What is Immersive Engineering?
1 part
Immersive Engineering is a tech mod built around realism-inspired technology with a retro-futuristic look. You won't find glowing tubes or magic boxes that spit out dusts. Power travels along actual hanging cables strung between connectors, and many machines are big multiblocks you build out in the world.[1]
A good example is the crusher, a 5x3x3 multiblock with rotating wheels that throws out particles as it breaks your ore. Late in the mod you can build the Excavator, a massive 3x7x8 multiblock that digs ores out of the ground with a huge rotating bucketwheel.[1]
If you like tech that looks and feels like real machinery, this mod is for you. It uses the Forge Energy API, so it works with the other tech mods in this pack, but it can also be played fully standalone. It generates power with waterwheels, windmills, biodiesel and more.[1]
Where it fits in this pack
In the pack's Star quest chapter, one quest asks for an Engineer's Hammer. The next quest asks for a Tesla Coil, so plan to take the mod at least that far along this path.[2]
- Quest a quest in "?" asks for the Engineer's Hammer.[2]
- Quest a quest in "?" follows it and asks for the Tesla Coil.[2]
- In the tips and tricks chapter, quest a quest in "?" accepts one of several workstations from different mods. The Immersive Engineering options are the Engineer's Crafting Table, Engineer's Workbench, Engineer's Circuit Workbench or Turntable.[3]
- In the XyCraft chapter, quest a quest in "?" lets you use the Fluid Pipe as one of the accepted fluid pipes.[4]
How do you get started with Immersive Engineering?
6 parts
Immersive Engineering is a realism-inspired tech mod. You build big multiblock machines, generate power with things like waterwheels and windmills, and move that power through cables strung between connectors instead of lines of blocks.[1]
Before anything else, get yourself the Engineer's Manual. It's the mod's in-game documentation and the best place to look up how each machine works. There's even an advancement just for acquiring it.[1][5]
Step 1: The Engineer's Hammer
Your first real craft should be the Engineer's Hammer. It's the Immersive Engineering item this pack's quest line asks for first, in a quest in "?". Crafting it also earns you one of the mod's own advancements.[2][5]

Unverified The hammer is generally used to form multiblock structures and to configure Immersive Engineering blocks, but the provided sources don't confirm what it does in this pack.
Step 2: Treated Wood
Several of the early crafting stations in this pack are built with treated wood parts, so Treated Wood is a real milestone. The mod has an advancement just for crafting it.[5][6]
Unverified Treated Wood is usually made by soaking planks in Creosote Oil, and the mod has an advancement for collecting a bucket of Creosote Oil. How you produce either one in this pack isn't covered by the provided sources.
Step 3: The Engineer's Crafting Table
Next, make an Engineer's Crafting Table. It's a stepping stone: in this pack it goes into the recipes for both the Engineer's Workbench and the Engineer's Circuit Workbench. It also counts toward a quest in "?" in the tips and tricks chapter.[3][6]

Step 4: The Engineer's Workbench
Now upgrade to the Engineer's Workbench. The mod describes it as the place where you modify your tools, and crafting it is another of the mod's advancements. It is also accepted by a quest in "?", so either this or the crafting table completes that quest.[3][5]

Working toward steel
Steel is one of the big early milestones. The mod has advancements for forming the Crude Blast Furnace and for creating a Steel Ingot, so keep those in mind as your next goals.[5]
Unverified Kiln Bricks are usually used to build the Alloy Kiln and Blast Bricks to build the Crude Blast Furnace, but the provided sources don't confirm which structures use these bricks in this pack.

Your long-term goal
In the pack's quest line, the hammer quest leads straight into a quest in "?", which asks for a Tesla Coil. Don't rush it. Its recipe uses advanced parts such as the HV Accumulator and the Advanced Electronic Component, so treat it as something to work toward as your setup grows.[2][6]

How does Immersive Engineering work?
8 parts
Immersive Engineering is all about realism-inspired, retro-futuristic tech. Machines look and behave like real industrial equipment, and many of them are big multiblock structures. For example, ore processing happens in a crusher with rotating wheels, not a single magic block. The mod is designed to be more balanced and nicer to look at than typical tech mods.[1]
The mod's own in-game documentation is the Engineer's Manual, and it's your best reference for anything this page doesn't cover. This pack sets manualGuiScale to 4. If the text is hard to read, you can turn on badEyesight, which switches the manual to bold, darker text.[1][7]
Power: wires, not pipes
Immersive Engineering doesn't move power through lines of cable blocks. Instead, you string wires between connectors, like real hanging powerlines. It uses the Forge Energy API, so it works with other tech mods, but you can also play it fully standalone.[1]
Energy is measured in Flux. Blocks can report how much energy is stored and the average energy transferred per tick over recent ticks. Wires can report the average loss between points, so long or badly planned lines will cost you some power.[5][8]
Generating power
Your power options include waterwheels, windmills and biodiesel, among others. Waterwheels and windmills feed a Kinetic Dynamo. In this pack, machines.dynamo_output is set to 3. That value is an output modifier, and it gets multiplied by the rotation modifier of whichever water- or windmill is attached.[1][5][8]
For serious power, you'll want the Diesel Generator multiblock. In this pack it outputs 4,096 Flux per tick through machines.dieselGen_output. The burn time of the fuel decides how much total energy each bit of fuel gives you.[1][5][8]
Storing power: capacitors
Capacitors come in three tiers. Here are their values in this pack:[8]
- LV capacitor: stores 100,000 Flux, with 256 Flux per tick input and output.[8]
- MV capacitor: stores 1,000,000 Flux, with 1,024 Flux per tick input and output.[8]
- HV capacitor: stores 4,000,000 Flux, with 4,096 Flux per tick input and output.[8]
Multiblock machines
Many of the mod's machines are multiblocks. The crusher is a 5x3x3 structure that throws out particles as it breaks your ore. The Excavator is a massive, resource-hungry 3x7x8 structure that digs ores out of the ground with a big rotating bucketwheel.[1]
The mod's advancements point to several other multiblocks you'll form along the way. These include the Crude Blast Furnace, the Improved Blast Furnace, the Metal Press, the Arc Furnace and the Diesel Generator. Other machines in the mod include the Fermenter, Sawmill, Bottling Machine, Refinery, Assembler, Automatic Workbench and Blast Furnace Preheaters.[5][9]
Unverified The Engineer's Hammer is probably the tool you use to form multiblocks from their placed blocks, but the provided sources don't confirm how forming works.
Machine speeds and costs in this pack
The Arc Furnace, Automatic Workbench, Bottling Machine and Crusher each have an energy modifier and a time modifier. This pack sets all of them to 1, so recipes use their normal energy cost and duration.[8]
- Arc Furnace electrodes: Graphite Electrodes take 1 damage per tick while the furnace works. machines.arc_furnace.electrodeDamage is 96,000, the default, so a set lasts 8 consecutive in-game days of nonstop work.[8]
- Arc Furnace recycling isn't a config option anymore. Like all Immersive Engineering recipes, it's controlled through a datapack.[8]
- The Assembler uses 80 Flux for each item it crafts from a recipe.[8]
- The Charging Station can push 256 Flux per tick into an item.[8]
Fluids
You can set the Bottling Machine to hold containers until they're full, or to allow partial filling. Fluid containers in this mod can't hold gases, and the game tells you so if you try.[5]
Pumps can replace the fluid blocks they drain with cobblestone, and you can toggle this. If you turn it off, the mod warns that it can cause lag and isn't advisable with large amounts of fluid, so leave it on for big lakes.[5]
In this pack, fluidFractions is on. The manual shows fluid amounts in recipes as fractions of a bucket instead of decimals.[7]
Moving items and automation
For item logistics, the mod gives you Conveyor Belts, including Dropping and Extracting variants. You also get the Item Batcher, the Item Router and Sheetmetal Chutes in every dye colour. Yes, you can bounce around in the chutes.[5]
Storage crates can be sealed so you can pick them up with their contents inside, and the mod also has a Reinforced Storage Crate. Some blocks can be locked to their owner, and then only that player can access them.[5]
Redstone control is flexible. Machines that support it can have their redstone control inverted, and you can switch between reacting to strong or normal redstone signals. That makes it easy to wire machines into your automation.[5]
Finding ore veins
The Core Sample Drill works out which mineral vein sits in a chunk. In this pack it uses 40 Flux per tick and takes 200 ticks per sample. The finished sample tells you which vein it found, or that there are no minerals, and it also shows how much of the vein's integrity is left.[5][8]
You can buy a Mineral Deposit Map from the Structural Engineer villager. Core samples can be matched to a map, but only if the sample is in the same dimension and inside the map's borders.[5]
There's also a surveying mechanic that gives you hints as you move around. It goes from traces of a mineral, to the direction of a vein, to roughly how many steps away it is, and finally to a vein right where you're standing.[5]
Unverified The sources don't confirm which tool gives these survey hints, or how mineral veins connect to the Excavator.
How do you progress through Immersive Engineering?
5 parts
Immersive Engineering has a light footprint in this pack's questbook. You get a short two-quest chain in one of the main chapters, plus a couple of quests in other chapters where IE items count toward the goal. That leaves you plenty of freedom in how you climb through the mod.[2][3][4]
The quest path
Your first IE quest is a quest in "?", which asks for the Engineer's Hammer. It's your key tool for the mod, so it makes sense that it kicks things off.[2]

Finishing the hammer quest unlocks a quest in "?", which asks for a Tesla Coil. No quests sit between the two, so the questbook doesn't walk you through the middle of the mod. You'll need to work your way up to the Tesla Coil on your own.[2]

How does Immersive Engineering work with other mods?
4 parts
Immersive Engineering is a tech mod that can be played fully standalone, but in this pack it's tied into a lot of other mods. Most of these links come from the pack's shared metal items, and a few big crafts and quests pull IE gear into other progression lines.[1][6]
Shared metals: plates, blocks and nuggets
This pack has changed IE's Engineer's Hammer plate recipes so they give you the alltheores plates instead of IE's own. That covers Aluminum Plate, Constantan Plate, Copper Plate, Electrum Plate, Gold Plate, Iron Plate, Lead Plate, Nickel Plate, Silver Plate, Steel Plate and Uranium Plate. The ingot input uses the common ingot tags, so any matching ingot works.[6]

The other metals follow the same pattern.
The same goes for IE's storage slabs. Turning slabs like the Steel Slab or Aluminium Slab back into full blocks gives you alltheores blocks such as Steel Block and Aluminum Block. This works for aluminum, constantan, electrum, lead, nickel, silver, steel and uranium.[6]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: immersiveengineering:crafting/storage_steel_from_slab
Recycling old gear feeds into the same system. If you smelt or blast IE's steel tools, sword and steel armor, you get Steel Nugget. Faraday armor pieces like the Faraday Chestplate give you Aluminum Nugget instead. The pack changed these recipes, so everything you melt down stacks with your other metals.[6]
The Tesla Coil and the Nexium Emitter
The Tesla Coil is one of the parts in the Nexium Emitter, a recipe the pack adds. It also needs top-tier parts from several other tech mods, like the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader and the Large Advanced Motor. In the same quest chapter, quest a quest in "?" asks for the Engineer's Hammer, and quest a quest in "?" follows it and asks for the Tesla Coil.[2][6]

Other ways to get HOP Graphite
You don't have to rely only on IE's machines for HOP Graphite. Mystical Agriculture lets you craft Hop Graphite Essence into HOP Graphite Ingot. A Productive Bees centrifuge recipe gives you HOP Graphite Dust along with Wax.[6]

IE blocks in other quest lines
- Quest a quest in "?" in the tips and tricks chapter accepts any one of a long list of blocks from many mods. IE's Engineer's Crafting Table, Engineer's Workbench, Engineer's Circuit Workbench and Turntable all count.[3]
- Quest a quest in "?" in the XyCraft chapter asks for a hydro pump plus a fluid pipe. The IE Fluid Pipe is one of the pipes that counts, so you can finish it with IE pipes you already have.[4]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Immersive Engineering?
3 parts
Immersive Engineering appears in three quest chapters in this pack. Only one of them asks for its gear in a set order. In the other two, an Immersive Engineering item is one of several accepted answers, so you can use it or skip it.[2][3][4]
chapter_2_the_star
This is the chapter where Immersive Engineering items are actually required. It has two quests, and you do them one after the other.[2]
- First, a quest in "?" asks you to get an Engineer's Hammer.[2]
- Next, a quest in "?" asks for a Tesla Coil. It unlocks only after you complete the hammer quest.[2]
tips_and_tricks
In this chapter, a quest in "?" accepts any one item from a long list spread across many mods. The Immersive Engineering options are the Engineer's Crafting Table, the Engineer's Workbench, the Engineer's Circuit Workbench and the Turntable. If you already have one of these, it counts. This quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[3]
xycraft
The XyCraft chapter has a quest in "?", which asks for two things: an Hydro Pump and a fluid pipe. Several pipes from different mods are accepted for the second task, and the Fluid Pipe is one of them. If you're already running Immersive Engineering pipes, you can use those. This quest also unlocks after an earlier quest in its chapter.[4]
Unverified The quests list no titles or descriptions, and the order in which you reach these three chapters could not be confirmed.
Which Immersive Engineering config options matter?
5 parts
Immersive Engineering has a lot of config options. Most of them are energy costs and recipe speed modifiers you'll never need to touch. The ones below actually change how you play, and each one shows the exact value this pack uses.[7][8]
Ore generation is switched off
This is the big one. In this pack, the maximum vein size is 0 for bauxite, lead, silver, nickel, deep nickel and uranium, and a vein size of 0 disables generation. Immersive Engineering doesn't place any of its own ores in your world, so check ores.bauxite.vein_size and its siblings if you're wondering why you've never seen IE ore. Excavator vein retrogen, ores.retrogen_excavator_veins, is also set to false.[8]
Unverified Where the pack expects you to get these metals instead, for example from other mods' ores, isn't confirmed by the available sources.
Wires and capacitors
Power travels through cables strung between connectors, not through lines of blocks. Longer runs lose energy: each wire type loses a percentage of received power every 16 blocks, and that loss compounds exponentially.[1][8]
- Copper wire moves 2,048 IF/t, loses 0.0125 per 16 blocks, spans up to 16 blocks, and its connectors accept 256 in and out.[8]
- Electrum wire moves 8,192 IF/t, loses 0.003 per 16 blocks, spans up to 16 blocks, and its connectors accept 1,024.[8]
- HV wire moves 32,768 IF/t, loses 0.0008 per 16 blocks, spans up to 32 blocks, and its connectors accept 4,096.[8]
- Capacitors store 100,000 Flux at LV (256 Flux/tick in and out), 1,000,000 at MV (1,024) and 4,000,000 at HV (4,096).[8]
Generators and the Excavator
The Diesel Generator outputs 4,096 Flux per tick, and a lightning rod strike gives 16,000,000 Flux. The kinetic dynamo's output modifier is 3, and the rotation modifier of the attached water- or windmill scales it further. The Thermoelectric Generator's output modifier is 1.[8]
The Excavator draws 4,096 Flux per tick. It can pull at most 38,400 yield from a chunk, and a new vein can start up to 0.2 depleted. If its particles tank your FPS, turn off machines.excavator.particles.[8]
Wear and tear
- Arc furnace electrodes can take 96,000 damage and lose 1 per working tick, which works out to 8 in-game days of nonstop use.[8]
- Sawmill blades take 5 damage per recipe.[8]
- The Engineer's Hammer has 100 durability and the Wirecutter has 250.[8]
- The Fluid Pump replaces the fluid blocks it picks up with cobblestone to reduce lag.[8]
- Floodlights and Powered Lanterns both prevent mob spawns.[8]
Client settings
increasedTileRenderdistance is set to 1.5 in this pack, where 1 would be normal render distance, so windmills stay visible farther away. The Engineer's Manual uses GUI scale 4 through manualGuiScale. If the manual's text is hard to read, turn on badEyesight for a bolder, darker font.[7]
What changed in Immersive Engineering between versions?
In All the Mods 10 2.29, the pack ships Immersive Engineering version 12.0.0-182, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been part of the pack since All the Mods 10 1.9 or earlier, so it's been around for a big chunk of the pack's life.[10]
Unverified A detailed list of what changed in Immersive Engineering between pack releases isn't available right now. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod and no mod changelogs on hand, so specific additions, fixes or balance tweaks across versions can't be confirmed here.
