What is Entangled?

2 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. You can move items, energy, fluids or whatever else you like between them instantly. You can also get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables.[1]

This pack includes Entangled 1.3.21, and it has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

The two items

  • Entangled Block: this block absorbs the state of another block.[1]
  • Entangled Binder: this lets you control which blocks get bound together.[1]

Binding and unbinding

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching, then right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Binding works across dimensions too: just select a block in another dimension with the Entangled Binder. The mod also has options to turn cross-dimension binding off and to set a maximum distance between an entangled block and its target. The sources here do not show whether this pack changes any of those mod defaults.[1]

How do you get started with Entangled?

5 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy or fluids instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables. To get started you only need two things: the block and the tool that binds it.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Entangled Block

The Block is the block that absorbs the state of another block. It is the thing you place in your base, so make it first.[1]

The pack also has a separate shapeless recipe with the id entangled_clear_nbt that gives you an Entangled Block.[3]

Step 2: Craft the Entangled Binder

The Entangled Binder (Item) is what lets you control which blocks get bound together. Without it, your Entangled Block has nothing to link to.[1][3]

Step 3: Bind your blocks

  1. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-Click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-Click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

Once it is bound, the tooltip tells you which block it is linked to and where it is, including the dimension and coordinates.[4]

Unbinding

  1. Select an empty slot on your hotbar.[1]
  2. Start crouching.[1]
  3. Right-Click the Entangled Block.[1]

What this pack's config allows

The pack leaves the common config at the mod's default values, so binding is very open. General.allowDimensional is true, so you can bind blocks between different dimensions. General.maxDistance is -1, which means no distance limit for blocks in the same dimension.[5]

General.useWhitelist is false, so the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist: blocks in that tag cannot be targeted.[1][5]

Tip: If the block highlight or the spinning block inside the Entangled Block bothers you, both are client-side options: Client.renderBlockHighlight and Client.rotateRenderedBlock. Both are true in this pack.[1][5]

How does Entangled work?

4 parts

Entangled is a small mod with one big trick: it lets you bind a block to another block, and then you interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means items, energy and fluids can be transferred instantly. You also get more than six sides to work with, or you can hide messy cables.[1]

There are only two things to craft: the Block (the block that takes on the state of another) and the Item (the Entangled Binder, which controls what gets bound to what).[1][3]

Binding and unbinding

Binding is done in two clicks with the Entangled Binder: first on the block you want to copy, then on your Entangled Block. Here are the steps.[1]

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

If you forget what something is linked to, the mod tells you. A bound Entangled Block shows the block it is bound to, plus its dimension and coordinates. The Binder shows the same kind of link info for the target it holds. If the target is not known, it shows only a block, dimension and coordinates. The Entangled Block also has a Jade entry.[4]

When you break an Entangled Block, it drops itself as an item, as long as it survives an explosion.[6]

Range and dimensions in this pack

Two options decide how far apart bound blocks can be. In this pack, General.allowDimensional is true, so Entangled Blocks can be bound between different dimensions. Just select a block in another dimension with the Binder. General.maxDistance is -1, which means unlimited range. The distance limit only affects blocks in the same dimension.[1][5]

Both values match the mod's defaults, so the pack has not changed them. If a server owner changes either one, blocks that are already bound are not affected. The allowed range for the distance is -1 up to 2,147,483,647.[5]

The tooltip on an Entangled Block tells you what your settings allow. With this pack's settings it reads that the block can be bound to other blocks. With a distance limit it would instead mention the maximum number of blocks away, and with dimensions turned off it would say same dimension only.[4][5]

What can be targeted

The mod has a block tag, entangled:invalid_targets, that lists blocks an Entangled Block cannot target. The tag ships empty in the mod's jar. General.useWhitelist can flip the tag's meaning: if it were true, Entangled Blocks could only bind to blocks in the tag. In this pack it is false, which is the default, so the tag acts as a blacklist.[1][5][7]

Rendering

An Entangled Block shows a copy of the block it is bound to. Two client-side options control the visuals, and both are true in this pack, which is the default. Client.renderBlockHighlight highlights the bound block when you look at an Entangled Block. Client.rotateRenderedBlock makes the block shown inside the Entangled Block rotate.[1][5]

There are also render blacklists. A block tag, entangled:render_blacklist, stops blocks in it from being rendered inside Entangled Blocks, and it ships empty. A block entity type tag of the same name stops the matching block entities from rendering. It lists tconstruct:foundry and tconstruct:smeltery as optional entries.[1][8][9]

How do you progress through Entangled?

2 parts

The sources for this pack show no tier ladder for Entangled. What they do show is a small set of crafting recipes, so this section covers those and nothing more.[3]

What you can craft

The pack dump lists recipes for the Block and the Item. Each one is marked as a mod recipe, so nothing here shows the pack changing them. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[3]

Breaking a placed block

When you break a placed Block, its loot table drops the block itself. That drop has the standard survives-explosion condition attached.[6]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter or quest for this mod, so where it sits in the pack's questing progression is not confirmed in this section.

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Entangled has a small config file, and the pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you see below is also what the mod does out of the box.[10]

General options

  • General.allowDimensional is true. That means you can bind an entangled block to a block in a different dimension.[1][10]
  • General.maxDistance is -1, which means infinite range. The allowed range runs from -1 up to 2,147,483,647, and the limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension.[10]
  • General.useWhitelist is false. While it stays false, the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist of blocks you can't bind to. If you set it to true, entangled blocks can only be bound to blocks in that tag.[1][10]
Tip: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance won't affect entangled blocks you've already bound. It only applies to new bindings.[10]

Client options

What changed in Entangled between versions?

1 part

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Entangled 1.3.21, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 26.1. The mod was already in the pack by FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

Mod releases

  • 1.3.21: the changelog is headed "Update to Minecraft 26.1". The only listed change is the addition of Japanese translations.[11]
  • 1.3.20: the initial release of Entangled for Minecraft 1.21.11.[11]

The changelog lists no gameplay changes for 1.3.21, so nothing about how the mod plays changed in that release.[11]

Unverified The pack changelogs for FTB Evolution 2 are not among the sources here, so any change they made to Entangled (config values, recipes or balance) is not shown in this section.
