XyCraft Machines in FTB StoneBlock 4

This pack ships XyCraft Machines version 0.7.53. The sources here don't include a description of the mod or an in-mod guide, so this overview sticks to what the pack's quest book shows: where the mod appears and what the quests ask for.^[1]

Where it shows up in the quest book

You first meet the mod in the resource generation chapter. The quest "Xycraft's Extractor" quest has a single task: get the Extractor. That makes the Extractor your entry point to the mod in this pack.^[2]

The mod comes back in the World Engine tier 5 chapter. Two quests there, "Powering The Void" quest and "Auto-Build The Dark Void Upgrade" quest, each have two tasks: the Void Container and the Dark Matter Block. Each of those quests comes after a different earlier quest.^[3]

Several machines in this pack share ingredients, so a good first step is to make those shared parts. Here is the order I'd go in.^[4]

Start with the Machine Base. Machines such as the Fabricator, Valve, Item IO and Light Field are built on it, so you will want several.^[4]

Ports and a wrench

Ports are the second shared part. The Item Port, Fluid Port and Energy Port are all shapeless recipes, and the Buffer, Valve and Charger are machines you can make from them. The pack changed the Energy Port recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.^[4]

The Item IO tooltip says its fill or drain side can be toggled with a wrench, so it is worth crafting the Aluminum Wrench early.^[4][5]

The Extractor

Next comes the Extractor. Its tooltip says it extracts items and fluids out of the environment. The pack adds its own recipe for it, and the quest "Xycraft's Extractor" quest in the resource generation chapter has you obtain one.^[2][4][5]

A good first use is making Resin with the extractor. From there you can cast it into a Resin Ball with the pack's Gem Cast casting recipe, and compact a Resin Ball into a Block of Resin. The recipes are shown below.^[4]

Looking ahead

The Void Container comes much later. Its recipe is added by the pack, and its tooltip says it can be used to void things. It also appears as a task in two quests in the World Engine tier 5 chapter: "Powering The Void" quest and "Auto-Build The Dark Void Upgrade" quest. Don't worry about it until you have the basics running.^[3][4][5]

XyCraft Machines is built around single-purpose machines that you link up with ports, tanks and valves. The sources for this pack describe what each machine does, but not the numbers behind them, so this section sticks to what is confirmed.^[4][5]

The building blocks

Many machines start from a Machine Base. The Valve, Item IO, Fabricator and Light Field recipes all use one. Other recipes use a port block instead: Item Port, Fluid Port, Energy Port or Chemical Port.^[4]

The Hydro Pump automatically pumps water into a connected tank. Its tooltip says it can be extracted from at a higher rate, and it lists a base rate and a waterlogged rate, both per cycle. The tooltip only shows these as placeholders, so the actual amounts are not visible in the sources.^[4][5]

Light and spawn control

The Light Field prevents spawns in a cubed volume. The Illumination Field illuminates a volume of area. The Flare Rod consumes something to place a light. The pack changes the Illumination Field and Flare Rod recipes.^[4][5]

Unverified Details such as energy capacities, transfer rates, tank sizes and the Hydro Pump's per-cycle amounts are not shown in the sources here. There is no in-jar guidebook found for this mod and no config files for it in the pack, so check these values in game.

XyCraft Machines doesn't have a clean, numbered tier ladder in this pack. What the pack does give you is a few quest checkpoints and a set of recipes, some of them rewritten by the pack, and together they suggest an order to follow. Here's a walk from the first crafts to the endgame.^[2][3][4]

Stage 3: utility machines and gear

After the basics you can pick the machines you need. Several of these recipes are the mod's own. They include the Fabricator, Collector, Buffer, Hydro Pump, Fluid Void, Ignition Plate, Light Field and Soaryn Box.^[4]

The pack changed how these are made, so look them up in the recipe viewer before you plan a build: Charger, Isolator, Energy Pipe, Accelerated Planter, Water Block, Flare Rod, Illumination Field, Hover Pack and Hover Pylon.^[4]

The endgame

The other XyCraft Machines checkpoints are in the tier 5 chapter of the World Engine quests. Quests "Powering The Void" quest and "Auto-Build The Dark Void Upgrade" quest there each ask for a Void Container and a Dark Matter Block. Each one unlocks only after an earlier quest in that chapter. The pack added the Void Container recipe itself.^[3][4]

Machine-processed materials

The mod also has its own processing recipe types. The ore tap produces steam, ore slurry and super heated ore with no item inputs, and the atmospheric vacuum produces nitrogen the same way. An ark melter recipe turns water into steam.^[4]

XyCraft Machines doesn't live on its own in this pack. A few recipes and quests tie it to other mods, and the biggest one is the Void Container.^[3][4]

Void Container: a multi-mod recipe

The pack adds its own shaped recipe for the Void Container, and the exact in-pack version is shown below. It reaches into several other mods, plus XyCraft's own world content.^[4]

Resin and the Gem Cast

The pack adds a casting recipe that links Resin and the Resin Ball with the Gem Cast from Productive Metalworks. Because the pack adds this recipe, it is a link made specifically for this pack. The recipe is shown below.^[4]

Refinery and shared tags

The XyCraft refinery has an aluminum recipe that takes Ore Slurry and an Aluminum Ingot. It also takes any item in the common nitrogens tag, so the third input is not tied to one specific item. This is a regular mod recipe, not a pack change.^[4]

Quest book note

The Extractor has its own quest, "Xycraft's Extractor" quest, in the resource generation chapter. It only asks for the Extractor itself, so it isn't a cross-mod task.^[2]

XyCraft Machines appears in two quest chapters in this pack. The quests are untitled, so the quest links below are what tell them apart.^[2][3]

Resource generation chapter

This chapter has one XyCraft Machines quest, "Xycraft's Extractor" quest. Its only task is to hand in an Extractor. The chapter listing shows no earlier quest that has to be finished before it.^[2]

World Engine, Tier 5 chapter

This chapter has XyCraft Machines quests that ask for the same things. Each one asks you to submit an Void Container and an Dark Matter Block.^[3]

• "Powering The Void" quest unlocks after one earlier quest in the chapter.^[3]
• "Auto-Build The Dark Void Upgrade" quest unlocks after a different earlier quest in the chapter.^[3]

Each quest depends on its own earlier quest, so they are not chained one after the other. Treat them as separate branches that happen to ask for the same items.^[3]
