What is AE2 Things?
1 part
AE2 Things is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on, and this pack ships version 1.4.2-beta of it. It has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier.[1]
The one thing the pack's quest book says about it is that AE2 Things lets you make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost. That's the way out if you don't want to deal with typed drives. Regular Item Storage Cells hold up to 63 different item types, and the quest notes that add-ons in this pack change what gets stored and how.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
AE2 Things doesn't get its own chapter. It shows up in the "Applied Energistics 2" chapter, which is in the "Logistics" group and is chapter 11 of 41 in the book. The chapter has 56 quests.[2]
The mention is in the quest "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest, which comes after the "Cables and Channels" quest. Its tasks are the ME Drive and the 1k ME Storage Component, and the reward is a choice of the storage type you want.[2]
The text of 38 of the chapter's 56 quests wasn't available to me. If you want the full picture of what comes before and after, check the chapter in the quest book.[2]
How do you get started with AE2 Things?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
AE2 Things adds its own ME DISK Drives, and in this pack every one of them is built around an AE2 storage component of the matching size. So the first job is to get the components for the tier you want, then craft the drive.[3]
The drives come in these sizes: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive.[3]
Start with the ME DISK Housing
The first item to make is the ME DISK Housing. Every drive tier has a shapeless recipe that combines a housing with the matching storage component, so crafting the housing first keeps your options open.[3]

The housing is crafted on its own, with no storage component needed.
Craft your first drive
Next, make the 1k ME DISK Drive. You can craft it from scratch with the shaped recipe, or use the housing you just made with the shapeless one.[3]

Move up the tiers
The bigger drives follow the same pattern. Each tier has a shaped recipe and a shapeless housing recipe, and the only thing that changes is the storage component you feed in. Here is the 4k ME DISK Drive.[3]

How does AE2 Things work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
This is a short section. The sources for this pack only cover the crafting side of AE2 Things, so that is all I can confirm here.[3]
The DISK Drive tiers
The mod's drives in this pack come in these capacity tiers: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive. Each tier is built around the ME Storage Component of the same size, so you step up by moving to the next component.[3]
Crafting a DISK Drive
Every tier has a shaped recipe and a shapeless recipe. The shaped recipe makes the drive straight from the matching storage component and raw materials. The shapeless recipe combines the storage component with a premade ME DISK Housing.[3]
Here is the housing, followed by the 1k drive in both versions. The other tiers follow the same pattern with their own storage component.[3]

How do you progress through AE2 Things?
8 parts
AE2 Things adds one line of progression to the pack: the ME DISK Drive, in five tiers from 1k to 256k. None of the quests in the Applied Energistics 2 chapter lists an AE2 Things item as a task. The mod is only named in the storage part of that chapter, which sits in the Logistics group (chapter 11 of 41 in the quest book).[2][4]
Where it fits in the quest path
The quest text for digital storage is the one that points you to this mod. It says AE2Things lets you make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost than the regular typed ones. This is the route to follow before you get there:[2]
- "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest starts the chapter with the Charger.[2]
- "A Certain Quartz" quest and then "Certus Quartz Budding" quest get you your Certus Quartz.[2]
- "Inscribing Processors" quest and "Silicon" quest set up your printed parts and Printed Silicon.[2]
- "Completing Processors" quest is the key step. Its text says the finished Processors are the main components for Terminals, Disk Drives and more.[2]
- "Cables and Channels" quest covers cables and channels.[2]
- "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest is where you build the ME Drive and your first storage cells.[2]
The text of that last quest says an ME Drive houses up to 10 AE Disks, and a regular Item Storage Cell holds up to 63 different item types. After it, the chapter moves on to "Cell Workbench" quest, "MEGA Storage" quest and "Autocrafting" quest.[2]
The disk drive tiers
There are five drives: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive. Each tier is built from the ME storage component of the same size, so your progression here follows the AE2 storage components you can already make.[4]
Every tier can be made two ways: a direct crafting recipe, or a shapeless recipe that uses an ME DISK Housing. The recipe dump lists all of these as mod recipes.[4]

How does AE2 Things work with other mods?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
AE2 Things is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so its main link in this pack is with AE2 itself. Every ME DISK Drive tier is built around the AE2 storage component of the same size: 1k ME Storage Component, 4k ME Storage Component, 16k ME Storage Component, 64k ME Storage Component or 256k ME Storage Component. Quartz Glass from AE2 also shows up in the direct drive recipes and in the housing recipe.[3]
Two ways to craft a DISK Drive
Each tier has a direct recipe and a second, shapeless recipe that uses the ME DISK Housing. If you plan to make several drives, craft the housing first. Then each drive only needs the housing and the matching AE2 storage component.[3]

Tag-based ingredients
Some slots in the direct drive recipes and the housing recipe don't ask for one fixed item. They accept any item from a shared common tag. So an item from any mod in the pack that carries the right tag will work there.[3]
- 1k ME DISK Drive pairs with the 1k AE2 storage component, and 4k ME DISK Drive with the 4k one.[3]
- 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive each pair with the AE2 storage component of the same size.[3]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use AE2 Things?
3 parts
In this pack, AE2 Things doesn't get its own quest chapter. The quest book mentions it inside the chapter "Applied Energistics 2", which sits in the Logistics group (chapter 11 of 41) and has 56 quests.[2]
The quest that names the mod
The one quest text that names AE2Things is "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest. It asks you to bring the ME Drive (ME Drive) and a 1k storage cell component (1k ME Storage Component). The quest explains that a drive can house up to 10 AE disks, and that each regular item storage cell holds up to 63 different item types.[2]
The AE2Things part is a tip for anyone who wants to avoid typed drives. The quest says AE2Things lets you make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost. The quest also rewards you with a choice of the storage type you want.[2]
How you get there
The chapter gets you there through this chain of quests, in order:[2]
- "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest asks for a Charger and opens the chapter.[2]
- "A Certain Quartz" quest covers getting Certus Quartz, and "Certus Quartz Budding" quest follows it.[2]
- "Inscribing Processors" quest comes next and leads to "Silicon" quest.[2]
- "Completing Processors" quest asks for a completed processor of any of the three kinds.[2]
- "Cables and Channels" quest explains channels and cables, and it unlocks the digital storage quest.[2]
- "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest is the quest that mentions AE2Things.[2]
What opens up afterwards
Three quests list the digital storage quest as their prerequisite: "Cell Workbench" quest, "MEGA Storage" quest and "Autocrafting" quest. The Cell Workbench quest is about choosing which items a storage cell accepts. MEGA Storage is the big-cell route. Autocrafting is the first step toward crafting CPUs.[2]
