Entangled is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.3.21. Entangled allows you to 'entangle' two blocks together! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Entangled?

4 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. You can move items, energy and fluids instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cable runs.[1]

The pack ships Entangled 1.3.21 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Who it's for

If you build compact bases, run lots of machines, or are tired of cables everywhere, this one is for you. Entangled gives you two things: the Entangled Block, which absorbs the state of another block, and the Entangled Binder, which controls which blocks get bound together.[1]

How binding works

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder, then place the Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Limits you can configure

By default, Entangled works between dimensions and has no distance limit, because allowDimensional is true and maxDistance is -1. These are the mod's defaults. Nothing in the sources shows the pack changing them, so check your own config if something behaves differently.[1]

Pack makers can also block certain targets with the entangled:invalid_targets block tag.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified No quests or ATM Star path steps for Entangled were found in the sources, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. Based on the mod's description alone, you can use it whenever you have an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.

How do you get started with Entangled?

4 parts

Entangled lets you bind one block to another, so the Entangled Block acts as if it were the block it's linked to. You can move items, energy or fluids through it, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables. Getting started takes two crafts and a few clicks.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Entangled Block

The Block is the block that takes on the state of another block, so you make it first. In this pack the recipe is custom, added by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[1][3]

Step 2: Craft the Binder

The binder decides which blocks get linked together, so you need it to do anything with the block. This recipe is also added by the pack, and it's a different recipe from the block's.[1][3]

Step 3: Bind it

  1. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

The tooltips tell you what is happening. A bound block shows what it is bound to and where, including the dimension and coordinates. An unbound block says whether it can reach blocks in the same dimension only or other dimensions too, and whether there is a distance limit.[4]

Unbinding

  1. Select an empty slot on your hotbar.[1]
  2. Start crouching.[1]
  3. Right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The pack also has a shapeless crafting recipe that takes an Entangled Block and gives you an Entangled Block back.[3]

BlockMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: entangled:entangled_clear_nbt

Tip: The mod itself can limit how far away a target may be and whether binding across dimensions is allowed. If a binding won't work, check the block's tooltip first, because it shows whether a distance limit or a same-dimension restriction applies.[1][4]

How does Entangled work?

5 parts

Entangled lets you bind an Block to another block, and you can then interact with either one as if they were the same block. Items, energy, fluids or anything else the target supports can move instantly. You also get more than six sides to work with, and you can hide messy cables.[1]

Binding and unbinding

Binding takes an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder. The Entangled Block absorbs the state of whatever it is bound to, and the Binder decides which blocks get bound together.[1]

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The tooltips show what is going on. A bound Entangled Block lists the target block, its coordinates and its dimension. The Binder shows the same kind of info for the block you have selected. In some cases it only shows that it is linked to a block at certain coordinates in a dimension.[4]

Range and dimensions

Binding across dimensions works: select a block in another dimension with the Binder. Two config options control this. General.allowDimensional decides whether blocks can be bound between dimensions, and General.maxDistance sets the maximum binding range. The range only applies to blocks in the same dimension, and -1 means infinite.[1][5]

This pack leaves both at their defaults: dimensional binding is allowed and the range is unlimited. Changing either option later does not affect blocks that were already bound.[5]

The Entangled Block's tooltip tells you which rules apply. It says whether the block can be bound to blocks in the same dimension only or also in other dimensions, and whether there is a distance limit.[4]

Blocks you can't bind to

The block tag entangled:invalid_targets lists blocks that an Entangled Block cannot target. If you turn on General.useWhitelist, the tag becomes a whitelist, and Entangled Blocks can only bind to blocks in it. The pack has this set to false, so the tag works as a blacklist.[1][5]

Rendering options

An Entangled Block renders the block it is bound to. Two client-side options control the visuals, and both are enabled in the pack. Client.renderBlockHighlight highlights the bound block when you look at an Entangled Block. Client.rotateRenderedBlock makes the rendered block spin.[1][5]

Two more tags control rendering. Blocks in the entangled:render_blacklist block tag are not rendered inside Entangled Blocks. The same tag name also exists for block entity types, and the Entangled Block won't render a block entity whose type is in it.[1]

Crafting in this pack

The pack adds its own shaped recipe for the Entangled Block, built around a Quantum Entangloporter and unobtainium ingots. This is the recipe you need.[3]

The pack also adds a shaped recipe for Item, which uses a Quantum Entangloporter, an ender pearl and an unobtainium ingot.[3]

How do you progress through Entangled?

3 parts

In this pack the two main Entangled items are crafted with recipes the pack adds itself, so anything you've seen about the base mod's crafting doesn't apply here. There are two steps to work through: the single item and the block.[3]

Step 1: the Entangled Item

The Item is where you start. The pack adds its recipe through KubeJS as a shaped recipe.[3]

Step 2: the Entangled Block

The Block is the bigger step up. The pack also adds this shaped recipe through KubeJS, and it asks for more kinds of ingredients than the item recipe does, so gather everything before you start.[3]

There is also a shapeless recipe that comes from the mod itself, not from the pack. It takes an Block and gives you an Block back.[3]

How does Entangled work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, Entangled connects to other mods through two custom crafting recipes. Both were added by the pack, and each one needs items from other mods.[3]

Entangled Block

The pack's recipe for Block pulls in items from several other mods. The common thread in both Entangled recipes is the Quantum Entangloporter, so you will be visiting Mekanism for this one.[3]

Entangled Item

The pack's recipe for Item is a smaller one. It also uses the Quantum Entangloporter, and one of its inputs can be any item from the ender pearl tag.[3]

Tip: Both recipes accept any ingot from the unobtainium ingot tag, and the item recipe accepts any ender pearl from its tag. Whichever matching item you have on hand will work.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Entangled?

2 parts

In the quest text available for this section, no quest asks for an item from this mod. The chapters I could check are Applied Energistics 2, EvilCraft and the visible part of Draconic Evolution, and their tasks all use items from other mods.[6][7][8]

Quests that sound similar

A few quest names look like they might belong here, but they don't. "Entangled Chalice" quest in the EvilCraft chapter asks for Entangled Chalice, which is an EvilCraft item. It comes after "Rank 3: Even More Blood" quest in that chapter.[7]

"Quantum Network Bridge" quest in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter is about the AE2 Quantum Network Bridge and its Quantum Entangled Singularities, not this mod. The Draconic Evolution quest "Chaos-Entangled Quantum Energy Tunnel" quest asks for Chaos-Entangled Quantum Energy Tunnel, which is also not from this mod.[6][8]

What I can't see

The Draconic Evolution chapter has 140 quests, and most of their text isn't included here. If you want to be sure nothing in that chapter touches this mod, check the quest book itself.[8]

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Entangled has a small config file, and the pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you see below is also what the mod does out of the box.[5]

General options

  • General.allowDimensional is true. That means you can bind an entangled block to a block in a different dimension.[1][5]
  • General.maxDistance is -1, which means infinite range. The allowed range runs from -1 up to 2,147,483,647, and the limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension.[5]
  • General.useWhitelist is false. While it stays false, the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist of blocks you can't bind to. If you set it to true, entangled blocks can only be bound to blocks in that tag.[1][5]
Tip: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance won't affect entangled blocks you've already bound. It only applies to new bindings.[5]

What changed in Entangled between versions?

1 part

Entangled has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time. The mod list shows it was already included by version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Entangled 1.3.21.[2]

Version bumps across pack releases

  • All the Mods 10 2.28: Entangled updated from 1.3.20 to 1.3.20+a.[9]
  • All the Mods 10 6.2: Entangled updated from 1.3.20+a to 1.3.21, which is the version you get in 8.1.[2][10]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version numbers, not what changed inside Entangled in each update. No changelogs for the shipped jars are stored, so the specific fixes or features in 1.3.20+a and 1.3.21 are unverified.
