What is Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Iron Jetpacks adds fully customizable jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE). The mod ships with a set of default jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials, and because they use FE, they work with a lot of other mods' chargers. The pack includes version 8.0.11.[1][2]

It's for anyone who wants to get around faster and have fun doing it. You get a built-in HUD showing your energy, engine, hover and throttle stats, plus throttle controls so you can change your flying speed on the fly.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter is where you start. You begin with a Wood Jetpack, and it can be upgraded all the way to a Creative Jetpack. There are many versions, but they all work the same way.[3]

You can wear a Jetpack in your chestplate slot, as a Back Curio, or as a Curio Curio. Any item charger can fill it with FE. If you run out of energy, you drop.[1][3]

Flying

  • Turn on your engine with V, then hold Space to fly up. You drop when you let go.[3]
  • Hover has no default key. When it's on, you stay at the same altitude, go higher with Space and lower with Shift.[3]
  • Throttle sets how fast you fly. By default, comma decreases it and period increases it.[3]

The late-game goal

The quest "Creative Jetpack" quest sits in Chapter 4: Creative and comes after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. Its text pitches the Creative Jetpack as the fix for running out of energy, and warns you may need to craft the earlier jetpacks as ATM Star versions, plus more expensive items. Iron Jetpacks itself isn't part of the ATM Star path.[4]

Unverified The sources don't list the jetpack tiers between the Wood and Creative Jetpack, or whether the pack changed any default jetpack stats.

How do you get started with Iron Jetpacks?

4 parts

Iron Jetpacks is a Forge Energy powered jetpack mod with a whole ladder of jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials. It also has throttle controls and a built-in HUD that shows your energy, engine, hover and throttle status. It's a great way to get around, and the Tips and Tricks quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest is your starting point in this pack.[1][5]

In All the Mods 10 you start with a Wood Jetpack and upgrade from there, all the way up to a Creative Jetpack. There are lots of versions, but they all work the same way, so once you've learned the Wood Jetpack you know how to fly all of them.[5]

Your first crafts

The mod has a small set of simple crafting components you can make early. The Leather Strap is an easy early craft.[6]

Unverified The pack's recipe list doesn't include the Wood Jetpack or the thrusters, capacitors and energy cells for the normal tiers. It also doesn't show which coil goes into which tier, or what the Leather Strap is used for. Look these up in-game before you gather materials.

Charging it up

Every jetpack runs on FE, and you can charge them in any item charger. Flying uses up that energy. Keep an eye on the HUD so you know how much charge you have left.[1][5]

Watch out: If your jetpack runs out of energy while you're in the air, you will drop. Charge it before any big flight.[5]

Taking off

  1. Equip your jetpack in your chestplate slot or a Curios slot, such as the back slot.[1][5]
  2. Turn on the engine with V.[5]
  3. Hold Space to fly up. Let go and you drop.[5]
  4. If you'd rather not drop, turn on Hover. It has no key bound by default, so set one in your controls. With Hover on you stay at the same height, go up with Space and go down with Shift.[5]
  5. Change your flying speed with the throttle. By default, comma lowers it and period raises it.[5]
Tip: Bind a key for Hover right away. Staying level while you build or look around is much nicer than constantly dropping.[5]

The long-term goal

At the very top is the Creative Jetpack, from the "Creative Jetpack" quest quest in the Creative chapter. It comes after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest, needs an ATM Star and other expensive items, and you may need to make every jetpack before it. The reward is far less time spent charging. In this pack, the Creative Jetpack and its creative parts use recipes added by the pack itself.[6][7]

How does Iron Jetpacks work?

5 parts

Iron Jetpacks runs on Forge Energy (FE), so your jetpack stores power and uses it while you fly. Because it uses FE, it works with power from the wider modded ecosystem. A built-in HUD shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats. Throttle controls let you change your flight speed while you're in the air.[1]

Each jetpack is defined by its own config file. You can adjust all of its stats, and you can even add your own jetpacks. In All the Mods 10, each file sets the jetpack's crafting material tag, a disable toggle, its colour, its tier and every movement and energy value covered below.[1][8]

Tiers, capacity and energy use

Two values decide how long you can stay airborne. capacity is how much energy the jetpack holds, and usage is how much it draws while you fly. Higher tiers get much bigger tanks, but they also drain faster. Here's how the pack sets them up:[8][9]

  • Copper, tier 1: capacity 75,000, usage 80.[9]
  • Iron and Bronze, tier 2: capacity 120,000, usage 120 each.[10][11]
  • Silver: capacity 120,000.[12]
  • Gold and Invar, tier 3: capacity 400,000, usage 300 each.[13][14]
  • Electrum, tier 3: capacity 500,000, usage 310.[15]
  • Diamond, tier 4: capacity 5,000,000, usage 600.[16]
  • Platinum, tier 4: capacity 7,000,000, usage 700.[17]
  • Emerald, tier 5: capacity 12,500,000, usage 900.[18]
  • Allthemodium, tier 6: capacity 60,000,000, usage 1,600.[8]
Tip: Compare the ends of the ladder. Copper holds 75,000 and uses 80, while allthemodium holds 60,000,000 and uses 1,600. The bigger tank more than makes up for the higher draw, so upgrading gets you more time in the air as well as more speed.[8][9]

Unverified The pack files don't confirm the exact unit and timing of the usage value (for example, FE per tick). Silver's tier, usage and movement stats also aren't confirmed.

Movement stats

Hover over a jetpack to see its movement stats in the tooltip: Horizontal Speed, Vertical Acceleration, Hover Ascend Speed, Hover Descend Speed, Sprint Vertical Multiplier and Sprint Fuel Modifier.[19]

Climbing gets faster with each tier. Copper has a vertical speed of 0.16 and a vertical acceleration of 0.11. Allthemodium reaches 0.45 vertical speed with 0.17 acceleration. Sideways speed goes from 0.07 on copper to 0.18 on allthemodium.[8][9][19]

Hovering has its own values. Hover ascend speed goes from 0.21 on copper to 0.45 on allthemodium. Hover descend speed is 0.25 on copper and 0.35 on allthemodium. The base hover value drops from 0.1 on copper to 0.0025 on allthemodium.[8][9][19]

Sprinting has three settings. Two of them scale your speed: sprintSpeedMulti horizontally and sprintSpeedMultiVertical vertically. The third, sprintFuelMulti, is the Sprint Fuel Modifier shown on the tooltip. Copper uses 1.05, 1.025 and 1.2. Allthemodium uses 1.5, 1.4 and 4.5.[8][9][19]

Tip: The sprint fuel modifier goes up as you climb the tiers: 2 on iron, 3.5 on diamond and 4.5 on allthemodium. Save sprint boosts for when you really need the extra speed.[8][10][16][19]

Unverified The pack files don't explain exactly how the Sprint Fuel Modifier changes energy drain, or what the base hover value does in flight.

Armor and Curios

Jetpacks also give you armor points. Copper, gold and electrum give 2. Iron, bronze and invar give 3. Diamond, platinum and emerald give 4. Allthemodium gives 9. Toughness and knockback resistance are 0 on all of these.[8][9][10][11][13][14][15][16][17][18]

Gold and allthemodium both have an enchantability of 25, compared with 9 for iron and bronze.[8][10][11][13]

You can equip your jetpack as a Curio. The pack sets the curios option to true for its jetpacks.[1][8][9][16]

Crafting components

The mod comes with four coil tiers: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. It also has the Leather Strap, plus capacitor, energy cell and thruster items. All four coils and the strap use the mod's own shaped recipes in this pack.[6]

The creative jetpack

The creative jetpack is set up differently from the rest. Its creative flag is true, its tier is -1, and capacity, usage and the sprint fuel modifier are all 0. It's also the fastest option, with a vertical speed of 0.6, a sideways speed of 0.25 and a sprint speed multiplier of 2.[20]

How do you progress through Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Every jetpack journey in this pack starts small: your first one is a Wood Jetpack, and from there you can upgrade all the way to a Creative Jetpack. There are many versions, but they all work the same way, so the main thing that changes as you climb is what it takes to build them.[5]

Getting started

Your entry point is the "Iron Jetpacks" quest quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter. It asks you to craft a jetpack and points you to the Wood Jetpack as the place to begin.[5]

Whatever tier you're on, the jetpack runs on FE. You can top it up in any Item Charger, and if the energy runs out mid-flight you will drop. You can wear it in your Chestplate slot or in a Curio slot.[5]

Crafting components

The mod has a Leather Strap and four coils: the Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. These use the mod's own recipes and the pack hasn't replaced them, so you can craft them as shown below.[6]

Unverified The provided sources don't include the recipes for the Wood Jetpack or the tiers between Wood and Creative. They also don't say which coil goes with which tier, so this section doesn't cover them yet. Check the recipes in-game with a recipe viewer. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

The Creative tier

The top of the ladder is the "Creative Jetpack" quest quest in Chapter 4: Creative. It opens after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. The reward for all that work is a jetpack you'll never need to worry about running out of energy in. You just put it on and fly as normal, with a lot less charging. The quest text warns that you might need to make every jetpack before it, plus an ATM Star and other expensive items, so treat this as a true endgame goal.[7]

The pack adds its own recipes for the Creative Jetpack and for the three creative parts: the Creative Thruster, the Creative Energy Cell and the Creative Capacitor. Here they are:[6]

How does Iron Jetpacks work with other mods?

2 parts

Iron Jetpacks runs on Forge Energy (FE), so it works with the wider tech side of the pack. Any Item Charger can top up your jetpack, so you can use whatever charging setup you already have. The quest notes that you drop when you run out of energy, so keep that charger handy.[1][5]

You also aren't stuck wearing it in your chestplate slot. Thanks to Curios support, your jetpack can go in the Back Curio or Curio Curio slot instead, which frees up your chestplate for real armor.[1][5]

The pack's creative jetpack recipes

The big integration is at the very top of the tier list. The pack adds its own recipes for the creative jetpack and its three creative components. These recipes pull in endgame items from several other mods, so the creative jetpack becomes a true capstone rather than a standalone Iron Jetpacks goal.[6]

The creative Capacitor needs heavy energy tech from other mods, such as the Ultimate Induction Cell and the Reactor (Nitro), along with an Block of Unobtainium.[6]

The creative Cell is built around a Battery (Nitro) and Unobtainium.[6]

Quests

  • "Iron Jetpacks" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter introduces the mod. It explains that you start with a Wood Jetpack and can upgrade all the way to a Creative Jetpack, and it covers charging, flying, hover and throttle.[5]
  • "Creative Jetpack" quest sits in Chapter 4: Creative and unlocks after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. Its text says you might need to make every jetpack before it, plus an ATM Star and more expensive items. The payoff is a jetpack you never have to worry about recharging.[7]
Tip: Because the creative jetpack quest comes after Fully Automated ATM Star, treat it as a late-game goal. Get your ATM Star production running before you plan the build.[7]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Iron Jetpacks shows up in two places in the quest book. One quest is a how-to guide, and the other is a late-game reward. Both ask you to obtain a Jetpack.[3][4]

Tips and Tricks: Iron Jetpacks

The first one is "Iron Jetpacks" quest, in the Tips and Tricks chapter. It has no prerequisite listed, so you can pick it up whenever you like. Its task is to get a jetpack. The quest text tells you to start with a Wood Jetpack, which can be upgraded all the way to a Creative Jetpack.[3]

The quest also covers the basics of using one. Every tier works the same way. You can wear it in the Chestplate slot or in a Back Curio slot. It runs on FE, and any item charger can charge it. If you run out of energy, you drop.[3]

  • Engine: turn it on with V, then hold Space to fly up. You drop when you let go.[3]
  • Hover: it has no default key. When it is on, you stay at the same altitude. Space takes you higher and Shift takes you lower.[3]
  • Throttle: this sets how fast you fly. By default, comma lowers it and period raises it.[3]

Chapter 4: Creative

The second one is "Creative Jetpack" quest in Chapter 4: Creative. It unlocks after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest, so it is a late-game goal. Its task is again a jetpack.[4]

The quest text says this jetpack means you no longer need to worry about running out of energy. You put it on and use it as normal, just with less charging. It also warns that you may need every jetpack before it, an ATM Star, and other more expensive items to build it.[4]

Tip: Do the Iron Jetpacks quest early. It explains the controls, and the Engine, Hover and Throttle keys are worth learning before you start upgrading tiers.[3]

Which Iron Jetpacks config options matter?

4 parts

Every jetpack in Iron Jetpacks gets its own JSON file in the config/ironjetpacks/jetpacks folder, and all of its stats can be changed there. The mod runs on Forge Energy (FE), so the energy settings decide how long you can stay in the air. Here's how this pack sets up the options you're most likely to care about.[1][8][21]

Energy: capacity and usage

capacity sets how much energy a jetpack holds, and usage sets how much it uses. Both jump a lot as you move up the tiers. Here's what the pack sets for each jetpack.[21][22]

  • Wood (tier 0): capacity 20,000, usage 32.[21]
  • Stone (tier 1): capacity 50,000, usage 64.[23]
  • Copper (tier 1): capacity 75,000, usage 80.[9]
  • Iron, bronze and silver (tier 2): capacity 120,000, usage 120.[10][11][12]
  • Gold and invar (tier 3): capacity 400,000, usage 300.[13][14]
  • Electrum and steel (tier 3): capacity 500,000, usage 310.[15][24]
  • Diamond (tier 4): capacity 5,000,000, usage 600.[16]
  • Platinum (tier 4): capacity 7,000,000, usage 700.[17]
  • Emerald (tier 5): capacity 12,500,000, usage 900.[18]
  • Allthemodium (tier 6): capacity 60,000,000, usage 1,600.[8]
  • Vibranium (tier 7): capacity 120,000,000, usage 2,700.[25]
  • Unobtainium (tier 8): capacity 180,000,000, usage 4,000.[22]
  • Creative (tier -1): the creative option is set to true, with capacity 0 and usage 0.[20]

Speed and sprinting

speedVertical goes from 0.15 on the wood jetpack up to 0.55 on unobtainium, and the creative jetpack sits at 0.6. Sideways speed climbs the same way, from 0.05 on wood to 0.21 on unobtainium.[20][21][22]

Sprinting costs more at the top end. On unobtainium, sprintFuelMulti is 5.5 and sprintSpeedMulti is 1.7. On wood, both are just 1.[21][22]

Hover speed goes the other way. speedHover is 0.1 on wood, while vibranium and unobtainium have it set to 0.[21][22][25]

Armor

The endgame jetpacks also give you solid armor. armorPoints is 15 on unobtainium, 12 on vibranium and 9 on allthemodium. Toughness and knockback resistance are both 0 on all three.[8][22][25]

Availability and Curios

Tip: Because curios is turned on, you can equip your jetpack as a Curio, which frees up your usual armor slot.[1][8]

Unverified The mod's default values aren't in the available sources, so it can't be confirmed which of these numbers the pack changed from the defaults. The exact units for capacity and usage (for example, FE per tick) also aren't confirmed.

What changed in Iron Jetpacks between versions?

1 part

Iron Jetpacks has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was first included in version 2.2 or earlier, and in 5.2 you're flying with Iron Jetpacks 8.0.11, shipped as the jar IronJetpacks-1.21.1-8.0.11.jar.[26]

Updates across pack releases

The mod has had a steady run of small updates through the pack's life. Here's when each one landed.[27][28][29][30][31]

  • All the Mods 10 2.36 updated Iron Jetpacks from 8.0.6 to 8.0.7.[31]
  • All the Mods 10 2.47 updated Iron Jetpacks from 8.0.7 to 8.0.8.[30]
  • All the Mods 10 3.0 updated Iron Jetpacks from 8.0.8 to 8.0.9.[29]
  • All the Mods 10 4.6 updated Iron Jetpacks from 8.0.9 to 8.0.10.[28]
  • All the Mods 10 4.13 updated Iron Jetpacks from 8.0.10 to 8.0.11, the version still in the pack at 5.2.[26][27]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record the version bumps, and the mod's own changelogs for these jars aren't available. The specific fixes or feature changes in each update, such as changes to jetpack stats, recipes or config options, can't be confirmed here.
