What is Gateways To Eternity?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.44 guide

Gateways To Eternity is included in this pack as version 5.0.2, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack for a while, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't describe what Gateways To Eternity does, who it's aimed at, or where it fits in this pack's progression. Check the mod's own documentation or try it in-game for those details.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, so your first job is simply to get a pearl made. This pack gives you several different recipes for it.[2][3]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Start with the Emerald Grove recipe below. It is a recipe from the mod itself that the pack has left alone, so it behaves the way the mod intends.[2]
  2. Next, look at the basic Slime recipe, which is also an unchanged mod recipe. After that, the basic Enderman recipe. The pack changed that one, so don't rely on mod defaults or older guides for it.[2]
  3. Save the other recipes for later. Several of them use items from other mods, and some of them were added by the pack itself, so they take more progress to gather.[2]
  4. Pick an open spot and use the pearl on a block to summon the Gateway.[3]

Watch out: A Gateway can only be summoned if it wouldn't be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them.[3]

Unverified The sources don't confirm what each Gateway fights you with, what rewards it gives, or how the pack changed the Enderman, Hellish Fortress and Overworldian Nights recipes. No quests in this pack involve the mod either, so you'll be working this out by experimenting.

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

4 parts

Gateways To Eternity doesn't have machines, power or fluids to manage. Everything runs through one item, the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, which is a wave-based mob encounter that spawns rewards as you earn them.[3]

Summoning a Gateway

A Gate Pearl only works if the new Gateway wouldn't end up too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If a pearl refuses to work, move further away from any Gateway that's already open and try again.[3]

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you obtain them, so you don't have to wait until the very end to see loot.[3]

How a Gateway can fail

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning in any of these three cases:[3]

  • It cannot spawn a mob.[3]
  • Any active mob walks too far away.[3]
  • The wave timer elapses.[3]
Tip: Because a mob wandering off counts as a failure, fight in a spot where mobs can't easily stray, and keep an eye on the wave timer.[3]

Endless modifiers

The mod has tooltips that show an Endless Modifier count and a numbered Endless Modifier entry. The sources don't explain what these modifiers do, so treat that part as undocumented for now.[3]

Getting Gate Pearls in this pack

Each Gateway type has its own pearl recipe. Some of them use the mod's own gate recipe type, and the pack changed three of them: the basic enderman, hellish fortress and overworldian nights pearls. The basic slime and emerald grove pearls are unchanged mod recipes.[2]

Unverified The sources don't give the exact spacing distance, wave contents, timer lengths or reward tables, and this pack has no config files for the mod. Those details can't be confirmed here.

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the sources I have don't define a tier ladder for this mod, and they don't show any quest chain for it. What they do show is how each Gate Pearl is crafted, so that's what this section covers. Treat the grouping below as a way of reading the recipes, not as an official order of progression.[2]

Unverified No quests in this pack involving this mod were found, so there is no confirmed quest-driven progression path. Which gate is hardest, and the order in which you should tackle them, is also unconfirmed.

Recipes the pack added

Five Gate Pearl recipes were added by the pack itself. They are shaped crafting recipes that pull in items from other mods, so you can't make them from the mod's own recipes alone.[2]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

2 parts

Gateways To Eternity connects to other mods in this pack through one item: the Gate Pearl. Every recipe in the recipe dump that links the mod to another mod ends in a Gate Pearl, and each one draws on a different set of mods. So the Gate Pearl is where you'll meet the rest of the pack's content.[2]

Pack-added Gate Pearl recipes

The pack adds several shaped crafting recipes for the Gate Pearl, each named after a theme. They pull ingredients from Cataclysm, Iron's Spellbooks, Reliquary, Actually Additions and Just Dire Things. Some also accept a whole tag, such as any skull or any nether star, so you have some freedom in what you use.[2]

A changed Gate recipe

The Overworldian Nights recipe is a different kind of recipe. It is a Gateways gate recipe, and the pack changed it. It brings in an Ender IO item alongside vanilla materials, so it connects the mod to Ender IO as well. I can't confirm from the sources what the mod's default version of this recipe looks like, so treat the version below as the pack's own.[2]

Tip: Several of these Gate Pearl recipes lean on Iron's Spellbooks and Reliquary items. Check which of those you can already make before you pick a recipe to go for.[2]
