What is RFTools Base?
4 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for McJty's tech mods. On its own it's mostly a toolbox of shared parts, but the other mods in that family lean on it, including RFTools Dimensions, RFTools Control, RFTools Power, Deep Resonance and XNet. This pack ships version 1.21-6.0.11.[1][2][3]
What it gives you
- Dimensional Shard ore generation: a small amount in the Overworld, with more in other dimensions.[1]
- The machine infuser.[1]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods, such as Machine Frames and Machine Bases.[1][4][5]
- The smart wrench.[1]
- A security and owner system.[1]
Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard Ore appears underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[6]
The mod also shows up in questing: the quest "Dimensional Bee" quest in the Productive Bees chapter lists this ore among its tasks.[7]
Crafting parts
Machine Frames do nothing on their own, but they're a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. Machine Bases work the same way, except the machines they produce are a quarter of a block high and usually have redstone input or output. That makes them handy in cramped spaces or on walls. If one faces the wrong way, right-click it with the wrench in Wrench Mode to turn it.[4][5]
Who it's for
If you plan to use any of the McJty tech mods, you'll run into this one first. It depends on McJtyLib.[1][3]
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. On its own it doesn't do a lot. It supplies the crafting materials, the Smart Wrench and the Machine Infuser that the other tech mods build on. Here is the order I'd go in.[1][3]
Read up and grab a wrench
Start with the Technology Guide, the Technology Guide. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[8]

Next, make the Smart Wrench. You'll use it all the time. For example, you can right-click a Machine Base machine with it in Wrench Mode to change the direction it faces. This is also the mod's own recipe.[4][8]

Machine Frames and Machine Bases
The Machine Frame is the housing for machines and devices. It does nothing by itself, but you'll use it as a crafting ingredient constantly. The pack changed this recipe, so go by the one below and not by what you remember from other packs.[5][8]

The Machine Base is the second building block. It also does nothing alone, but machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have redstone input or output. That makes them useful for placing in cramped spaces or on walls. The pack changed this recipe too.[4][8]

Find Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shards are the key resource here. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters, and it's affected by Fortune. The mod's worldgen gives a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines.[1][6]
The pack also has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that produces a Dimensional Shard, so you have a second route if you'd rather not dig. There's even a bee quest for it: "Dimensional Bee" quest has you feed an Infused Diamond to a Diamond Bee.[7][8]
Centrifuge (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/rftoolsbase/honeycomb_dimensional_shard
The pack also changed the crafted shard recipe, so a shard can be made by hand as well.[8]

Build the Machine Infuser
Once you have shards, make the Machine Infuser. It uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most of them, infusing reduces power requirements, and some get extra benefits. You can even infuse the Infuser itself to make it use less power. The recipe is changed by the pack.[8][9]

Shards also lead to Infused Diamond, which the bee quest above asks for, and to Infused Enderpearl. The Infused Diamond recipe is changed by the pack, while the Infused Enderpearl recipe is the mod's own.[7][8]

Handy extras
The Information Screen sits next to a machine and shows energy information by default. Use a wrench on it to toggle the display mode, if the attached machine supports that. It's crafted from a Machine Base, and the pack changed the recipe.[8][10]

How does RFTools Base work?
6 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the whole RFTools family. It doesn't do much flashy stuff by itself. Instead it gives you the shared crafting materials, the Dimensional Shard ore, the Machine Infuser and the Smart Wrench that the other tech mods lean on. It also includes a security and owner system.[1][3]
Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions. There is a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. Fortune affects it, and breaking it drops Dimensional Shard. The shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and you can also use them to infuse machines.[1][6]
The pack changed the crafted version of the shard, so use the recipe below instead of any default you remember.[8]

Infusing machines
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to make a lot of machines more efficient. For most machines, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some get extra benefits on top. Infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power.[9]

The guide documents these infusion effects. All of these machines come from other RFTools mods, not from RFTools Base itself:[9][12][13][14][15][16]
- Crafter: infusing reduces its power usage.[12]
- Matter Transmitter: infusing reduces power consumption and increases teleportation speed.[14]
- Screen Controller: infusing increases its scan range, which defaults to 32x32x32 blocks around the controller.[15]
- Matter Beamer: infusing sends more items per pulse and reduces the FE cost.[13]
- Spawner: infusing improves its efficiency, while infusing the beamers that feed it improves how fast and cheaply they deliver items.[16]
You can also make Infused Diamond and Infused Enderpearl from a shard.[8]

When you place one of these machines, the facing depends on which edge of the target block face your cursor is closest to. Imagine an X on that face and look at which quarter you are aiming at. The output faces that direction and the input comes from the opposite side. This is particularly useful in cramped spaces, and like all blocks made with Machine Bases, these machines can be placed on walls or ceilings.[4][17]
The Smart Wrench
The Smart Wrench removes and rotates tech blocks. Sneak right-click to pick a block up, and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change the wrench's mode. In Select Mode it can do specialized operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector.[18]

Modules and the Filter Module
Various machines in the RFTools tech mods accept modules, which are items you insert to modify the machine or add functions. In most cases you can just right-click the machine with the module to insert it.[11]
The Filter Module is the most versatile one. It whitelists or blacklists items for machines that support it, such as the Builder, Modular Storage and the Crafter. It handles blocks, items and tags, and you can also require matching on NBT and damage.[19]
- Sneak right-click an inventory, such as a chest, to add everything in it to the filter.[19]
- Sneak right-click a block in the world to add that block.[19]
- In the module's GUI you can add tags or convert a block or item into its tags.[19]

The Crafting Card holds a recipe, either a regular 3x3 one or a more complex shape, and various machines can use it. The stored recipe doesn't have to be valid, so the card can also serve as a general way to represent inputs and an output.[20]

Remote access and monitoring
The Tablet (empty) lets you reach machines remotely. Sneak right-click to open its internal GUI, where you can install up to 6 modules. A normal right-click opens the GUI of the current module, and the previous and next keys switch between installed modules. The remote machine must be near enough or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension.[8][21]

The Information Screen is a small screen you put next to a machine. By default it shows energy information, and it can also display power information for any block that supports RF/FE. Some machines, like the power cells from RFTools Power, offer additional views. Use a wrench on the screen to toggle display mode when the attached machine supports it.[10][22]

How do you progress through RFTools Base?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation of the RFTools family. It adds the crafting materials and a few utility items that the other mods in the family build on. In this pack it has no tier system of its own, so I've ordered the items by what you need before you can make the next one.[3][8]
Most of the recipes here were changed by the pack, and I'll flag the ones that weren't. The recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[8]
Stage 1: Frames and bases
Everything starts with Machine Frame and Machine Base. Neither does anything on its own. They are crafting ingredients that other recipes build on. The pack changed both recipes.[4][5][8]

Stage 2: Dimensional Shards
Dimensional Shard is the key material of the whole mod. You can mine Dimensional Shard Ore, which generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions. Fortune affects it, and it drops shards when broken.[6]
You can also craft a shard. The pack changed that recipe. The pack also changed a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that outputs a Dimensional Shard.[8]

Shards go into several of the more complicated recipes, and they can also be used to infuse machines.[6]
Stage 3: Infused materials and the Machine Infuser
Combine a shard with a diamond to get an Infused Diamond. The pack changed this recipe. The Infused Enderpearl recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[8]

Infusing is worth doing. The in-game guide says infusing a Crafter or a Dialing Device reduces its power usage.[12][24]
Unverified The sources don't describe how the Machine Infuser is operated or how much infusing reduces power usage, so check that in-game.
The quest tie-in
The mod is not on the main quest path, but one Productive Bees quest touches it. In "Dimensional Bee" quest you feed an Infused Diamond to a Diamond Bee. Its tasks include a Productive Bees item such as a bee cage or a configurable comb, plus Dimensional Shard Ore, so it's worth finding some ore.[7]
Utility items
These don't depend on the shard chain, so you can make them at any point. The Technology Guide and Smart Wrench use the mod's own recipes. The Tablet (empty), Filter Module and Crafting Card recipes were changed by the pack.[8]
- The Smart Wrench lets you rotate Machine Base machines. Right-click with it in Wrench Mode to change the direction a machine faces.[4]
- The Filter Module is supported by the Crafter.[12]
- The Tablet can hold a Redstone Information item, which lets you examine and change redstone signals from anywhere.[25]

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
4 parts
RFTools Base mostly shows up in this pack as the crafting backbone for other mods. Machine Frame, Machine Base, Infused Diamond, Infused Enderpearl and Dimensional Shard appear in recipes for RFTools Builder, RFTools Utility, XNet, Productive Bees and some vanilla-based upgrades.[3][4][5][6][8]
Productive Bees
This is the one link to a completely separate mod. The pack has a changed Productive Bees conversion recipe that turns an Infused Diamond into the Dimensional Shard bee. The sources here do not show the mod's default version of this recipe, so don't assume it matches what you may have seen elsewhere.[8]
Bee Conversion (productivebees)
Recipe id: productivebees:bee_conversion/rftoolsbase/dimensional_shard_bee
The quest "Dimensional Bee" quest walks you through it: you feed an Infused Diamond to a Diamond Bee. Its tasks ask you to hand in one of several Productive Bees items (a honeycomb, a comb, a spawn egg, or a bee cage or sturdy bee cage), plus Dimensional Shard Ore. It unlocks after another quest in the Productive Bees chapter.[7]
XNet
RFTools Base is also the base for XNet. In this pack the Controller, Router, Wireless Router and Redstone Proxy all use a Machine Frame, and the pack has changed all four recipes. XNet itself is about item, fluid and power distribution.[3][8][26]

RFTools Builder and Utility
Most Builder and Utility machines combine a Machine Frame or Machine Base with vanilla redstone parts, and the pack changed many of these recipes. The Builder, Projector and Scanner are all changed, as are the Utility logic blocks such as the Timer and Sensor. The recipes also accept common tags such as any ender pearl or any redstone dust, so items from other mods can fit in those slots.[8]

Dimensional Shards connect the mod to vanilla's rarer items in the upgrade recipes. The Fortune and Silk Touch quarry Shape Cards and the Tier 3 and Tier 4 Shield Projectors all need a shard, and the Tier 4 and Silk Quarry upgrades also need a Nether Star. These are unchanged mod recipes.[8]
Pack-added module recipes
The pack adds its own recipes for the Flight Module, Peaceful Module and Waterbreathing Module. Each one combines an Infused Enderpearl and a ModulePlus Template with a different vanilla item.[8]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use RFTools Base?
2 parts
The quest book shows RFTools Base in the Productive Bees chapter, in the quest "Dimensional Bee" quest. It is a bee-breeding goal, so you meet the mod's item as part of that quest.[7]
Productive Bees: Dimensional Bee
The goal is to feed an Infused Diamond to a Diamond Bee. The quest's tasks list these items:[7]
- Productive Bees items: Honeycomb, Comb Block, Spawn Egg Configurable Bee, Bee Cage or Sturdy Bee Cage.[7]
- The RFTools Base item: Dimensional Shard Ore.[7]
Where it sits in the order
In the Productive Bees chapter, this quest comes after the quest a quest in "Productive Bees". Finish that one before you go after the Dimensional Bee.[7]
What changed in RFTools Base between versions?
The version history for this mod is short. RFTools Base has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier, and version 2.0.4 ships RFTools Base 1.21-6.0.11.[2]
The mod's own changelog for 1.21-6.0.11 lists one change: the Patchouli manual documentation was updated and expanded.[27]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the sources here do not show what changed for RFTools Base between pack releases.
