exploring, gathering and building with what you find, not machines or power networks.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item-transport systems for this mod. If any exist, they couldn't be confirmed here, so plan your automation around other mods in the pack.

Exploration is the progression

The mod's advancements show where the progression is: going places. One advancement asks you to explore all of the BWG biomes. Another asks you to find all the Prairie houses. Another rewards you for finding a Pixie Club music disc.[7]

Keep an eye out for the Pale Bog. Finding one earns its own advancement, and the mod hints that the Pale Bog holds a different kind of challenge through an advancement called Witches Road.[7]

Unverified What the Pale Bog challenge involves, and exactly where the Prairie houses and Pixie Club disc can be found, is not covered by the sources.

Wood sets

Each new tree gives you a full wood set, and they all work the same way. Aspen and Baobab are good examples. You turn logs into planks, and the planks become stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, buttons, pressure plates, signs and boats. Each wood type even has its own crafting table and bookshelf, so a themed base is easy to build.[9]

Tip: The wood set and food recipes covered in this section are the mod's own recipes, used unchanged in this pack, so what you learn here matches what you see in-game.[9]

Foraging and food

The mod also comes with plenty to forage. Its husbandry advancements point you toward some of it: White Puffball Caps, a Green Apple from the Skyris Highlands, and crafting both of the BWG pies.[7]

Some plants turn into simple foods. Aloe Vera becomes Aloe Vera Juice. You can also make Allium Oddion Soup once you have a Cooked Oddion Bulb.[9]

Unverified What actually happens when a Cattail is cooked on a campfire, which two pies the mod adds, and how to get a Cooked Oddion Bulb are not covered by the sources.

How do you progress through Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone doesn't have a tiered progression here: no machines to upgrade and no material ladder to climb. Instead, the pack's quests touch the mod in three places, and each one asks for something you can pick up or craft pretty easily. Here's what those quests want and how to get it with this pack's recipes.[5][6][8]

Building Tips: natural stone variants

In the Building Tips chapter, a quest in "?" completes when you hand in any one of four stone blocks: Dacite, Red Rock, Mossy Stone or Rocky Stone. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, and you only need one of the four.[6]

Three of those options can be crafted, so you don't have to go biome hunting. Rocky Stone is a simple shapeless craft, and Mossy Stone has two shapeless recipes, one using vines and one using a moss block.[4]

Tips and Tricks: the Foragers Table

In the Tips and Tricks chapter, a quest in "?" accepts any one workstation from a long list covering many mods. This mod's entry on that list is the Foragers Table, so if you'd rather not dig into another mod's tech, crafting one works. The quest unlocks after another quest in the same chapter.[5]

Ebony Fences for a big build

The mod's biggest quest appearance is a quest in "?", a large build quest that asks for 8 Ebony Fence. They sit next to a long list of blocks from other mods, including an enchanting table, lots of enchanting shelves, darkstone blocks and Modular Machinery casings. The fences are a small part of that list, but you need them to finish.[8]

Unverified The sources don't show how to get Ebony Planks or where ebony trees grow, and they don't say what the Foragers Table does once you place it. Check JEI in game for those details. How does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone brings a huge range of new trees, and this pack makes sure all that wood works with the tech and building mods around it. Most of the connections are about processing logs into planks and turning the mod's woods into furniture. A few quests also ask for BWG blocks.[4][5][6][8]

Sawing BWG logs with Mekanism

The pack adds its own Mekanism sawing recipes for every BWG wood type in the recipe dump, from Aspen and Baobab through to Witch Hazel and Zelkova. Feed in any log from a BWG wood's log tag and you get that wood's planks, such as Aspen Planks, plus Sawdust as a second output. Because the recipes take the whole log tag, you don't need to sort your logs by exact variant before they go in.[4]

Every BWG wood in the pack has a matching sawing recipe, for example Redwood, Sakura or Ebony.

Productive Trees sawmill

The pack also adds sawmill recipes from Productive Trees for the same BWG woods. These recipes also take any log from the matching BWG log tag and give that wood's planks, for example Redwood Planks or Sakura Planks. Sawdust also appears in each of these recipes. Check the recipe below to see exactly how it is used.[4]

BiblioCraft furniture in BWG woods

If you like decorating, the Bibliowoods recipes let you build BiblioCraft furniture from BWG woods. These come from the mod itself, not from pack tweaks. Examples include display cases, seats and several seat back styles (small, flat, raised, fancy and tall) in woods like Aspen, Baobab, Blue Enchanted and Cika. Two examples are Black Baobab Display Case and Black Cika Seat.[4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Oh The Biomes We've Gone?

1 part

Oh The Biomes We've Gone shows up in just one quest in this pack, in the building_tips chapter. That chapter is all about decorative blocks, so this quest points you toward some of the stone types the mod adds.[3]

Building Tips chapter

The quest is a quest in "?". It has no title, and it asks for one of four natural stones from the mod. Bring any one of these and the task is done:[3]

This quest isn't available from the start. It unlocks after you finish an earlier quest in the same chapter, so work through the building_tips chapter in order and it will open up.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say where each of these stones generates or what reward the quest gives, so check that in-game.

Which Oh The Biomes We've Gone config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.8 guide

Short version: there's nothing to configure here. This pack ships Oh The Biomes We've Gone without any config files for it, so there are no pack-changed values, toggles or generation sliders to hunt down.[1]

That means the biomes, mobs, structures and blocks the mod adds are all present as the mod ships them, and you don't need to edit anything before starting a world to get them. You're looking at over 50 biomes plus the mod's own mobs, structures and hundreds of blocks, straight out of the box.[1]

Unverified Whether the mod exposes any in-game or file-based config options at all in this version could not be confirmed from the available sources. If a config file appears in your instance after first launch, treat its values as mod defaults rather than pack-tuned settings, and remember that world generation is written into chunks as they are created, so generation tweaks are safest before you start a new world.

What changed in Oh The Biomes We've Gone between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 10 1.26 ships Oh The Biomes We've Gone 2.2.5 (the NeoForge jar). The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.48 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so this section only covers the mod's own changelogs.

2.2.5 (the version in this pack)

  • The Pale Pumpkin set, GlowCane Shoots and Cattail Sprouts can now be composted.[10]
  • Fixed animals not spawning in BWG biomes because of missing block tags.[10]
  • Goats were added to Howling Peaks. Armadillos were added to Araucaria, Baobab Savannas, Ironwood Gour and Red Rock Valley.[10]
  • Russian translations were added.[10]

2.2.1 to 2.2.4

  • 2.2.4: White Mangrove canopies no longer float above their trunks, and Howling Peaks no longer spawns in the Desert Peak region. Snow Drops were added to Eroded Borealis and Howling Peaks, Winter Cyclamen to Howling Peaks, and Protea to Fragment Jungle.[11]
  • 2.2.4: Bonemealing grass blocks in Allium Shrubland gives a chance of any color of Alliums and Allium Bushes growing. Hitting a fully grown Fruit Block with a projectile breaks it and drops the fruit.[11]
  • 2.2.4: Fixed an incompatibility with the Organics mod.[11]
  • 2.2.3: Orchard Trees got an Apple fruit decorator, and the bug where Fruit Blocks were not generating on Fruit Leaves was fixed. Fruit Leaves are now only valid bonemeal targets when there is air below, and Flowering Leaves placed by a player can't be bonemealed.[12]
  • 2.2.2: Fixed the Soul Torch recipe with Soul Fruit overwriting the vanilla recipe.[12]
  • 2.2.1: Fixed a Fruit Block/Leaves crash. Endermen no longer anger when you wear a Pale Carved Pumpkin, and that pumpkin can now take the Vanishing enchantment.[13]

2.2.0 SpookTober Update

This was the big content release. It added the Spirit Wood set, Pale Mud (plus Packed and Bricks), Fluorescent Cattails, GlowCane and Glowcane powder, Soul Fruit, Glow Bottles and Pale Pumpkins. It also brought the Pale Pumpkin Warden variant, the Pale Bog biome and the Bog Trial structure.[14]

Along the way it optimized Crag Garden and Basalt Barrera generation, increased pumpkin generation in Pumpkin Valley, and added the Pixie Club music disc to Forgotten Village house and temple chest pools.[14]

Earlier releases

  • 2.1.5: Added missing Mossy Red Rock and Mossy Stone recipes and a missing Forager's Table recipe. Also fixed an incompatibility with William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld and Expanded Ecosphere.[15]
  • 2.1.2: Fixed Peat fuel having the wrong burn value on NeoForge, fixed Overgrown Stone and Dacite not spreading, and fixed more than one BWG boat being able to stack.[16]
  • 2.1.1-Beta (NeoForge only): Compostables and fuels moved to a datamap, which fixed compostables not working on NeoForge.[16]
  • 2.0.0-Beta: Updated to Minecraft 1.21.1 with Java 21, and added NeoForge support.[15]
