Productive Trees is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 1.21.1-1.1.1. Breedable tree species (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Productive Trees?

2 parts

Productive Trees adds a huge collection of new tree species to the game, and the main hook is breeding them. The guide says the mod has 159 trees, so use JEI to browse them and see which ones breed together. This pack ships version 1.21.1-1.1.0.[1][2]

Watch out: The mod's own guide says it is in beta and not feature complete. The growth features, meaning how the trees look when grown, are still under development.[3]

How breeding works

The basic idea is to put one tree next to another tree near some bees. With a bee nest or hive, the leaves of both trees need to be within 4 blocks of it, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from flower to hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves got pollinated.[3]

If you would rather do it by hand, collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to get pollen. Use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new species. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5]

There is also a Pollen Sieve Upgrade. Install it in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees and the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Range upgrades widen the working area by 2 blocks each, and extra sieve upgrades don't raise the yield.[3][6]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack has a Productive Trees quest chapter. Most quests are breeding goals that tell you which parents to cross. For example, Oak + Birch gives you the Silver Lime Sapling, and many later saplings branch off that one.[7]

The mod also has compatibility with the Tree Tap mod, which opens up some additional tree products. For example, Sugar Maple trees can give maple sap, which makes maple syrup.[9][10]

Unverified The sources don't confirm whether Tree Tap is installed in this pack, and they don't show Productive Trees on the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with Productive Trees?

3 parts

Productive Trees is all about breeding. You put different tree species next to each other, get them pollinated, and a new species shows up. The mod says it is in beta, so how the grown trees look is still under development.[3]

Tip: The mod has 159 trees, and the guide book doesn't list them all. Use JEI to look up which trees breed together and to check any other recipe for this mod.[2]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Start with the saplings the pack's Productive Trees quest chapter lists as its first goals. Silver Lime Sapling and Beech Sapling are both listed as Oak + Birch, and European Larch Sapling is listed as Spruce + Birch. Check a quest in "Productive Trees", a quest in "Productive Trees" and a quest in "Productive Trees".[7]
  2. Pick up the other early branches too. Teak Sapling is listed as Dark Oak + Jungle, Red Delicious Apple Sapling as Cherry + Oak/Dark Oak, and Cacao Sapling as Jungle + Cherry. See a quest in "Productive Trees", a quest in "Productive Trees" and a quest in "Productive Trees". Many later quests in the chapter come after these.[7]
  3. Get bees working for you. Put two trees side by side near a bee nest or hive, and make sure the leaves of both trees are within 4 blocks of it and the bees have flowers nearby. Each trip from the flower back to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]
  4. Need more reach? The hive's base range is 4, and each range upgrade adds 2 blocks. A spyglass helps you spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]
  5. Prefer to do it by hand? Collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter to get pollen. Then use the pollen on a leaf to pollinate it manually and get a new species. JEI tells you which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5][11]
  6. Once you have an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, you can install the Pollen Sieve Upgrade so the bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Its collection area follows your range upgrades, and a second sieve upgrade won't increase the yield.[6]

Wood processing machines

Two machines get their own quests early on. The Stripper strips logs automatically using axes put in the machine, and it is covered by "Stripping" quest. Each of its time upgrades increases the number of items processed per operation by 4.[7][8][11]

The Sawmill turns logs into sawdust and more planks than you would get from crafting. Sawdust can be used to make paper. Details are in "Sawing" quest.[7]

Growing trees in pots

The pack changed the Botany Pots crop entries for these trees. As an example, planting a Beech Sapling gives you Beech Leaves, Beech Log, Beech Sapling and Beechnut.[12]

Crop (botanypots)

Recipe id: productivetrees:botanypots/beech

Some saplings come from exploration. Brown Amber Sapling is described as tucked beneath cold ocean water, and Firecracker Sapling is described as found in ancient cities. The Brown Amber quest says the pack has no real Cold Ocean Ruins, so you need a workaround. That is a good one to come back to later.[7][11]

How does Productive Trees work?

5 parts

Productive Trees is all about breeding trees. The mod has 159 of them, and the in-game guide points you to JEI to see which ones breed together and what other recipes exist. Keep in mind that the mod is in beta and not feature complete: how trees look when grown is still under development.[2][3]

Breeding with bees

The basic idea is simple: put one tree next to another tree near some bees. The leaves of the two trees you want to breed must be within 4 blocks of the beenest or hive, and the bees need flowers nearby. Each trip from a flower to the hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf.[3]

Tip: Use a spyglass to spot which leaves have been pollinated.[3]

The hive can be simulated, and each range upgrade increases the working area by 2 blocks. The base range is 4.[3]

The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, and the bees then collect pollen from nearby trees. Its collection area is affected by range upgrades. Installing more than one sieve upgrade will not increase the yield.[6]

Breeding by hand

You can also collect leaves and run them through a pollen sifter, which extracts pollen from leaves. Use the resulting pollen balls on a leaf to pollinate it and get a new tree species. Pollen from bees works the same way. Check JEI to see which trees breed together, so you know which pollen to use on which leaves.[3][4][5]

Pollination recipes pair two kinds of leaves and give you a sapling. Here are two examples, Beech Sapling and Allspice Sapling:[12]

The pack also gives you other routes to planks. The Mekanism sawing recipe for alder logs was changed by the pack:[12]

Recipe id: productivetrees:mekanism/sawmill/alder

The pack adds Create cutting too: any alder log becomes 6 alder planks, and alder planks can be cut into an Alder Button. This goes far beyond alder, since 1,491 Create cutting recipes in the pack turn this mod's items into other items from the mod.[12]

The pack also changed the crafting recipes for the Alder Door (which gives 3 doors), the Alder Bookshelf and the alder button. The same pattern applies across the other wood types.[12]

Other processing

The stripper takes the bark off wood, leaving it stripped. It requires an axe to operate.[8]

Rubber is smelted into Cured Rubber:[12]

Crates can be processed too. A Crate of Almonds goes into a smoker to become a Crate of Roasted Almonds.[12]

Botany Pots and the Soul Tree

The pack changed the Botany Pots crop recipe for alder. It uses 2 saplings and returns leaves, a log and a sapling.[12]

Unverified The mod's guide mentions compatibility with the Tree Tap mod for extra tree products, but whether Tree Tap is installed in this pack is not confirmed by the sources. How the Sawmill is powered or operated is not covered by the sources either, and there are no config files for this mod in the pack.

How do you progress through Productive Trees?

6 parts

In this pack, Productive Trees progression is a breeding chapter in the quest book. Each quest asks you to get one sapling and lists its parent trees in the subtitle. The mod has 159 trees in total, and the quests walk you from simple vanilla-based starters up to rare late-game species.[2][7]

Stage 1: starter saplings

The first row of quests gives you saplings bred from vanilla trees:[7]

The same row has two machine quests. "Stripping" quest unlocks the Stripper, which strips logs automatically using axes put in the machine. "Sawing" quest unlocks the Sawmill, which cuts logs into Sawdust and more planks than normal crafting gives. Sawdust can be used to make Paper.[7][8]

Stage 2: the first branches

Each starter opens its own branch, and each quest unlocks after the sapling it builds on:[7]

Deeper stages: chains of crosses

From here the quests stack on each other. A good example is the tropical hardwood chain, where each step lists the previous tree as a parent:[7]

  1. Kapok Sapling (Teak + Jungle).[7]
  2. Ceylon Ebony Sapling (Kapok + Dark Oak).[7]
  3. Yellow Meranti Sapling (Ceylon Ebony + Kapok).[7]
  4. Mahogany Sapling (Yellow Meranti + Kapok).[7]
  5. From Mahogany you unlock Rosewood Sapling, Brazilwood Sapling, Old Fustic Sapling and Greenheart Sapling.[7]

Other chains work the same way. Sugar Maple Sapling comes from European Larch + Red Maple. Sweet Chestnut Sapling builds on Walnut. Douglas Fir Sapling needs Silver Fir, which in turn needs Balsam Fir and Bull Pine.[7]

Top stage: Ender Crafter saplings

The rarest saplings in the chapter are not simple crosses. The pack adds Ender Crafter recipes for them. The quests also say where to find some of the extra ingredients: chests in Ancient Cities for the Firecracker quest, chests in End Cities for the Soul Tree quest, and chests in Bastions for the Black Ember quest.[7][12]

Once you have those, the quests chain them into even rarer trees. Thunder Bolt Sapling lists Firecracker + Flickering Sun as parents. Sparkle Cherry Sapling lists Firecracker + Soul Tree. Cave Dweller Sapling lists Black Ember + Soul Tree.[7]

How the breeding itself works

Plant two parent trees close to each other near bees. Make sure the leaves of both trees are within 4 blocks of the nest or hive and that the bees have flowers nearby. Every trip from flower to hive triggers a pollination attempt on a nearby leaf, and a spyglass helps you spot pollinated leaves.[3]

If you'd rather do it by hand, run leaves through a pollen sifter to extract pollen, then use the pollen balls on a leaf to pollinate it. Check JEI to see which pollen goes on which leaves.[3][4][5]

Tip: Range upgrades increase a simulated hive's working area by 2 blocks each, on top of the base range of 4. A Pollen Sieve Upgrade in an advanced beehive from Productive Bees makes bees collect pollen from nearby trees, but more than one sieve upgrade won't raise the yield.[3][6]
Watch out: The in-game guide says the mod is in beta and not feature complete. The growth features, meaning how the trees look when grown, are still under development.[3]

Growing the results

The pack changes the Botany Pots crop recipes for the mod's trees. A sapling gives its leaves, its log and the sapling back, and some trees add a fruit or nut too. For example, Beech also gives Beechnut and Coffea also gives Coffee Beans.[12]

How does Productive Trees work with other mods?

4 parts

Productive Trees plays nicely with a few other mods in this pack. Most of the connections are custom recipes the pack adds, plus a bee-based link with Productive Bees. Here is what the sources confirm.[6][12]

Ender Crafter sapling recipes

The pack adds three Ender Crafter recipes (from Extended Crafting) that turn one Productive Trees sapling into a rarer one, using items from other mods. They are pack-specific, so don't expect to find them in the mod's defaults.[12]

The first gets you the Soul Tree Sapling by combining an Asai Palm Sapling with an item from Forbidden Arcanus.[12]

The second makes the Firecracker Sapling from a Red Maple Sapling plus items tied to the Warden. The quest a quest in "Productive Trees" covers this one, and its note points you to chests inside Ancient Cities.[7][12]

Productive Bees and pollen

The Pollen Sieve Upgrade goes into an advanced beehive from Productive Bees, and then your bees collect pollen from nearby trees. Range upgrades widen the collection area, and extra sieve upgrades don't increase the yield. For breeding, the leaves need to be within 4 blocks of the nest or hive, and range upgrades add 2 blocks each.[3][6]

The pack has changed how this upgrade crafts. You can turn Upgrade Pollen Sieve into Upgrade Pollen Sieve with a shapeless recipe, which is handy if you end up holding the Productive Lib version.[12]

Tree Tap

Productive Trees has compatibility with the Tree Tap mod, which unlocks some additional tree products you can extract.[9]

Unverified The sources don't confirm whether Tree Tap is actually installed in this pack, so check in-game before planning around its extra tree products.

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Productive Trees?

4 parts

The pack has a single quest chapter for this mod, called Productive Trees. Nearly every quest asks you to hand in one sapling, and the quest subtitles list the parent trees you cross-breed to get it. Quests unlock in a branching tree, so the order below follows the prerequisites.[7]

Where you start

Nine quests unlock straight from the chapter itself. Seven are sapling quests, and the other two are machine quests.[7]

The branches

From Silver Lime you reach a quest in "Productive Trees" (White Willow), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Wild Cherry), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Dogwood), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Walnut) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ash). Beech leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Alder), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Brazil Nut) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Pecan). European Larch leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Red Maple), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Yew) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Bull Pine).[7]

Teak opens a quest in "Productive Trees" (Balsa), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ipe), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Kapok) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Cashew). The Kapok line continues to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Ceylon Ebony), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Yellow Meranti), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Mahogany). Mahogany in turn unlocks a quest in "Productive Trees" (Old Fustic), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Greenheart), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Rosewood) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Brazilwood).[7]

The apple line starts at Red Delicious Apple and splits into a quest in "Productive Trees" (Prairie Crabapple), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sand Pear), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Granny Smith) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sweet Crabapple). Cacao leads to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Papaya), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Date Palm), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Asai Palm). The citrus line runs through White Willow to a quest in "Productive Trees" (Sour Cherry) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Citron). From there it reaches Pomelo, Plum, Key Lime, Mandarin and eventually a quest in "Productive Trees" (Orange).[7]

Quests with extra requirements

Several quests have a second prerequisite outside the chapter's own tree, and some of the saplings need loot you won't find in a normal breeding setup. The quest text says where to look.[7]

The crepe myrtle line is "Purple Crepe Myrtle Sapling" quest (Purple Crepe Myrtle), then a quest in "Productive Trees" (Red Crepe Myrtle), a quest in "Productive Trees" (Tuscarora Crepe Myrtle) and finally "Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle Sapling" quest (Moonlight Magic Crepe Myrtle). Each of the last three also lists a "Luck" quest as a prerequisite, and so do the Copper Beech and White Ipe quests. The Ipe line continues with a quest in "Productive Trees" (Pink Ipe) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Purple Ipe).[7]

The endgame saplings

The last quests combine the rare trees. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Purple Spiral) and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Water Wonder) build on Blue Yonder. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Rippling Willow) crosses Blue Yonder with Flickering Sun, and a quest in "Productive Trees" (Slimy Delight) builds on that. a quest in "Productive Trees" (Night Fuchsia) needs Purple Spiral and Sparkle Cherry. The chapter ends with a quest in "Productive Trees", which asks for the Time Traveller Sapling from Blue Yonder + Rippling Willow.[7]
