What is Apothic-Enchanting?
1 part
Apothic Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis. It overhauls vanilla enchanting with Enchanting Stats, which come from bookshelves and other blocks around the table, and it raises the Enchanting Table's max level to 100. This pack ships version 1.6.2.[1][2]
There are three primary stats. Eterna is enchanting strength and raises the level cost, Quanta controls how much randomness is involved, and Arcana raises the number of enchantments you get and makes rare ones more common. Bookshelves must sit in one of 32 valid locations around the table to count.[1]
The mod also adds utilities. Tome of Scrapping pulls half of an item's enchantments and destroys the item. Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them and still destroys the item. Tome of Extraction pulls all of them and leaves the item intact. The Enchantment Library stores your enchanted books as points, so you can stop filling chests with them.[1]
Where it sits in the quest book
The pack's quest book covers this mod in the "Gearing Up" chapter. That is chapter 17 of 41 in the "Exploration" group, and it has 90 quests. The chapter is about crafting, enhancing and enchanting gear, and it mixes in other mods too. The enchanting line starts at "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest, which asks for a vanilla Enchanting Table. The sources show no quest before it. Just before it in the chapter are the Apotheosis quests "Apothic Gems!" quest and "Apothic World Tiers" quest.[3]
From there the shelf quests chain upward, each one unlocking the next tier:[3]
- Side quests that follow "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest: "Enchantment Library" quest, "Hotswapping Enchantments" quest, "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest and "Stabilizing Your Enchantments" quest.[3]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest comes next, then "Hellshelf Infusion" quest.[3]
- After the infusion quest come "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest, "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest and a second "Upgraded Shelves" quest.[3]
- "Venturing Deeper" quest follows the first Upgraded Shelves quest, then a quest in "Gearing Up" and "Endshelf" quest.[3]
- "Level 100 Enchanting" quest is the top of the line. It leads into both "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest and "Library of Alexandria" quest.[3]
The quests tie Eterna caps to Apotheosis World Tiers. The upgraded shelves target 45 Eterna at the Frontier tier, 60 at Ascent, and up to 75 with Deepshelves at Summit. The Draconic Endshelf adds 20 Eterna so you can reach 100.[3]
The chapter has 61 more quests that I can't show here. Check the quest book in game for those.[3]
How do you get started with Apothic-Enchanting?
5 parts
The pack's quest book teaches enchanting in the Gearing Up chapter, in the Exploration group. The enchanting line starts at "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest, which asks for a plain vanilla enchanting table, and most of the enchanting quests after it hang off that one. Some quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for them.[3]
Apotheosis replaces vanilla enchanting with three values. Eterna is the strength of the table and increases the level cost. Quanta is the randomness. Arcana is the quality and quantity of the enchantments you get. Bookshelves supply these stats. The quest book adds that your Eterna is capped by the tier of your shelves and by your World Tier.[1][3]
Step 1: the table
The first quest in this line asks for a vanilla enchanting table. The mod describes the Apothic Enchanting Table as a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table, and the pack has changed its recipe:[3][4][5]

Step 2: your first upgraded shelves
The "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest sets the next goal at this stage: reach 45 Eterna by getting to the Frontier World Tier. It says the Hellshelf is easier to craft and focuses on boosting Quanta, while the Seashelf needs some fishing to get started and builds up your Arcana instead.[3]

Step 3: infuse them
Next comes "Hellshelf Infusion" quest, which asks for the Infused Hellshelf and the Infused Seashelf. The infused shelves are also the base for later upgrades, like the Blazing Hellshelf and the Crystalline Seashelf.[3][4]

Step 4: handy extras
The "Enchantment Library" quest quest describes the Enchantment Library as storage for enchantments. With enough low level enchants, it can also create books of higher level enchants for you.[3]

Quanta adds randomness to your enchanting, and Quantic Stability makes Quanta only beneficial. The quest for the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability says it stabilizes your enchantments, so you get the upside of Quanta without the downside.[1][3]

Got random enchanted gear lying around? The quest says a Tome of Scrapping lets you break it down and extract some of its enchantments. The Tome of Extraction removes all enchants but keeps the item, so you can remove and replace enchantments on it at will.[3]
Where it leads
After infusing, the "Upgraded Shelves" quest quest asks you to aim for 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana, which it ties to the Ascent World Tier. Then "Venturing Deeper" quest says Deepshelves can push Eterna to a max of 75 once you reach the Summit World Tier. "Endshelf" quest and "Level 100 Enchanting" quest follow for the final tier of enchanting. The mod raises the max level of the Enchanting Table to 100.[1][3]
How does Apothic-Enchanting work?
7 parts
Apothic-Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis. It overhauls the Enchanting Table with stats that come from the blocks around it, and raises the table's max level to 100. Most enchantments also get higher max levels automatically. Nothing in the sources here describes machines, power or fluids for this mod. It is all about how you build the space around your table.[1]
Enchanting stats
Instead of the set-and-forget vanilla table, bookshelves feed the table three primary stats. You can see them directly in the Enchanting Table's GUI.[1]
- Eterna: a measure of enchanting strength, which increases the level cost.[1]
- Quanta: a measure of randomness, changing how much RNG is involved.[1]
- Arcana: a measure of mystical quality. It increases the number of enchantments you receive and makes rare enchantments more common.[1]
There are also secondary stats that tweak minor behaviours or adjust how the primary stats behave:[1]
- Enchanting Clues change how many enchantments you are shown when hovering a slot in the table. More clues are generally better.[1]
- Quantic Stability makes Quanta only beneficial, instead of having a chance to cause negative effects.[1]
- Allowing Treasure makes treasure enchantments such as Mending show up in the table. Curses are treasure enchantments too, so watch out.[1]
- Enchantment Filters let you blacklist certain enchantments from the table, which removes unwanted ones from the pool.[1]
Placing bookshelves
There are 32 valid bookshelf locations: the ring around the table (corners included) on the same y-level, and the same ring one y-level above. An air block must sit between the table and the shelf for the spot to count. Other stat blocks, such as skulls or candles, only contribute from these same locations.[1]
Any block that provides enchanting stats shows them in its item tooltip. Some blocks provide stats dynamically, so the tooltip is not fully accurate. Candles are the example: you can stack up to 4 in one block space, and they give more Arcana when stacked.[1]
Most blocks also declare a max Eterna value, the most that block can contribute to before its Eterna bonus is discarded. The table counts the lowest-max blocks first, so you never need to remove low-max shelves to climb higher. The mod's own example: 15 bookshelves with a max of 30 give 30 Eterna, and one more bookshelf keeps it at 30. Add a Hellshelf (max 45) and it rises to 33. The table's GUI text describes this cap as the maximum amount of Eterna you can use in an Enchanting Table.[1][5]
Blocks with no specific stats that would normally provide enchanting power give the same Eterna as they normally would, with a max of 30. Stats for any block can be adjusted with a datapack, which can also add stats to blocks from other mods. For deeper progression advice, the mod page points to the Chronicle of Shadows.[1]

The Apothic Enchanting Table is described as a cosmetic variant of the Enchanting Table. The pack changed its crafting recipe.[4][5]

Apotheosis also normalizes experience costs at both the Enchanting Table and the Anvil. Only the true amount of experience is deducted, instead of levels subtracted from your current level, so you no longer need to micromanage your XP.[1]
Upgrading shelves with infusion
Several shelves are made through the mod's own infusion recipe type. A Dormant Deepshelf becomes a Deepshelf this way, and there is an advancement for activating a Dormant Deepshelf.[4][5]
The end line starts with Infused Dragon's Breath. The advancement for the Endshelf asks you to acquire Infused Dragon's Breath and create one, and a further upgrade turns the Endshelf into the Draconic Endshelf. The recipes below show both steps.[4][5]

On the Nether side, an Infused Hellshelf is obtained through Infusion Enchanting. The two recipes below cover the Blazing Hellshelf and the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight (the upgrade of the Hellshelf of Sight), and the pack changed the second one.[4][5]

Other shelves have their own advancements: a Sculkshelf is created using a Warden Tendril, and an Infused Seashelf is obtained through Infusion Enchanting. The Altar of the Seas can turn unwanted enchanted items into a new book.[5]
Tomes
Tomes act like a book when enchanted, but only accept enchantments for one item type. There are nine in total: helmets, chestplates, leggings, boots, swords, bows, pickaxes, fishing poles, and one for enchantments that fit none of the others.[1]
The Tome of Scrapping and its upgrades remove enchantments from an item. The basic Tome of Scrapping pulls only half of the enchantments and destroys the item. The Tome of Superior Scrapping pulls all of them but still destroys the item. The Tome of Extraction retrieves everything and leaves the item intact.[1]

Libraries
The Library is described as the ultimate storage solution for enchantments, so you do not have to keep them in chests. The Library of Alexandria (Library of Alexandria) is made by an infusion recipe from the Enchantment Library, using the keep_nbt_infusion recipe type.[1][4]

The pack also uses the Library of Alexandria as an ingredient in a PneumaticCraft: Repressurized pressure chamber recipe (ftb:dimensional_memory_fragment), which runs at a pressure of 3.5.[6]
Ender leads
The lead items form a short chain: Flimsy Ender Lead, Ender Lead and Occult Ender Lead. The pack changed the Flimsy Ender Lead crafting recipe, and the recipes below show each step.[4]

How do you progress through Apothic-Enchanting?
6 parts
For now, your roadmap is the Gearing Up chapter of the pack's quest book (Exploration group). It starts with the Secrets of Enchanting quest, which asks for a vanilla enchanting table and explains three stats. Eterna sets the maximum level of your enchants, Quanta controls how random they are, and Arcana controls their rarity and how many get applied. The quest says your Eterna cap depends on both your bookshelf tier and your World Tier, so you climb the two together.[3]
Stage 1: first shelves and tools
For now, several quests branch off the Secrets of Enchanting quest. The Enchantment Library quest gives you the Enchantment Library, which the quest describes as storage for enchantments that can create higher-level books from enough low-level ones. The Miscellaneous Shelves quest covers the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf, which the quest says give bonuses such as adding 100% Quanta, or removing Quanta and Arcana. The Stabilizing Your Enchantments quest introduces the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability, and the quest says stabilization cancels out the negative effects of Quanta so you keep the upside.[3]
"Hotswapping Enchantments" quest covers the scrapping and extraction tomes, plus tomes crafted to support only a certain class of enchantments. For now, the quest accepts a Tome of Scrapping, an Tome of Superior Scrapping or an Tome of Extraction. The pack changes the recipe for the Apothic Enchanting Table, so check the in-pack version below.[3][4]

Stage 2: Hellshelf and Seashelf
For now, the first Upgraded Shelves quest asks you to get your Eterna to 45 by reaching the Frontier World Tier, and says upgraded shelves are how you do it. It asks for the Hellshelf and the Seashelf. The quest says the Hellshelf is easier to craft and focuses on boosting Quanta, while Seashelves need some fishing to get started and build up Arcana instead.[3]

Stage 3: infused shelves
For now, "Hellshelf Infusion" quest has you infuse both shelves, giving the Infused Hellshelf and the Infused Seashelf. These are infusion recipes rather than crafting-table ones.[3][4]

As the quest book stands for now, three quests come after that. "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest gives the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration, which the quest says can be loaded with up to six enchanted books and will block those enchantments from showing up again, curses included. "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest gives the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight, which the quest says gives 2 Enchanting Clues per shelf instead of 1. The pack changes its recipe.[3][4]

For now, the second Upgraded Shelves quest sets the next goal of 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana, which the quest says needs the Ascent World Tier and upgrading the infused bookshelves. It accepts a Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, plus a Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf.[3]
Stage 4: Deepshelves
"Venturing Deeper" quest follows the upgraded shelves. You create and infuse Deepshelves and reach the Summit World Tier, which can push your Eterna to a max of 75. A Dormant Deepshelf is infused into the Deepshelf. The quest also takes an echoing, soul-touched or sculk variant, or the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures, which lets your table enchant Treasure Enchantments.[3][4]

Stage 5: the End and level 100
After Venturing Deeper comes the quest for Infused Dragon's Breath, which leads to the Endshelf quest. For now, the quest describes the Endshelf as the base shelf for the final tier of enchanting, and says that besides being locked behind Infused Dragon's Breath, Endshelves are relatively cheap.[3]

For now, the Level 100 Enchanting quest is the last shelf step, and it calls its shelves the centerpiece of a fully completed enchanting setup. The quest says the Draconic Endshelf provides no additional stats but boosts your Eterna by 20, allowing a max of 100. It calls the Pearlescent Endshelf the best general-purpose bookshelf, providing significant amounts of both Quanta and Arcana.[3]

Endgame extras
For now, two quests follow Level 100 Enchanting. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest gives the Enchanting Table of the Raven, which the quest says lets you manually configure your Eterna, Quanta and Arcana without nearby bookshelves. The pack changes its recipe.[3][4]

The second of those, for now, is "Library of Alexandria" quest, which gives the Library of Alexandria. The quest describes it as an upgraded Enchantment Library that can store enchantment values up to level 31, and notes that the enchanted books are still capped at normal pack limits. It is made by infusing your existing library.[3][4]

How does Apothic-Enchanting work with other mods?
3 parts
Apothic-Enchanting is the enchanting module of Apotheosis, so most of its links in this pack run through Apotheosis recipes. A few go further and reach into other mods through crafting and the quest book.[1][4]
Apotheosis recipes the pack changed
The pack rewrote several Apotheosis recipes so they depend on items from this mod. If you only follow the enchanting shelf line, you will still meet these items later on.[4]
- Infused Dragon's Breath is used in the recipe for the Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune, and in the Gate Pearl recipe from the Gateways tiered "pinnacle" set. The pack changed both recipes.[4]
- Warden Tendril is used in the recipe for the Mountaineer's Spawner Upgrade Rune and in the same Gate Pearl recipe. The pack changed both.[4]
- The Enchanting Table of the Raven builds on the Apothic Enchanting Table and uses an Apotheosis God-Fused Pearl. The pack changed this recipe too.[4]

The Library of Alexandria and the Dimensional Memory Fragment
This one is a real multi-mod crossover. The pack adds a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber recipe for the Dimensional Memory Fragment that takes the Library of Alexandria as an input. The same recipe also pulls in items from EnderIO (Grains of Prescience), Occultism (Dimensional Crystal Matrix), Steve's Carts and RFTools Base. The pack's script sets the chamber pressure to 3.5.[4][6]

Where the quest book connects them
The enchanting quests sit in the "Gearing Up" chapter, in the Exploration group (chapter 17 of 41 in the book). Alongside them you will find quests for other mods' ways to gear up, such as the EnderIO a quest in "Gearing Up" quest and the Cognition quest "Cognition: Using your Knowledge" quest. Those are separate systems from this mod's shelves.[3]
Inside the Apothic-Enchanting line, a quest in "Gearing Up" comes after "Venturing Deeper" quest. "Endshelf" quest then follows, and then "Level 100 Enchanting" quest. After that, two quests branch off: "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest, which asks for the Apotheosis God-Fused Pearl, and "Library of Alexandria" quest.[3]
The chapter has 90 quests, and the text of 69 of them is not shown in the sources here, so check the quest book for anything else that links this mod to others.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Apothic-Enchanting?
3 parts
In the pack's quest book, the mod's quests sit in one chapter: "Gearing Up", in the Exploration group (chapter 17 of 41 in the book, 90 quests). The chapter is shared with Apotheosis, Silent Gear, Cognition and other mods. The enchanting quests form one long branch that starts at the enchanting table and ends with the Raven table and the Library of Alexandria.[3]
Where the branch starts
"The Secrets of Enchanting" quest is the starting point. It asks for an enchanting table, and its text describes three values to manage: Eterna (the maximum enchant level, capped by your bookshelf tier and World Tier), Quanta (the randomness) and Arcana (the rarity and number of enchants).[3]
In the quest book, five quests list it as their prerequisite.[3]
- "Enchantment Library" quest asks for the Enchantment Library. The quest text says it stores enchantments and, with enough low level enchants, can create books of higher level enchants.[3]
- "Hotswapping Enchantments" quest asks for one of the Tome of Scrapping, Tome of Superior Scrapping or Tome of Extraction. Its text says the Tome of Extraction removes all enchants but keeps the item from being destroyed.[3]
- "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest asks for the Beeshelf, Melonshelf and Stoneshelf. The quest text calls them unique shelves that provide bonuses like adding 100% Quanta, or removing Quanta and Arcana.[3]
- "Stabilizing Your Enchantments" quest asks for the Geode-Encased Bookshelf of Stability. Its text says stabilization cancels out the negative effects of Quanta, so you get the upside and none of the downside.[3]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest asks for the Hellshelf and Seashelf. The quest text sets the goal of 45 Eterna by reaching the Frontier World Tier, and says the Hellshelf focuses on Quanta while the Seashelf builds Arcana.[3]
Climbing the shelf tiers
- "Hellshelf Infusion" quest comes after the first Upgraded Shelves quest and asks for the Infused Hellshelf and Infused Seashelf.[3]
- Two quests open after Hellshelf Infusion. "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest asks for the Seashelf of Aquatic Filtration, which its text says can be loaded with up to six enchanted books to block those enchantments from showing up again. "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest asks for the Hellshelf of Masterful Sight, which its text says gives 2 Enchanting Clues per shelf instead of 1.[3]
- "Upgraded Shelves" quest is the second Upgraded Shelves quest, also after Hellshelf Infusion. It asks for a Blazing Hellshelf or Glowing Hellshelf, plus a Crystalline Seashelf or Heart-Forged Seashelf. The quest text names the next goal as 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana, and says you need the Ascent World Tier.[3]
- "Venturing Deeper" quest comes after an Upgraded Shelves quest. It asks for a Deepshelf plus one of the Echoing Deepshelf, Echoing Sculkshelf, Soul-Touched Sculkshelf, Soul-Touched Deepshelf or Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures. The quest text says you also need the Summit World Tier, that these shelves can push Eterna to a max of 75, and that the Deepshelf of Arcane Treasures lets your enchanting table enchant Treasure Enchantments.[3]
The final tier
- a quest in "Gearing Up" asks for the Infused Dragon's Breath and comes after Venturing Deeper.[3]
- "Endshelf" quest asks for the Endshelf. Its text calls it the base shelf for the final tier of enchanting, locked behind Infused Dragon's Breath but relatively cheap.[3]
- "Level 100 Enchanting" quest asks for the Draconic Endshelf and Pearlescent Endshelf. The quest text says the Draconic Endshelf adds no stats but boosts Eterna by 20, allowing a max of 100, and that the Pearlescent Endshelf provides significant amounts of both Quanta and Arcana.[3]
- Two quests close the branch after Level 100 Enchanting. "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest asks for the Enchanting Table of the Raven, which its text says lets you manually configure Eterna, Quanta and Arcana without nearby bookshelves. "Library of Alexandria" quest asks for the Library of Alexandria, which its text says can store enchantment values up to level 31.[3]
What changed in Apothic-Enchanting between versions?
FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 ships Apothic-Enchanting 1.6.2. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.20.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]
Unverified The changelog entries for Apothic-Enchanting 1.6.0 and 1.6.2 were not available when this guide was written, so what changed in those releases is unverified. The pack changelogs also have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing confirmed about when the pack updated it or changed its values.
