What is Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Chipped is a building mod that expands the variety of blocks you can use. It offers over 11,000 unique building blocks, from stained glass variations to concrete, prismarine and even gilded blackstone. The textures are hand-made in the vanilla style, and many of them are connected textures. This pack includes Chipped 4.0.2 for NeoForge 1.21.1.[1][2]

If you know the Chisel mod, you already get the idea, because Chipped was inspired by it. The pack's quest points out that Chipped does things its own way: instead of a single tool, you go to a station to change blocks.[1][3]

How it works

There are 7 different stations, and each one changes a different group of blocks. All of them look different but work the same way, so you can pick whichever one fits your build best.[1][3]

6 of those stations can be turned into a handheld item, so you don't have to walk back to the table every time. The quest also mentions Backpack Upgrades for them.[3]

Who it's for and where it fits

Chipped is for builders: castles, nether fortresses, houses and anything else where you want more block variety than vanilla gives you.[1]

In this pack it has its own quest, "Chipped" quest, in the Building Tips chapter. It comes after the Changing Blocks quest. The quest accepts any one of the Chipped items, including the stations, Chisel, Saw and Needles.[3]

How do you get started with Chipped?

2 parts

Chipped changes the look of blocks, a bit like Chisels Mods, but it works through stations. You go to a station to change blocks into their variants. The mod's own page says to start by crafting one of the seven tables, and that they all look different but work the same, so pick whichever fits your build.[1][4]

The pack has a quest for this, "Chipped" quest, in the Building Tips chapter right after the Changing Blocks quest. It accepts any one of the Chipped stations or handheld items, so crafting your first table is enough to complete it.[4]

Your first crafts, in order

  1. Make the Carpenters Table first. It changes wood. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4][5]
  2. Make the Saw next. It's the handheld version of the Carpenters Table, so you can change wood without walking back to the station. The pack changed this recipe too.[4][5]
  3. Add the Mason Table and Glassblower when your builds need them. The Glassblower changes glass. The Mason Table has a handheld version too, the Chisel. The pack changed both table recipes, and the Chisel's as well.[4][5]

How does Chipped work?

4 parts

Chipped is a building mod, and its project page says it offers over 11,000 unique building blocks, many with connected textures. The core loop is simple: craft one of the seven tables, then use it to turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants.[1]

The seven tables

All the tables look different but work the same, so you can pick whichever looks best in your build, or make a few different ones and spread them around your home. The seven are the Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench, Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Loom Table, Mason Table and Tinkering Table.[1][5]

The pack has changed the recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Mason Table and Tinkering Table. The Alchemy Bench, Botanist Workbench and Loom Table use the mod's own recipes. Here are the pack's versions of the changed ones:[5]

Create compatibility

The pack adds Create sandpaper polishing recipes for some Chipped blocks. Crying Obsidian becomes Polished Crying Obsidian, and Mud Bricks becomes Polished Mud Bricks.[5]

The pack also adds Create cutting recipes that produce stripped Chipped logs and stems. Examples are Carved Stripped Oak Log, Carved Stripped Crimson Stem and Chipped Stripped Birch Log. They cover both the carved and the chipped wood variants.[5]

Reinforced blocks

The mod's language file lists a large set of Reinforced blocks, including crates in several wood types, logs, concrete colors, metal and gem blocks, waxed copper blocks, froglights and lamps.[6]

How do you progress through Chipped?

5 parts

Chipped doesn't have tiers in the usual sense. The pack gives you a single quest for it, "Chipped" quest, and the real progression is which stations you build and in what order. The quest sits in the Building Tips chapter and comes after the Changing Blocks quest.[4]

Chipped changes block designs through stations you walk up to, rather than a single chisel in your hand. The quest says there are 7 stations and that each one changes different blocks. For example, the Carpenters Table changes wood and the Glassblower changes glass. It also says 6 of those stations can become handheld items, and that there are Backpack Upgrades for them too.[4]

The quest

The quest is an item task, and the list of accepted items covers both the stations and the handhelds. Stations: Botanist Workbench, Glassblower, Carpenters Table, Loom Table, Mason Table, Alchemy Bench and Tinkering Table. Handhelds: Watering Can, Alchemy Book, Saw, Needles, Chisel and Multimeter.[4]

Stations and their handhelds

Each handheld is crafted from its matching station. The Glassblower is the one station with no handheld recipe. The pairings are below.[4][5]

What the pack changed

The pack changes the recipes for the Carpenters Table, Glassblower, Mason Table and Tinkering Table. It also changes the handheld recipes for the Saw, the Chisel and the Multimeter. So don't trust the mod's default recipes from other guides. The Botanist Workbench, Loom Table and Alchemy Bench, and the Watering Can, Needles and Alchemy Book, are the mod's own recipes.[5]

Suggested order

  1. Build whichever station matches the blocks you want to change. The Carpenters Table is the one for wood.[4][5]
  2. Finish "Chipped" quest by obtaining any of the listed stations or handheld items.[4]
  3. Make the handheld version of any station you use a lot, so you don't have to walk back to it.[4][5]

Pack-added extras

The pack adds sandpaper polishing recipes for two Chipped blocks: Crying Obsidian becomes Polished Crying Obsidian, and Mud Bricks becomes Polished Mud Bricks.[5]

The pack also adds Create cutting recipes that turn Chipped logs and stems into their stripped versions. These cover the chipped, carved, edged, D sign, F sign and I sign variants, plus the chiseled mangrove log. One example is Chipped Stripped Oak Log.[5]

How does Chipped work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

In this pack, Chipped's connection to other mods runs through the Sophisticated mods. Each of the seven Chipped stations has a matching upgrade for both Sophisticated Backpacks and Sophisticated Storage, so you can take a station with you in a backpack or add it to a storage block.[3][7]

The quest "Chipped" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after the Changing Blocks quest. It explains that Chipped uses stations to change blocks, and that there are even backpack upgrades for them.[3]

Which upgrades exist

Every upgrade comes in a backpack version and a storage version. Here is the full set, with the backpack versions linked:[7]

The storage versions use the same names, for example Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade and Chipped: Mason Table Upgrade.[7]

How they are crafted

All of these upgrade recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's defaults. Each one is a shaped crafting recipe built around the matching Chipped station, plus the Upgrade Base from the backpack or storage mod. Here are the Glassblower upgrades as examples:[7]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Chipped?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Chipped only shows up in one quest in this pack: "Chipped" quest, in the Building Tips chapter. It comes after the Changing Blocks quest, so finish that one first.[3]

What the quest asks for

This is a pick-one task. You only need to have any one of the Chipped items it lists to complete it. You don't have to collect them all.[3]

What the quest tells you

The quest compares Chipped to the Chisels mods, since it also changes the designs of blocks. The difference is that Chipped uses stations you go to in order to change blocks. It says there are 7 stations, and each one changes different blocks. The Carpenters Table changes wood and the Glassblower changes glass.[3]

The quest also says 6 of those stations can be turned into a handheld item for easier access, and that there are even Backpack Upgrades for them.[3]

Tip: Since any one item completes the task, grab whichever station suits the blocks you're building with. The Carpenters Table is a good pick if you work mostly with wood.[3]

What changed in Chipped between versions?

All the Mods 10 4.12 ships Chipped version 4.0.2, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1 (the jar is chipped-neoforge-1.21.1-4.0.2.jar). Chipped has been part of the pack for a long time: it was first included in All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier.[8]

Unverified No pack changelog entries mention Chipped, and no changelogs are stored for the shipped jar. We can't confirm which Chipped versions earlier pack releases used or what changed between them, so there's no detailed change history to list here yet.
