What is Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Iron Jetpacks adds jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE), so they work with the many other mods that produce or move FE. It is described as both feature-rich and easy to use.[1]

This pack ships version 8.0.3 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since version 0.37 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]

What the mod gives you

  • Fully customizable jetpacks: all stats and attributes are configurable, and you can add your own jetpacks.[1]
  • A set of default jetpacks made from a mix of vanilla and modded materials.[1]
  • Throttle controls, so you can change your aerial movement speed on the fly.[1]
  • A built-in HUD that shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats.[1]
  • Curios support, so you can equip a jetpack as a Curio.[1]

Where it sits in the quest book

Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter, group or position for this mod, and they do not show it on the ATM Star path. Check the pack's quest book in game for any mention of it.

How do you get started with Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.60 guide

Iron Jetpacks adds jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE), so you will need an FE source before you can fly. The mod comes with a set of default jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials, and every jetpack stat is configurable. This pack's own jetpack stats are not covered by the sources I have, so check the tooltips in game.[1]

The first things to craft are the mod's basic components: the Leather Strap and the four coils. Here are their in-pack recipes, starting with the strap.[3]

The coils

There are four coils in the pack: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. Each has its own crafting recipe, shown below. You can make whichever coil you have the materials for.[3]

Once you have a jetpack

Jetpacks have throttle controls so you can adjust your aerial speed on the fly. A built-in HUD shows your energy, engine, hover and throttle stats. You can also equip a jetpack as a Curio.[1]

Jetpack tooltips list these stats: Horizontal Speed, Vertical Acceleration, Hover Ascend Speed, Hover Descend Speed, Sprint Fuel Modifier and Sprint Vertical Multiplier. Compare them to see which jetpack suits you.[4]

Unverified The sources I have do not show how the strap and coils are used in jetpack recipes, which jetpacks exist in this pack, or how to craft energy storage or charge a jetpack. No quests in this pack involve the mod, and I could not confirm an exact progression order beyond the recipes above.

How does Iron Jetpacks work?

5 parts

Iron Jetpacks is a Forge Energy (FE) based jetpack mod. The sources I have describe everything in terms of the jetpack itself: how much energy it stores, how hard it drains that energy, and how fast it flies. They don't describe any machines or multiblocks. The mod also has a built-in HUD for energy, engine, hover and throttle stats, and throttle controls let you change your aerial speed on the fly.[1]

Power: capacity and usage

Every jetpack is defined by its own JSON file in the pack's jetpack config folder. Two settings matter most for power: capacity (how much energy it holds) and usage (how hard it drains that energy). Each jetpack file also has a tier number. Here are the values this pack uses:[1][5]

  • Copper: tier 1, capacity 250,000, usage 85.[6]
  • Iron: tier 2, capacity 800,000, usage 120. Bronze has exactly the same capacity, usage and tier.[5][7]
  • Gold: tier 3, capacity 10,000,000, usage 300.[8]
  • Electrum: tier 3, capacity 10,000,000, usage 310.[9]
  • Invar: tier 3, capacity 12,000,000, usage 350.[10]
  • Diamond: tier 4, capacity 30,000,000, usage 650.[11]
  • Emerald: tier 5, capacity 48,000,000, usage 880.[12]
  • Platinum: capacity 36,000,000. The sources only show part of its file, so I can't give you its other power values.[13]

Higher tiers hold far more energy, and their usage values are higher too. Iron stores 800,000 with a usage of 120, while diamond stores 30,000,000 with a usage of 650. The bigger batteries grow much faster than the usage does.[5][11]

Tip: The Creative jetpack is flagged as creative and has no crafting material. Its capacity is 0, its usage is 0 and its sprint fuel multiplier is 0.[14]

Flight handling

Each jetpack file sets a full set of movement values: vertical speed and acceleration, sideways speed, hover speed, and separate hover ascend and descend speeds. Diamond, for example, has a vertical speed of 0.9, a sideways speed of 0.19 and a vertical acceleration of 0.15, while copper has 0.29, 0.1 and 0.11. Every jetpack file shown to me sets the hover descend speed to 0.25.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][14]

Sprinting gets its own multipliers: one for fuel use, one for speed and one for vertical speed. Copper is the gentlest at 1.4 fuel, 1.05 speed and 1.025 vertical. Diamond is 3.8, 1.8 and 1.4. Emerald is 4, 2 and 1.5. Sprinting costs noticeably more energy, so don't hold it down all the time on a small battery.[6][11][12]

With General.advancedTooltips turned on, which it is in this pack, jetpack tooltips show stat lines such as Horizontal Speed, Hover Ascend Speed, Hover Descend Speed, Sprint Fuel Modifier, Sprint Vertical Multiplier and Vertical Acceleration. Use them to compare jetpacks without opening the config.[4][15]

Armor and enchanting

Jetpacks also carry armor-style stats: armor points, toughness, knockback resistance and enchantability. Iron has 3 armor points, diamond and emerald have 4, and copper has 2. Even so, General.enchantableJetpacks is set to false in this pack, so jetpacks are not enchantable here.[5][6][11][12][16]

Equipping: Curios and the HUD

The mod supports equipping a jetpack as a Curio. In this pack General.curiosIntegration is true, and the jetpack files shown, including iron and diamond, also have their curios option set to true.[1][5][11][16]

The HUD is on by default. HUD.position is set to 1, which is Middle Left. The presets run from 0 (Top Left) to 5 (Bottom Right). You can nudge it with HUD.offsetX and HUD.offsetY, both 0 here. HUD.showOverChat is false, so the HUD won't draw over chat. Particles and sounds are enabled through General.jetpackParticles and General.jetpackSounds.[15]

Crafting components

The pack's recipe dump shows these crafting components made by the mod: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil, Ultimate Coil and the Leather Strap. Here are their exact in-pack recipes.[17]

The common config leaves the default recipes enabled for jetpacks, thrusters, capacitors and energy cells, through Recipe.jetpacks, Recipe.thrusters, Recipe.capacitors and Recipe.cells.[16]

Unverified The sources don't explain the exact units for capacity and usage (for example, whether usage is FE per tick), which coil belongs to which jetpack tier, or how the jetpack, thruster, capacitor and cell recipes are laid out. The recipe dump I have only covers the coils and the strap. Check these in-game with the advanced tooltips and a recipe viewer before relying on them. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you progress through Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.60 guide

The recipe data for this pack shows Iron Jetpacks parts in four coil tiers, plus a strap. Everything below comes from the in-pack recipes, so you can follow it without guessing.[3]

Unverified No pack quests involving Iron Jetpacks were found, and the mod isn't on the ATM Star quest path. Nothing here is gated by a quest, so you can start whenever you like. The jetpack recipes and their stats (fuel use, speed, energy capacity) were not in the data I had, so I can't confirm them.

The coil ladder

The coils come in four tiers: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. Each one is a shaped crafting recipe. All four use redstone dust and a wooden rod, and the third ingredient is what changes from tier to tier.[3]

The recipes accept any item in the matching tag, so a ladder like this is easy to build from whichever mod's materials you already have.[3]

Leather Strap

The Leather Strap is a separate shaped recipe, so it doesn't depend on any coil tier.[3]

Tip: Before you commit materials to a higher coil, check the recipe blocks above, since the pack's recipes are what count here, not any mod default you may remember.[3]

How does Iron Jetpacks work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.60 guide

I'd love to show you a list of recipes and quests where Iron Jetpacks teams up with other mods, but I can't confirm any for this pack. No in-pack recipes combine Iron Jetpacks items with items from another mod, and no quests involve the mod. So this section stays short and sticks to what the mod itself says about compatibility.[1]

Energy: Forge Energy

The mod's project page says jetpacks are powered by Forge Energy (FE), chosen for broad mod compatibility. Any other mod that handles FE is therefore a natural fit for charging your jetpacks. The sources don't say which charging blocks or machines the pack provides, so check in-game before you plan a setup around one.[1]

Curios support

The project page also lists Curios support, which lets you equip a jetpack as a Curio instead of in the chest slot. Whether the Curios slot is available in this pack is not confirmed by the sources I have.[1]

Modded materials

The project page says the default jetpacks are made from a mix of vanilla and modded materials. It also says every jetpack's stats and attributes are configurable, and you can add your own. It doesn't name those materials, and I can't tell you which ones the pack uses or whether the pack changed any of them.[1]

Unverified Specific cross-mod recipes, quests that use Iron Jetpacks items together with another mod's items, and the pack's own jetpack material list could not be confirmed from the available sources.

Which Iron Jetpacks config options matter?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks is configured in three places in this pack: a common file for gameplay switches, a client file for HUD and effects, and one JSON file per jetpack tier. Everything below is how the pack sets it.[5][15][16]

Common settings

Client settings

Tooltips, particles and sounds are all on: General.advancedTooltips, General.jetpackParticles and General.jetpackSounds are all true. If the effects bother you, those are the switches to flip.[15]

The HUD is enabled with HUD.enable. HUD.position is 1, which is Middle Left on the preset scale (0 is Top Left, 2 Bottom Left, 3 Top Right, 4 Middle Right, 5 Bottom Right). Both HUD.offsetX and HUD.offsetY are 0, and HUD.showOverChat is false, so the HUD does not draw over the chat.[15]

Jetpack tiers

Each tier has its own JSON file with capacity, usage and speed values. Here is each tier's capacity, usage and vertical speed as the pack sets them, from weakest to strongest.[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][13][18][19][20][21]

Sprinting scales both fuel and speed. On iron, sprintFuelMulti is 2.1 and sprintSpeedMulti is 1.1. On emerald they are 4 and 2, so sprinting costs much more fuel for a bigger speed boost.[5][12]

Tip: Invar and steel have the same capacity and usage, but steel has the higher vertical speed (0.67 against 0.61). Bronze matches iron on every stat shown above.[5][7][10][21]

What changed in Iron Jetpacks between versions?

All the Mods 10 0.51 ships Iron Jetpacks 8.0.3 for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 0.37 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs.[2]

  • 8.0.3: Fixed jetpacks breaking when taking physical damage.[22]
  • 8.0.2: Fixed jetpack upgrade recipes not actually upgrading the jetpack tier.[23]
  • 8.0.0: Updated to 1.21.1, and changed the Jetpack to a "back" Curio.[24]

Since 0.51 includes 8.0.3, the changes listed above are all part of the version you're playing.[2][22][23][24]
