What is Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Chipped is a building mod that expands the variety of blocks you can use. It offers over 11,000 unique building blocks, from stained glass variations to concrete, prismarine and even gilded blackstone. The textures are hand-made in the vanilla style, and many of them are connected textures. This pack includes Chipped 4.0.2 for NeoForge 1.21.1.[1][2]

If you know the Chisel mod, you already get the idea, because Chipped was inspired by it. The pack's quest points out that Chipped does things its own way: instead of a single tool, you go to a station to change blocks.[1][3]

How it works

There are 7 different stations, and each one changes a different group of blocks. All of them look different but work the same way, so you can pick whichever one fits your build best.[1][3]

6 of those stations can be turned into a handheld item, so you don't have to walk back to the table every time. The quest also mentions Backpack Upgrades for them.[3]

Who it's for and where it fits

Chipped is for builders: castles, nether fortresses, houses and anything else where you want more block variety than vanilla gives you.[1]

In this pack it has its own quest, "Chipped" quest, in the Building Tips chapter. It comes after the Changing Blocks quest. The quest accepts any one of the Chipped items, including the stations, Chisel, Saw and Needles.[3]

How do you get started with Chipped?

2 parts

Chipped is a building mod with over 11,000 unique building blocks, and getting started is simple: you craft one of its seven tables. The tables look different but work the same way, so pick whichever fits your build best, or make a few and spread them around your base.[1]

The pack's quest "Chipped" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after Changing Blocks. It says Chipped is similar to Chisels Mods because it changes the designs of blocks, but it uses stations you go to instead. Each of the seven stations changes different blocks.[4]

Step 1: Make your first table

Start with the table that matches the blocks you build with most. The Carpenters Table changes wood and the Glassblower changes glass. The pack changed the recipes for both, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4][5]

Step 2: Grab a handheld version

Six of the seven stations can be changed into a handheld item for easier access, so you don't have to run back to the table every time. There are even backpack upgrades for them. In the pack, each handheld below is crafted using its matching table:[4][5]

  • Saw is made with the Carpenters Table. The pack changed this recipe.[5]
  • Chisel is made with the Mason Table. The pack changed this recipe.[5]
  • Multimeter is made with the Tinkering Table. The pack changed this recipe.[5]
  • Needles are made with the Loom Table.[5]
  • Watering Can is made with the Botanist Workbench.[5]
  • Alchemy Book is made with the Alchemy Bench.[5]

How does Chipped work?

5 parts

Chipped is a building mod, and the sources here describe it that way: its systems revolve around crafting tables that turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants. None of the sources describe power, fluid, item automation or multiblock setups for it, so this section covers the tables, the tools and the pack's recipe changes.[1]

The seven tables

The project page says you start by crafting one of seven tables. They all look different but work the same, so you can pick whichever fits your build, or spread a few different ones around your base. Here are all seven.[1]

The mod advertises over 11,000 unique building blocks, many with connected textures.[1]

Pack-changed table recipes

The recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Mason Table and Tinkering Table are changed by this pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. Here are the in-pack versions.[5]

Create integration

The pack adds Create compatibility for Chipped blocks. The recipe dump lists generated Create cutting recipes for the stripped versions of carved and chipped logs, such as the Carved Stripped Oak Log and Chipped Stripped Birch Log. The dump shows no item inputs for these recipes.[5]

The pack also adds sandpaper polishing recipes for Chipped blocks. They turn Crying Obsidian into Polished Crying Obsidian, and Mud Bricks into Polished Mud Bricks.[5]

Reinforced variants

The mod's language file lists many reinforced blocks, including crates, logs, concrete colours, metal blocks and lamps. The sources here don't say how you obtain them.[6]

How do you progress through Chipped?

3 parts

Chipped doesn't have tiers in the usual sense. Your progression is a short ladder: build a station, use it to change blocks, then turn it into a handheld tool. The pack's quest for it, "Chipped" quest, sits in the Building Tips chapter right after Changing Blocks. It completes when you get any one of the station or handheld items.[4]

Build a station

The quest says there are 7 stations, and each one changes different blocks. The Carpenters Table changes wood and the Glassblower changes glass. The remaining stations are the Botanist Workbench, Loom Table, Mason Table, Alchemy Bench and Tinkering Table.[4]

The pack changed the recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Mason Table and Tinkering Table, so check the recipes below instead of relying on the mod's normal ones. The Botanist Workbench, Loom Table and Alchemy Bench use the mod's own recipes.[5]

Make it handheld

The quest says 6 of the 7 stations can become a handheld item for easier access, and there are even Backpack Upgrades for them. The handheld items are the Chisel, Saw, Multimeter, Needles, Watering Can and Alchemy Book. The recipes below show exactly how each one is made in the pack.[4][5]

Pack additions for Chipped blocks

The pack also adds extra ways to get Chipped blocks. Sandpaper polishing turns Crying Obsidian into Polished Crying Obsidian, and Mud Bricks into Polished Mud Bricks.[5]

The pack adds Create cutting recipes for the stripped Chipped wood variants too. Examples are Chipped Stripped Oak Log and Carved Stripped Oak Log. The same applies to the Edged, D Sign, F Sign and I Sign stripped variants and the other wood types, so if you have Create set up, you can cut those variants into their stripped versions.[5]

Tip: Start with the station for the blocks you build with most. For wood that's the Carpenters Table, and once you're tired of walking back to it you can craft the handheld Saw from it.[4][5]

How does Chipped work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

In this pack, Chipped's connection to other mods runs through the Sophisticated mods. Each of the seven Chipped stations has a matching upgrade for both Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage, so you can take a station with you in a backpack or add it to a storage block.[3][7]

The quest "Chipped" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after the Changing Blocks quest. It explains that Chipped uses stations to change blocks, and that there are even backpack upgrades for them.[3]

Which upgrades exist

Every upgrade comes in a backpack version and a storage version. Here is the full set, with the backpack versions linked:[7]

The storage versions use the same names, for example Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade and Chipped: Mason Table Upgrade.[7]

How they are crafted

All of these upgrade recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Each one is a shaped crafting recipe built around the matching Chipped station, plus the Upgrade Base from the backpack or storage mod. Here are the Glassblower upgrades as examples:[7]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Chipped only shows up in one quest in this pack: "Chipped" quest, in the Building Tips chapter. It comes after the Changing Blocks quest, so finish that one first.[3]

What the quest asks for

This is a pick-one task. You only need to have any one of the Chipped items it lists to complete it. You don't have to collect them all.[3]

What the quest tells you

The quest compares Chipped to the Chisels mods, since it also changes the designs of blocks. The difference is that Chipped uses stations you go to in order to change blocks. It says there are 7 stations, and each one changes different blocks. The Carpenters Table changes wood and the Glassblower changes glass.[3]

The quest also says 6 of those stations can be turned into a handheld item for easier access, and that there are even Backpack Upgrades for them.[3]

Tip: Since any one item completes the task, grab whichever station suits the blocks you're building with. The Carpenters Table is a good pick if you work mostly with wood.[3]

What changed in Chipped between versions?

In All the Mods 10 4.14, you're running Chipped version 4.0.2, shipped as the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1 (the file chipped-neoforge-1.21.1-4.0.2.jar).[8]

Chipped isn't a recent addition either. It has been part of the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a long stretch of its releases.[8]

Unverified The available pack changelogs have no entries for Chipped, and the mod's own changelogs for the shipped jars weren't available. This means the specific changes, version bumps or new blocks between the pack's releases can't be confirmed here.
