What is Actually Additions?
1 part
Actually Additions is a long-running magitech mod full of useful gadgets. This pack includes version 1.3.20, built for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been here since the pack's 1.0 release or earlier.[1][2]
The core loop is simple. You use the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer to turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals unlock the rest of the mod.[1]
- Machines for processing and sorting items.[1]
- Lasers that wirelessly move energy, items and fluids.[1]
- Renewable oil for generating power.[1]
If you like building up from simple tools into automation and power setups, this mod is for you. It also has its own in-game booklet with chapters like the one on crystals, so you can look things up without leaving the game.[1][3][4]
Where you'll meet it in the pack
The pack's quest book touches the mod in a couple of places. In the Food and Farming chapter, the "Flax String" quest quest accepts Flax Seeds as one of several seed options, alongside seeds from other mods.[5]
In the Productive Bees chapter, the "Black Quartz Bee" quest quest has you feed a Block of Black Quartz to a Crystalline Bee.[6]
Unverified The sources don't show where Actually Additions sits in the pack's overall progression, so treat the quests above as the only confirmed hooks. It is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Actually Additions?
6 parts
Actually Additions is a magitech mod, and a lot of it grows out of crystals made with the Atomic Reconstructor. Here is the order I'd go in, using the real in-pack recipes shown below.[1]
Grab the manual first
Start with the Actually Additions Manual (WIP), the mod's in-game guide. It has a chapter with video introductions. One of them is described as a bit outdated but still a great introduction to the mod, and the other is a longer, more detailed spotlight playlist.[7]
Build the Atomic Reconstructor
The Atomic Reconstructor is the centre of the early game. The mod describes it as the way to turn minerals into powerful crystals, and those crystals lead to the machines. This recipe is the mod's own, not changed by the pack.[1][8]

Get your first crystals
Crystals come in several colours, such as Restonia Crystal and Void Crystal. You can also compress crystal shards into a full crystal. For example, Red Crystal Shard becomes a Restonia Crystal.[8]
Make a Basic Coil
The Basic Coil is a component you will reuse. It goes into the Auto-Breaker, the Coffee Maker and the Battery Box, and it is the starting point for the Advanced Coil.[8]

The Coal Generator
The Coal Generator is one of the machines the mod's achievements ask you to craft. The pack changed its recipe, so follow the one shown here rather than a recipe from the mod's defaults.[7][8]

Flax for string
If you need string, the quest "Flax String" quest points you to flax seeds, and Flax Seeds from this mod count for it. The pack adds sieve recipes that give these seeds from dirt, using Ex Deorum meshes. It also changed the Immersive Engineering cloche recipe, which turns the seeds and dirt into string while giving the seeds back.[5][8]
How does Actually Additions work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Actually Additions is built around crystals and lasers. You make crystals with the Atomic Reconstructor and the Empowerer, and those crystals unlock machines for processing and sorting items, lasers that move energy, items and fluids wirelessly, and renewable oil for power. Here is how the parts the sources explain actually work.[1]
Starting point: the Atomic Reconstructor
Everything starts with the Atomic Reconstructor, the machine that turns minerals into crystals. Here is how it's crafted in this pack.[1][9]

Coils as the machine gate
In this pack, coils show up in the recipes of many machines, including the Auto-Breaker, the Battery Box and the Canola Press. The Basic Coil is the first step, and the Advanced Coil comes after it. The Advanced Coil recipe is changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipe.[9]

Laser relays and item networks
Item movement runs on Item Laser Relay networks. On its own, such a network only knows about all the items and slots in the containers connected to it. To actually work with those items, you use an Item Interface.[10]
The Item Interface pretends to be one very large chest containing every slot of every connected container. You can put a Hopper or any other item transport on it and it behaves like a chest: it accepts items and lets items be pulled out. Nothing is stored in the interface itself. Items go into and come out of the laser relay network. To connect an Item Interface to a network, place an Item Laser Relay next to it.[10]
The Hopping Item Interface connects the same way, by sitting next to an Item Laser Relay. The difference is that it pulls and pushes items on its own, so you don't need to pipe anything into it. It has every function of a Hopper, but it stores items in the network instead of an internal inventory.[10]
Relay modes and filters
Laser relays have a mode setting for how they treat the blocks next to them. One mode only takes items out of adjacent blocks, and the other only puts items into adjacent blocks.[10]
Filters work as a whitelist or a blocklist. An empty blocklist lets all items through, and an empty allowlist lets no items through. To filter certain items, place them, or configured Item Filters, in the slots. The smart button adds every item from inventories adjacent to the relay to that part of the list. If you enable the respect-mod option, the filter compares the mods items come from instead of the items themselves. That's handy for storage systems with mod-based chests.[10]
Machines that read from a connected inventory use a slot range. The first field is the first slot to work on, and the second is the slot after the last one. For example, entering 2 and 5 covers slots 2, 3 and 4.[10]
Machine controls and quirks
- Redstone mode can be toggled with a right-click while holding the right tool.[10]
- Batteries can be switched with a sneak-right-click between charging other items in your inventory and not charging them.[10]
- The Phantom Placer can place blocks in mid-air. Because of that it doesn't know which side to place against, so you should usually set it to a solid side.[10]
- Drill augments must be installed in tier order. You need the previous tier first, an augment can't be installed twice, and you must remove the highest tier augments first.[10]
- Some machines use a multiblock with a Controller. If the Controller isn't part of the right multiblock, the game tells you to look at the Controller's description.[10]
- Some machines can shatter if you try to break them, with a message that they weren't sturdy enough to be broken.[10]
How do you progress through Actually Additions?
6 parts
Actually Additions has no big quest chain in this pack, so progression here follows the recipes. Only a couple of quests touch the mod, and the machine recipes show a clear ladder built on coils and crystals.[5][6][8]
Start: the manual and the flax quest
The Actually Additions Manual (WIP) is the mod's in-game guide. Its index has a getting started entry and a crystals chapter.[3][8][11]
The quest you'll meet first is "Flax String" quest in the Food and Farming chapter. It unlocks after Punch the Grass and accepts several flax seed items, including Flax Seeds.[5]
The pack adds Ex Deorum sieve recipes that give flax seeds from dirt with a flint, iron, golden, diamond or netherite mesh. The Farming for Blockheads market entry for flax seeds and the Immersive Engineering cloche recipe were both changed by the pack, and the cloche recipe now also returns string.[8]
Crystals and the basic coil
Restonia, Palis, Diamatine, Void, Emeradic and Enori crystals each come from compressing shards, and each can be compressed into a block or broken back down. Each also has an empowered version with its own block form, for example Empowered Enori Crystal.[8]
Black Quartz is the other key material. It goes into the Basic Coil, which the early machines below build on.[8]

Basic coil machines
- Crusher has a recipe that includes the Basic Coil.[8]
- Auto-Breaker (the Auto-Breaker) and Coffee Maker (the Coffee Maker) also use the Basic Coil, and both take a Void Crystal.[8]
- Battery Box combines the Basic Coil with an Energizer and an Enervator.[8]
- Coal Generator has a recipe changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default.[8]

How does Actually Additions work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, Actually Additions connects to other mods mainly through Ex Deorum sieving, a Productive Bees conversion, and a few late-game crafted items. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes and quests.[5][6][8]
Sieving Actually Additions materials (Ex Deorum)
You don't have to find some Actually Additions materials in the world, because the pack adds sieve recipes for them. Sifting Dirt with a Flint Mesh, Iron Mesh, Golden Mesh, Diamond Mesh or Netherite Mesh can give you Canola Seeds, Coffee Beans and Flax Seeds.[8]
Black Quartz comes from sifting Sand instead.[8]

Sieve (exdeorum)

The quest "Flax String" quest in the Food and Farming chapter ties into this. It comes after the quest Punch the Grass and accepts Flax Seeds from several mods, including Actually Additions. Its text says some of them grow string directly while others give an alternative that works in recipes.[5]
Black Quartz and Productive Bees
A Productive Bees conversion recipe uses Block of Black Quartz and is marked as changed by the pack. The quest "Black Quartz Bee" quest in the Productive Bees chapter asks you to feed a Black Quartz Block to a Crystalline Bee, and the Block of Black Quartz is one of its tasks.[6][8]

Late-game pack items that need Actually Additions parts
Some pack-added crafting recipes pull in an Actually Additions item alongside parts from many other mods. The Ender Star is part of the Dragon Soul recipe. The Empowered Canola Seeds is part of the Philosopher's Fuel recipe. The Player Interface is part of the Wither's Compass recipe.[8]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Actually Additions?
2 parts
Actually Additions has no questline of its own in this pack. Its items turn up inside quests from other chapters, in Food and Farming and in Productive Bees.[5][6]
Food and Farming: Flax String
"Flax String" quest is the quest in this chapter that involves the mod. It unlocks after the quest "Punch the Grass". The idea is to grow your own string instead of relying on spiders.[5]
The task accepts flax seeds from several mods, and Flax Seeds is among the accepted options. The quest text says some of these let you grow string directly, while others give you an alternative that works in recipes.[5]
Productive Bees: Black Quartz Bee
"Black Quartz Bee" quest sits in the Productive Bees chapter. The goal is to feed a Block of Black Quartz to a Crystalline Bee.[6]
The quest has a Productive Bees item task and an Actually Additions item task. The first accepts a configurable honeycomb, a configurable comb, a configurable bee spawn egg, a bee cage or a sturdy bee cage. The other asks for the Block of Black Quartz from Actually Additions.[6]
This quest unlocks after the quest with the ID 17419401147B5C02.[6]
What changed in Actually Additions between versions?
2 parts
All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.6.1 ships Actually Additions 1.3.20 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. The two most recent mod releases are small fix updates.[2]
1.3.20
1.3.19
- Added a missing Ender Star recipe.[13]
- Added missing null checks to the worm to prevent crashes.[13]
- Added null checks to other items and blocks to prevent crashes.[13]
If you are on 1.6.1, you already have all of these fixes, since the pack includes 1.3.20.[2][12][13]
