What is Occultism?
2 parts
Occultism is a ritual magic mod built around summoning spirits, called demons, from "The Other Place". Once they're on your side, they can automate tasks, store vast amounts of items, mine for you in void dimensions, and help you make powerful enchanted tools and jewelry. You can also get familiars to support you. The pack ships version 1.190.0.[1][2]
If you like the idea of building a magic setup around rituals, then automation, storage and demon mining are what this mod is about. It's inspired by Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus books, where magicians rely on summoned spirits to do their magic.[1]
Getting started
Break grass until you get Demon's Dream Seeds, then craft them with a book to make the Dictionary Of Spirits and follow the guide inside. The pack's Occultism quest chapter follows the same path, opening with "Dreaming of Demons" quest and then "Demon Fruit" quest and "Little Book o' Demons" quest.[1][3]
Where it fits in the pack
Eating Demon's Dream gives you a chance at the Third Eye effect, which lets you see Otherworld materials you need for progression. The quests also point out that you can use Spiritfire instead and skip finding most of them.[3]
The next step is converting materials in Spiritfire. Andesite becomes Otherstone, oak saplings become Unstable Otherworld Sapling, and diamonds become Spirit Attuned Gem. A Divination Rod helps you locate Otherworld materials in the world.[3]
From there you move into rituals. You'll need White Chalk (purified from Impure White Chalk) and a Chalk Brush for removing the symbols again. Items for a ritual go in a Sacrificial Bowl, and the Golden Ritual Bowl sits in the middle to activate it, usually with a Book of Binding in it. For now you only need four bowls, but later rituals need upwards of ten. For your first Book of Binding: Foliot you'll make Purified Ink.[3]
Occultism also shows up in the pack's Basic Tools chapter. One Tier 3 quest there accepts either an Infused Pickaxe or an Iesnium Pickaxe.[4]
How do you get started with Occultism?
4 parts
Occultism is all about summoning demon spirits to work for you. The order below follows the pack's Occultism questline, so you can tick the quests off as you go.[1][3]
Seeds and the Dictionary of Spirits
The chapter starts with "Dreaming of Demons" quest, which asks you to get Demon's Dream Seeds. The mod's own page says you get them by breaking grass, much like vanilla wheat seeds.[1][3]
Next, the quest "Little Book o' Demons" quest asks you to make the Dictionary Of Spirits. The quest describes it as the guide book for the mod, says it is needed to craft several things in the pack, and notes it has a quest-style guide inside if you'd rather read than follow quests.[3]

According to the quest "Demon Fruit" quest, consuming the Demon's Dream gives you a chance of the Third Eye effect, which lets you see into the Otherworld. The quest "Tools of the Trade: Spectral Goggles" quest then presents Otherworld Goggles as a way to get that effect without eating fruit, even when worn in a Curios slot.[3]
Spiritfire and Otherworld materials
Spiritfire converts Overworld materials into Otherworld ones ("Spiritfire Conversions" quest). Andesite becomes Otherstone, and diamonds become Spirit Attuned Gem, which several later recipes use. Oak saplings become Unstable Otherworld Sapling, which grow into trees you can only harvest properly with the Third Eye.[3]
If you'd rather hunt for these materials in the world, the Divination Rod can find them ("Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest).[3]

Ritual prep
The quest book sets up four preparation quests before the first ritual: chalk, bowls, candles and a Book of Binding. The chalk quest ("Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest) asks for Impure White Chalk and the Chalk Brush. It says throwing chalk into Spiritfire purifies it, and that the brush is how you remove drawn symbols.[3]

The bowls quest ("Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest) asks for a Sacrificial Bowl and a Golden Ritual Bowl. For now you only need four bowls, with upwards of ten needed per ritual later on. The golden one is used in the middle of the ritual to activate it, and usually holds the Book of Binding.[3]

The candles quest ("Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest) says most summoning rituals need candles, and suggests getting Tallow by killing animals such as pigs, cows, sheep, horses or Trader Llamas with a Butcher Knife. It also says vanilla candles can work. The same quest asks for a Spirit Attuned Crystal, which it says is used in several rituals.[3]

Your first ritual
"Our First Ritual" quest is a Summoning Ritual for a Foliot Crusher, a demon that crushes items for you, which the quest says you will need for some of the higher-level chalks. The quest tells you to combine your unbound book with your Dictionary of Spirits in a crafting grid to get a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound).[3]
The quest walks you through the ritual like this:[3]
- Open the Dictionary of Spirits, go to the Pentacles tab and pick Aviar's Circle. The quest says you might have to read a little first, and that there is a Mark All As Read option.[3]
- Click the eye in the bottom-left corner of the image to build an outline of the ritual in the world.[3]
- Once the multiblock is done, place 4 sacrificial bowls (the quest says more for future rituals) anywhere within an 8 block horizontal radius of the center bowl, and use the required items on them.[3]
- Place the bound book in the Golden Ritual Bowl and the ritual starts.[3]
After that, "Chalking It Up" quest suggests asking your new Foliot Crusher to crush End Stone, Obsidian and Calcite so you can make new chalk colors.[3]
How does Occultism work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 guide
Occultism is built around summoned spirits that do your work for you. According to the mod's own description, they can automate tasks, store vast amounts of items and mine in void dimensions. The in-game Dictionary of Spirits is the place to learn each system step by step. This section covers the machine and automation rules the available sources actually confirm.[1]
Spirit jobs through Books of Calling
In this pack, spirit automation runs through Books of Calling. The pack has a Book of Calling: Foliot Transporter, a Book of Calling: Foliot Janitor, a Book of Calling: Foliot Lumberjack and a Book of Calling: Djinni Machine Operator. The Foliot jobs start from a Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound). The Djinni machine operator starts from a Book of Binding: Djinni (Bound).[6]

Dimensional mineshaft item handling
The dimensional mineshaft is where spirits mine for you, and it has simple item rules. Spirits in lamps go in from the top. Every other side is for pulling items out, so hoppers work there.[7]
- Insert spirits in lamps from the top of the mineshaft.[7]
- Extract items from any of the other sides.[7]
- Empty it by hand, with hoppers, or with a transporter spirit.[7]
Storage links
The stable wormhole's tooltip shows whether it is linked to a storage actuator. If it says it is not linked, it is not connected to your storage setup yet.[7]
Wild Spirit services and familiar upgrades
Not every ritual binds a spirit to the result. Forging Reinforced Deepslate is a service provided by Wild Spirits. You sacrifice the items and the spirit forges the block for you. You collect these blocks with an infused or iesnium pickaxe.[7]
Familiars have a mechanic of their own. The blacksmith familiar upgrades your other familiars when you right-click it with iron ingots or iron blocks. Upgraded familiars gain extra effects, while the blacksmith itself cannot be upgraded.[7]
Unverified Ritual multiblock layouts, pentacle and bowl placement, redstone behavior, storage system capacities, spirit miner rates and any config values are not confirmed by the sources available for this section. The pack ships no config files for the mod, so check the in-game Dictionary of Spirits for those details.
How do you progress through Occultism?
7 parts
Occultism in this pack is a quest-guided chain. At this early stage it starts with a single seed: the chapter opens with "Dreaming of Demons" quest, where you grab Demon's Dream Seeds. From there the quests move you through the Otherworld, chalk, rituals and spirits.[3]
Getting started
- At this early stage, eat Demon's Dream for a chance at the Third Eye effect, which the quest says lets you see into the Otherworld. The fruit is covered in "Demon Fruit" quest.[3]
- Make the Dictionary Of Spirits in "Little Book o' Demons" quest. The quest calls it the guide book for the mod and says you need it to craft several things in the pack.[3]
- Next, the quests have you use Spiritfire to convert Overworld materials into Otherworld ones in "Spiritfire Conversions" quest. Andesite becomes Otherstone, an Oak Sapling becomes an Unstable Otherworld Sapling, and a Diamond becomes a Spirit Attuned Gem.[3]
- Optionally, craft a Divination Rod to track down Otherworld materials. The quest says you attune it by using it on the regular version of the material. This is "Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest.[3]
Chalk, bowls and your first ritual
The quests list chalk, bowls, a Book of Binding and candles as preparation for your first ritual. For chalk, the first quest starts you with Impure White Chalk, then has you purify it in Spiritfire to get White Chalk. It also asks for a Chalk Brush, because it says drawn symbols are a pain to remove without one. This is "Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest.[3]
The quest for the Book of Binding says it needs Purified Ink, which you get by purifying Black Dye in Spiritfire, or you can make an Book of Binding: Empty and dye it later. See "Books of Binding" quest. For bowls, the Golden Ritual Bowl goes in the middle and usually holds the book. The quest says that for now you only need four bowls, and that later rituals need upwards of ten. Candles need Tallow from animals killed with the Butcher Knife, though the quest says vanilla candles also work. Those steps are "Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest and "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest.[3][8]
"Our First Ritual" quest is the first Summoning Ritual, and it brings in a Foliot Crusher. The quest says you bind the demon by combining the Unbound Book with your Dictionary of Spirits. Then you build Aviar's Circle and put the bound book in the Golden Sacrificial Bowl. Extra bowls can sit anywhere within an 8 block horizontal radius of the center bowl. The quest then has the Foliot crush End Stone, Obsidian and Calcite for the next chalks in "Chalking It Up" quest.[3]
Which spirit unlocks what
After the first ritual, the in-pack crafting rituals are gated by which bound Book of Binding they use. The recipes show this clearly.[8]
- Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound): Nature Paste, Research Fragment Dust, the Apprentice Ritual Satchel and the Tier 1 Storage Stabilizer.[8]
- Book of Binding: Djinni (Bound): Gray Paste, the Infused Pickaxe, the Soul Gem, the Dimensional Matrix, the Dimensional Mineshaft and the Tier 2 Storage Stabilizer.[8]
- Book of Binding: Afrit (Bound): the Iesnium Sacrificial Bowl, the Artisanal Ritual Satchel and the Tier 3 Storage Stabilizer.[8]
- Book of Binding: Marid (Bound): the Iesnium Anvil, Dragonyst Dust and the Tier 4 Storage Stabilizer.[8]
Chalk colors and what unlocks them
In the recipes, most colored chalks start from Impure White Chalk plus a ritual or spirit drop. Impure Green Chalk uses Nature Paste and Impure Lime Chalk uses Research Fragment Dust with crushed Emeralds. The quests say both come from Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion, in "Green Chalk" quest and "Lime Chalk" quest. Impure Gray Chalk uses Gray Paste from Strigeor's Higher Binding, in "Gray Chalk" quest.[3][8]
The later chalks come from drops, so they need fights. Orange uses Cursed Honey from a Possessed Bee (Ihagan's Enthrallment), and Pink uses Demonic Meat from an Afrit-possessed Zombified Piglin. Red uses Afrit Essence and Blue uses Marid Essence. Black uses Witherite Dust from Sevira's Permanent Confinement. The quest steps are "Orange Chalk" quest, "Pink Chalk" quest, "Red Chalk" quest, "Blue Chalk" quest and "Black Chalk" quest. The Odus' Open Convocation quest warns you may need several runs to get enough Demonic Meat.[3][8]
Tools that speed up the grind
The quests place two quality-of-life items after Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion. The quest says the Otherworld Goggles give you the Third Eye effect without eating fruit, even from a Curios slot, in "Tools of the Trade: Spectral Goggles" quest. The Apprentice Ritual Satchel stores your ritual materials and, per its quest, slowly places the runes for you, in "Tools of the Trade: Ritual Satchel" quest.[3]
Once you can do Sevira's Permanent Confinement, the quest says the Artisanal Ritual Satchel places everything instantly and can clear the chalk runes. The Iesnium Ritual Bowl replaces the Golden Bowl and, according to its quest, cuts a ritual's time to one fourth. These are "Tools of the Trade: Artisanal Ritual Satchel" quest and a quest in "Occultism".[3]

Iesnium and mining
To reach Iesnium the quest asks for an Infused Pickaxe, made by infusing a demon into a Spirit Attuned Pickaxe Head. It also says you need the Third Eye to find the ore. This is "Tools of the Trade: Infused Pickaxe" quest.[3][8]

The in-pack ritual for the Infused Pickaxe uses a bound Djinni book.
This is a skyblock pack, so the quest suggests sieving Crushed Blackstone for Raw Iesnium instead of going to the Nether ("Iesnium: Ore of the Otherworld" quest). Your first ingots can go into an Iesnium Pickaxe, which the quest says lasts longer ("The Otherworld Pickaxe" quest). After that, "Demon Mining" quest has you build a Dimensional Mineshaft with a mining demon in a lamp. Higher tiers work faster and are more likely to mine Iesnium. The mineshaft does not auto-export, so you need Hoppers, Transporting Demons or Item Pipes, and it voids items over its storage limit.[3][8]
Storage line
The Dimensional Storage line starts with the Dimensional Storage Actuator in "Demonir Magical Storage!" quest. The quest says that by default it has 128 slots, each holding up to 16 stacks of one item, and items with NBT data take a whole slot.[3]

Stabilizers raise the stack capacity in "Upgrading Our Magical Storage" quest. The quest says they must point at the Matrix, not the base, from up to 5 blocks away with a clear line of sight. In the recipes, Tier 1 uses a Foliot, Tier 2 a Djinni, Tier 3 an Afrit and Tier 4 a Marid. For remote access, "Remote Access" quest covers the Stable Wormhole and the Storage Accessor, which the quest says works across dimensions.[3][8]
How does Occultism work with other mods?
4 parts
Occultism isn't a standalone island in this pack. A handful of recipes tie it into Ars Nouveau, Mekanism, Productive Trees and two of the pack's big endgame crafts. Here's what the recipes and quests show.[3][8]
Sawing Otherworld logs
The pack adds two sawing recipes that turn Otherworld logs into Otherplanks. The Mekanism one outputs both Sawdust and the planks. The other runs through the Productive Trees sawmill and takes Sawdust together with the logs.[8]

Ars Nouveau and the Sacrificial Altar
The biggest crossover is with Ars Nouveau. The Sacrificial Altar is made in the Enchanting Apparatus, and the pack has changed that recipe. It uses an Occultism Golden Ritual Bowl along with Ars Nouveau parts like the Containment Jar, the Drygmy Token and Sourcestone.[8]

The Spirit Attuned Gem also has an Ars Nouveau route. It is made in the Enchanting Apparatus from Ars essences, a Source Gem and Demon's Dream Essence. This one is the mod's own recipe, not a pack change. You can also get the gem by throwing a diamond into Spiritfire, which the Spiritfire Conversions quest covers.[3][8]
Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)
Recipe id: ars_ocultas:spirit_attuned_gem
Gold and silver transmutation
Two Ars Nouveau imbuement recipes convert between metals, and the pack has changed both. One produces Gold Ingot from silver, and the other produces Silver Ingot from gold. Each one needs a Spirit Attuned Gem and a Manipulation Essence. The silver one also needs Demon's Dream Essence. Silver ingots from the ore mod show up in the Our First Ritual quest, so the silver recipe is worth knowing about.[3][8]

Endgame crafts that use Occultism
Two pack-added crafts use the Soul Gem alongside items from other mods. The Creative Spell Book combines it with the Archmage Spell Book and the ATM Star. The Dragon Soul uses it with items from Draconic Evolution, Mystical Agradditions, Productive Bees, Actually Additions and Ars Nouveau.[8]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Occultism?
6 parts
Everything for Occultism lives in a single quest chapter called "Occultism". It runs from your first seeds to the endgame rituals, and the quests mostly follow a tree, so here is the order to expect.[3]
Getting started
- "Dreaming of Demons" quest is the entry point. It asks for Demon's Dream Seeds.[3]
- "Demon Fruit" quest (the fruit gives you a chance at the Third Eye effect, which lets you see Otherworld items) and "Little Book o' Demons" quest (Dictionary Of Spirits, the mod's guide book, which you need for several crafts in the pack) both unlock after the seeds.[3]
- "Spiritfire Conversions" quest asks for Otherstone, Unstable Otherworld Sapling and Spirit Attuned Gem. "Tools of the Trade: Divination Rod" quest follows, asking for a Divination Rod to locate Otherworld materials.[3]
Preparing your first ritual
Four prep quests come next: "Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest (impure and purified white chalk plus the Chalk Brush), "Books of Binding" quest (Purified Ink and a Book of Binding: Foliot), "Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest (a normal and a golden bowl) and "Tools of the Trade: Butcher's Knife" quest. The bowls quest says that for now you only need four bowls, but later rituals need upwards of ten. The Butcher Knife leads into "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest, which wants Spirit Attuned Crystal and candles. The quest text points to Tallow as a way to make them.[3]
Once those are done, "Our First Ritual" quest has you summon a Foliot Crusher with the bound book. After that, "Chalking It Up" quest asks for yellow, purple and light gray impure chalk, made with help from the crusher.[3]
Storage
After "Chalking It Up" quest, "Demonir Magical Storage!" quest introduces the Dimensional Storage Actuator. The quest says that by default it has 128 slots, each holding up to 16 stacks of an item, and that items with NBT data are not stacked. Two quests follow it. "Upgrading Our Magical Storage" quest covers the stabilizers, which must face the matrix from up to 5 blocks away. "Remote Access" quest covers the Stable Wormhole and the Storage Accessor. A separate quest, a quest in "Occultism", is just the decorative silver and copper bowls.[3]
Tools and mining
- "Tools of the Trade: Spectral Goggles" quest gives you the Otherworld Goggles, so you get the Third Eye effect without eating fruit.[3]
- "Tools of the Trade: Ritual Satchel" quest gives you the Apprentice Ritual Satchel, which places ritual runes slowly. Later, "Tools of the Trade: Artisanal Ritual Satchel" quest upgrades it to the Artisanal Ritual Satchel, which places them instantly.[3]
- "Tools of the Trade: Infused Pickaxe" quest leads to "Iesnium: Ore of the Otherworld" quest. The quest suggests sieving Crushed Blackstone to get Raw Iesnium.[3]
- "The Otherworld Pickaxe" quest makes the Iesnium Pickaxe, then "Demon Mining" quest sets up a Dimensional Mineshaft with a mining demon.[3]
- "Empty Soul Gem" quest asks for the Soul Gem, used to capture mobs.[3]
The chalk chain
Most of the rest of the chapter is about collecting every chalk colour. Early ones are "Green Chalk" quest, "Lime Chalk" quest, "Gray Chalk" quest and "Orange Chalk" quest. "Odus' Open Convocation" quest leads to "Pink Chalk" quest, which uses Demonic Meat. "Red Chalk" quest needs a live cow as a sacrifice.[3]
"Sevira's Permanent Confinement" quest is the third tier of infusion rituals. It opens up "Black Chalk" quest, "Tools of the Trade: Artisanal Ritual Satchel" quest, and a quest for the Iesnium Ritual Bowl (a quest in "Occultism"). The text of that last quest says the bowl cuts ritual time to one fourth.[3]
Endgame
- "Blue Chalk" quest comes first, using Marid Essence.[3]
- "Fatma's Incentivized Attraction" quest summons a Marid Crusher, which unlocks "Cyan Chalk" quest and "Light Blue Chalk" quest.[3]
- "Uphyxes' Inverted Tower" quest is the maximum infusion ritual. It leads to a quest in "Occultism" (the Iesnium Anvil) and "&#AD00C8Magenta Chalk" quest, which also needs the Marid Crusher.[3]
- "E2C00Brown Chalk" quest uses Cruelty Essence.[3]
- "Ronaza's Contact" quest asks for every impure chalk colour and unlocks after the magenta, brown, cyan, pink and light blue chalk quests.[3]
- a quest in "Occultism" asks for the Eldritch Chalice and unlocks after "Ronaza's Contact" quest and a quest in "Occultism".[3]
What changed in Occultism between versions?
2 parts
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.2.1 ships Occultism 1.190.0. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so you've had it from the start. Below are the changes from the two most recent mod releases.[2]
Occultism 1.190.0 (current in this pack)
- More items moved over to the new art style, and there are new ways to get prismarine and corals.[9]
- The Chinese localization was updated, and there was another round of translation updates from Crowdin.[9]
Occultism 1.189.0
- New item and block textures by Aldahel.[10]
- The mod's build setup switched from NeoGradle to mdg. This is a developer-side change, so you won't see it in game.[10]
- Bug fix: the search animation on the 3D divination rod model wasn't working.[10]
The mod keeps a full list of every release on its GitHub releases page if you want to dig into older versions.[9][10]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for Occultism that I could check, so any change the pack itself made to this mod's recipes or values across releases is unverified.
