What is Ender IO?
1 part
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod. It brings machines, conduits, inventory management, armor, tools, weapons and even mobs. If you like building automated setups and moving items, fluids and power around your base without a mess of pipes, this mod is for you.[1]
Conduits are the heart of it. The mod lists item, fluid, energy and redstone conduits, plus Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemical conduits.[1]
This pack ships Ender IO 8.2.12-beta. The mod is being rewritten from the ground up for the latest Minecraft, and its team says some features have not been ported yet. If you remember something from an older version, it may not be here.[1][2]
Where it fits in the pack's progression
Ender IO items turn up in several quest chapters, so you will meet the mod gradually. The quest entries have no titles, so all I can confirm is which items they ask for.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
- Technology chapter: it starts with Grains of Infinity in a quest in "?". After that comes the Alloy Smelter in a quest in "?", and the SAG Mill with a grinding ball in a quest in "?". The Slice'N'Splice follows the alloy smelter in a quest in "?".[3]
- Power chapter: a quest in "?" accepts a Basic Capacitor Bank, an Advanced Capacitor Bank or a Vibrant Capacitor Bank.[6]
- Processing and automation chapter: a quest in "?" asks for the Yeta Wrench and a conduit.[7]
- Gearing up chapter: the Enchanter in a quest in "?" and the dark steel sword, called The Ender, in a quest in "?".[4]
- Exploration and combat chapter: a quest in "?" covers the Staff of Travelling and the Travel Anchor.[5]
- Resource generation chapter: a quest in "?" asks for the Soul Vial, Soul Binder, Broken Spawner and Powered Spawner.[8]
- Later on, a quest in "?" in the World Engine tier 5 chapter asks for the Enchanter again, alongside the Printer.[9]
How do you get started with Ender IO?
6 parts
Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod, and in this pack the quest book gives you a good order to work through. Here is the path I'd take, starting with the technology chapter.[1][10]
Start with Grains of Infinity
The technology chapter quest a quest in "?" asks for Grains of Infinity. The Alloy Smelter and Sag Mill quests both come after it, so this is your starting point.[10]
The grains matter beyond the quest too, because the pack's recipes for the Basic Capacitor and the Yeta Wrench both call for a grains dust. The pack also has XyCraft Machines extractor recipes that output the grains, marked as changed or added by the pack.[11]
Alloy Smelter
Next comes a quest in "?", which asks you to craft the Alloy Smelter. The pack adds its own crafting recipe for it, shown below.[10][11]
Crafting Shaped
| any iron gear | any iron gear | |
| any iron ingot | any obsidian | any iron ingot |
Recipe id: enderio:alloy_smelter
After that quest, a quest in "?" follows. It asks for the Slice'N'Splice, so you can come back to it later.[10]
Sag Mill and a grinding ball
a quest in "?" also follows the grains quest. It wants the SAG Mill plus a grinding ball, and the quest accepts any of the grinding ball types listed in it.[10]
Each grinding ball has its own recipe added by the pack. The copper alloy one is shown here as an example.[11]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: enderio:copper_alloy_grinding_ball
One of the grinding balls the quest accepts.
The pack also adds a Sag Mill recipe that turns deepslate cobblestone into Grains of Infinity and regular cobblestone. That gives you another way to get grains once the mill is running.[11]
Capacitors and a capacitor bank
a quest in "?" in the power chapter accepts a basic, advanced or vibrant capacitor bank. The basic route is the simplest, so make the capacitor first and then the bank.[12]

What to chase after that
- The Enchanter and the The Ender each have a quest in the gearing up chapter: a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[14]
- a quest in "?" in the exploration and combat chapter asks for the Staff of Travelling and a Travel Anchor.[15]
- a quest in "?" in the resource generation chapter covers the Soul Vial, Soul Binder, Broken Spawner and Powered Spawner.[16]
How does Ender IO work?
8 parts
Ender IO is a big tech mod covering machines, conduits, armor, tools, weapons, enchantments and decorative blocks. Its machines run on energy that the pack's config measures in uI, with capacities in uI and consumption in uI/t. This section covers what the sources confirm about how that power works, plus the filters, obelisks and conduit types.[1][17]
Machine power draw and capacity
Every machine has a base energy capacity and a base usage per tick. Apart from a few changes covered further down, the pack leaves these at the mod's defaults. Here are the values you will run into most.[17]
- Alloy Smelter (Alloy Smelter): capacity is 64,000 uI (energy.alloySmelter.capacity) and usage is 20 uI/t (energy.alloySmelter.usage). Smelting a vanilla item costs 1,500 uI (energy.alloySmelter.vanillaItemEnergy).[11][17]
- SAG Mill: 64,000 uI capacity (energy.sagMill.capacity) and 20 uI/t usage (energy.sagMill.usage).[17]
- Slicer: 100,000 uI capacity (energy.slicer.capacity) and 30 uI/t usage (energy.slicer.usage).[17]
- Soul Binder: 128,000 uI capacity (energy.soulBinder.capacity) and 60 uI/t usage (energy.soulBinder.usage).[17]
- Painting Machine: 64,000 uI capacity (energy.paintingMachine.capacity) and 30 uI/t usage (energy.paintingMachine.usage). Each painting operation costs 2,400 uI (energy.paintingMachine.energyCost).[17]
- Crafter: 64,000 uI capacity (energy.crafter.capacity), and each crafting recipe costs 3,200 uI (energy.crafter.usage).[17]
- Powered Spawner: 100,000 uI capacity (energy.poweredSpawner.capacity) and 20 uI/t usage (energy.poweredSpawner.usage). Mobs without custom spawner soul data cost 50,000 uI to spawn (poweredSpawner.defaultSpawnEnergyCost).[17]
- Farm: 10 uI/t usage (energy.farm.usage) and 64,000 uI capacity (energy.farm.capacity).[17]
- Drain: 10 uI/t usage (energy.drain.usage) and 64,000 uI capacity (energy.drain.capacity).[17]
- Impulse Hopper: 16 uI/t usage (energy.impulseHopper.usage) and 64,000 uI capacity (energy.impulseHopper.capacity).[17]
What the pack changed
The pack lowered a few power draws. energy.aversion.usage, energy.inhibitor.usage and energy.relocator.usage are each 10 uI/t here instead of the mod default of 20. energy.wiredCharger.usage is 30 uI/t instead of the default 60.[17]
Generating and storing power
The Stirling Generator produces a base 40 uI/t (energy.stirlingGenerator.generation) and holds 64,000 uI (energy.stirlingGenerator.capacity). Its burn speed is 0.375 burn ticks per machine tick (energy.stirlingGenerator.burnSpeed). Fuel efficiency starts at a base of 80 percent (energy.stirlingGenerator.fuelEfficiencyBase) and rises by 20 per capacitor level (energy.stirlingGenerator.fuelEfficiencyStep). All of these are the mod defaults.[17]
The Soul Engine has a base burn speed of 1 (energy.soulEngine.burnSpeed) and a generation setting of 1 (energy.soulEngine.generation), which the config describes as a percentage increase in uI produced. The Energetic photovoltaic cell produces 4 at midday without rain or thunder (energy.photovoltaicCellRates.energetic).[17]
For bulk storage, the basic capacitor bank holds 500,000 uI (energy.capacitorBankCapacity.basic). The pack has its own recipes for the capacitor banks. You craft the basic bank from a Basic Capacitor, and the advanced bank has both a direct recipe and an upgrade recipe that starts from a basic bank.[11][17]

The wired charger holds 128,000 uI (energy.wiredCharger.capacity). The wireless charger also holds 128,000 uI (energy.wirelessCharger.capacity), charges at 60 uI/t (energy.wirelessCharger.chargeRate) and costs 2 uI/t in upkeep (energy.wirelessCharger.energyUpkeep).[17]
Crafting the Alloy Smelter
The pack adds its own recipe for the Alloy Smelter, so check the in-pack version below rather than relying on older guides.[11]
Crafting Shaped

Obelisks
Obelisks work over an area, and their base ranges come from the config. The Attractor Obelisk reaches 8 (obelisks.attractorRange). The Aversion Obelisk reaches 16 (obelisks.aversionRange), as do the Inhibitor (obelisks.inhibitorRange) and the Relocator (obelisks.relocatorRange). The Attractor does not attract bosses here, because obelisks.attractorAttractBosses is false.[17]
On power, the Attractor holds 64,000 uI (energy.attractor.capacity) and so does the Aversion Obelisk (energy.aversion.capacity).[17]

Enchanter costs
The enchanter adds a base level cost of 2 to every recipe (enchanter.baseLevelCost). The lapis cost is the enchant level multiplied by 3 (enchanter.lapisCostFactor). The final XP cost is multiplied by 0.75 (enchanter.levelCostFactor), so enchantments come out cheaper than the unscaled cost.[17]
Conduits, filters and automation
Ender IO moves things around with conduits. The mod's page lists these conduit types: Item, Fluid, Energy, Redstone, Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism Chemicals.[1]
The pack adds a recipe that turns an AE2 glass cable into an Conduit Bundle using a Conduit Binder. It also has matching recipes for AE2 covered and dense covered cables.[11]

How do you progress through Ender IO?
7 parts
Ender IO progression in this pack isn't one neat chapter. The quests are spread across technology, power, processing and automation, gearing up, exploration and combat, and resource generation. Every quest is untitled and none of them labels a tier, so the order below follows the quest dependencies and the in-pack recipes.[10][12][13][14][15][16]
Start with Grains of Infinity
Everything in the technology chapter hangs off a quest in "?", which asks you to get Grains of Infinity. The pack adds a sag milling recipe that turns deepslate cobblestone into grains plus regular cobblestone. It also changes an extractor recipe from xycraft_machines and adds a campfire variant. Neither extractor recipe shows any item inputs.[10][11]
Grains are the key ingredient for your first tools. You need them for the wrench and the basic capacitor.[11]

How does Ender IO work with other mods?
4 parts
Ender IO doesn't sit in its own corner of the pack. Its items show up in recipes from Mekanism, Create, AE2, ProjectE and more, and the pack added or changed most of those recipes. Here's what the recipe dump shows.[11]
Mekanism pipes into Ender IO conduits
The pack adds several recipes that make an Conduit Bundle from Mekanism transport parts: the Basic, Advanced and Elite pressurized tubes and the Advanced Thermodynamic Conductor, each paired with a Conduit Binder. Two upgrade recipes are built around Mekanism's Infused Alloy and Reinforced Alloy. Some of the exact recipes are below.[11]

The Ender IO project page also lists Mekanism chemicals, Applied Energistics 2 ME and Refined Storage among its conduit types. It doesn't say which of those are active in this pack, so check in-game before you plan a build around them.[1]
Food, wrenches and gateways
The pack-added "Enderios" recipe is where AE2's Ender Dust comes in, and the pack-added enderio:cake_base alloy smelting recipe is where Create's Wheat Flour comes in. The exact recipes are below.[11]
Alloy Smelting (enderio)

Quests
The Ender IO quests in the chapters provided (technology, gearing up, exploration and combat, power, processing and automation, and resource generation) only ask for Ender IO items, such as the Alloy Smelter, SAG Mill and Travel Anchor. None of them combines Ender IO items with items from another mod.[10][12][13][14][15][16]
Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Ender IO?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide
Ender IO shows up in seven quest chapters in this pack. Every one of these quests is untitled, so they are identified by their tasks. Most ask you to obtain a machine or item rather than do anything complicated.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
Technology chapter (the only clear chain)
This chapter has the only Ender IO quest chain with a confirmed order. The starting point is a quest in "?", which asks for Grains of Infinity. Two quests unlock after it.[3]
- a quest in "?": hand in Grains of Infinity.[3]
- a quest in "?": get an Alloy Smelter. This quest unlocks after the Grains of Infinity quest.[3]
- a quest in "?": get a SAG Mill and also one grinding ball. Several grinding balls are accepted, for example Pulsating Alloy Grinding Ball, Energetic Alloy Grinding Ball, Vibrant Alloy Grinding Ball, Dark Steel Grinding Ball or End Steel Grinding Ball. This quest also unlocks after the Grains of Infinity quest, so it runs in parallel with the Alloy Smelter quest.[3]
- a quest in "?": get a Slice'N'Splice. This quest unlocks after the Alloy Smelter quest.[3]
Other chapters
- Gearing Up: a quest in "?" asks for an Enchanter, and a quest in "?" asks for The Ender, listed as The Ender.[4]
- Exploration and Combat: a quest in "?" asks for both the Staff of Travelling and a Travel Anchor.[5]
- Power: a quest in "?" accepts any one of Basic Capacitor Bank, Advanced Capacitor Bank or Vibrant Capacitor Bank, so you can submit whichever tier you build first.[6]
- Processing and Automation: a quest in "?" asks for a Yeta Wrench plus a conduit.[7]
- Resource Generation: a quest in "?" asks for four items: Soul Vial, Soul Binder, Broken Spawner and Powered Spawner.[8]
- World Engine, Tier 5: a quest in "?" asks for an Enchanter together with the printer from Create Enchantment Industry. It unlocks after another quest in that chapter, which is not an Ender IO quest.[9]
Unverified The sources don't say how the chapters are ordered relative to each other, only the dependencies within the technology chapter and the one listed in World Engine, Tier 5. Quest rewards for these quests are also not shown.
Which Ender IO config options matter?
7 parts
Good news: the pack leaves almost all of Ender IO's machine and item settings alone. The only values the machines and base config files mark as changed from the mod default are a few machine energy-use settings, and each one is half the default. Everything else below is shown as the pack sets it.[17][18]
What the pack changed
- energy.aversion.usage is 10 uI/t in the pack (mod default 20).[17]
- energy.inhibitor.usage is 10 uI/t in the pack (mod default 20).[17]
- energy.relocator.usage is 10 uI/t in the pack (mod default 20).[17]
- energy.wiredCharger.usage is 30 uI/t in the pack (mod default 60).[17]
In short, the Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator obelisks and the wired charger are cheaper to keep running than in a default Ender IO install.[17]
Obelisks and chargers
- obelisks.attractorRange is 8.[17]
- obelisks.aversionRange is 16.[17]
- obelisks.inhibitorRange is 16.[17]
- obelisks.relocatorRange is 16.[17]
- obelisks.attractorAttractBosses is false, so the Attractor Obelisk won't pull in bosses.[17]
- The wireless charger's wirelessCharger.baseRange is 16.[17]
Powered Spawner
The Powered Spawner uses the mod defaults: poweredSpawner.spawnAmount is 4, poweredSpawner.maxEntities is 2, poweredSpawner.maxSpawners is 10 and poweredSpawner.defaultSpawnEnergyCost is 50,000. poweredSpawner.spawnType is set to NEW, which spawns the same entity types as the soul vial rather than exact copies of the mob.[17]
Power storage and generation
- energy.capacitorBankCapacity.basic is 500,000, the mod default.[17]
- energy.capacitorBankCapacity.advanced is 2,000,000, the mod default.[17]
- energy.capacitorBankCapacity.vibrant is 4,000,000, the mod default.[17]
- The Stirling Generator's energy.stirlingGenerator.generation is 40 uI/t, the mod default.[17]
- energy.photovoltaicCellRates.energetic is 4, the mod default.[17]
- energy.photovoltaicCellRates.pulsating is 16, the mod default.[17]
- energy.photovoltaicCellRates.vibrant is 64, the mod default.[17]
energy.throttleEnergyUsage is true, so machines throttle their energy input to 2x their consumption rate.[17]
Travel and utility items
- items.travelling.blinkRange is 24.[18]
- items.travelling.blockToBlockRange is 96.[18]
- items.travelling.itemToBlockRange is 192.[18]
- items.travelling.energyUse is 1,000.[18]
- items.travelling.maxEnergy is 100,000.[18]
- The electromagnet's items.electromagnet.range is 5.[18]
- The electromagnet's items.electromagnet.maxItems is 20.[18]
All of these match the mod defaults.[18]
Enchanter
The enchanter is set to enchanter.baseLevelCost = 2, enchanter.lapisCostFactor = 3 and enchanter.levelCostFactor = 0.75. The sources don't list mod defaults for these three, so I can't say whether the pack changed them.[17]
Dark Steel upgrades
The armory config doesn't show mod defaults, so these are simply the pack's values. The empowered upgrade's energy capacity grows with each level:[19]
- darksteel.upgrades.empowered.maxEnergy_l1 is 100,000.[19]
- darksteel.upgrades.empowered.maxEnergy_l2 is 150,000.[19]
- darksteel.upgrades.empowered.maxEnergy_l3 is 250,000.[19]
- darksteel.upgrades.empowered.maxEnergy_l4 is 1,000,000.[19]
The speed upgrade's boost also rises with level:[19]
What changed in Ender IO between versions?
4 parts
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.6.0 ships Ender IO 8.0.7-alpha (the file enderio-8.0.7-alpha.jar), and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for Ender IO, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for the latest alpha releases.[20]
8.0.7-alpha (the version in this pack)
The changelog calls this a hotfix release for issues in 8.0, made while the developers work on 8.1. The one bug fix it lists is a hang-on-load when using the attractor obelisk.[21]
8.0.6-alpha
- The changelog lists a fix for a crash-on-load issue with conduits (#1177).[22]
- The changelog lists a fix for a crash when the attractor obelisk was next to a flux point or another block that reacts to neighbors (#1179).[22]
8.0.5-alpha
The changelog describes a small update with a couple of new features and a bugfix. It says the release contains bugfixes made for Ender IO 8.1, which it calls still work in progress, that shouldn't wait until that work is completed.[23]
- New: resulting vials can stack in the powered spawner when using capture mode.[23]
- New: improved filtering of souls and stacking of soul vials, by filtering the stored NBT.[23]
- Fixed issues with dense and normal ME conduits connecting.[23]
- Fixed a significant conduit network slowdown due to a cache not being cleared.[23]
- Fixed a crash (and a Jade error) from breaking a conduit facade painted as an ME controller.[23]
- Fixed an issue with item filters.[23]
Experiments and addon notes
Each of these changelogs lists the same experiments: dark steel tools and armor (a very early start, so expect breaking changes), The Ender IO (early work in progress) and the Farming Machine (described as nearly there). The changelogs describe experiments as new features locked behind feature flags.[21][22][23]
If you write addons, each of these changelogs warns of extensive API breaks and says the developers are not finished. They recommend waiting until a package reshuffle that they say they have planned for later in the v8 alpha phase before updating addons.[21][22][23]
