What is Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Chipped is a building mod that gives you a huge range of decorative block variants. The project page advertises over 11,000 unique building blocks, from stained glass variations to concrete, prismarine and gilded blackstone. The textures are hand-made in the vanilla style, and many of them are connected textures powered by Athena.[1]

If you've ever used Chisel, you'll get the idea straight away. Chipped is inspired by it and is built for anyone who wants more variety in their builds, whether that's a castle, a nether fortress or a plain dirt house.[1]

How you use it

You start by crafting one of the seven tables, which turn various vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. The tables all look different but work the same way, so pick whichever suits your build, or make a few different ones and spread them around your base.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Chipped 4.0.2, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Chipped fits in the pack's progression, and they don't show any recipe changes. Check the recipes in-game before you plan around them. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Chipped?

2 parts

Chipped is a building mod that adds over 11,000 unique building blocks, many with connected textures. To get going, you craft one of its seven tables, which let you change vanilla blocks into their chipped variants.[1]

All the tables look different but work the same, so pick whichever fits your build best. You can also make a few and spread them around your base.[1]

Step 1: Make a table

The pack changed the recipes for four of the tables, so don't trust your memory of the mod's defaults. These are the in-pack recipes for the Mason Table, Carpenters Table, Glassblower and Tinkering Table.[3]

How does Chipped work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.38 guide

Chipped is a building mod, so its core mechanic is simple: you turn vanilla blocks into decorative Chipped variants. There are no power, fluid or multiblock systems to learn here. The project page advertises over 11,000 unique building blocks, all with hand-made vanilla-style textures and many with connected textures.[1]

The seven workbenches

Everything starts with the workbenches. You craft one of the seven tables, then use it to change various vanilla blocks into their Chipped variants. They all look different but work the same way, so pick whichever fits your build best, or make a few and spread them around your base.[1]

Watch out: Heads up: the pack changed the recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Mason Table and Tinkering Table, so they may not match a video or guide for standalone Chipped. The Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench and Loom Table use the mod's own recipes. Always check the in-pack recipes below.[4]

The tools

Chipped also adds six tools, each crafted with a shapeless recipe: Chisel, Saw, Needles, Multimeter, Watering Can and Alchemy Book. Each one's recipe is tied to one of the workbenches, so you'll want the matching table first.[4]

Watch out: The pack changed the recipes for the Chisel, Saw and Multimeter. The Needles, Watering Can and Alchemy Book keep the mod's own recipes.[4]

Unverified What each tool does in-game (for example, whether it lets you convert blocks without standing at a table) isn't confirmed by the available sources.

Reinforced and special blocks

Beyond the regular variants, Chipped has reinforced versions of many blocks, such as Reinforced Iron Block-style metal blocks, reinforced concrete in every colour, reinforced logs, crates, froglights and waxed copper. It also includes blocks like Semi Spongy Nether Wart Block.[5]

Unverified How the reinforced blocks are obtained and whether they behave differently from normal blocks isn't confirmed by the available sources. Automation of Chipped conversions, for example with other mods' machines, is also unverified.

How do you progress through Chipped?

3 parts

Chipped has no real tier ladder in this pack. Every workstation is crafted from a vanilla crafting table plus a few extra parts, so you can build them in whatever order suits your base. What you do need to know is which recipes the pack changed from the mod's own, and that is what this section covers.[3]

Workstations with pack-changed recipes

The Mason Table, Carpenters Table, Glassblower and Tinkering Table all have recipes the pack changed. Check the recipes below rather than relying on what you remember from the standalone mod.[3]

Tools from each station

Most stations also lead to a companion item, crafted shapelessly from the station itself. The Chisel and Saw are the ones the pack changed, so they are the ones to double-check.[3]

The rest keep the mod's recipes: the Needles go with the Loom Table, the Watering Can with the Botanist Workbench, the Multimeter with the Tinkering Table, and the Alchemy Book with the Alchemy Bench. The Glassblower has no companion item in these recipes.[3]

Tip: Since every station starts from a crafting table, you can pick the one you need first. All of the pack-changed recipes ask for iron ingots, so get some iron smelted before you plan a build around Chipped.[3]

How does Chipped work with other mods?

1 part

In this pack, Chipped connects to Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage through crafting. Both have a Chipped upgrade for each of Chipped's seven tables. The recipe dump shows no other recipes that mix Chipped items with another mod's items, and the pack has no quests that involve Chipped.[1][3]

Table upgrades for backpacks and storage

Each upgrade is built around the matching Chipped table. The backpack versions use the Sophisticated Backpacks Upgrade Base and the storage versions use the Sophisticated Storage one. The dump marks these as the mods' own recipes, not pack-specific changes.[3]

Here is one example for each mod. The rest follow the same pattern with a different table.[3]

Tip: The Chipped table itself is part of each recipe, so craft the table first. Then you can make the backpack upgrade, the storage upgrade, or both.[3]

Unverified The recipe dump doesn't say what the upgrades do once installed, so check them in-game before building around them.

What changed in Chipped between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 0.53 ships Chipped 4.0.1. The mod has been in the pack since 0.32 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[6]

Chipped 4.0.0 and 4.0.1

The mod's own changelogs for 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 both list the same two changes, both under 1.21:[7][8]

  • Trapdoors were added to the wooden trapdoors tag (#314).[7][8]
  • Mobs could no longer spawn on glass (#290).[7][8]

The 4.0.1 changelog repeats the 4.0.0 entries word for word, so the sources don't show what is different between the two builds.[7][8]

Unverified No All the Mods 10 changelog entries for Chipped were available, so any pack-specific changes to the mod's recipes or values across releases are unconfirmed.
