What is Entangled?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Entangled lets you bind two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. You can move items, energy and fluids instantly, get more than six sides to work with, or hide messy cable runs.[1]

The pack ships Entangled 1.3.21 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Who it's for

If you build compact bases, run lots of machines, or are tired of cables everywhere, this one is for you. Entangled gives you two things: the Entangled Block, which absorbs the state of another block, and the Entangled Binder, which controls which blocks get bound together.[1]

How binding works

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder, then place the Entangled Block.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to bind to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder.[1]

To unbind, select an empty hotbar slot, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Limits you can configure

By default, Entangled works between dimensions and has no distance limit, because allowDimensional is true and maxDistance is -1. These are the mod's defaults. Nothing in the sources shows the pack changing them, so check your own config if something behaves differently.[1]

Pack makers can also block certain targets with the entangled:invalid_targets block tag.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified No quests or ATM Star path steps for Entangled were found in the sources, so where it fits in the pack's progression is unconfirmed. Based on the mod's description alone, you can use it whenever you have an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.

How do you get started with Entangled?

3 parts

Entangled lets you link two blocks together so you can interact with either one as if it were the same block. That means moving items, energy or fluids instantly, getting more than six sides to work with on a machine, or just hiding your messy cables behind a tidy block somewhere else.[1]

Getting started only takes two items: the Entangled Block, which absorbs the state of whatever you link it to, and the Entangled Binder, which you use to choose what it links to. You need both before anything works, so plan to make them together.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Entangled Binder

The Item is your linking tool. In All the Mods 10 this is a custom recipe added by the pack, so don't rely on the recipe from the mod's own page or older guides. Use the one below instead.[1][3]

Step 2: Craft the Entangled Block

The Block is the part that does the real work. The pack also replaced this recipe with its own, and it's a big one, so check the exact recipe below before you start collecting materials.[3]

Step 3: Bind it

  1. Place your Entangled Block wherever you want the connection point to be.[1]
  2. Right-click the block you want to link to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  3. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder to finish the link.[1]

Once it's bound, the Entangled Block's tooltip shows what it's linked to and where. The tooltip also tells you whether the block can reach other dimensions and whether it has a distance limit, so hover over it to see how it behaves in your game.[4]

Tip: Linked the wrong thing? Select an empty slot on your hotbar, crouch, and right-click the Entangled Block to unbind it.[1]

There's also a shapeless recipe that takes an Entangled Block and gives you back an Entangled Block. Going by its recipe id, it clears the block's stored data so you can start fresh.[3]

How does Entangled work?

5 parts

Entangled is all about one idea: you take two blocks and bind them together so you can interact with either one as if they were the same block. There are no machines to power and no multiblocks to build. Everything revolves around the Block and a binder tool that tells it what to link to.[1]

What an Entangled Block actually does

Once it's bound, an Entangled Block absorbs the state of its target. Anything you do to the Entangled Block happens to the block it's linked to. That makes it a neat logistics tool. You can move items, energy, fluids or whatever else instantly without running a single pipe.[1]

  • Instant transfer: hook your pipes, cables or conveyors into the Entangled Block and they're effectively connected to the target block.[1]
  • More than six sides: a block normally only has six faces, but you can bind extra Entangled Blocks to the same target to get more connection points.[1]
  • Tidy bases: put the real machine somewhere hidden and use an Entangled Block as its front end, so the messy cables stay out of sight.[1]

Binding and unbinding

You use the binder to choose what gets linked. Here's the full process for binding.[1][4]

  1. Craft an Entangled Block and an Entangled Binder.[1]
  2. Place your Entangled Block down.[1]
  3. Right-click the block you want to link to with the Entangled Binder.[1]
  4. Right-click your Entangled Block with the Entangled Binder to finish the link.[1]

To unbind an Entangled Block, select an empty hotbar slot, start crouching, and right-click the Entangled Block.[1]

Tip: Check the tooltips if you lose track of your links. The binder shows which block it's linked to, along with that block's dimension and coordinates. A bound Entangled Block shows the same details for its target.[4]

Range and dimensions in All the Mods 10

In this pack, General.allowDimensional is set to true. That means you can bind an Entangled Block to a block in a completely different dimension. To do it, select the target in the other dimension with the binder, just like a normal link.[1][5]

Range is unlimited too. General.maxDistance is set to -1 in this pack, which means infinite range. That setting only applies to links within the same dimension. Both of these values match the mod's defaults, so the pack hasn't changed them.[5]

Some blocks can't be targeted at all. The block tag entangled:invalid_targets lists blocks an Entangled Block can't bind to. In this pack, General.useWhitelist is false, so that tag works as a blacklist. If you set it to true, the tag becomes a whitelist and you could only bind to blocks inside it.[1][5]

Watch out: If you change the dimension or distance settings in your own copy of the pack, Entangled Blocks that are already bound won't be affected. The new rules only apply to blocks you bind afterward.[5]

Visual options

Two client-side settings control how bound blocks look, and both are true in this pack. With Client.renderBlockHighlight on, looking at an Entangled Block highlights the block it's bound to, which makes finding hidden targets easy. Client.rotateRenderedBlock makes the block rendered inside the Entangled Block spin.[5]

Some blocks won't be drawn inside an Entangled Block at all. The mod has entangled:render_blacklist tags for both blocks and block entity types. Anything in those tags isn't rendered inside Entangled Blocks. This only affects the visuals.[1]

Crafting in this pack

All the Mods 10 replaces the mod's own recipes with custom shaped recipes for both Block and Item. Expect them to be much more expensive than in a standalone install, so treat Entangled Blocks as a late-game convenience.[3]

How do you progress through Entangled?

2 parts

Entangled doesn't have a tiered progression in this pack. You're working with two things: the Block and the Item. Neither has an upgraded version or tier variant in the pack's recipes, so once you can craft them, you've reached the top of this mod.[3]

The pack's custom recipes

This pack replaces how you get into the mod. Both the Entangled Block and the Entangled Item use recipes added by the pack, and those are the only recipes that craft them from scratch. Don't trust a recipe from a video or wiki for another pack. Check the exact in-pack recipes below instead.[3]

Resetting a block

The mod also has a shapeless recipe that takes an Block and gives back an Block. Its recipe id says it clears the block's NBT data, so use it when you want a fresh block instead of crafting a new one.[3]

Unverified Exactly which stored data the reset recipe removes (for example, the block's link to another location) isn't confirmed by the pack sources, so test it on a spare block before resetting one you rely on.

How does Entangled work with other mods?

2 parts

Entangled plays nicely with pretty much any other mod's blocks. Once you bind an Block to a target, you can interact with it as if it were the target block. That means you can move items, energy, fluids or anything else through it instantly, get more than six sides to connect to, or just hide your messy cables.[1]

The big integration in this pack is in the crafting. The pack adds its own recipes for both the Block and the Item, and both pull in materials from several other mods. So instead of being a cheap early convenience, Entangled becomes something you work towards through other mods' progression.[3]

Crafting the Entangled Block

The pack's Entangled Block recipe uses items from a whole range of mods, so you'll want those mods' production up and running before you can make one. Check the recipe below for the exact layout.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show which cross-dimension or distance settings this pack uses for Entangled, so test before you rely on binding blocks across dimensions or over long distances.

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Entangled?

I went through the quest chapters I have for this pack (Applied Energistics 2, EvilCraft and Draconic Evolution), and none of the quests shown asks you to craft, place or collect an item from this mod. So I can't point you to a chapter or an order of quests for it. For Draconic Evolution, 120 of its 140 quests aren't shown here, so check that chapter in the quest book yourself.[6][7][8]

A few quests have "entangled" in the name, and they are easy to mix up with this mod. They all belong to other mods. "Entangled Chalice" quest is EvilCraft's Entangled Chalice. "Quantum Network Bridge" quest in Applied Energistics 2 uses the Quantum Entangled Singularity. "Chaos-Entangled Quantum Energy Tunnel" quest in Draconic Evolution asks for the Chaos-Entangled Quantum Energy Tunnel.[6][7][8]

Which Entangled config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Entangled has a small config file, and the pack leaves every option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you see below is also what the mod does out of the box.[9]

General options

  • General.allowDimensional is true. That means you can bind an entangled block to a block in a different dimension.[1][9]
  • General.maxDistance is -1, which means infinite range. The allowed range runs from -1 up to 2,147,483,647, and the limit only applies to blocks in the same dimension.[9]
  • General.useWhitelist is false. While it stays false, the entangled:invalid_targets tag works as a blacklist of blocks you can't bind to. If you set it to true, entangled blocks can only be bound to blocks in that tag.[1][9]
Tip: Changing allowDimensional or maxDistance won't affect entangled blocks you've already bound. It only applies to new bindings.[9]

What changed in Entangled between versions?

1 part

Entangled has been part of All the Mods 10 since early in the pack's life. It was already included in All the Mods 10 2.3 or earlier, and the pack's 5.0 release ships version 1.3.20+a of the mod.[10]

Pack changelog entries

  • All the Mods 10 2.28: Entangled was updated from 1.3.20 to 1.3.20+a. This is the version you get in 5.0.[10][11]

The file shipped in 5.0 is entangled-1.3.20a-neoforge-mc1.21.jar, so it is built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[10]

Unverified No changelogs are stored for the shipped Entangled jars, so what actually changed between 1.3.20 and 1.3.20+a is unverified. Any other mod-side changes in earlier pack releases are unverified too.
