What is Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Iron Jetpacks adds fully customizable jetpacks that run on Forge Energy (FE). The mod ships with a set of default jetpacks made from vanilla and modded materials, and because they use FE, they work with a lot of other mods' chargers. The pack includes version 8.0.11.[1][2]

It's for anyone who wants to get around faster and have fun doing it. You get a built-in HUD showing your energy, engine, hover and throttle stats, plus throttle controls so you can change your flying speed on the fly.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The quest "Iron Jetpacks" quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter is where you start. You begin with a Wood Jetpack, and it can be upgraded all the way to a Creative Jetpack. There are many versions, but they all work the same way.[3]

You can wear a Jetpack in your chestplate slot, as a Back Curio, or as a Curio Curio. Any item charger can fill it with FE. If you run out of energy, you drop.[1][3]

Flying

  • Turn on your engine with V, then hold Space to fly up. You drop when you let go.[3]
  • Hover has no default key. When it's on, you stay at the same altitude, go higher with Space and lower with Shift.[3]
  • Throttle sets how fast you fly. By default, comma decreases it and period increases it.[3]

The late-game goal

The quest "Creative Jetpack" quest sits in Chapter 4: Creative and comes after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. Its text pitches the Creative Jetpack as the fix for running out of energy, and warns you may need to craft the earlier jetpacks as ATM Star versions, plus more expensive items. Iron Jetpacks itself isn't part of the ATM Star path.[4]

Unverified The sources don't list the jetpack tiers between the Wood and Creative Jetpack, or whether the pack changed any default jetpack stats.

How do you get started with Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Jetpacks are a beloved way of getting around, and the path starts small. Your very first goal is a Wood Jetpack, which you can upgrade all the way up to the Creative Jetpack. There are many versions, but they all work the same way, so once you learn the first one you know them all. The "Iron Jetpacks" quest quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter walks you through the basics.[5]

Your first crafts

The mod adds a few simple crafting items you can make early. The Leather Strap and the Basic Coil use the mod's own recipes in this pack, not pack-modified ones.[6]

Unverified The provided sources don't include the Wood Jetpack recipe or the recipes for the other material jetpacks. They also don't say which strap or coil goes into which jetpack tier. Check your recipe viewer in-game for the exact path. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Before you take off

  1. Charge it up. Every jetpack runs on Forge Energy (FE), and you can use any item charger to fill it.[1][5]
  2. Equip it in your chestplate slot, or in a Back or Curio slot, since the mod supports Curios.[1][5]
  3. Turn on the engine with V, then hold Space to fly up. Let go and you'll drop.[5]
  4. Adjust your speed with the throttle. By default, comma lowers it and period raises it.[1][5]
Watch out: Keep an eye on your energy! The jetpack uses FE while you fly, and if it runs out you will drop. The built-in HUD shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle stats, so glance at it often.[1][5]
Tip: Not a fan of dropping every time you let go of Space? Turn on Hover. It has no key bound by default, so assign one in your controls first. While Hover is on you stay at the same altitude, rise with Space and descend with Shift.[5]

The long-term goal: the Creative Jetpack

At the very top of the ladder sits the Creative Jetpack, which means far less charging. It's a true endgame project. Its quest, "Creative Jetpack" quest, comes after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. Expect to need every jetpack before it, an ATM Star, and plenty of other expensive items.[7]

The pack adds its own recipes for the Creative Jetpack and its creative parts: the Capacitor, the Cell and the Thruster. Use the pack's recipes below when you're ready.[6]

How does Iron Jetpacks work?

7 parts

Iron Jetpacks has no machines or multiblocks. Everything revolves around the jetpack itself. Each jetpack runs on Forge Energy (FE), so it works with the wide range of mods that use FE. Every stat a jetpack has comes from a config file, one file per jetpack type. That means the numbers below are the values All the Mods 10 5.0 actually ships with, not generic mod values.[1][8]

Flying: energy, throttle and the HUD

Your jetpack stores FE and burns it while you fly. Each tier has two key power numbers: how much it holds, set by capacity, and how fast it drains, set by usage. For example, the Iron Jetpack holds 120,000 with a usage of 120, while the Allthemodium Jetpack holds 60,000,000 with a usage of 1,600.[1][8][9]

You don't just fly at full blast. The mod has throttle controls, so you can change your aerial movement speed mid-flight. A built-in HUD shows your current energy, engine, hover and throttle status, so you always know how much juice you have left.[1]

What the stats mean

Hover over a jetpack and its tooltip lists its flight stats. Each one lines up with a key in that jetpack's config file:[9][10]

Jetpack tiers in this pack

Every jetpack file has a tier value. In this pack, the tiers run from 1 (Copper) up to 6 (Allthemodium), and the creative jetpack uses -1. Here's how the key numbers compare:[8][11][12]

  • Copper (tier 1): capacity 75,000, usage 80, vertical speed 0.16, sideways speed 0.07, 2 armor points.[11]
  • Iron (tier 2): capacity 120,000, usage 120, vertical speed 0.2, sideways speed 0.1, 3 armor points.[9]
  • Bronze (tier 2): same capacity, usage and vertical speed as Iron. Its sideways speed is a bit higher at 0.12, and its sprint fuel multiplier is 2.1 instead of 2.[9][13]
  • Silver: capacity 120,000, vertical acceleration 0.12 and 3 armor points. The rest of its stats aren't shown in the available pack data.[14]
  • Gold (tier 3): capacity 400,000, usage 300, vertical speed 0.3, sideways speed 0.14, 2 armor points, enchantability 25.[15]
  • Invar (tier 3): flies exactly like Gold, but has 3 armor points and enchantability 15.[15][16]
  • Electrum (tier 3): capacity 500,000, usage 310, vertical speed 0.31, sideways speed 0.14, enchantability 18.[17]
  • Diamond (tier 4): capacity 5,000,000, usage 600, vertical speed 0.35, sideways speed 0.16, 4 armor points.[18]
  • Platinum (tier 4): capacity 7,000,000, usage 700, vertical speed 0.36, sideways speed 0.16, 4 armor points.[19]
  • Emerald (tier 5): capacity 12,500,000, usage 900, vertical speed 0.4, sideways speed 0.17, 4 armor points.[20]
  • Allthemodium (tier 6): capacity 60,000,000, usage 1,600, vertical speed 0.45, sideways speed 0.18, 9 armor points, enchantability 25.[8]
  • Creative (tier -1): flagged as creative, with capacity and usage both set to 0, vertical speed 0.6, sideways speed 0.25 and 8 armor points.[12]
Tip: Gold and Invar share the same capacity, usage and flight speeds. So pick whichever metal you have more of, unless you care about the extra armor point on Invar or the higher enchantability on Gold.[15][16]

Sprinting and hovering

Sprinting while flying gets you there faster, but it costs more energy. On Copper the multipliers are small: 1.05 for sprint speed, 1.025 for sprint vertical speed and 1.2 for fuel. On Allthemodium they climb to 1.5 for speed and 1.4 for vertical speed, but the fuel multiplier jumps to 4.5. High-tier sprinting is fast, but it drains your tank quickly.[8][10][11]

Hovering gets better as you move up the tiers too. Copper hovers upward at 0.21 and downward at 0.25, while Allthemodium goes up to 0.45 and 0.35. The base hover value drops the higher you go, from 0.1 on Copper to 0.0025 on Allthemodium.[8][11]

Wearing your jetpack

Iron Jetpacks supports Curios, and every jetpack in this pack has curios turned on. That means you can equip your jetpack in a Curios slot instead of your chest slot. Jetpacks also give armor points, from 2 on Copper up to 9 on Allthemodium.[1][8][9][11]

Crafting components

Jetpacks are built from parts: coils, a Leather Strap, plus tier-specific Thruster, Capacitor and Cell items. The four coils are crafted like this:[6]

Customizing jetpacks

Every jetpack stat is configurable, and you can even add your own jetpack types. Each file also has a disable switch and a craftingMaterial tag, which sets the material that tier is made from.[1][9]

Unverified The sources don't say which coil goes into which jetpack tier, what time unit the usage value uses, exactly what the base hover value controls, or which chargers work best for refilling a jetpack. Check the recipe viewer in-game to confirm these. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you progress through Iron Jetpacks?

3 parts

Jetpacks in this pack follow a simple ladder: you start with a Wood Jetpack and upgrade it step by step all the way to a Creative Jetpack. There are lots of versions, but they all work the same way, so the controls you learn on your first jetpack carry over to every tier after it.[5]

Every tier runs on FE, and you can charge it in any Item Charger. You can wear it in your Chestplate slot or in a Curio slot, including the Back Curio slot.[5]

Watch out: Jetpacks burn FE while you fly, and if you run out of energy you will drop. Keep an eye on your charge, especially on the early tiers.[5]

Getting started

Your first stop is the "Iron Jetpacks" quest quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter. It asks you to make a jetpack, and it points you at the Wood Jetpack as the starting point.[5]

Once you're wearing one, turn on the engine with V, then hold Space to fly up; let go and you'll drop. If you'd rather stay at the same height, turn on Hover, which has no key bound by default. With Hover on, Space takes you higher and Shift takes you lower. You can also change your Throttle to adjust how fast you fly: the comma key lowers it and the period key raises it by default.[5]

Crafting components

The mod has four tiers of coils: Basic Coil, Advanced Coil, Elite Coil and Ultimate Coil. It also has a Leather Strap. This pack uses the mod's own recipes for all of these, shown below.[6]

Unverified The full list of jetpack tiers between Wood and Creative, which coil each tier uses, and the recipes for the standard jetpacks, thrusters, capacitors and energy cells aren't covered by the available sources. The Creative Jetpack

The top of the ladder is the Creative Jetpack, tracked by the "Creative Jetpack" quest quest in Chapter 4: Creative. That quest only opens after Fully Automated ATM Star, so this is truly late-game gear. The quest warns that you might need to make every jetpack before it, plus some expensive items.[7]

This pack adds its own recipes for the Creative Jetpack and its creative parts: the Thruster, Capacitor and Cell. These are pack recipes, not mod defaults, so check the exact recipes below instead of any older guides.[6]

How does Iron Jetpacks work with other mods?

2 parts

Iron Jetpacks ties into the rest of the pack mostly at the very top end. The pack adds its own crafting recipes for the creative tier of the jetpack and its parts, and these recipes pull in endgame materials from several other big mods. That makes the Creative Jetpack a real late-game goal instead of a standalone upgrade.[6]

Creative tier crafting

There are four pack-added recipes that link Iron Jetpacks to other mods. They cover the Capacitor, Cell, Thruster and the Jetpack itself. Each one uses heavy-hitting items from Allthemodium, Mekanism, Powah, Iron Furnaces, All the Tweaks or Mystical Agradditions, so you'll want those mods well into their endgame before you start.[6]

Creative Jetpack

The quest "Creative Jetpack" quest sits in the Creative chapter and unlocks after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest. Its description warns that you might need to make every jetpack before it, an ATM Star, plus more expensive items. The payoff is that you wear it and use it as normal, just with less charging.[7]

Tip: The ATM Star is a big project on its own, so if a Creative Jetpack is on your list, get your ATM Star production going early.[7]

Unverified The quest text suggests you'll never run out of energy with the Creative Jetpack, but it also says "less charging", so whether it truly needs no power at all is not confirmed.

Power and equipment slots

Every jetpack runs on Forge Energy (FE), which is what lets it work with the pack's many power mods. You can top it up with any item charger, and it burns FE while you fly. If the tank hits empty mid-air, you drop, so keep an eye on your charge.[1][5]

Thanks to Curios support, you don't have to give up your chestplate to fly. You can put a jetpack in your chestplate slot, the Back curio slot or the Curio curio slot.[1][5]

If you're just getting started, the "Iron Jetpacks" quest quest in the Tips and Tricks chapter walks you through the basics. You begin with a Wood Jetpack and can upgrade it all the way to a Creative Jetpack.[5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Iron Jetpacks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Iron Jetpacks shows up in two places in the quest book. One quest is a how-to guide, and the other is a late-game reward. Both ask you to obtain a Jetpack.[3][4]

Tips and Tricks: Iron Jetpacks

The first one is "Iron Jetpacks" quest, in the Tips and Tricks chapter. It has no prerequisite listed, so you can pick it up whenever you like. Its task is to get a jetpack. The quest text tells you to start with a Wood Jetpack, which can be upgraded all the way to a Creative Jetpack.[3]

The quest also covers the basics of using one. Every tier works the same way. You can wear it in the Chestplate slot or in a Back Curio slot. It runs on FE, and any item charger can charge it. If you run out of energy, you drop.[3]

  • Engine: turn it on with V, then hold Space to fly up. You drop when you let go.[3]
  • Hover: it has no default key. When it is on, you stay at the same altitude. Space takes you higher and Shift takes you lower.[3]
  • Throttle: this sets how fast you fly. By default, comma lowers it and period raises it.[3]

Chapter 4: Creative

The second one is "Creative Jetpack" quest in Chapter 4: Creative. It unlocks after the Fully Automated ATM Star quest, so it is a late-game goal. Its task is again a jetpack.[4]

The quest text says this jetpack means you no longer need to worry about running out of energy. You put it on and use it as normal, just with less charging. It also warns that you may need every jetpack before it, an ATM Star, and other more expensive items to build it.[4]

Tip: Do the Iron Jetpacks quest early. It explains the controls, and the Engine, Hover and Throttle keys are worth learning before you start upgrading tiers.[3]

Which Iron Jetpacks config options matter?

3 parts

Iron Jetpacks is built to be tweaked, and every jetpack stat can be changed in its config. In this pack each jetpack has its own file. Those files decide how much energy a pack holds, how fast it burns through it, how quickly you fly and how much armor it gives you. These are the values that matter most in your day-to-day flying.[1][9]

Unverified The sources only show the values this pack uses, not the mod's built-in defaults, so it is not confirmed which of these numbers the pack changed from default.

Energy: capacity and usage

The two numbers you'll feel first are capacity, which is how much energy the jetpack stores, and usage, which is how fast it drains while you fly. The Iron Jetpack, for example, is tier 2 with a capacity of 120,000 and a usage of 120. Here is how every jetpack in this pack compares.[1][9]

  • Wood (tier 0): capacity 20,000, usage 32.[21]
  • Stone (tier 1): capacity 50,000, usage 64.[22]
  • Copper (tier 1): capacity 75,000, usage 80.[11]
  • Iron, Bronze and Silver (tier 2): capacity 120,000, usage 120.[9][13][14]
  • Gold and Invar (tier 3): capacity 400,000, usage 300.[15][16]
  • Electrum and Steel (tier 3): capacity 500,000, usage 310.[17][23]
  • Diamond (tier 4): capacity 5,000,000, usage 600.[18]
  • Platinum (tier 4): capacity 7,000,000, usage 700.[19]
  • Emerald (tier 5): capacity 12,500,000, usage 900.[20]
  • Allthemodium (tier 6): capacity 60,000,000, usage 1,600.[8]
  • Vibranium (tier 7): capacity 120,000,000, usage 2,700.[24]
  • Unobtainium (tier 8): capacity 180,000,000, usage 4,000.[25]
  • Creative: flagged as creative, with capacity and usage both set to 0.[12]

Speed and sprinting

Flight speed comes from speedVertical for climbing and speedSideways for moving horizontally. The gap between tiers is big. The Wood Jetpack sits at 0.15 vertical and 0.05 sideways, while the Unobtainium Jetpack reaches 0.55 vertical and 0.21 sideways.[21][25]

Watch out: Sprinting boosts your speed, but it also multiplies your fuel use through sprintFuelMulti. On the Unobtainium Jetpack the sprint speed multiplier is 1.7 and the fuel multiplier is 5.5, so sprint-flying costs a lot more energy than it gains in speed. The Wood and Stone Jetpacks have both multipliers at 1, so sprinting doesn't change anything on them.[21][22][25]

Armor and Curios

Jetpacks also count as chest armor through armorPoints. The Wood Jetpack gives just 1 point. Allthemodium gives 9, Vibranium 12 and Unobtainium 15, and all three have an enchantability of 25. Toughness and knockback resistance are left at 0 on all of these.[8][21][24][25]

The mod lets you equip a jetpack as a Curio, and this pack has curios turned on for every jetpack. None of them are switched off with disable, so every tier is available to you.[1][9]

What changed in Iron Jetpacks between versions?

Iron Jetpacks has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 2.3 or earlier. All the Mods 10 5.0 ships version 8.0.11 (the 1.21.1 build).[26]

Here are the updates the pack changelogs record, oldest first:[27][28][29][30][31]

  • All the Mods 10 2.36: updated from 8.0.6 to 8.0.7.[27]
  • All the Mods 10 2.47: updated from 8.0.7 to 8.0.8.[28]
  • All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 8.0.8 to 8.0.9.[29]
  • All the Mods 10 4.6: updated from 8.0.9 to 8.0.10.[30]
  • All the Mods 10 4.13: updated from 8.0.10 to 8.0.11, the version still in 5.0.[26][31]

Unverified The pack changelogs only record these version bumps. What changed inside each Iron Jetpacks release (new features, balance changes or bug fixes) isn't covered by the sources, so it is unverified. I also can't say whether the pack changed any jetpack values or recipes along the way.
