What is Entangled?

3 parts

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. That means you can move items, energy, fluids or whatever else you like between them instantly. You can also get more than six usable sides on a block, or hide messy cables.[1]

The pack includes Entangled 1.3.21. If you build logistics setups, tidy bases or long-distance transfers, this is the mod for you.[1][2]

The two items

  • The Entangled Block (Block) absorbs the state of another block.[1]
  • The Entangled Binder controls which blocks get bound together.[1]

Binding in a nutshell

  1. Place down your Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Binding works across dimensions too. Just select a block in another dimension with the Binder.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's logistics quest chapter has a quest "Entangled Blocks" quest that asks for Block and Item. That puts Entangled in the pack's transport and logistics toolkit.[3]

Tip: The mod has an option that limits how far apart a block and its target can be, and another that turns off cross-dimension binding. If a bind won't work, check these first. In the mod itself, distance is unlimited and cross-dimension binding is allowed by default.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show whether the pack changes any Entangled config values or recipes, so the defaults above may not match this pack. The in-pack crafting recipes for the Entangled Block and Binder also aren't confirmed here.

How do you get started with Entangled?

3 parts

Entangled lets you link two blocks so you can use either one as if it were the other. That means you can move items, energy or fluids instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cables. Getting started takes only two crafts.[1]

What to make first

You need an Block and an Item, the Entangled Binder. The block is the one that takes on the state of another block. The binder is the tool that decides which blocks get linked. The pack's quest "Entangled Blocks" quest in the logistics chapter asks for both, so it's a handy checklist.[1][3][4][5]

Start with the Entangled Block, because it's the piece you place in your base.[1]

Binding your first block

  1. Place your Entangled Block where you want it.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to link to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the same binder.[1]

After that, the Entangled Block acts as the block you picked. The tooltips are useful here. A bound block shows what it's linked to and where, and the binder shows its target too.[1][5]

Tip: Check the tooltip on your Entangled Block before you build around it. It tells you whether it can be bound only within the same dimension or across dimensions, and whether there is a distance limit.[5]

Unbinding and resetting

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

The pack also has a shapeless recipe that takes an Entangled Block and gives you an Entangled Block back. Going by its id, it is meant to clear stored data. The sources don't describe exactly what it resets.[4]

BlockMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: entangled:entangled_clear_nbt

Unverified The mod's own page lists options such as allowDimensional (true by default) and maxDistance (-1, meaning no limit, by default). The sources don't show whether this pack changes them, so rely on the in-game tooltip for the real limits.

How does Entangled work?

5 parts

Entangled is a simple idea with a lot of uses. You bind an Block to another block, and it absorbs the state of that block. You can then interact with either one as if they were the same block. The project page says this lets you move items, energy, fluids or whatever you like instantly. It also gives you more than six sides to work with, and you can use it to hide messy cables.[1]

Crafting the pieces

You need two things: the Entangled Block and the binder, which decides what gets bound to what. Here is the in-pack recipe for the block:[1][4]

The pack also has a shapeless recipe that takes one Entangled Block and gives you one Entangled Block back.[4]

BlockMod recipe

Recipe id: entangled:entangled_clear_nbt

Shapeless: one Entangled Block in, one out.

Binding and unbinding

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and a binder.[1]
  2. Place your Entangled Block down.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Both the block and the binder show you what they are linked to. The text lists the target block, its coordinates and the dimension it is in. If the binder only knows that it is linked to a block, it shows the coordinates and the dimension without the block name.[5]

Range and dimensions in this pack

Binding across dimensions works: select a block in another dimension with the binder. In this pack General.allowDimensional is true, so you can bind between dimensions.[1][6]

General.maxDistance is set to -1, which means unlimited range. It only affects blocks in the same dimension. Changing it or the dimension option does not affect blocks that are already bound.[6]

The tooltip on an Entangled Block tells you which limits apply. With unlimited range and dimensions allowed, it says it can be bound to other blocks. If a range were set, it would instead say how many blocks away you can bind, and whether other dimensions are allowed.[5][6]

What can't be bound

The block tag entangled:invalid_targets lists blocks that an Entangled Block cannot target. The option General.useWhitelist can turn that tag around so that it works as a whitelist, and then you can only bind to blocks in the tag. In this pack it is false, so the tag is a normal blacklist.[1][6]

Rendering

An Entangled Block shows a rendered copy of the block it is bound to. Two tags named entangled:render_blacklist control what is shown: one is a block tag, the other a block entity type tag. Anything in them is not rendered inside Entangled Blocks.[1]

The pack adds one entry to both tags: dysoncubeproject:em_railejector_controller. It is marked as not required, and the tags are not replaced, so the mod's own entries stay.[7][8]

Two client-side options are on in this pack. Client.renderBlockHighlight highlights the bound block when you look at an Entangled Block. Client.rotateRenderedBlock makes the rendered block inside spin.[1][6]

How do you progress through Entangled?

3 parts

Entangled has no tier ladder in this pack. The sources show the Block and the Item, each made with a shaped crafting recipe, plus a shapeless recipe for the block. Progression here means getting to the point where you can craft them.[4]

Quest path

The quest book places this mod in the logistics chapter with the quest "Entangled Blocks" quest. It has no title in the quest file. Its tasks are the Block and the Item.[3]

Crafting

The block recipe is shaped and uses tag ingredients, so any matching variant works. Here it is as the pack defines it.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Entangled?

In this pack's quest book, Entangled appears only in the "logistics" chapter, through a quest that has no title.[3]

The quest is "Entangled Blocks" quest. Its tasks ask you to hand in Block and Item, both from Entangled.[3]

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Entangled has a small config file, and the pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you see below is also what the mod does out of the box.[9]

General options

  • General.allowDimensional is true. That means you can bind an entangled block to a block in a different dimension.[1][9]
  • General.maxDistance is -1, which means infinite range. The allowed range runs from -1 up to 2,147,483,647, and the limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension.[9]
  • General.useWhitelist is false. While it stays false, the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist of blocks you can't bind to. If you set it to true, entangled blocks can only be bound to blocks in that tag.[1][9]
Tip: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance won't affect entangled blocks you've already bound. It only applies to new bindings.[9]

Client options

What changed in Entangled between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Entangled 1.3.21, built for Minecraft 1.21 on NeoForge. The mod was already in the pack by version 1.0.1 or earlier. The changelogs I have cover the mod's own releases, not pack-specific changes, so everything below comes from the mod's changelog.[2]

Release by release

  • 1.3.21 (the version in your pack): added Japanese translations, and fixed a cached block entity not being invalidated when new entangled block data arrived from the server.[10]
  • 1.3.20a: the entangled block now automatically works with modded capabilities.[10][11]
  • 1.3.20: fixed WAILA, Jade and The One Probe showing air when the bound block is far away.[10][11]
  • 1.3.19a: fixed the entangled block querying capabilities from its own dimension instead of the bound block's dimension.[10][11]
  • 1.3.19: added a config option to allow whitelisting blocks rather than blacklisting. Also added Russian and Turkish translations, updated Simplified Chinese translations, and fixed a crash when breaking entangled blocks bound to each other.[10][11]
  • 1.3.18a: fixed getting disconnected when joining a LAN world.[10][11]
  • 1.3.18: the initial release of Entangled for Minecraft 1.21.[10][11]
Tip: If you ran into odd behaviour with bound blocks in other dimensions, the 1.3.19a and 1.3.20a fixes are the ones that matter most. Both are already included in the version this pack uses.[2][10][11]
