What is Farming for Blockheads?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Farming for Blockheads is the farming and food helper mod in the pack. The pack ships version 21.1.13 for NeoForge 1.21.1. It has no in-jar guidebook, so the pack's quest book is the best place to see how it fits in.[1]

In the quests, the mod shows up in the "Food and Farming" chapter and in a side quest in the "Apothic Spawners" chapter. It is aimed at players who want to speed up crop growth, collect eggs without effort, or buy supplies when a Skyblock start leaves you short of animals.[2][3]

What it adds in the quest book

The fertilizer quests unlock after the "Improving Growth" quest, so they come once you start looking at growth speed. The Market quest comes after "Mary had a Little Lamb", which makes it an early-to-mid option for getting animals and supplies.[2]

Unverified The sources do not show any pack-specific changes to this mod's recipes or configs. They also do not show whether it sits on the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with Farming for Blockheads?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

In a skyblock start, animals and farm supplies are hard to come by. Farming for Blockheads helps with both, so this is the order I'd make things in.[2][3]

Craft the Market first

Start with the Market. The quest "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest sits after "Mary had a Little Lamb" in the Food and Farming chapter. It says the Market gives you a villager who sells you items for emeralds, usually just 1 Emerald per item.[2]

The Market also solves the animal problem. The quest a quest in "Apothic Spawners" in the Apothic Spawners chapter explains that you can buy Spawn Eggs of certain animals there at the cost of a Diamond, and the quest hands you a Diamond to get started.[3]

Animal helpers

Once you have chickens, the Chicken Nest collects the eggs they lay. The quest "Egg Automation" quest covers it and comes after "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun".[2][4]

The Feeding Trough auto-feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate, which makes breeding a lot less hands-on.[4]

Boost your crops with fertilizer

The fertilizer quests all come after the Improving Growth quest in the Food and Farming chapter. Each fertilizer does something different:[2]

Watch out: Red and green fertilizer conflict, so pick one of them for a given field. Yellow works alongside either.[2]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for red and green fertilizer, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod. Yellow fertilizer still uses the mod's own recipe.[5]

The pack also changed the Market's own entries for all of these fertilizers, so you can buy them there as well as craft them.[5]

How does Farming for Blockheads work?

4 parts

Farming for Blockheads is a small, friendly mod built around a few single blocks and its own fertilizers. Here is what the sources show about how each piece works in this pack.[4][6]

Chicken Nest

The Chicken Nest collects eggs laid by chickens. It only picks up eggs laid within a certain range of the nest, and that range is a mod option, so keep your chickens close.[4]

This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack has not changed it.

Feeding Trough

The Feeding Trough automatically feeds nearby animals that are ready to mate. Two mod options limit it: the range within which it can feed animals, and a maximum number of animals (counted per type). Once that maximum is reached, the trough stops feeding.[4]

Also an unchanged mod recipe.

Fertilizers and Fertilized Farmland

The mod adds Green Fertilizer, Red Fertilizer and Yellow Fertilizer. Green Fertilizer increases crop output: it gives a chance at a bonus crop. Red Fertilizer gives a chance at a bonus growth.[4]

The mod also has Fertilized Farmland blocks. They come in healthy, rich and stable variants, including combinations such as healthy and stable, and the mod groups them with tags for each kind. All of them show up under the same name, Fertilized Farmland.[4][7][8][9][10]

Fertilized Farmland does not last forever. Each time it provides a bonus, there is a chance it turns back into regular Farmland. If you break it, it drops plain dirt.[4][11][12][13][14][15]

The pack changed the crafting recipes for Green Fertilizer and Red Fertilizer, while the Yellow Fertilizer crafting recipe is the mod's own. Each of these recipes makes 4 fertilizers.[6]

Market and Merchant

The Market is a block with its own screen, and the Merchant is a related entity. The Market has a lower half, and only that half drops the Market item when broken. The Market sells things in groups. By default the groups are seeds, saplings and fertilizers. In this pack, the Market entries for Green, Red and Yellow Fertilizer are all marked as changed by the pack.[4][6][16]

The mod has options to shape what the Market offers:[4]

  • Included groups: a list of groups to enable. 'default' is an alias for the built-in groups selling.seeds, selling.saplings and selling.fertilizers.minecraft.[4]
  • Excluded groups: a list of groups to disable, and it has precedence over the included groups. Excluding 'selling.seeds', for example, removes all seeds from the Market.[4]
  • Presets: one list disables default presets and another enables optional presets.[4]
  • Merchant names: a list of names the Merchant can have.[4]
  • Treat merchants like babies: if true, merchants are considered babies on a technical level only. This may resolve exploits based on merchant death loot.[4]

Unverified The actual values of the mod's options (nest range, trough range and animal limit, the bonus and regression chances, and the Market's Merchant settings) are set in the mod's config, and the sources here do not show them. The Market prices for the fertilizers are not shown either.

How do you progress through Farming for Blockheads?

4 parts

The pack's quest book places Farming for Blockheads items in the "Food and Farming" chapter, in the group "The Basics". A few of them also show up in the Apothic Spawners chapter, which is in the group "Mod specific Quests". Here is the order the quest book takes you through them.[17][18]

Step 1: Fertilizers

Three fertilizer quests, one per colour, unlock after "Improving Growth" quest, the plain bone meal quest. Each one asks you to hand in the fertilizer item itself. The effects below are what the quest texts say, not something checked against the mod's own files.[17]

The pack changes the red and green fertilizer crafting recipes. The yellow crafting recipe is the mod's own. The pack also lists each fertilizer as a Market offer, and each of those Market entries is a pack change too.[6]

The mod also has fertilized farmland blocks in healthy, rich and stable variants, plus healthy stable and rich stable combinations. Breaking any of them drops plain dirt.[7][11][12][13][14][15]

Step 2: Chickens and the Chicken Nest

After "We're doing this the Old Fashioned way" quest (the Lead quest), the quest book gives you "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun" quest, which asks for an egg. That leads to "Egg Automation" quest, which asks for the Chicken Nest. The quest's subtitle calls it humane egg collection.[6][17]

        Step 3: The Market

The Lead quest also starts a wool line: "It's Clippin' Time" quest, then "Mary had a Little Lamb" quest, then "Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest. That last quest asks for the Market. Its text says the Market gives you a villager who can sell anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[6][17]

The Market comes up again in the Apothic Spawners chapter, in a quest in "Apothic Spawners". That quest's text lists it among the ways to get Spawn Eggs, since animals can be hard to find in a Skyblock world. It says you can buy Spawn Eggs of certain animals at the cost of a Diamond.[18]

        Feeding Trough

The Feeding Trough is craftable with the mod's own recipe, which the pack does not change.[6]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Farming for Blockheads?

        2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

In the pack's quest book, Farming for Blockheads shows up in the Food and Farming chapter and in the Apothic Spawners chapter. Most of it is in Food and Farming. Each quest below is unlocked by an earlier quest, so I'll give what each one asks for and what it follows.[2][3]

        Food and Farming

The fertilizer quests all unlock after the quest named Improving Growth, so you can take them in any order once that one is done. Each one asks you to obtain a different fertilizer.[2]

Tip: Red and green fertilizer conflict, so you choose between faster growth and bigger harvests. Yellow can be used alongside either, according to the quest text.[2]

"Egg Automation" quest comes after the quest named "I'm not gonna make an Egg pun". It asks you to obtain a Chicken Nest, and the quest calls it humane egg collection.[2]

"Purchasing Farm Supplies" quest comes after the quest named "Mary had a Little Lamb". It asks for a Market. The quest text says the Market gives you a villager who can sell you anything for emeralds, usually 1 Emerald per item.[2]

        Apothic Spawners

a quest in "Apothic Spawners" also asks for a Market, and it unlocks after another quest in that same chapter. The quest text explains that animals can be hard to find in a Skyblock world, so the Market lets you buy Spawn Eggs of certain animals at the cost of a Diamond. The quest also says it gives you a Diamond on the house.[3]

What changed in Farming for Blockheads between versions?

Farming for Blockheads has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier, and All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.7 ships version 21.1.14 of it.[19]

The one change the sources show for that version is a fix: 21.1.14 stopped the recipe error log spam that happened on load. You won't see anything different in play, but your logs stay a lot cleaner when you're hunting for real problems.[20]

The sources here don't list any pack changelog entries for this mod, so there's nothing else I can confirm about how it has changed between pack releases.[19][20]
