Gateways To Eternity is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 5.1.0. Adds wave-based combat events called Gateways (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways To Eternity is a mod about fighting off waves of monsters in return for rewards. This pack includes version 5.1.0. You open a gateway with a Gate Pearl, and different gates give different monsters and different rewards.[1][2]

Early game: free farm animals

You first meet the mod in the "Chapter 1: Starting out" quest chapter with "Free Mobs!!!" quest, which comes after the Hostile Mobs quest. The quest pitches gateways as a way to get passive mobs and loot, with a catch: you have to fight off waves of monsters first. The gate in this quest gives you 6 of each farm animal.[2]

Mid to late game: World Tier gateways

The "Apotheosis Gear" chapter covers the pack's other use of the mod. Apotheosis is integrated with Gateways, so there is a gateway for each World Tier except Haven, sending waves of monsters and Invaders. Each one only works within its own World Tier. When you beat the final wave you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other gateways, you get a total of 3 lives. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" introduces this, and it comes after the World Tier: Frontier quest.[3]

The big one is "&zGate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders" quest, which comes after that first Apotheosis Gear quest and after World Tier: Pinnacle. You get this Gate Pearl by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and the fight comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health. The gateway it opens is endless: the waves scale up, with less and less time between each one.[3]

It can spawn Invaders from any dimension, not just the one you use it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End.[3]

Tip: The tier gateways are tied to World Tiers, so check your current tier before you set one up. A tier-specific gateway can only be used within its own World Tier.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star quest path uses this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found for it. The quest chapters above are the only placement the pack's quest book confirms.

How do you get started with Gateways To Eternity?

3 parts

Everything in Gateways To Eternity starts with one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, which sends waves of monsters at you and pays out rewards as you beat them. It only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another one, so don't stack them on top of each other.[4]

Watch out: An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it can't spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer runs out. Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them, so prepare your arena before you pop the pearl.[4]

Step 1: Make a basic Gate Pearl

The early quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest is the best place to begin. It tells you Gateways are a way to get passive mobs and loot rewards, but you have to fight off waves of monsters, and you'll need an Ender Eye to make the pearl. The gate in that quest gives 6 of each farm animal.[2][5]

Unverified The quest doesn't say which Gate Pearl recipe gives the farm animals, so check the quest in-game before you spend an Eye of Ender.

The basic Gate Pearl recipes here are plain mod recipes that the pack doesn't change. They are named after slime, blaze and enderman Gateways, and there is also an Emerald Grove one.[5]

Step 2: Move on to the World Tier pearls

Once you reach the Apotheosis World Tiers, Gateways come into play again. There are Gateways for each World Tier except Haven, and each one can only be used within its own tier. Beating the final wave gives rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other Gateways, you get a total of 3 lives. The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" unlocks after World Tier: Frontier.[3]

The pack changes the Gate Pearl recipes for these tiers, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs. Frontier comes first.[5]

Step 3: The endless Pinnacle pearl

The quest "&zGate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders" quest covers a special pearl that you don't craft. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway. It summons an endless stream of scaling waves with less and less time between each one, and it can spawn Invaders from any dimension. That means you can earn gems that are normally exclusive to other dimensions, like Endersurge Gems outside the End. The quest also mentions a reward for beating 100 waves.[3]

How does Gateways To Eternity work?

4 parts

Gateways To Eternity is built around one item: the Gate Pearl. You use it on a block to summon a Gateway, which spawns mobs in waves and hands out rewards as you obtain them. The sources only describe the basics of how that works, so this section is short.[4]

Opening a Gateway

Use a Gate Pearl on a block and the Gateway opens there. It can only be used if the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the current spacing. If there isn't enough room, you get a message saying there's not enough space to open it.[4]

How a Gateway fails

An open Gateway fails in a burst of lightning if it cannot spawn a mob, if any active mob walks too far away, or if the wave timer elapses.[4]

The mod has a specific message for each way a Gateway can implode:[4]

  • There was no player nearby.[4]
  • An entity was removed without being killed.[4]
  • You ran out of lives.[4]
  • A wave entity ran too far away.[4]
  • There was not enough space to spawn the next wave.[4]
  • The wave timer expired.[4]
Watch out: Don't get rid of a Gateway mob by any means other than killing it. The Gateway implodes if an entity is removed without being killed.[4]

Rewards and endless modifiers

Rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained, so you don't have to wait for the whole fight to end to see loot.[4]

The mod also has Endless Modifiers. Its tooltips show a modifier count in the form of one value out of another, and a total number of Endless Modifiers.[4]

Crafting Gate Pearls in this pack

This pack has many different Gate Pearl recipes, all producing the same item. Some come from the mod itself, including basic, endless and named ones such as the Hellish Fortress. The tiered ones come from Apotheosis, and the pack changed them.[5]

How do you progress through Gateways To Eternity?

4 parts

In this pack, Gateways To Eternity is tied into Apotheosis. Each World Tier except Haven has its own Gateway, which throws waves of monsters and Invaders at you. You open every one of them with a Gate Pearl.[3]

How the tier Gateways work

A tier Gateway only works inside its own World Tier. If you beat the final wave, you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other Gateways, you get a total of 3 lives, so you have a little room for mistakes. The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" explains this and comes after the Frontier World Tier quest.[3]

Gate Pearl recipes per tier

The pack changed the Gate Pearl recipe for each tier Gateway, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here are the in-pack recipes for Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle.[5]

The endless Pinnacle reward

Clearing the Pinnacle Gateway gives you a different Gate Pearl, which opens an endless Gateway. The quest "&zGate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders" quest comes after the quest above and the Pinnacle World Tier quest. This Gateway summons an endless stream of increasingly scaling waves, with less and less time between each one.[3]

The quest also warns that this pearl comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a LOT of health. Invaders can spawn from any dimension, not just the one you opened it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest text also mentions beating 100 waves.[3]

Early-game Gateways

You don't have to wait for the tier Gateways. The quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest comes right after Hostile Mobs in the first chapter. Its Gateway gives 6 of each Farm Animal. You'll need to fight off waves of monsters, and the quest says you also need an Eye of Ender to make it. Different Gates give different monsters and rewards.[2]

The mod also has its own Gate Pearl recipes, listed here as the mod's recipes rather than pack changes.[5]

How does Gateways To Eternity work with other mods?

3 parts

Gateways To Eternity connects with the rest of this pack mainly through Apotheosis. The pack ties Gateways into the World Tier progression, and it also changes how Gate Pearls are crafted so they use items from Apotheosis and Apothic Enchanting.[3][5]

Apotheosis World Tier gateways

The quest a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" explains the setup, and it unlocks after the World Tier: Frontier quest. There is a Gateway for each World Tier except Haven, and each one sends waves of monsters and Invaders at you. A Gateway only works within its own World Tier. When you beat the final wave you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. Unlike other Gateways, you only get 3 lives.[3]

Crafting Gate Pearls

The pack changes three Gate Pearl recipes, and they are registered under Apotheosis rather than under the Gateways namespace. Each one produces an Gate Pearl. The Pinnacle recipe is the most involved: it also uses Apothic Enchanting items.[5]

The endless Pinnacle gateway

The quest "&zGate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders" quest covers a special Gate Pearl. It comes after the Gateways quest above and the World Tier: Pinnacle quest. You don't craft this pearl. You get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway, and it comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health.[3]

This gateway summons an endless stream of waves that scale up, with less and less time between each one. Its Invaders can come from any dimension, not just the one you used it in. That means you can get gems that are normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside The End.[3]

Tip: Gateways are not only for Apotheosis progression. The quest "Free Mobs!!!" quest (Free Mobs!!!) points to a Gate Pearl that gives 6 of each farm animal when you win. It mentions that you need an Ender Eye to make it, so keep one handy.[2]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Gateways To Eternity?

2 parts

Gateways shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. Every quest asks you to hand in a Gate Pearl, but each one is a different kind of gateway fight with different rewards.[2][3]

Chapter 1: Starting out

This is where you meet the mod. "Free Mobs!!!" quest unlocks after the Hostile Mobs quest and has you submit a Gate Pearl. The quest text sells it as an easy way to get passive mobs and loot rewards, then admits it isn't really easy, because you have to fight off waves of monsters. Different gates give different rewards and monsters, and this one gives 6 of each farm animal.[2]

Apotheosis Gear

The second chapter ties Gateways into Apotheosis. According to the quest text, there are Gateways for each World Tier except Haven. They send waves of monsters and Invaders at you, and you can only use them within their own World Tier. When you beat the final wave you get a variety of rewards that help you finish that tier. You also get a total of 3 lives, which is unlike other Gateways.[3]

  1. a quest in "Apotheosis Gear" comes after the World Tier: Frontier quest. It asks for a Gate Pearl and explains how the tiered Gateways work.[3]
  2. "&zGate Pearl - Endless Gateway of Apothic Invaders" quest comes after that quest and after World Tier: Pinnacle. Its tasks list a Gate Pearl twice.[3]

This last Gate Pearl is different from the others, because you get it by clearing the Pinnacle Gateway. The quest says it comes with the sacrifice of Craig the Eternal, a creature with a lot of health. It summons an endless stream of waves that scale up, with less and less time between each one.[3]

Invaders can spawn from any dimension, not just the one you used it in. That means you can get gems normally exclusive to other dimensions, such as Endersurge Gems outside of The End. The quest text then points to a reward for beating 100 waves, but the text is cut off before saying what it is.[3]

Unverified The exact reward for beating 100 waves of the endless gateway is not shown in the quest text available here.
