What is Theurgy?
2 parts
Theurgy is an open-source magic mod built around classical alchemy. You use it to replicate and transmute matter and to create magical artifacts. This pack ships version 1.61.3.[1][2]
Instead of the usual four elements (air, water, fire, earth), it works with Sulfur, Salt and Mercury, and handles them through a group of processes called Spagyrics. The author aims for a balanced experience: not as overpowered as Equivalent Exchange, but somewhat more practicable than Thaumcraft.[1]
Who it's for
If you like a tech-style progression where you build apparatus, feed them materials and slowly work towards transmuting matter, this is your mod. In-game documentation comes from a book called The Hermetica, delivered through Modonomicon, so you can follow its steps as you go.[1]
Unverified The project page says you can craft The Hermetica from a book and sand, but the sources don't confirm that this is still its recipe in this pack, so check the in-game recipe viewer. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
What the quest chapter covers
The pack has a dedicated Theurgy quest chapter. It starts you off with the divination rods, then moves through the core apparatus.[3]
- Divination rods: the Glass, Iron, Diamond and Netherite tiers (Glass Divination Rod up to Netherite Divination Rod), plus the sulfur-attuned and amethyst rods, such as Divination Rod: Common Materials and Divination Rod: Amethyst.[3]
- Salts: after the Calcination Oven you get quests for the strata, plant, mineral and creature salts, for example Alchemical Salt Strata.[3]
- Mercury: after the Mercury Distiller comes the Mercury Shard, which leads on to the Mercury Catalyst and Mercurial Copper Wire.[3]
- Logistics: once you have the copper wire, the chapter covers the Mercurial item and fluid inserters and extractors, the Mercurial Connection Node, the filters and the Mercurial Wand.[3]
- Later apparatus: the Incubator with its vessels, the Fermentation Vat and Digestion Vat, the reformation pedestals, and finally the Sulfuric Flux Emitter.[3]
Theurgy has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the modlist.[2]
Unverified The sources don't show where Theurgy sits in the pack's overall progression, so treat the quest chapter as your guide to order. Theurgy is not on the ATM Star quest path.
How do you get started with Theurgy?
5 parts
Theurgy is built around three alchemical ingredients: Salt, Mercury and Sulfur. Your first job in this pack is to build the machines that pull each one out of ordinary items, and the Calcination Oven, Mercury Distiller, Liquefaction Cauldron and Incubator all need a heat source underneath them. The mod's in-game guide is called The Hermetica.[1][4]
Get some heat
The tooltips for the oven, distiller, cauldron and incubator all say to place them on top of a heating device such as the Pyromantic Brazier. In the quest book, the brazier (a quest in "?") and the Caloric Flux Emitter (a quest in "?") both come after the same earlier quest.[3][4]
The emitter heats an apparatus from a distance. Sneak-right-click the apparatus to set it as the target, then place the emitter on a Mercury Flux source such as a Mercury Catalyst.[4]

Salt and Mercury
Two quests unlock next: a quest in "?" for the Calcination Oven and a quest in "?" for the Mercury Distiller. The oven extracts Alchemical Salt from items, and salt represents the physical matter of an object. The distiller extracts Alchemical Mercury, which represents the energy of an object.[3][4]

Salt comes in several kinds, and the quests after the oven ask for strata, plant, mineral and creature salt. Stone, dirt and sand give Alchemical Salt Strata, logs and crops give Alchemical Salt Plant, and ores, ingots and gems give Alchemical Salt Mineral. Alchemical Salt Creature is made by calcining plant salt.[3][5]
After the distiller, a quest in "?" asks for a Mercury Shard. The Mercurial Copper Wire, the Mercury Catalyst and the Incubator Mercury Vessel all follow that quest. The catalyst turns mercury shards into Mercury Flux, which is pure energy that some processes can use.[3][4]
Sulfur through Sal Ammoniac
Sulfur comes from the Liquefaction Cauldron, which extracts it from items using a Solvent. In the quest book it sits behind Sal Ammoniac. You start with an Sal Ammoniac Crystal (a quest in "?"), then the Sal Ammoniac Accumulator and Sal Ammoniac Tank (a quest in "?"), and then the cauldron (a quest in "?").[3][4]
This pack adds its own ways to get the crystal: both a crushing recipe and a Mekanism enriching recipe turn Sal Ammoniac ore into crystals.[5]

Put it all together
The Incubator recombines Sulfur, Salt and Mercury into items. It needs a vessel for each of the three, placed horizontally next to it, so make the Incubator Salt Vessel, Incubator Sulfur Vessel and Incubator Mercury Vessel too. a quest in "?" for the incubator follows all three vessel quests.[3][4]

How does Theurgy work?
8 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Theurgy builds its machines around three alchemical essences: Salt, Mercury and Sulfur. Salt is the "body" of an object, Mercury is its "energy", and Sulfur is its "idea" or "soul". Each essence has its own apparatus. Heat comes from a brazier or an emitter, and the logistics blocks handle automation. The ones below are the machines the sources describe in detail.[6]
Heat: the Pyromantic Brazier
The Pyromantic Brazier is the basic heater for alchemical apparatus. You place it below the machine you want to heat. Right-click it with a fuel item to load it, or feed it with a hopper.[6]

Extracting Salt, Mercury and Sulfur
Three machines break items down into the essences. The calcination oven, the distiller and the liquefaction cauldron are each placed on top of a heating device such as the brazier, and you right-click them with ingredients to load them.[6]
- The Calcination Oven extracts Alchemical Salt from items.[6][7]
- The Mercury Distiller extracts Alchemical Mercury from items. Mercury works both as an energy source and as a catalyst.[6][7]
- The Liquefaction Cauldron extracts Alchemical Sulfur from items, and it needs a solvent to do so.[6]

Making solvent: the Sal Ammoniac setup
The solvent for the Liquefaction Cauldron is concentrated Sal Ammoniac fluid. The Sal Ammoniac Tank stores the fluid, and the Sal Ammoniac Accumulator goes on top of it. Right-click the accumulator with water buckets. The water is consumed to slowly fill the tank below. You can also add Sal Ammoniac Crystals to the accumulator to speed things up.[6]
Recombining: the Incubator
The Incubator recombines Sulfur, Salt and Mercury into items. It is a small multiblock. It sits on top of a heating device, and it needs a vessel for each of the three essences placed horizontally next to it. Right-click each vessel with the matching alchemical item to fill it. Only then can the incubator process it.[6]
- Incubator Sulfur Vessel holds Sulfur.[6][7]
- Incubator Salt Vessel holds Salt.[6][7]
- Incubator Mercury Vessel holds Mercury.[6][7]

Power: Mercury Flux
The Mercury Catalyst converts mercury from crystal form into flux form. Mercury flux is pure energy that some processes use as a power source. Right-click the catalyst with Mercury Shard to add shards. They are consumed slowly to fill its internal energy storage with flux.[6][7]

The Caloric Flux Emitter turns that flux into Caloric Flux, which is heat you can send to an apparatus remotely. Sneak-right-click the apparatus to set it as the target, then place the emitter on a flux source such as the catalyst. The emitter keeps the target heated for as long as it receives flux. The maximum range is 8 blocks. It is enabled by default, and an active redstone signal disables it, so it stops sending caloric flux to the target.[6]
The pack gives the emitter two recipes, one that uses a campfire and one that uses a lava bucket.[7]

Vats: fermentation and digestion
The Fermentation Vat is required for transmutation, which converts between types of matter, such as metals and gems. The Digestion Vat is required for exaltation, which converts between tiers of matter, such as common to rare (for example iron to gold). Both work the same way. Right-click with ingredients to load them. Then shift-right-click with an empty hand to close the vat and start processing, or open it again to stop.[6][7]

Sulfur reformation array
Sulfur replication uses a reformation array. The Source pedestal holds the Sulfur to be reformed. The Target pedestal holds the Sulfur it should become. The result appears in the Result pedestal. A Sulfuric Flux Emitter ties them together. Right-click the Source, Target and Reformation pedestals with the emitter to set them as its targets. Then place the emitter on a Mercury Flux source such as a Mercury Catalyst.[6]
Logistics and automation
Mercurial Logistics is Theurgy's own pipe-free network for moving items and fluids. To set up an extractor or inserter, right-click the target block with it to place it, then right-click it with a cable to connect it to the network. Extractors pull from a block into the network, and inserters push from the network into a block. There are separate item and fluid versions. The Mercurial Connection Node joins multiple wires. Place the node, then wire it to other nodes or other logistics blocks.[6][7]
- Mercurial Item Extractor and Mercurial Item Inserter move items.[6][7]
- Mercurial Fluid Extractor and Mercurial Fluid Inserter move fluids.[6][7]

How do you progress through Theurgy?
5 parts
Theurgy's quest chapter in this pack is a branching tree. The quests have no titles, so you follow them by the item each one asks for. Most quests are simply "craft this machine", and the order they unlock in is a good guide to how the mod is meant to be learned.[3]
Step 1: Calcination and salts
The first real machine in the chapter is the Calcination Oven (a quest in "?"). It unlocks four salt quests: Alchemical Salt Strata, Alchemical Salt Plant, Alchemical Salt Mineral and Alchemical Salt Creature.[3]

The salts chain into each other. Strata salt can be calcined into mineral salt, and plant salt into creature salt. Strata salt itself comes from stone-like blocks such as cobblestone, sand and dirt. Plant salt comes from logs, leaves, saplings and crops, and mineral salt from ores, ingots, gems and raw materials.[5]
Step 2: Mercury and logistics
The Mercury Distiller (a quest in "?") also unlocks straight after the same earlier quest as the oven, and it leads to the Mercury Shard (a quest in "?"). The shard opens three quests: Mercury Catalyst, Incubator Mercury Vessel and Mercurial Copper Wire.[3]

The copper wire quest (a quest in "?") is the gateway to the whole logistics branch. It unlocks the Mercurial Wand, the Mercurial Connection Node, the item inserter and extractor, the fluid inserter and extractor, and the Mercurial List Filter and Mercurial Attribute Filter. Each of those is a separate quest.[3]
Step 3: The incubator
The Incubator (a quest in "?") needs three earlier quests done first: the mercury vessel, the Incubator Salt Vessel and the Incubator Sulfur Vessel. The salt vessel quest waits for all four salt quests, so finish the whole calcination branch before you get here.[3]

Sal ammoniac, vats and reformation
Sal ammoniac starts with the Sal Ammoniac Crystal (a quest in "?"). The pack adds its own ways to get the crystal: a crushing recipe from Actually Additions and an enriching recipe from Mekanism, both taking sal ammoniac ore. After that come the Sal Ammoniac Accumulator and Sal Ammoniac Tank (a quest in "?"), then the Liquefaction Cauldron (a quest in "?").[3][5]
Enriching (mekanism)
- any sal ammoniac ore

This recipe was added by the pack.
The fermentation branch runs from the Fermentation Vat (a quest in "?") to the Digestion Vat and the Fermentation Starter. The reformation branch is a strict chain of pedestals: source (a quest in "?"), then target (a quest in "?"), then result (a quest in "?"). It ends with the Sulfuric Flux Emitter (a quest in "?").[3]
Heat and divination rods
The Pyromantic Brazier and the Caloric Flux Emitter each have their own quest, and they share a prerequisite. The emitter has two in-pack recipes, one using a campfire and one using a lava bucket.[3][5]
Divination rods form a separate side branch. The four main rods go by material: Glass Divination Rod (glass), Iron Divination Rod (iron), Diamond Divination Rod (diamond) and Netherite Divination Rod (netherite). All four have their own quests, and none of them requires the others. There are also quests for the sulfur-attuned rods (Divination Rod: Common Materials, Divination Rod: Abundant Materials, Divination Rod: Rare Materials and Divination Rod: Precious Materials) and for the Divination Rod: Amethyst.[3][5]

How does Theurgy work with other mods?
5 parts
Theurgy plugs into the rest of the pack mostly through its recipes. The pack uses Theurgy's incubation recipes to produce materials from other mods, and it uses liquefaction recipes to turn those materials into custom sulfurs. If you want to bring Theurgy into your wider progression, these recipes are where it happens.[5]
Metals and gems from All The Ores
The pack has incubation recipes that change the sulfur-to-material conversions for a long list of All The Ores materials. For ingots, that covers Aluminum Ingot, Iridium Ingot, Lead Ingot, Nickel Ingot, Osmium Ingot, Platinum Ingot, Silver Ingot, Tin Ingot, Uranium Ingot and Zinc Ingot.[5]
The same goes for the gems Cinnabar, Fluorite, Peridot, Ruby and Sapphire. Each one comes from its own matching alchemical sulfur, such as Alchemical Sulfur Ruby for the ruby.[5]
The sources only mark these recipes as changed by the pack. They don't show what the mod's defaults were, so I can't tell you what exactly differs.[5]
Modern Industrialization
Three Modern Industrialization materials get the same treatment: Antimony Ingot, Tungsten Ingot and Lignite Coal. They come from Alchemical Sulfur Antimony, Alchemical Sulfur Tungsten and Alchemical Sulfur Lignite Coal, and the pack changed these recipes too.[5]
Recipes the pack adds for other mods
The pack also adds brand-new incubation recipes for items from several other mods. These items have custom sulfurs defined by the pack's scripts:[5]
- Arcane Crystal, Rune and Stellarite Piece from Forbidden Arcanus.[5]
- Bort from Silent Gear.[5]
- Iesnium Ingot from Occultism.[5]
- Mithril Ingot from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.[5]
- Prosperity Shard from Mystical Agriculture.[5]
- Salt and Sulfur from All The Ores.[5]
Here is one example, the Mithril Ingot:[5]
Making the custom sulfurs
The custom sulfurs, such as Mithril Sulfur, Iesnium Sulfur, Bort Sulfur, Arcane Sulfur and Runic Sulfur, are made with liquefaction recipes that the pack adds. They use Sal Ammoniac together with the matching ore, raw material, ingot or gem. Many of these accept anything in a common tag, so any mod's version of that material should work.[5]
A few recipes take the finished item directly. A Prosperity Shard gives Prosperity Sulfur, a Stellarite Piece gives Stellarite Sulfur, and a Rune gives Runic Sulfur. Here is the Prosperity Shard one:[5]
Liquefaction (theurgy)
Recipe id: theurgy:kjs/96gc9r46ix2zk8j162yvgpdgi
Salt and sulfur get the same loop. Salt Sulfur comes from salt dusts or salt ore, and Sulfur Sulfur comes from sulfur dusts or sulfur ore.[5]
Quests
The Theurgy quest chapter only asks you to obtain Theurgy items, such as machines, vessels, salts, divination rods and logistics parts. I found no quest in the provided sources that combines Theurgy with items from other mods.[3]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Theurgy?
7 parts
All of this mod's quests sit in a single chapter called "theurgy". None of the quests have titles, so I refer to them by ID. Every one of them just asks you to get an item, with no kill, location or other task types. A few quests ask for two items at once.[3]
Several quests unlock after quests that aren't in the list I was given. I can't say what those earlier quests are, so I only describe the order between quests I can confirm.[3]
Sal ammoniac and liquefaction
- a quest in "?" asks for a Sal Ammoniac Crystal. It has no prerequisite.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for both a Sal Ammoniac Accumulator and a Sal Ammoniac Tank. It follows the crystal quest and one other quest I can't identify.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Liquefaction Cauldron.[3]
Calcination and salts
a quest in "?" asks for a Calcination Oven. Four salt quests unlock after it, one per salt type.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for Alchemical Salt Strata.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for Alchemical Salt Plant.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for Alchemical Salt Mineral.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for Alchemical Salt Creature.[3]
Mercury and logistics
a quest in "?" asks for the Mercury Distiller. It unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for a Mercury Shard. Three quests then open up: a quest in "?" for the Incubator Mercury Vessel, a quest in "?" for the Mercury Catalyst, and a quest in "?" for Mercurial Copper Wire.[3]
The copper wire quest unlocks the mercurial logistics quests:[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mercurial Wand.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mercurial Connection Node.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mercurial Item Inserter and the Mercurial Item Extractor.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mercurial Fluid Inserter and the Mercurial Fluid Extractor.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Mercurial List Filter and the Mercurial Attribute Filter.[3]
Incubator
a quest in "?" asks for the Incubator Salt Vessel and unlocks only once all four salt quests are done. a quest in "?" asks for the Incubator Sulfur Vessel. The final quest, a quest in "?", asks for the Incubator itself. It needs the mercury vessel, salt vessel and sulfur vessel quests all finished.[3]
Fermentation, digestion and reformation
a quest in "?" asks for the Fermentation Vat. After it you can do a quest in "?" for the Fermentation Starter and a quest in "?" for the Digestion Vat.[3]
The reformation line runs as a strict chain, and it ends with the flux emitter:[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Reformation Source Pedestal.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Reformation Target Pedestal.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Reformation Result Pedestal.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Sulfuric Flux Emitter.[3]
Heating
Two quests share the same unlisted prerequisite: a quest in "?" for the Pyromantic Brazier and a quest in "?" for the Caloric Flux Emitter.[3]
Divination rods
The rod quests all unlock after the same unlisted quest, so you can tackle them in any order. The first four cover the tiered rods:[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Glass Divination Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Iron Divination Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Diamond Divination Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Netherite Divination Rod.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Divination Rod: Amethyst.[3]
Four more cover the sulfur-attuned rods:[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Divination Rod: Common Materials.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Divination Rod: Abundant Materials.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Divination Rod: Rare Materials.[3]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Divination Rod: Precious Materials.[3]
