What is Ender IO?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod. It brings armor, tools, weapons, machines, conduits, inventory management and mobs, so it's a big toolbox for automation, power and storage. It's a good fit if you want to wire up a base with conduits and build up your own machine line.[1]

The pack ships Ender IO 8.2.11-beta. The mod is being rewritten from the ground up for the latest Minecraft, so some features from older versions may not have been ported yet.[1][2]

Conduit types

Conduits are one of the main features the mod lists. The project page names these conduit types, but it also says the rewrite has not yet ported every feature, so check that a given type is in your version:[1]

Where it fits in the pack's progression

Ender IO has its own quest chapter, and it also shows up in several other chapters. The first Grains of Infinity quest sits in the beginning chapter, a Stirling Generator quest is in the power chapter, an Enchanter quest is in the gearing up chapter, and the logistics chapter asks for the Yeta Wrench and conduits.[3][4][5][6][7]

Inside the Ender IO chapter, the path starts with Grains of Infinity (a quest in "?"), then the Stirling Generator (a quest in "?"). From there you unlock the Alloy Smelter (a quest in "?") and the Basic Capacitor (a quest in "?"). Most of the rest of the chapter branches off those.[3]

How do you get started with Ender IO?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.15.0 guide

Welcome to Ender IO in the pack! The pack's Ender IO quest chapter gives you a clear order to follow. It starts with Grains of Infinity, moves to power, then to the alloy smelter, and branches out from there. Here is that order, and why each step matters.[8][9]

Step 1: Grains of Infinity

Both the Ender IO quest chapter and the opening chapter ask you for Grains of Infinity first. You need them early because the pack's basic capacitor recipe uses them as an ingredient. One pack recipe that produces them is sag milling deepslate cobblestone, which also gives you plain cobblestone back.[8][9][10]

Unverified How you get your very first Grains of Infinity before you own a Sag Mill is not confirmed by the sources I have. The Sag Mill recipe in the pack needs a dark steel ingot, which comes later in the quest chain.

Step 2: Power with the Stirling Generator

Next comes the Stirling Generator (a quest in "?"), which every later quest in the chapter hangs off. It also has its own quest in the power chapter. You need it to run the machines that follow.[8][11]

Unverified The Stirling Generator's own crafting recipe is not visible in the sources I have, so I can't show it here. The recipe dump does list pack-added recipes named erase_... for several Ender IO machines, but what they do is not explained.

Step 3: The Alloy Smelter

After the generator, the Alloy Smelter (a quest in "?") is the real gateway. Dark steel, soularium, vibrant alloy, conduits and the vacuum items all unlock after it. This is the pack's recipe:[8][10]

Step 5: Pick your branch

With the smelter running, the chapter opens several paths at once. You don't have to do them in a fixed order:[8]

Dark steel is a good first pick, because the Sag Mill and the Enchanter both need it. Here is the pack's alloy smelting recipe for the ingot:[8][10]

Tip: The Sag Mill needs a dark steel ingot, and its quest wants a grinding ball too. The pack has grinding ball recipes for several alloys, including Dark Steel Grinding Ball and Energetic Alloy Grinding Ball, so you can use whichever alloy you already have.[8][10]

How does Ender IO work?

6 parts

Ender IO is a full-featured tech mod built around machines, conduits and inventory management. It ships as a single jar that bundles its modules, including Base, Machines, Conduits and Inventory Panel. The sources for this pack cover power numbers and a handful of recipes well. They say much less about how the multiblocks and automation actually behave, so this section sticks to what is confirmed.[1]

Power: how machines use energy

The machines listed below each have an energy buffer (capacity, in uI) and a base draw (usage, in uI/t). Both are set in the machines config. The values below are the ones the pack uses, and they all match the mod defaults:[12]

Watch out: The wired charger is one place where the pack differs from the mod. Its base usage is 64 uI/t here, while the mod default is 30. Plan your power budget around the pack value.[12]

For generation, the config lists a soul engine with a base burn rate of 1 (energy.soulEngine.burnSpeed) and a generation setting of 1 (energy.soulEngine.generation), described as a percentage increase in uI produced. It also gives the Energetic photovoltaic cell a rate of 4 at midday without rain or thunder (energy.photovoltaicCellRates.energetic).[12]

Capacitor banks

The basic capacitor bank holds 500,000 uI, set by energy.capacitorBankCapacity.basic, and this pack leaves that at the mod default. The pack defines its own recipes for the Basic Capacitor Bank and for upgrading it into the Advanced Capacitor Bank.[12][13]

Conduits and item handling

Conduits are how Ender IO moves things around. The mod lists these types: item, fluid, energy, redstone, Applied Energistics 2 ME, Refined Storage and Mekanism chemicals.[1]

The pack adds several recipes for the Conduit Bundle item, including ones that tie into AE2 cables. One example is below.[13]

Powered gear

Some tools store energy themselves. The electromagnet keeps its mod defaults in this pack: a range of 5 (items.electromagnet.range), up to 20 items (items.electromagnet.maxItems), a maximum energy of 100,000 (items.electromagnet.maxEnergy) and an energy use of 1 (items.electromagnet.energyUse).[14]

The travelling settings are also unchanged. Block-to-block range is 96 (items.travelling.blockToBlockRange), item-to-block range is 192 (items.travelling.itemToBlockRange) and blink range is 24 (items.travelling.blinkRange). The energy use is 1,000 (items.travelling.energyUse), the maximum energy is 100,000 (items.travelling.maxEnergy) and the disabled time is 5 (items.travelling.disabledTime).[14]

Watch out: The levitation staff is changed here. Its maximum energy is 1,000 in this pack, compared with the mod default of 10,000. See items.levitationstaff.maxEnergy.[14]

Enchanter costs

The enchanter adds a base level cost of 2 to every recipe (enchanter.baseLevelCost). The lapis cost is the enchant level times 3 (enchanter.lapisCostFactor), and the final XP cost is multiplied by 0.75 (enchanter.levelCostFactor). Lowering that last value makes enchanting cheaper, and 0.5 would halve it.[12]

Glass variants

Both Clear Glass and Fused Quartz have variants that you craft by combining the glass with an Animal Token, Monster Token or Player Token. The pack's recipe ids call these collision token recipes, and the variant ids end in a, m or p to match the token. Variants whose ids also carry a d or e are made from the matching d or e glass plus a token.[13]

Unverified The sources here do not explain how multiblocks work, what speed or capacity upgrades do, how conduit throughput and redstone control behave, how the filters operate, or what the d and e glass variants mean. The mod has no in-jar guidebook in the sources, so check these in game before relying on them.

How do you progress through Ender IO?

5 parts

Ender IO progression in this pack follows a quest chapter that moves from a very basic smelter up through alloy tiers, capacitors and soul-powered machines. Almost every quest asks you to obtain an item, so the path doubles as a tier list. The quest names are blank in this pack, so I refer to them by ID.[15]

Tier 1: Grains of Infinity and dark steel

The chapter starts with Grains of Infinity in quest a quest in "?". The Beginning chapter has its own pair of quests for the same item, a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". The pack also adds a recipe that sag-mills deepslate cobblestone into the grains plus regular cobblestone, and it changed the Mystical Agriculture essence recipe that produces them.[13][15][16]

Next comes the enderio:primitive_alloy_smelter in quest a quest in "?", then your first Dark Steel Ingot in quest a quest in "?". Dark steel is the gate for most of what follows, since the stirling generator, alloy smelter and sag mill recipes below all use it.[13][15]

In the Ender IO chapter, the Conduit Bundle and Yeta Wrench come together in a quest in "?". a quest in "?" then asks for the Conduit Facade and Painting Machine. The Logistics chapter starts from the wrench and then has five separate conduit quests. In the pack, conduit variants such as energy, item, fluid and redstone are each crafted with a Conduit Binder plus a type-specific material. The pack also adds conduit recipes that start from Applied Energistics 2, Refined Storage and Mekanism cables and tubes.[13][15][18]

How does Ender IO work with other mods?

6 parts

Ender IO connects to a lot of the pack's other mods, mostly through recipes the pack adds or changes. The quest chapters only ask for Ender IO items, so these links show up in recipes rather than in the quest book. Below, the links are grouped by the mod on the other side.[13][15][16][17][18]

Mekanism transport parts become Ender IO conduits

The pack adds several recipes that produce Conduit Bundle from Mekanism transport parts: basic, advanced and elite pressurized tubes, the advanced thermodynamic conductor, and two upgrade recipes that start from Infused Alloy or Reinforced Alloy. Here are two of them.[13]

Added by the pack: a Basic Pressurized Tube plus a conduit binder gives a conduit.

Grains of Infinity

Grains of Infinity is the Ender IO item that shows up in the most recipes from other mods. It is the first quest in the Ender IO chapter, and it appears in two quests in the opening chapter as well.[13][15][16]

Grains of infinity feed pack-added recipes for items from other mods, including AE2's Tiny TNT, Black Quartz, the Void Crystal Catalyst, the Dripping Upgrade and the Basicmagnet. The pack also changed the Gateways recipe for the Gate Pearl to include the grains. A number of in-world Lychee recipes (burning, exploding and item inside) involve the grains too.[13]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Ender IO?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Ender IO shows up in five quest chapters in this pack. The big one is the dedicated enderio chapter. The rest are small appearances in logistics, the_beginning, gearing_up and power. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I'll describe each one by what it asks you to hold.[3][4][5][6][7]

The enderio chapter

This chapter starts with a quest in "?", which asks for Grains of Infinity. a quest in "?" follows. It wants a Stirling Generator plus a checkmark task. Almost everything else branches from there.[3]

  1. a quest in "?" asks for the Alloy Smelter. a quest in "?" asks for the Basic Capacitor. Both unlock after the Stirling Generator quest.[3]
  2. Once you have the Alloy Smelter quest done, five quests open up: a quest in "?" (Energetic Alloy Ingot), a quest in "?" (Dark Steel Ingot), a quest in "?" (Soularium Ingot), a quest in "?" (Vacuum Chest and XP Vacuum) and a quest in "?" (Conduit Bundle and Yeta Wrench). a quest in "?", for the Vibrant Alloy Ingot, needs both the Alloy Smelter quest and the Energetic Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
  3. Conduit branch: a quest in "?" comes after the conduit quest. It asks for a Conduit Facade and a Painting Machine.[3]

Capacitor line

  1. a quest in "?" asks for the Basic Capacitor Bank after the Basic Capacitor quest.[3]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for the Double-Layer Capacitor. It needs the Basic Capacitor quest and the Energetic Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for the Advanced Capacitor Bank.[3]
  4. a quest in "?" asks for the Octadic Capacitor. It needs the Double-Layer Capacitor quest and the Vibrant Alloy Ingot quest.[3]
  5. a quest in "?" finishes the line with the Vibrant Capacitor Bank.[3]

The Vibrant Alloy Ingot quest also unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for the Electromagnet.[3]

Dark steel and soularium branches

After the Dark Steel Ingot quest you get three quests. a quest in "?" asks for the Enchanter. a quest in "?" asks for The Ender. a quest in "?" asks for the SAG Mill plus any one of several grinding balls, such as the Dark Steel Grinding Ball.[3]

The soularium side starts with a quest in "?" (XP Obelisk) and a quest in "?" (Slice'N'Splice). The Slice'N'Splice quest leads to a quest in "?", which asks for a Soul Vial and a Soul Binder. a quest in "?" needs both of those two quests. It asks for a Broken Spawner and a Powered Spawner.[3]

The Soul Vial and Soul Binder quest also unlocks a quest in "?", for the Ender Crystal. That opens two final quests: a quest in "?" (Grains of the End) and a quest in "?" (Staff of Travelling and Travel Anchor).[3]

Which Ender IO config options matter?

6 parts

Good news: in the base and machines configs, Ender IO sits at its mod defaults almost everywhere in this pack. Only two values there are flagged as changed, so most guides you read for the mod will match what you see in game. Both changes are below, followed by the settings you're most likely to go looking for.[12][14]

Values the pack changed

  • items.levitationstaff.maxEnergy is 1,000 in the pack, down from the mod default of 10,000. The levitation staff holds a tenth of its usual charge, so you'll recharge it often.[14]
  • energy.wiredCharger.usage is 64 uI/t in the pack, up from the mod default of 30. The wired charger draws more than usual, so plan your power budget around it.[12]
Tip: The levitation staff's items.levitationstaff.energyUse is still the mod default of 1. Only the capacity was cut.[14]

Power storage and generation

Powered spawner

All of these powered spawner settings are mod defaults in the pack.[12]

Travel and utility items

Enchanter and Dark Steel

The enchanter uses a enchanter.baseLevelCost of 2, a enchanter.lapisCostFactor of 3 and a enchanter.levelCostFactor of 0.75. The lapis cost is the enchant level multiplied by the lapis factor.[12]

Client-side options

visual.machineParticles is on (true). ioconfig.neighbourTransparency is 0.4. Range boxes are color-coded, as the list below shows.[20][21]

What changed in Ender IO between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2 1.9.0 ships Ender IO 7.1.8-alpha. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so that is as far back as the pack files let me trace it.[22]

Ender IO 7.1.8-alpha

This is the build you are playing with in 1.9.0. Its changelog lists three bug fixes:[22][23]

  • Powered machines now update their state correctly.[23]
  • Loading large conduit networks from 1.20.1 has been fixed (a port of the fix).[23]
  • The mod was updated to the beta release of Refined Storage.[23]

The changelog also carries an update dated 28/08/2025: this build is now marked as a beta, and the developers suggest it over the incoming 8.0 alphas if you want stability.[23]

Watch out: Going from Ender IO 8 back down to 7 is not possible without data loss or corruption. If you ever move a world or test an 8.0 alpha outside the pack, keep a backup first.[23]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Ender IO were available, so earlier version changes inside FTB Skies 2 are unverified.
