What is Create?
2 parts
Create is the mod for building machines you can actually watch work. It adds tools and blocks for building, decoration and what its authors call aesthetic automation. The game isn't played inside a bunch of menus: you set up contraptions of animated components that work together in lots of possible arrangements.[1]
The pack ships Create 6.0.6 for Minecraft 1.21.1. It's there from the pack's earliest versions, so you can plan around it from the start.[2]
How to learn it
Create has a built-in visual guide called Ponder that walks you through its mechanics and gadgets. The mod's own page also recommends JEI, because the vanilla recipe book can't guide you through the recipes by itself.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a dedicated Create quest chapter, and its structure shows how the mod's progression is laid out. These are the main steps the quests follow:[3]
- Early basics: Andesite Alloy, Wrench, Engineer's Goggles, Super Glue, Mechanical Belt and Schematic Table all unlock from the same starting point.[3]
- Andesite tier: a quest in "?" (Andesite Casing) follows a quest in "?". Machines like the Mechanical Press, Mechanical Mixer, Deployer, Millstone, Crushing Wheel and Encased Fan come after it.[3]
- Rotation: the Shaft quest leads to the Gearbox, Clutch, Gearshift and Encased Chain Drive.[3]
- Logistics: the belt quest branches into the Depot, Chute, Item Vault, Cardboard and the andesite and brass funnels and tunnels.[3]
- Fluids: Copper Casing, Fluid Pipe and Fluid Tank lead on to the Spout, Hose Pulley, Item Drain and Mechanical Pump.[3]
- Brass tier: a quest in "?" (Brass Casing) requires both the Mechanical Mixer and Blaze Burner quests. a quest in "?" (Precision Mechanism) follows the Deployer quest.[3]
How do you get started with Create?
4 parts
Welcome to Create! Everything in this mod grows out of one material, so your first steps are about getting that material and turning it into the basic building blocks. The pack's Create quest chapter follows this same order.[3][4]
Step 1: Andesite Alloy
Andesite Alloy is described in the mod's own advancement text as Create's most important resource. In the pack it is the first real item quest in the chain: a quest in "?" asks you to obtain it, and the shaft and casing quests unlock after it.[3][4]
Step 2: Shaft, then Cogwheel
Once you have alloy, make a Shaft. It unlocks a quest in "?", and that quest leads to the gearbox, clutch, gearshift and encased chain drive quests.[3][5]

Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/shaft
Next comes the Cogwheel. The cogwheel quest a quest in "?" is a real hub. After it, the pack's questbook points you to the Hand Crank, water wheels, the Windmill Bearing with its Windmill Sail, and the Steam Engine.[3]

Step 3: Andesite Casing
The Andesite Casing is your basic machine casing. The casing quest a quest in "?" unlocks a lot of machines, including the Encased Fan, Mechanical Press, Millstone, Mechanical Mixer, Crushing Wheel and Deployer.[3][4]
Step 4: Your first machine
The Mechanical Press is a great first machine. Its advancement is about creating sheets in it, and the same press and a Basin can also be used to compact items.[3][4]

How does Create work?
11 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Create isn't a mod you play through menus. Almost everything happens in the world as animated components working together, and the mod ships its own visual in-game documentation called Ponder to walk you through each block's mechanics. Keep JEI open alongside it, because the vanilla recipe book can't guide you through Create on its own.[1]
Rotational force
Everything in Create runs on rotation. Your first sources of torque are the Water Wheel, an assembled windmill and the Hand Crank for quick manual bursts; later you graduate to the Steam Engine, which generates torque from a boiler. Windmills can be assembled at varying strengths, and boilers can be pushed all the way to their maximum level of power.[6]
Rotation is carried between machines by Shaft and by Mechanical Belts, which connect two shafts together. To change how fast that rotation moves, connect a Large Cogwheel to a Small Cogwheel (that's the basic gear shift) or use a Rotation Speed Controller when you need to fine-tune a contraption to an exact speed.[6]
Every machine you add draws on the network's stress capacity. To see exactly how loaded a network is, wear Engineer's Goggles and look at a Stressometer; it will read out the current load, up to a full 100% readout when you've maxed the network.[6]
Casings and materials
Andesite Alloy is Create's most important resource and the gateway to the first machine tier. Machines are then built around casings: Andesite Casing for the basic tier, Brass Casing for the more sophisticated machines, and Copper Casing as the waterproof option for fluid work. Brass itself is alloyed in a Mechanical Mixer heated by a Blaze Burner.[6]
Further up the chain you'll refine Powdered Obsidian into Sturdy Sheets, polish Rose Quartz, and assemble the Precision Mechanism, the component-crafting item that gates Create's most advanced gear.[6]
Processing machines
Most of Create's ore and food processing comes from a handful of powered blocks, each with its own recipe type:[6]
- The Millstone pulverises materials on its own, while a pair of powered Crushing Wheels does the same job at far higher throughput and can be run right up to maximum speed.[6]
- The Mechanical Press makes sheets, and when placed over a Basin it performs compacting, turning more items into fewer.[6]
- The Mechanical Mixer combines ingredients in a Basin, and with a Blaze Burner underneath it handles heated recipes such as alloying.[6]
- An upright Mechanical Saw processes materials placed in front of it.[6]
- The Encased Fan pushes air through fire, water, lava or ice to perform fan processing: washing, smelting and the like.[6]
- The Deployer acts as a stand-in for you, using items and tools on whatever is in front of it.[6]
- Mechanical Crafters chained together handle multi-step crafting automatically; they can be deliberately slowed right down if you feed them very low speed.[6]
Moving items around
Funnels extract from and insert into containers, Chutes move items vertically, and belts carry them horizontally. For more flexible routing, the Mechanical Arm picks items up and delivers them to targets you program in: it can handle 10 or more output locations from a single arm, including odd jobs like feeding a Blaze Burner. The Weighted Ejector launches items (and players) across gaps, with enough range to throw you more than 30 blocks.[6]
Filters are what make all of this precise. List Filter matches a list of items, Attribute Filter matches by item properties, and Package Filter handles Create's packages. All three can be wiped back to blank on a crafting grid if you want to reuse them.[7]
Clearing a used List Filter.
Fluids
Fluid Pipes and the Mechanical Pump move liquids around; the pulling end of a pipe or pump is what collects water from a source, and pipes can even draw honey straight out of a Bee Nest or Beehive. Wrenching a pipe that contains fluid turns it into a windowed pipe so you can watch the contents. Watch out when two different fluids meet in the same network.[6]
For bulk work, the Hose Pulley lowers into a body of fluid to drain or fill it, and a large enough lava lake counts as infinite. On the item side, the Spout fills fluid-containing items from above and the Item Drain empties them as they roll across it, you can chain several drains in a row for continuous emptying.[6]
Steam and boilers
Fluid Tanks double as boilers: heat them, attach Steam Engines, and you get torque scaled to the boiler's power level. Steam Whistles mounted on a tank play notes, and a single Fluid Tank can carry up to 12 uniquely pitched whistles if you want a working pipe organ.[6]
Contraptions
Contraptions are groups of blocks that move as one. Super Glue binds loose blocks into a group, bearings (including the Clockwork Bearing) spin assembled structures, and the Rope Pulley raises and lowers them, it can extend over 200 blocks deep. Minecart Contraptions can carry at least 200 attached blocks, and with a Deployer on board they'll even place track in front of themselves as they go.[6]
Contraptions aren't just scenery: drills, saws and harvesters mounted on them keep working while they move, and a Portable Storage Interface lets you push items into or pull them out of a moving contraption from a fixed point.[6]
Trains
Train Tracks, Train Casing made from Sturdy Sheets and a bearing get you an assembled Train. Trains can be built out to 6 or more carriages, driven by a conductor following a Train Schedule, and managed on shared track with Train Signals. They can pass through portals, and Train Seats will happily carry you thousands of blocks: over 5,000 blocks from where you started, if you're patient. Display Links can forecast a train's arrival on a Display Board.[6]
Packages and requests
Create's logistics layer works with cardboard packages. A Packager boxes items up from an inventory, Chain Conveyors carry packages across your base, and a Frogport catches them at the destination. A Stock Ticker lets you employ a mob and place item requests against your network, while Factory Gauges trigger those package requests automatically when stock runs low. A Table Cloth turns a block into a small shop you can put items up for sale on.[6]
Control and readouts
Redstone Link pairs transmit redstone wirelessly, and the Linked Controller activates those links from your hand. Display Links visualise information from blocks onto displays such as Display Boards. The Clipboard keeps notes, and it also copies settings like filters from one block with a right-click and applies them elsewhere with a left-click, a huge time-saver when you're configuring a row of identical machines.[6]

For rails, the Controller Rail is a uni-directional powered rail whose speed varies with the redstone signal strength you feed it.[6]
Gear and gadgets
A Copper Backtank accumulates air pressure while it's driven, and paired with a Copper Diving Helmet it becomes a diving suit for extended underwater work. Netherite diving gear goes a step further and survives a dip in lava. Other handheld tools include the Extendo Grip for extra reach and the Potato Cannon.[6]

Cardboard isn't only for packages: you can craft a full set of cardboard armour and a cardboard sword from it, and sneaking around in the full set is its own little achievement.[6][7]
How do you progress through Create?
6 parts
The Create chapter in this pack is a tree of quests, and none of them have titles. Each one simply asks you to hold an item, so the clearest way to follow progression is by item. The tiers below follow the order the quests unlock. Most of the early quests hang off one starting quest that isn't shown in the chapter listing I have.[3]
Tier 1: Andesite
Everything starts with Andesite Alloy in quest a quest in "?". It unlocks the Shaft quest a quest in "?", the Andesite Casing quest a quest in "?" and the Piston Extension Pole quest a quest in "?". The same early batch also has the Wrench, Engineer's Goggles, Super Glue, Mechanical Belt and Schematic Table quests.[3]

Once you have shafts, the Cogwheel quest a quest in "?" opens up your power sources. Those are the Water Wheel, the Hand Crank, the Windmill Bearing with its Windmill Sail, and the Steam Engine. Shafts also lead to the Gearbox, Clutch, Gearshift and Encased Chain Drive, and the chain drive leads on to the Adjustable Chain Gearshift.[3]
Andesite casing is the gate to the machines. After it you can pick up the Mechanical Press, Mechanical Mixer, Millstone, Crushing Wheel, Encased Fan and Deployer. The Speedometer and Stressometer also need the cogwheel branch.[3]

A second quest, a quest in "?", asks for super glue and andesite casing together. It opens the contraption and farming branch: Mechanical Bearing, Clockwork Bearing, Rope Pulley, Gantry Carriage with Gantry Shaft, the chassis blocks, Cart Assembler, Mechanical Drill, Mechanical Saw, Mechanical Plough and Mechanical Harvester. The Mechanical Piston quest, which also accepts the sticky version, needs this quest and the extension pole quest.[3]
Logistics branch
The Mechanical Belt quest a quest in "?" leads into item handling. It unlocks the Item Vault, Depot, Cardboard, Chute, and the andesite and brass funnels and tunnels. The depot leads to the Weighted Ejector, the chute to the Smart Chute, and cardboard to the Packager.[3]

Trains
The deployer also leads to the Train Track quest. Combine it with train casing and you reach the Train Station. The a quest in "?" quest asks for Train Controls, super glue and train casing, and it unlocks the Train Schedule, Train Signal, Train Observer and another controls quest.[3]
Packages and stock
The package quests sit on a separate branch. The Chain Conveyor quest leads to the Package Frogport. The Stock Link quest leads to the Stock Ticker. Both start from a quest that isn't in the chapter listing I have.[3]
Unverified The recipes for Andesite Alloy, Andesite Casing, Copper Casing, Brass Casing, Train Casing, Electron Tube and Precision Mechanism are not in the recipe data shown for this section, so how to make them in this pack is unconfirmed here. Check them in-game with the recipe viewer. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Create work with other mods?
6 parts
Create doesn't live alone in this pack. A lot of the glue between it and other mods is recipes that the pack added or rewrote, so Create's machines work with the ores, gems and metals from the rest of your world. Here's what the pack's recipe data shows.[5]
Crushing ores into All The Ores clumps
The pack changed Create's crushing recipes so that ores, raw materials and raw blocks come out as clumps from All The Ores, together with a Nugget of Experience. Here's the rundown:[5]
- Iron, gold, copper and zinc ores give Iron Clump, Gold Clump, Copper Clump or Zinc Clump. You also get a Nugget of Experience and cobblestone, or cobbled deepslate for the deepslate versions.[5]
- Nickel, osmium, platinum and uranium ores give Nickel Clump, Osmium Clump, Platinum Clump or Uranium Clump, plus a Nugget of Experience.[5]
- Raw materials and raw blocks of copper, gold, iron, nickel, osmium, platinum, uranium and zinc also crush into the matching clump plus a Nugget of Experience.[5]
- Create's own ores crush into All The Ores items too. Asurine gives a Zinc Clump and Zinc Nugget. Crimsite gives an Iron Clump and an iron nugget. Veridium gives a Copper Clump and Copper Nugget. Ochrum gives Electrum Nugget, a Gold Clump and a gold nugget.[5]
If you're building from the sky, there's also a way in through Ex Deorum. The pack added sieve recipes where gravel run through an iron, golden, diamond or netherite mesh can give Asurine, Crimsite or Veridium.[5]
Crushed raw metals
The pack also reworked what happens to crushed raw aluminum, lead, silver and tin. Smelting or blasting them gives the All The Ores ingots (Aluminum Ingot, Lead Ingot, Silver Ingot and Tin Ingot). Splashing them gives the matching nuggets instead. The recipe names carry Immersive Engineering and Mekanism compatibility labels.[5]
Silent Gems
Gem ores from Silent Gems also go through Create's crushing in this pack. Each one gives its gem and a Nugget of Experience, along with a stone byproduct:[5]
- Alexandrite, black diamond, carnelian, citrine, iolite, moldavite and turquoise ores drop netherrack.[5]
- Ammolite, kyanite and rose quartz ores drop end stone.[5]
- Topaz ore drops cobblestone, and so do the ruby, sapphire and peridot ores. Those last ones give Ruby, Sapphire and Peridot.[5]
Create Enchantment Industry and Create Dragons Plus
That Nugget of Experience feeds Create Enchantment Industry. Grinding a nugget or a Block of Experience gives Liquid Experience, and compacting the liquid makes the block again. Pressing a Block of Experience makes an Enchanting Template.[5]
The Fluid Hatch comes from Create Dragons Plus, and the pack changed its recipe. It's a step towards the Experience Hatch.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Create?
7 parts
All the Create quests live in a single chapter called "create". The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I'll refer to them by what they ask for. Each one is an item task, and the order below follows the prerequisite links between them.[3]
Where it starts
The first quest with no prerequisite is a quest in "?", which asks for a Blaze Burner. Six more early quests unlock after a quest that isn't part of this chapter's list: a quest in "?" (Schematic Table), a quest in "?" (Andesite Alloy), a quest in "?" (Wrench), a quest in "?" (Mechanical Belt), a quest in "?" (Super Glue) and a quest in "?" (Engineer's Goggles). The Schematicannon quest a quest in "?" follows the schematic table.[3]
Rotation and kinetics
- Andesite alloy leads to a quest in "?" (Shaft), a quest in "?" (Andesite Casing) and a quest in "?" (Piston Extension Pole).[3]
- The shaft quest opens a quest in "?" (Gearbox), a quest in "?" (Vertical Gearbox), a quest in "?" (Clutch), a quest in "?" (Gearshift), a quest in "?" (Encased Chain Drive) and a quest in "?", which takes a Cogwheel or a Large Cogwheel.[3]
- Further down that line: a quest in "?" (Sequenced Gearshift) and a quest in "?" (Adjustable Chain Gearshift).[3]
- The cogwheel quest unlocks power sources: a quest in "?" (water wheel or large water wheel), a quest in "?" (Hand Crank), a quest in "?" (Windmill Bearing plus Windmill Sail), a quest in "?" (Steam Engine, Fluid Tank and Shaft) and a quest in "?" (both cogwheel sizes).[3]
- a quest in "?" (Speedometer) and a quest in "?" (Stressometer) need both the andesite casing quest and the both-cogwheels quest.[3]
Andesite machines and contraptions
The andesite casing quest unlocks a quest in "?" (Encased Fan), a quest in "?" (Mechanical Press), a quest in "?" (Deployer), a quest in "?" (Crushing Wheel), a quest in "?" (Mechanical Mixer) and a quest in "?" (Millstone). The deployer quest then leads to a quest in "?" (Precision Mechanism).[3]
Contraptions hang off a quest in "?", which asks for Super Glue and Andesite Casing together. It opens the Mechanical Bearing, Clockwork Bearing, Rope Pulley, Cart Assembler, Mechanical Plough, Mechanical Harvester, Mechanical Drill, Mechanical Saw, both chassis types and the Gantry Carriage with Gantry Shaft. a quest in "?" (a Mechanical Piston or Sticky Mechanical Piston) needs this quest and the extension pole quest.[3]
Belts, chutes and packaging
The belt quest opens a quest in "?" (Depot), a quest in "?" (Item Vault), a quest in "?" (Cardboard), a quest in "?" (Chute), plus funnel and tunnel quests for andesite and brass. Follow-ups include a quest in "?" (Weighted Ejector), a quest in "?" (Packager) and a quest in "?" (Smart Chute).[3]
Fluids
The fluid branch starts from a quest outside this chapter's list and covers a quest in "?" (Fluid Tank), a quest in "?" (Fluid Pipe) and a quest in "?" (Copper Casing). From the pipe you reach the Mechanical Pump, Smart Fluid Pipe, Fluid Valve and a quest in "?" (Basin), which also needs the belt quest. The copper casing opens a quest in "?" (Spout), a quest in "?" (Item Drain), a quest in "?" (Hose Pulley) and a quest in "?" (Portable Fluid Interface). The spout leads to a quest in "?" (Blaze Cake).[3]
Brass and trains
a quest in "?" (Brass Casing) needs the mixer and blaze burner quests. It unlocks a quest in "?" (Mechanical Crafter) and a quest in "?" (Train Casing). a quest in "?" (Mechanical Arm) needs both brass casing and precision mechanism.[3]
The train line begins with a quest in "?" (Train Track) after the deployer. Then comes a quest in "?" (Train Station), and then a quest in "?", which asks for Train Controls, Super Glue and Train Casing. After that, four quests open: a quest in "?" (controls), a quest in "?" (Train Signal), a quest in "?" (Train Observer) and a quest in "?" (Train Schedule). A a quest in "?" super glue quest follows too.[3]
Logistics
Two quests start from a quest outside this chapter's list: a quest in "?" (Chain Conveyor) and a quest in "?" (Stock Link). The chain conveyor leads to a quest in "?" (Package Frogport). The stock link leads to a quest in "?" (Stock Ticker).[3]
Unverified The sources don't show quest rewards or titles. The train schedule quest also lists a second, incomplete task entry, so I can't say what it asks for beyond the Train Schedule.
Which Create config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
All the options below live in Create's client config, so they only affect your own game: visuals, sounds, tooltips and menus. This pack changes three of them, and all three are about where the Create config button appears in your menus. Everything else is left at Create's default.[8]
What this pack changed
- client.mainMenuConfigButtonRow is set to 0 instead of the default 2. A value of 0 disables the button, so you won't see a Create config button on the main menu.[8]
- client.ingameMenuConfigButtonRow is set to 1 instead of the default 3. This picks which row of the in-game menu the button sits on. Setting it to 0 would disable that button too.[8]
- client.ingameMenuConfigButtonOffsetX is set to -400,000,000 instead of the default -4. This is how many pixels the in-game button is shifted sideways, and the minus sign puts it on the left side of the row.[8]
Unverified An offset that large is presumably meant to push the in-game config button far off the screen, which would effectively hide it. The config only describes the offset in pixels, so this effect isn't confirmed. If you want the button back, try setting the offset to the default -4.
Tooltips and goggle info
- client.enableTooltips is on, so holding Shift shows item descriptions and holding Ctrl shows controls. Leave this on while you're learning the mod![8]
- client.enableOverstressedTooltip is on, so you get a tooltip when you look at overstressed components. That's very handy when a big build suddenly stops turning.[8]
- If the goggle overlay covers something, client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetX (20) and client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetY (0) move it. The /create overlay command lets you adjust this in-game.[8]
- client.goggleOverlay.customColorsOverlay is off. Turn it on to use your own background and border colors for the goggle and hover overlays.[8]
Performance, sound and comfort
- client.fanParticleDensity is 0.5 on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0. Lower it if a fan-heavy base is hurting your frame rate.[8]
- client.filterItemRenderDistance is 10 blocks. That's the maximum distance at which items in filter slots are displayed.[8]
- client.sound.enableAmbientSounds makes cogs rumble and machines clatter. Turn it off, or lower client.sound.ambientVolumeCap, if your factory gets too noisy.[8]
- client.rotateWhenSeated is on, so you get rotated along with a moving contraption you're sitting on. Disable it if that makes you dizzy.[8]
- client.ignoreFabulousWarning is off, so Create warns you if you play with Fabulous graphics enabled.[8]
Trains and JEI
- client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier is 3. It controls how far the camera zooms out while you're seated on a train.[8]
- client.trains.showTrainMapOverlay is on, so your track networks and trains show up on supported map mods. client.trains.trainMapColorTheme is RED, and you can switch it to GREY or WHITE.[8]
- Debugging a rail network? Turn on client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 to see nodes and edges in F3 mode. client.trains.showExtendedTrackGraphOnF3 adds network materials on top of that.[8]
- client.jeiIntegration.syncJeiSearch is on, so searching in the stock keeper UI also updates the JEI search.[8]
What changed in Create between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Create 6.0.6 (file create-1.21.1-6.0.6.jar). Create has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so this is the version you're playing with right now.[2]
Here are the highlights from the Create 6.0.6 changelog. The copy I have is cut off at the end, so the list of bug fixes may not be complete.[9]
Gameplay changes in 6.0.6
- Wardens can now hear trains and train horns.[9]
- Contraption controls with a door as their target now affect all carriages of a train.[9]
Optimizations
- Basins no longer take up a lot of tick time in certain setups.[9]
- Signals and train observers now use Flywheel visuals.[9]
- Vault comparator updates and vault inventory access are optimized, which helps if you run big storage builds.[9]
Bug fixes worth knowing about
- Crushing wheels no longer void items because their internal inventory was too small. Efficiency is no longer lower on powers of 2, and horizontal crushing wheels no longer process items twice in specific directions.[9]
- An item duplication bug on belts is fixed. Belts are also no longer consumed when you don't have enough shafts to split them.[9]
- Several crashes are fixed: requesting recipes with no item outputs, certain Create blocks being part of worldgen, holding shift when setting addresses, toolboxes, and interacting with a train's schedule with CC: Tweaked.[9]
- Train graph sync issues are fixed.[9]
- Backtanks can no longer be enchanted with mending and unbreaking. Backtank air no longer depletes in spectator mode, and the air overlay no longer appears in fluids the player can't drown in.[9]
- Logistics fixes: restocker promises now expire, and re-packager behaviour is corrected when ordering multiple recipes from a stock ticker with non-uniform ingredients.[9]
- Encased chutes now conduct redstone, and sliding doors now play sounds when opened.[9]
- Sequenced assembly input amounts now respect the number of loops.[9]
- Concrete powder splashing recipes are now created at runtime to improve mod compatibility.[9]
Unverified Pack-specific changelog entries about Create across the pack's releases were not available, so changes the pack itself made to this mod between releases are unconfirmed.
