What is RFTools Utility?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
RFTools Utility is the 1.14+ version of the original RFTools, a collection of general tools and utilities. Its project page describes it as the home for RFTools blocks that don't fit a more specific category.[1]
This pack includes version 1.21-7.0.12 of the mod.[2]
What's inside
According to the mod's project page, it contains these blocks and tools:[1]
- Automatic crafter[1]
- Environmental controller[1]
- Logic blocks[1]
- Information screens[1]
- Spawner system[1]
- Multitank[1]
- Teleportation system[1]
Related mods
The mod is intended to be used together with RFTools Power. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib.[1]
How do you get started with RFTools Utility?
4 parts
RFTools Utility is a grab bag of general-purpose machines: an automatic crafter, an environmental controller, logic blocks, information screens, a spawner system, a multitank and a teleportation system. It builds on RFTools Base, so most of its recipes use Machine Frame or Machine Base parts from that mod. Here's a sensible order to start in.[1][3]
Step 1: the Crafter
Start with the Crafter Tier 1. It's the mod's automatic crafter, and its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack. It's a cheap, useful first machine, and you get to learn how RFTools blocks work.[1][3]

Next: the Module Template
Next, make a Module Template. The pack's effect modules are crafted from it, so it unlocks a lot. The recipe is the mod's own, and it uses RFTools Base materials.[3]

Once you have a template, the pack adds its own recipes for effect modules such as the Featherfalling Module, shown below. The stronger modules, like the Flight Module, are made from the ModulePlus Template instead.[3]

Then: teleportation
The mod includes a teleportation system. The pack changed the recipes for both the Matter Transmitter and the Matter Receiver, so follow the recipes below and not what you remember from other packs.[1][3]

The Machine Information Screen Module watches a machine that supports it. Sneak right-click the machine to set the module's target.[4]
The Redstone Module is for wireless redstone. Right-click a redstone transmitter or receiver to add its channel to the module, and you can then view and control that channel in the Tablet.[3][4]
How does RFTools Utility work?
5 parts
RFTools Utility is a collection of general-purpose RFTools blocks that don't fit a more specific mod. It is meant to be used together with RFTools Power, and it depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib. The sources for this pack only cover a few of its systems in any depth, so this section is short on purpose.[1]
What the mod covers
- Automatic crafter[1]
- Environmental controller[1]
- Logic blocks[1]
- Information screens[1]
- Spawner system[1]
- Multitank[1]
- Teleportation system[1]
Automatic crafting
The entry point to the automatic crafter is the Crafter Tier 1. Its recipe in this pack is the mod's own, unchanged.[1][3]

Information screens and modules
Screens get their functionality from modules. The Machine Information Screen Module lets a screen monitor a machine, but only machines that support this system. To set it up, sneak right-click a supported block to set the module's target.[4]
There is also a redstone information module for the Tablet. Right-click a redstone transmitter or receiver to add that channel to the module, and you can then view and control wireless redstone from the Tablet.[4]
The pack has changed several screen and logic items: Button Screen Module, Clock Screen Module, Counter Screen Module, Counter and Analog. Their exact in-pack recipes are shown below. Counter Plus Screen Module keeps the mod's own recipe.[3]

The pack has also changed the recipes for the Charged Porter and the Destination Analyzer.[3]
Pack-added effect modules
The pack adds its own recipes for a whole family of effect modules, including the Flight Module, Speed Module, Nightvision Module, Peaceful Module and Noteleport Module. Each starts from a Module Template or a ModulePlus Template, and several recipes are shown below. The recipe list in the sources is incomplete, so other modules may exist that are not shown here.[3]

Unverified How the environmental controller, multitank, spawner system and teleportation network work in detail (power use, fluid and item handling, multiblock layouts, automation hooks) is not shown by the sources here. There is no in-jar guidebook found for this mod, and the pack has no config files for it.
How do you progress through RFTools Utility?
4 parts
Unverified The sources here show no quests that involve this mod, and it is not on the ATM Star quest path, so there is no quest-guided order for it. The path below follows the in-pack recipes instead.
RFTools Utility progression comes down to what you can craft. Many of its recipes build on a Machine Base or a Machine Frame, so get those two parts sorted first. The tiers below are a suggested order based on which parts each recipe needs, not an official pack ladder.[3]
Tier 1: logic and redstone gadgets
The first group is built on the Machine Base. In this pack the recipes for Wire, Logic, Analog, Timer, Counter, Sequencer, Sensor and Inventory Checker are all changed by the pack. Don't rely on what you remember from other packs.[3]
Redstone Transmitter and Redstone Receiver are also pack-changed and also use a Machine Base, so they fit right alongside the rest of this tier.[3]
Tier 2: screens and modules
Next come the screens. The Screen keeps the mod's own recipe, while Screen Controller, Screen Link and Digit have recipes changed by the pack.[3]

Most basic screen modules are pack-changed too: Text Screen Module, Clock Screen Module, Button Screen Module, Energy Screen Module, Fluid Screen Module, Inventory Screen Module, Counter Screen Module, Redstone Screen Module and Machine Information Screen Module.[3]
The upgraded screen modules use the mod's own recipes. Energy Plus Screen Module, Fluid Plus Screen Module, Inventory Plus Screen Module and Counter Plus Screen Module each build on their basic version.[3]
Next up: teleportation and machines
The teleport network is where the pack's changes really show. Matter Transmitter, Matter Receiver, Dialing Device, Destination Analyzer, Matter Booster and Matter Beamer all have pack-changed recipes built on a Machine Frame. Simple Dialer is pack-changed as well, but it uses a Machine Base instead.[3]

For portable teleporting, the Charged Porter is pack-changed. The Advanced Charged Porter is an upgrade of it, and it copies the components of the Charged Porter you put in.[3]

Finally: effect modules and the Environmental Controller

The pack adds its own recipes for the basic effect modules. These use the Module Template: Featherfalling Module, Glowing Module, Haste Module, Luck Module, Nightvision Module, Poison Module, Regeneration Module, Saturation Module, Slowness Module, Speed Module and Weakness Module.[3]
These pack-added modules sit a step higher, because they need the ModulePlus Template: Blindness Module, Flight Module, Noteleport Module, Peaceful Module and Waterbreathing Module.[3]

How does RFTools Utility work with other mods?
4 parts
RFTools Utility's links to other mods in this pack come through its recipes. The biggest one is a crafting chain that runs through the Flight Module. The rest are its ties to the RFTools Base mod.[1][3]
RFTools Base is the foundation
RFTools Utility depends on RFTools Base, and you see it in nearly every recipe. Machines are built from the Machine Base or the Machine Frame. The upgrade modules use Infused Diamond and Infused Enderpearl. The Module Template also takes the Dimensional Shard.[1][3]
The pack has changed many of the Utility recipes that use these base items, including the Logic, Timer, Sensor, Matter Transmitter and Spawner. So don't assume the standard mod recipe applies. Check the recipe on the site.[3]
Pack-added module recipes
The pack itself adds recipes for the Flight Module, the Peaceful Module and the Waterbreathing Module. Each one is built on a ModulePlus Template and an Infused Enderpearl, plus one extra vanilla item that decides which module you get: a Ghast Tear for flight, an Iron Block for peaceful and Prismarine for waterbreathing.[3]

The Flight Module in the Improbable Probability Device
The Flight Module is also an ingredient in the pack's recipe for the Improbable Probability Device. That recipe pulls together items from several other mods: the Vibrant Capacitor Bank, the 16M MEGA Storage Component, the Antimatter Pellet and the Large Energy Storage. If you're heading toward that device, you'll need to make the Flight Module first.[3]

Tag-based ingredients
Several Utility recipes ask for a common tag instead of one specific item. Redstone dust, ender pearls, iron ingots, glass blocks and quartz gems all work this way. For example, the Matter Transmitter and Matter Receiver accept any item in the ender pearl tag. The Screen Controller accepts any item in the glass block tag. So items from other mods can fill those slots as long as they carry the right tag.[3]
