Entangled is a mod in Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2, where it is version 1.3.21. Entangled allows you to 'entangle' two blocks together! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Entangled?

2 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. You can move items, energy, fluids or whatever else you like between them instantly. That means you can get more than six sides to work with, or hide a messy tangle of cables.[1]

The mod adds two things. The Entangled Block absorbs the state of another block, and the Entangled Binder lets you control which blocks get bound together. The pack ships Entangled 1.3.21 for Minecraft 1.20.4.[1][2]

How binding works

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder, then place the Entangled Block down.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book covers Entangled in the chapter "Useful mods and Items", which is chapter 3 of 44 and holds 37 quests. The book gives the Entangled quest no title of its own, so it shows up under the item it asks for: a quest in "Useful mods and Items". Its tasks are Block and Item.[3]

The sources give the chapter but not the quest's group or its exact spot on the chapter map, so I can't tell you which quests sit right before or after it.[3]

How do you get started with Entangled?

4 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together, so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy or fluids between them instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables. You only need two things to get started.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Entangled Block

Start with Block. This is the block that takes on the state of whatever you bind it to. The pack adds its own crafting recipe for it, so don't rely on what you may remember from the mod elsewhere. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[1][4]

Step 2: Craft the second item

Next comes Item. The mod's own page describes a binder tool that controls which blocks get bound together, and you need it to do the actual linking. This one uses the mod's own recipe, which the pack leaves as it is:[1][4]

The pack's quest book covers both items in the quest a quest in "Useful mods and Items", in the chapter "Useful mods and Items" (chapter 3 of 44).[3]

Step 3: Bind your blocks

  1. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to, using the binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the binder.[1]

After that, looking at the Entangled Block shows what it is bound to, and the tooltip text tells you whether it can reach other dimensions.[5][6]

Tip: To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

What the pack's config allows

In this pack, General.allowDimensional is true, so you can bind blocks across dimensions. General.maxDistance is -1, which means no range limit in the same dimension. General.useWhitelist is false, so the invalid targets tag works as a blacklist. All three match the mod's defaults. Bindings you have already made are not affected if these values change later.[6]

If the spinning block inside the Entangled Block or the highlight on the bound block bothers you, those are client-side settings: Client.rotateRenderedBlock and Client.renderBlockHighlight. Both are on in the pack.[6]

How does Entangled work?

5 parts

Entangled is a simple but very flexible mod. It lets you bind one block to another so you can interact with either as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy or fluids instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cabling.[1]

The items

The Block is the block that absorbs the state of another block. The Entangled Binder, Item, is the tool that decides which blocks get bound together.[1]

The binder uses the mod's own recipe, shown below.[4]

The Entangled Block is different in this pack. The pack adds its own shaped recipes for it, and the second one is the same ingredients in a rearranged layout.[4][7]

Binding and unbinding

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching, then right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The mod shows you what is going on in its info text. The binder shows the block it is linked to, along with the dimension and coordinates. A bound Entangled Block shows the same details for its target. A Jade component is also provided for Entangled Blocks.[5]

Range and dimensions

Binding across dimensions works: select a block in a different dimension with the binder. In this pack it is enabled through General.allowDimensional, which is set to true.[1][6]

General.maxDistance sets the maximum binding range, and it only affects blocks in the same dimension. The pack leaves it at -1, which means infinite range. The accepted values run from -1 up to 2,147,483,647. Changing this option, or the dimensional one, does not affect blocks that are already bound.[6]

The Entangled Block's info text describes the current rules. With dimensional binding on and no range limit, it says the block can be bound to other blocks. If a range limit is set, it shows that distance instead.[5][6]

Blocking certain targets

The block tag entangled:invalid_targets lists blocks that an Entangled Block cannot target. If General.useWhitelist is switched on, that same tag becomes a whitelist and Entangled Blocks can only bind to blocks inside it. The pack has this set to false, so the tag works as a blacklist.[1][6]

Tip: If a block refuses to bind, check whether it is in the entangled:invalid_targets tag.[1]

Visual options

Some client-side options control how bound blocks look. Client.renderBlockHighlight highlights the bound block when you look at an Entangled Block. Client.rotateRenderedBlock makes the block rendered inside an Entangled Block rotate. Both are true in this pack.[1][6]

Additional tags control rendering. Blocks in the entangled:render_blacklist block tag are not rendered inside Entangled Blocks. Block entities whose type is in the entangled:render_blacklist block entity type tag are also not rendered.[1]

How do you progress through Entangled?

3 parts

The sources for this pack show two Entangled items, Block and Item, so there is no tier breakdown to walk through. Progression here is simply knowing how to craft each one.[3][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest book has one quest for this mod, a quest in "Useful mods and Items". It asks you to obtain both Block and Item. You'll find it in the "Useful mods and Items" chapter, which is chapter 3 of 44 and holds 37 quests.[3]

Crafting the block

The recipes for Block are added by the pack itself, so they are the pack's own recipes. There are two of them, and each is a shaped crafting recipe with a different layout. Either one gives you the block, and the site renders both below.[4][7]

How does Entangled work with other mods?

1 part

Entangled has one clear link to other mods in this pack, and it is how you get the main block. The pack adds its own crafting recipe for Block. It brings in Allthemodium Ingot from Allthemodium, and the vanilla side is Ender Pearl, Obsidian and Nether Star. The recipe block below shows the exact layout and amounts.[4]

The pack registers the same recipe a second time under the id minecraft:kjs/entangled_block_2. It has identical ingredients and the same result, so it is not a separate option.[4]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book has a quest, a quest in "Useful mods and Items", in the chapter "Useful mods and Items". It asks you to obtain both Block and Item.[3]

The same chapter also has quests for the a quest in "Useful mods and Items", "Flux Network" quest and "Compact Machines" quest.[3]

Which Project Infinity 0.1 quests use Entangled?

1 part

In the pack's quest book, Entangled appears in the chapter "Useful mods and Items". It's a grab bag of quests for utility mods and items, so Entangled sits alongside things like the Dimensional Chest, the Trash Cans and the Compasses.[3]

The Entangled quest

The quest is a quest in "Useful mods and Items". The book gives it no title of its own, so it's just named after the item it asks for. Its tasks are the items Block and Item.[3]

In the chapter's listing it comes right after a quest in "Useful mods and Items" and right before "The Trash Cans" quest. The book gives the quest no description text, only the item tasks.[3]

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Entangled has a small config file, and the pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you see below is also what the mod does out of the box.[8]

General options

  • General.allowDimensional is true. That means you can bind an entangled block to a block in a different dimension.[1][8]
  • General.maxDistance is -1, which means infinite range. The allowed range runs from -1 up to 2,147,483,647, and the limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension.[8]
  • General.useWhitelist is false. While it stays false, the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist of blocks you can't bind to. If you set it to true, entangled blocks can only be bound to blocks in that tag.[1][8]
Tip: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance won't affect entangled blocks you've already bound. It only applies to new bindings.[8]

Client options

What changed in Entangled between versions?

3 parts

This pack ships Entangled 1.3.21, the newest release in the mod's changelog. It has been in the pack since Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.45.4 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelog.[2][9]

Latest changes (1.3.19 to 1.3.21)

  • 1.3.21: Fixed a cached block entity not being invalidated when new entangled block data arrived from the server. Japanese translations were also added.[9]
  • 1.3.20: Fixed WAILA, Jade and The One Probe showing air when the bound block is far away.[9]
  • 1.3.19: Added a config option that lets you whitelist blocks instead of blacklisting them. Russian and Turkish translations were added, and the Simplified Chinese translations were updated.[9]

Compatibility and safety changes (1.3.16 to 1.3.18)

  • 1.3.18: Removed the blacklist entries for Applied Energistics and Refined Storage blocks. Entangled blocks also stopped passing on networking capabilities from Refined Storage. Already bound entangled block items that could not be placed were fixed.[9]
  • 1.3.17: Added a tag for invalid target blocks and a tag for blocks and block entities that should not be rendered. Applied Energistics and Refined Storage blocks were blacklisted by default to avoid buggy behaviour (1.3.18 later removed those entries). Waila/Jade message coloring was improved. Some ways to bypass the maxDistance and allowDimensional config options were fixed.[9]
  • 1.3.16: Fixed some blocks not visually connecting to the entangled block, and a rare deadlock when Supplementaries is installed.[9]

Early releases (1.3.14 and 1.3.15)

Entangled 1.3.14 was the initial release for Minecraft 1.20. Version 1.3.15 followed it, and errors from rendering blocks inside entangled blocks are now reported instead of crashing the game. Simplified Chinese translations were added in the same release.[9]
