FTB Unearthed is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 21.1.10. Unearth the worlds potential using brushes, with the help of your friendly villagers! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is FTB Unearthed?

This pack ships FTB Unearthed version 21.1.10. The pack's quest book puts the mod's items in the Getting Started chapter, so you meet it early rather than as an endgame extra.[1][2]

The four Unearthed items below each appear as a quest task, and the last three quests form one chain, so you can use them as a rough roadmap.[2]

  1. Quest "The Strands of Time" quest asks for the Crude Brush.[2]
  2. Quest "The First World Craft" quest has three tasks: the item irons_spellbooks:amethyst_resonance_charm, an observation task, and the Echo Encoder.[2]
  3. Quest "A Token of the Mindless" quest comes right after that and asks for the Worker Token.[2]
  4. Quest "Putting Villagers To Work" quest follows it and asks for the Unearther, which is the Unearther.[2]

Going by the quest order, the Crude Brush is the entry point, and the Worker Token and Unearther come after the Echo Encoder quest.[2]

Unverified What the Unearther actually does, how its items are crafted in this pack, and any pack-specific config changes are not confirmed by the available sources, so this overview doesn't describe them. The quest titles are also blank, so the quest chain is the only guidance on progression.

How do you get started with FTB Unearthed?

5 parts

This pack gives FTB Unearthed its own quest line in the getting_started chapter, and the order below follows it: brush first, then Echo Encoder, Worker Token and finally the Unearther. The quests in that chapter are untitled, so I point to them by ID.[2]

First: make a Crude Brush

Your first Unearthed task is to get a Crude Brush ("The Strands of Time" quest). The recipe was added by the pack, so use the one below and not whatever you remember from the mod's defaults.[2][3]

Next: get an Echo Encoder

The next quest, "The First World Craft" quest, has three tasks. You need to hand in an Amethyst Resonance Charm, complete an observation task, and hand in an Echo Encoder.[2]

The Echo Encoder is how you turn a villager into a worker. Sneak and right-click a villager with it to encode that villager into a Worker Token. The tooltip also shows how many charges the encoder has left, so keep an eye on it.[4]

Then: encode a villager into a Worker Token

Once you have the encoder, the next quest asks for a Worker Token ("A Token of the Mindless" quest). It unlocks after the encoder quest, so do them in that order.[2]

Worker tooltips can show a required level, a required profession and a required village type. They also show a progress percentage toward the worker's next level. Which villagers meet which requirements is not covered by my sources.[4]

Last: craft the Unearther

The last quest in this line asks for the Unearther, which is the Unearther ("Putting Villagers To Work" quest). This recipe is also added by the pack.[2][3]

Optional: upgrade to a Reinforced Brush

The pack also has a smithing recipe for the Reinforced Brush. The getting_started quests I have don't ask for it, so you can treat it as an upgrade for later.[2][3]

How does FTB Unearthed work?

4 parts

Here's the honest picture: the sources I have for FTB Unearthed only cover its crafting recipes and a handful of tooltips. That's enough to show you how to get the main tools and how the worker system is set up, but not enough to explain the machine's internals in depth.[3][4]

The Unearther

The Unearther is the Unearther. In this pack it has a custom recipe added by the pack, so check the recipe below rather than relying on any default you may know from the mod.[3]

Brushes

The pack adds its own recipes for the brushes. The Crude Brush is a shaped crafting recipe that uses a pebble tag, so any pebble from that tag works.[3]

The Reinforced Brush is made at a smithing table as a smithing transform rather than in a normal crafting grid.[3]

Workers

FTB Unearthed has a worker system built around villagers. The Echo Encoder turns a villager into a Worker Token: sneak and right-click the villager with it. The item's tooltip also shows how many charges it has left.[4]

Workers have requirements and progression, all shown in tooltips. A worker can require a minimum level, a specific profession and a specific village type. A worker also tracks its progress to the next level as a percentage.[4]

The super brush bonuses

The mod has a tooltip for a "super brush" with these effects: workers and players work faster by a percentage that the tooltip fills in, workers don't consume food, and workers always work at level 5.[4]

Unverified How the Unearther processes items, and any power, fluid, item input or output, or automation details, are not shown in the sources here. No config files for this mod were available either.

How do you progress through FTB Unearthed?

3 parts

FTB Unearthed doesn't have a long tier ladder in this pack. What the sources show is a short quest line in the getting_started chapter, plus three recipes the pack added for the mod's key items. Here is how they fit together.[2][3]

Step 1: The Crude Brush

Your first Unearthed milestone is the Crude Brush, and the quest "The Strands of Time" quest asks you to get one. The pack added its own recipe for it, shown below.[2][3]

Step 2: Echo Encoder, Worker Token and the Unearther

The next three quests form one chain, and each unlocks the next. First comes "The First World Craft" quest, which has three tasks: hold the Amethyst Resonance Charm, complete an observation task, and obtain the Echo Encoder.[2]

After that, "A Token of the Mindless" quest asks for a Worker Token. Finishing it unlocks "Putting Villagers To Work" quest, where you obtain the Unearther, the Unearther.[2]

The Unearther uses a recipe added by the pack, so check this one rather than relying on what you remember from the mod elsewhere.[3]

Tip: The Crude Brush quest and the Echo Encoder quest each depend on a different earlier quest. They are two separate branches of the chapter, so you can work on them in either order.[2]

Upgrading your brush

The pack also adds a smithing recipe that turns a vanilla brush into a Reinforced Brush. This is the upgrade over the Crude Brush, and the recipe uses an Apotheosis smithing template.[3]

Reinforced BrushAdded by the pack

Smithing Transform

Recipe id: ftb:smithing/reinforced_brush

None of the quests in the sources ask for the Reinforced Brush, so it is an optional upgrade rather than a quest requirement.[2][3]

Unverified The sources don't show how to craft or obtain the Echo Encoder or the Worker Token, what the observation task in the Echo Encoder quest requires, or what the Unearther produces. They also don't compare the Crude Brush and Reinforced Brush in speed or drops, so those details are unconfirmed.

How does FTB Unearthed work with other mods?

3 parts

In this pack, FTB Unearthed doesn't stand alone. Several of its items are crafted with, or alongside, items from other mods, and the early quests lead you through that chain. Here is what the recipes and quests actually show.[2][3]

Brushes

The Crude Brush is crafted with Straw, so a Farmer's Delight item is part of your first Unearthed tool. The pack added this recipe, and it also accepts any item from the #ftb:pebble tag. The quest "The Strands of Time" quest in the getting_started chapter asks you to get the Crude Brush.[2][3]

The Reinforced Brush is an upgrade made at a smithing table. The pack added a smithing recipe that uses the Smithing Template from Apotheosis, together with a Brush and a Diamond.[3]

World Engine recipes

Two pack-added Custom Machinery recipes in the world_engine group take Unearthed items as inputs, mixed with items from other mods. The Echo Encoder is combined with an Iron Stick and an Amethyst Resonance Charm. The Worker Token is combined with an Enchanted Spell Book.[3]

Unverified The recipe dump doesn't list what these two World Engine recipes produce, so their outputs are unconfirmed. Check the rendered recipes above or look in the game.

Quest progression

The getting_started chapter ties these items together in order. The quest "The First World Craft" quest has you handle the Amethyst Resonance Charm and the Echo Encoder, and it also has an observation task. "A Token of the Mindless" quest follows it and asks for the Worker Token. After that, "Putting Villagers To Work" quest asks for the Unearther, the Unearther.[2]

Tip: If you're unsure what to do next, follow the getting_started quests in order. They run through the Echo Encoder and the Worker Token before the Unearther.[2]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use FTB Unearthed?

2 parts

In this pack, FTB Unearthed quests all sit in the "getting_started" chapter. None of them has a title in the quest data, so they appear below by their IDs.[2]

The Crude Brush quest

"The Strands of Time" quest asks you to obtain a Crude Brush. It unlocks after another quest in the chapter that does not involve this mod.[2]

The Echo Encoder, Worker Token and Unearther chain

The other quests form a straight line, and each one unlocks the next. Complete them in this order:[2]

  1. "The First World Craft" quest asks you to obtain Amethyst Resonance Charm, complete an observation task, and obtain an Echo Encoder. It unlocks after a quest that does not involve this mod.[2]
  2. "A Token of the Mindless" quest unlocks once the Echo Encoder quest is done. It asks you to obtain a Worker Token.[2]
  3. "Putting Villagers To Work" quest unlocks after the Worker Token quest. It asks you to obtain the Unearther, which is the Unearther.[2]
