What is Ender IO?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod. It brings armor, tools, weapons, machines, conduits, inventory management and mobs, so it's a big toolbox for automation, power and storage. It's a good fit if you want to wire up a base with conduits and build up your own machine line.[1]

The pack ships Ender IO 8.2.11-beta. The mod is being rewritten from the ground up for the latest Minecraft, so some features from older versions may not have been ported yet.[1][2]

Conduit types

Conduits are one of the main features the mod lists. The project page names these conduit types, but it also says the rewrite has not yet ported every feature, so check that a given type is in your version:[1]

Where it fits in the pack's progression

Ender IO has its own quest chapter, and it also shows up in several other chapters. The first Grains of Infinity quest sits in the beginning chapter, a Stirling Generator quest is in the power chapter, an Enchanter quest is in the gearing up chapter, and the logistics chapter asks for the Yeta Wrench and conduits.[3][4][5][6][7]

Inside the Ender IO chapter, the path starts with Grains of Infinity (a quest in "?"), then the Stirling Generator (a quest in "?"). From there you unlock the Alloy Smelter (a quest in "?") and the Basic Capacitor (a quest in "?"). Most of the rest of the chapter branches off those.[3]

How do you get started with Ender IO?

5 parts

Welcome to Ender IO in the pack! The pack's Ender IO quest chapter gives you a clear order to follow. It starts with Grains of Infinity, moves to power, then to the alloy smelter, and branches out from there. Here is that order, and why each step matters.[8][9]

Step 1: Grains of Infinity

Both the Ender IO quest chapter and the opening chapter ask you for Grains of Infinity first. You need them early because the pack's basic capacitor recipe uses them as an ingredient. One pack recipe that produces them is sag milling deepslate cobblestone, which also gives you plain cobblestone back.[8][9][10]

Unverified How you get your very first Grains of Infinity before you own a Sag Mill is not confirmed by the sources I have. The Sag Mill recipe in the pack needs a dark steel ingot, which comes later in the quest chain.

Step 2: Power with the Stirling Generator

Next comes the Stirling Generator (a quest in "?"), which every later quest in the chapter hangs off. It also has its own quest in the power chapter. You need it to run the machines that follow.[8][11]

Unverified The Stirling Generator's own crafting recipe is not visible in the sources I have, so I can't show it here. The recipe dump does list pack-added recipes named erase_... for several Ender IO machines, but what they do is not explained.

Step 3: The Alloy Smelter

After the generator, the Alloy Smelter (a quest in "?") is the real gateway. Dark steel, soularium, vibrant alloy, conduits and the vacuum items all unlock after it. This is the pack's recipe:[8][10]

Step 4: Capacitors and Energetic Alloy

Right after the generator you also get the Basic Capacitor quest (a quest in "?"). This is the start of your capacitor line.[8]

Step 5: Pick your branch

With the smelter running, the chapter opens several paths at once. You don't have to do them in a fixed order:[8]

Dark steel is a good first pick, because the Sag Mill and the Enchanter both need it. Here is the pack's alloy smelting recipe for the ingot:[8][10]

Tip: The Sag Mill needs a dark steel ingot, and its quest wants a grinding ball too. The pack has grinding ball recipes for several alloys, including Dark Steel Grinding Ball and Energetic Alloy Grinding Ball, so you can use whichever alloy you already have.[8][10]

How does Ender IO work?

7 parts

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod built around machines, conduits and inventory management. Everything below comes from this pack's config and recipe data, so the numbers are the pack's own.[1]

How power works

Ender IO's config measures energy in uI, and machine consumption in uI per tick (uI/t). Every machine has an energy capacity and a base usage. With energy.throttleEnergyUsage set to true, a machine throttles the energy it accepts to 2x its consumption rate.[12]

Here are the base capacity and usage values for the main processing machines in this pack:[12]

  • Alloy Smelter: 64,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t. Vanilla smelting items cost 1,500 uI each.[10][12]
  • SAG mill: 64,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t.[12]
  • Slicer: 100,000 uI capacity and 30 uI/t.[12]
  • Soul binder: 128,000 uI capacity and 60 uI/t.[12]
  • Painting machine: 64,000 uI capacity and 30 uI/t. Each painting operation needs 2,400 uI.[12]
  • Crafter: 64,000 uI capacity. Each crafting recipe costs 3,200 uI.[12]
  • Farming station, drain and impulse hopper: 64,000 uI capacity each, using 10, 10 and 16 uI/t respectively.[12]
  • Powered spawner: 100,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t. Mobs without custom spawner soul data cost 50,000 uI to spawn.[12]

Chargers

The wired charger holds 128,000 uI. In this pack it uses 64 uI/t, which the pack raised from the mod default of 60. The wireless charger also holds 128,000 uI, charges at 60 uI/t and costs 2 uI/t in upkeep.[12]

Generating and storing energy

The stirling generator produces a base of 40 uI/t and holds 64,000 uI. Its burn speed is 0.375 burn ticks per machine tick. Fuel efficiency starts at a base of 80 percent and rises by 20 percent per capacitor level, which changes burn times.[12]

The soul engine has a burn speed of 1 and a generation setting of 1. The energetic photovoltaic cell is set to 4, which is its production rate at midday without rain or thunder.[12]

For storage, the basic capacitor bank is set to 500,000 uI. The recipes below for the Basic Capacitor, Basic Capacitor Bank and Advanced Capacitor Bank were all added by the pack, and the last one shows how to upgrade a basic bank.[10][12]

Obelisks

Obelisks work over an area, and the config sets each one's base range:[12]

obelisks.attractorAttractBosses is false, so the Attractor Obelisk doesn't attract bosses here.[10][12]

  • Attractor obelisk: 64,000 uI capacity and 20 uI/t.[12]
  • Aversion obelisk: 64,000 uI capacity and 10 uI/t.[12]
  • Inhibitor obelisk: 64,000 uI capacity and 10 uI/t.[12]
  • Relocator obelisk: 64,000 uI capacity and 10 uI/t.[12]
Tip: The pack halved the running cost of the aversion, inhibitor and relocator obelisks to 10 uI/t, down from the mod default of 20. They're cheaper to keep running than with the mod's defaults.[12]

Enchanter and reach

The enchanter adds a base level cost to all its recipes: enchanter.baseLevelCost is 2.[12]

The lapis cost is the enchant level multiplied by enchanter.lapisCostFactor, which is 3 in this pack.[12]

The final XP cost is multiplied by enchanter.levelCostFactor, set to 0.75 here.[12]

enderface.enderIoRange is the maximum distance from which an Ender IO can interact with blocks. It's set to 8 and can go from 1 to 20.[12]

Conduits and filters

Ender IO moves things around with conduits. The available types are item, fluid, energy, redstone, Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemicals.[1]

For filtering, the pack has crafting recipes for the Basic Item Filter, Advanced Item Filter, Basic Fluid Filter and Basic Soul Filter. You can also turn a Redstone NAND Filter into a Redstone AND Filter with a recipe the pack added. The recipes below show enderio:black_paper, the basic item filter and the AND filter conversion.[10]

How do you progress through Ender IO?

6 parts

Ender IO in this pack is a quest-led tech line. Everything hangs off a single chain in the Ender IO chapter, and it starts small: you grab Grains of Infinity first (a quest in "?"). The same item also shows up as early tasks in the starting chapter, so you will probably meet it before you open the Ender IO quests.[8][9]

The pack has a sag milling recipe that turns deepslate cobblestone into grains of infinity, with regular cobblestone as a second output.[10]

Dark steel branch

Soularium branch

Soularium leads into the soul machines. XP Obelisk (a quest in "?") and Slice'N'Splice (a quest in "?") both come right after it. The slice and splice opens Soul Vial with Soul Binder (a quest in "?").[8]

The spawner quest (a quest in "?") asks for Broken Spawner and Powered Spawner, and needs both the slice and splice and the soul vial and binder quests. Ender Crystal (a quest in "?") also follows the soul binder. After it come Grains of the End (a quest in "?") and the travel pair Staff of Travelling and Travel Anchor (a quest in "?").[8]

In this pack the ender crystal is made by soul binding, not by ordinary crafting.[10]

Utility side quests

Tip: The logistics chapter starts with the Yeta Wrench (a quest in "?") and then opens five separate conduit quests. Build the wrench early. The pack's conduit recipes use the Conduit Binder and include versions based on AE2 cables, Refined Storage cables and Mekanism tubes.[10][13]

How does Ender IO work with other mods?

4 parts

Ender IO doesn't sit alone in this pack. The recipes and quests tie it to a lot of other mods, and one item in particular, Grains of Infinity, turns up in many of them. Here is what the pack files confirm.[8][10]

Mekanism and your conduits

The pack added several recipes that turn Mekanism parts into Conduit Bundle. They cover the basic, advanced and elite pressurized tubes and the advanced thermodynamic conductor, and each one is combined with a Conduit Binder. Two upgrade recipes also turn Mekanism's Infused Alloy and Reinforced Alloy into a conduit.[10]

One of the pack's Mekanism-to-conduit recipes.

Conduits are a quest topic too. a quest in "?" asks for a conduit and the Yeta Wrench. The logistics chapter starts with a quest in "?" (the Yeta wrench) and then branches into several conduit quests, such as a quest in "?".[8][13]

Grains of Infinity as a crossover item

The pack asks for Grains of Infinity early. a quest in "?" and a quest in "?" in the opening chapter both want it, and a quest in "?" starts the Ender IO chapter.[8][9]

After that, the pack uses it in recipes from other mods, such as the AE2 Tiny TNT and the Functional Storage Dripping Upgrade. The AE2 transform for Black Quartz and the Void Crystal Catalyst use it too. The pack changed the Basicmagnet recipe and the Gateways Gate Pearl recipe as well. The recipes are shown below.[10]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Ender IO?

    4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ender IO shows up in five quest chapters in this pack. The big one is the dedicated enderio chapter. The rest are small appearances in logistics, the_beginning, gearing_up and power. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I'll describe each one by what it asks you to hold.[3][4][5][6][7]

    The enderio chapter

This chapter starts with a quest in "?", which asks for Grains of Infinity. a quest in "?" follows. It wants a Stirling Generator plus a checkmark task. Almost everything else branches from there.[3]

    1. a quest in "?" asks for the Alloy Smelter. a quest in "?" asks for the Basic Capacitor. Both unlock after the Stirling Generator quest.[3]
    2. Once you have the Alloy Smelter quest done, five quests open up: a quest in "?" (Energetic Alloy Ingot), a quest in "?" (Dark Steel Ingot), a quest in "?" (Soularium Ingot), a quest in "?" (Vacuum Chest and XP Vacuum) and a quest in "?" (Conduit Bundle and Yeta Wrench). a quest in "?", for the Vibrant Alloy Ingot, needs both the Alloy Smelter quest and the Energetic Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
    3. Conduit branch: a quest in "?" comes after the conduit quest. It asks for a Conduit Facade and a Painting Machine.[3]

    Capacitor line

    1. a quest in "?" asks for the Basic Capacitor Bank after the Basic Capacitor quest.[3]
    2. a quest in "?" asks for the Double-Layer Capacitor. It needs the Basic Capacitor quest and the Energetic Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
    3. a quest in "?" asks for the Advanced Capacitor Bank.[3]
    4. a quest in "?" asks for the Octadic Capacitor. It needs the Double-Layer Capacitor quest and the Vibrant Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
    5. a quest in "?" finishes the line with the Vibrant Capacitor Bank.[3]

The Vibrant Alloy Ingot quest also unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for the Electromagnet.[3]

    Dark steel and soularium branches

After the Dark Steel Ingot quest you get three quests. a quest in "?" asks for the Enchanter. a quest in "?" asks for The Ender. a quest in "?" asks for the SAG Mill plus any one of several grinding balls, such as the Dark Steel Grinding Ball.[3]

The soularium side starts with a quest in "?" (XP Obelisk) and a quest in "?" (Slice'N'Splice). The Slice'N'Splice quest leads to a quest in "?", which asks for a Soul Vial and a Soul Binder. a quest in "?" needs both of those two quests. It asks for a Broken Spawner and a Powered Spawner.[3]

The Soul Vial and Soul Binder quest also unlocks a quest in "?", for the Ender Crystal. That opens two final quests: a quest in "?" (Grains of the End) and a quest in "?" (Staff of Travelling and Travel Anchor).[3]

    Other chapters

Which Ender IO config options matter?

    8 parts

Most Ender IO settings in this pack match what the mod ships with, but a few were changed on purpose. Those changed values are the ones worth knowing first.[12][14]

    Values the pack changed

    Obelisk and charger ranges

The Attractor Obelisk has a base range of 8 (obelisks.attractorRange). The Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator Obelisks have 16 each (obelisks.aversionRange, obelisks.inhibitorRange, obelisks.relocatorRange). The wireless charger base range is 16 (wirelessCharger.baseRange). The Attractor does not pull in bosses, because obelisks.attractorAttractBosses is false.[12]

    Enchanter costs

The enchanter uses a base level cost of 2 (enchanter.baseLevelCost), a lapis cost factor of 3 (enchanter.lapisCostFactor) and a level cost factor of 0.75 (enchanter.levelCostFactor). The last one multiplies the final XP cost of an enchantment, so 0.5 would halve costs and 2 would double them. The lapis cost is the enchant level multiplied by the lapis cost factor.[12]

    Powered spawner

The powered spawner spawns 4 mobs at a time (poweredSpawner.spawnAmount) and uses 50,000 energy to spawn mobs that have no custom soul data (poweredSpawner.defaultSpawnEnergyCost). It turns off if 2 entities are in range (poweredSpawner.maxEntities), and efficiency drops beyond 10 spawners (poweredSpawner.maxSpawners). Those four match the mod defaults. The spawn type is NEW, which spawns the same entity types as the soul vial rather than an exact copy (poweredSpawner.spawnType).[12]

    Power storage and generation

    Travelling and electromagnet

The travelling settings give a blink range of 24 (items.travelling.blinkRange) and a block-to-block range of 96 (items.travelling.blockToBlockRange). The item-to-block range is 192 (items.travelling.itemToBlockRange). Each use costs 1,000 energy (items.travelling.energyUse) and the item holds 100,000 (items.travelling.maxEnergy). The electromagnet has a range of 5 and picks up at most 20 items (items.electromagnet.range, items.electromagnet.maxItems). All of these match the mod defaults.[14]

    Dark Steel upgrades

The empowered upgrade has four levels, and each one stores more energy and has a better chance to absorb damage.[15]

The explosive upgrade has ranges of 1 and 2 (darksteel.upgrades.explosive.explosive_range_l1, darksteel.upgrades.explosive.explosive_range_l2). The jump upgrade allows 2 jumps at the first level and 3 at the second (darksteel.upgrades.jump.jumpCount_l1, darksteel.upgrades.jump.jumpCount_l2).[15]

    Client-side options

Machine particles are on (visual.machineParticles), and neighbour transparency in the IO config screen is 0.4 (ioconfig.neighbourTransparency). The range boxes are colour coded: the Attractor, Aversion, Inhibitor and Relocator Obelisks all use 8B0000 (blocks.attractorRangeColor, blocks.aversionRangeColor, blocks.inhibitorRangeColor, blocks.relocatorRangeColor), while the Powered Spawner uses FF0000 (blocks.poweredSpawnerRangeColor).[16][17]

What changed in Ender IO between versions?

FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 ships Ender IO 8.0.7-alpha, and the mod was already in the pack by 1.0.1 or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, so they describe what the mod changed, not necessarily what the pack tweaked on top.[18]

Moving from version 7 to version 8

The jump from 7.x to version 8 is one way. Save data formats changed, so going back to 7.x is not supported. The last 7.x build in the notes, 7.1.8-alpha, was marked as a beta on 28/08/2025 and was recommended over the incoming 8.0 alphas for stability. It fixed machines not updating state correctly and loading of large conduit networks, and it updated to the beta release of Refined Storage.[19][20][21]

    8.0.3-alpha: the big feature list

One note on wording: the 8.0.3, 8.0.4 and 8.0.7 notes tell addon developers that API breaks are extensive and that a package reshuffle is planned later in the v8 alpha phase. That plan only concerns addon developers. The changes below are the ones the notes list as done.[19][20][22]

The 8.0.3-alpha notes list most of the headline changes of the first version 8 releases. Here are the ones that matter most while you play:[20]

    • Conduits were rewritten at the core, with much more efficient ticking. You can open the filter GUI from the conduit GUI, and FTB Ultimine can vein mine individual conduits or facades within bundles.[20]
    • Item, energy, fluid and chemical conduits gained a priority option. Energy conduits also got buffed rates and share energy equally across all outputs with the same priority. Redstone conduits gained a "strong power" option.[20]
    • Filters got bigger, and there is a new advanced item filter plus big item filter variants.[20]
    • The primitive alloy smelter was removed, and the Alloy Smelter and SAG Mill no longer need dark steel to craft. Raw ore SAG Mill recipes were buffed.[20]
    • Recipes changed for the void chassis, enchanter and stirling generator, and the yeta wrench recipe was simplified.[20]
    • New additions include the wireless charger with range extending antennas, the Attractor Obelisk, the Weather Obelisk, VAT recipes, a powered spawner capture mode and a mind killer upgrade for the powered spawner.[20]
    • Removed: the old enchantments code (the notes say enchantments are not being re-added to Ender IO at this time), the light and powered light blocks, and wood and stone gear.[20]

    Hotfixes along the way

    • 8.0.1 fixed Refined Storage conduits not loading from 7.x saves.[20]
    • 8.0.2 fixed conduits failing to load because of removed filters.[20]
    • 8.0.3 fixed the deadlock and freeze during world load when converting legacy conduit data.[20]
    • 8.0.4 ported the Conduit Probe to 1.21.1 and added a Soul Vial whitelist tag so modpacks can bypass the blacklist. It also fixed releasing a mob from a stack of vials deleting the rest of the stack.[19]
    • 8.0.7, the version in this pack, fixed a hang on load when using the attractor obelisk.[18][22]
Watch out: The 8.0.7-alpha notes list dark steel tools and armor, The Ender IO and the Farming Machine as experiments behind feature flags. They are work in progress and shouldn't be enabled on your primary world.[22]
