What is Ars Elemental?

Ars Elemental is part of this pack at version 0.7.2.5. It was first included in version 1.9 or earlier, so it has been on the mod list for a long time. Ars Elemental adds elemental armor, and that armor is what the pack's quest book focuses on.[1][2]

In the quest book, the mod's quests sit in the "basic_armor" chapter. Each quest asks you to collect a complete armor set for an element: hat, robes, leggings and boots. The quests have no titles in the sources, so I can only point you to them by ID. The sources don't show what comes before or after this chapter.[2]

To finish a quest you need every piece of that element's set. For air, that means Aethermancer's Hat, Aethermancer's Robes, Aethermancer's Leggings and Aethermancer's Boots. The other elements follow the same hat, robes, leggings and boots pattern.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show whether the ATM Star path uses Ars Elemental. Check the pack's quest book to see how it connects to that path.

How do you get started with Ars Elemental?

3 parts

Ars Elemental adds elemental gear that builds on Ars Nouveau items. A good first goal in this pack is to get your hands on the Mark of Mastery, then use it to pick an elemental armor set.[3]

Step 1: Learn about the Mark of Mastery

The Mark of Mastery is the key item behind the armor upgrades and the major focuses in this pack. The mod's own advancement text describes obtaining it by combining the essences with the tribute.[3][4]

Step 2: Upgrade into an elemental armor set

The pack has a quest chapter called basic_armor with one quest per element: a quest in "?" for fire, a quest in "?" for water, a quest in "?" for earth and a quest in "?" for air. Each one asks for the full set of hat, robes, leggings and boots.[2]

Every piece is made with an armor upgrade recipe, and the pack has changed all of them from the mod's version. Here is the Pyromancer's Hat as an example. The other pieces and elements follow the same pattern.[3]

This armor upgrade recipe is changed by the pack.

Each set gives a different bonus, so pick the one that fits how you play:[4]

  • Fire: absorbs some fire-related damage and converts it into mana, and instantly clears fire.[4]
  • Water: absorbs some water-related damage and converts it into mana, and refills your air if you are about to drown.[4]
  • Earth: absorbs some earth-related damage and converts it into mana, and gives you food deep underground if you are about to starve.[4]
  • Air: absorbs some air-related damage and converts it into mana, and highly reduces fall damage.[4]

Step 3: Make storage for your gear

The Trinkets Pouch is the first bag to craft, and the mod's advancement list has an entry for acquiring it.[3][4]

Once you have it, you can upgrade it into the Spellcaster Bag. The pack has changed this recipe, and it is made at an enchanting apparatus.[3]

Tip: The advancement list also has entries for lesser and major foci of each element. Major foci such as Focus of Fire are crafted at an enchanting apparatus from the matching lesser focus and a Mark of Mastery.[3][4]

How does Ars Elemental work?

6 parts

The sources for Ars Elemental describe rituals, crafting stations, armor sets, familiars, enchantments and spell glyphs. This section covers those systems and what the sources say about how they behave in the pack.[3][4]

Rituals

Each ritual has its own ritual item, and the pack has a crafting recipe for each of them. The sources only describe a few of the rituals, so those are the ones explained below.[3][4]

Conjure Island: Archwood Forest creates an island of grass and dirt in a circle around the ritual and turns the area into an Archwood Forest. The island has a radius of 7 blocks, and each Source Gem you use as an augment adds 1 to the radius. Source must be provided nearby while the blocks are generated. Augmenting with an Elemental Archfruit converts the island to a thematic forest.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: ars_elemental:ritual_archwood_forest

Forestation - Archwood places grown Archwood Trees and applies bonemeal in a circular 7x7 area. A Source Gem augment increases the radius by 1. Augmenting with a specific archwood sapling spawns resources tied to that sapling's biome.[4]

Attraction makes the brazier act as a magnet for entities within an 8-block radius. It won't work on players or bosses.[4]

The pack also has recipes for Detection, Repulsion, Fast Squirrels and Zapping. All of them use Flashing Archwood Log. The sources here don't explain how they behave once placed.[3]

Crafting stations

Most of the mod's gear is made at Ars Nouveau stations rather than a normal crafting grid. The recipe dump shows three kinds: the enchanting apparatus, imbuement, and a mod-specific armor upgrade recipe type.[3]

Elemental armor sets

Each elemental armor set absorbs some damage of its element and converts it into mana. Each set also has a bonus of its own. Hold the set-info key on a piece to read its tooltip.[4]

  • Air: highly reduces fall damage.[4]
  • Aqua: refills your air if you're about to drown.[4]
  • Earth: gives food deep underground if you're about to starve.[4]
  • Fire: instantly clears fire.[4]

Familiars and enchantments

A Flarecannon Familiar increases Fire spell damage by 2 and reduces projectile-based spell costs by 20%. Feeding it a Magma Cream gives you a short Fire Resistance buff. You get it by performing the Ritual of Binding near a Flarecannon.[4]

A Siren Familiar increases Water spell damage by 2 and gives the summoner Dolphin Grace II while in water. You get it by performing the Ritual of Binding near a Siren.[4]

The Mirror Shield enchantment can only go on the Enchanter's Shield. It gives a 25% chance per level to reflect a spell projectile while you block. Soulbound stops the enchanted item from being lost on death.[4]

Glyph behavior worth knowing

  • Homing projectiles seek the nearest entity and act like a classic projectile when there are no valid targets. They only target players if augmented with Sensitive.[4]
  • Arc projectiles are affected by gravity, and each Pierce applied makes them bounce once when they hit the ground.[4]
  • The filter glyphs stop a spell from resolving based on the target. There are aerial, aquatic, fiery, insect, summon and undead versions, plus "not" versions that stop the spell unless the target matches.[4]
  • Life Link shares damage you take, and healing the target receives, between you and the target. Sensitive reverses the direction, and Cut severs the link.[4]
  • Charm tries to dominate an enemy. Each Amplify and each point of damage dealt raises the chance of success, and stronger mobs resist more.[4]

Archwood and small utilities

The mod adds its own wood type, Flashing Archwood. You craft Flashing Archwood Sapling from other archwood saplings and Air Essence, and the logs can be turned into Flashing Archwood Wood and Stripped Flashing Archwood Wood blocks.[3]

Trinkets Pouch is the Trinkets Pouch, and Advanced Spell Prism is the Advanced Spell Prism. Both use ordinary shaped crafting recipes.[3]

How do you progress through Ars Elemental?

3 parts

In this pack, the Ars Elemental quests that the quest sources show sit in the "basic_armor" chapter, so the elemental armor is the part of the mod with a quest path. For everything else, the order below comes from the in-pack recipes, not from a quest line.[2][3]

Quest path: the elemental armor sets

The "basic_armor" chapter has a quest for each element. Each quest asks you to obtain every piece of a set: hat, robes, leggings and boots. The quests have no titles in this pack.[2]

The armor-upgrade recipes for these pieces are marked as changed by the pack. The sources don't show the mod's defaults, so go by the in-pack recipe and not by what you remember from other packs. Each piece also uses Mark of Mastery. Here is the Pyromancer's Hat as an example. The other elements and slots follow the same pattern with their own essence and armor slot.[3]

Glyphs and rituals

The mod's extra glyphs, such as Glyph Conjure Terrain, Glyph Discharge, Glyph Conflagrate and Glyph Homing Projectile, come from glyph recipes. The rituals Repulsion, Detection and Zapping all use a Flashing Archwood Log, while Attraction uses a Flourishing Archwood Log from Ars Nouveau. The glyph and ritual recipes listed here are the mod's own, with no pack changes marked.[3]

Tip: Archwood gates a lot of the rituals. You grow Flashing Archwood Log from Flashing Archwood Sapling, and that sapling's recipe combines saplings of the other archwood types, so get your Ars Nouveau archwood trees going before you chase those rituals.[3]

How does Ars Elemental work with other mods?

5 parts

Ars Elemental is built on top of Ars Nouveau in this pack. Many of its recipes use Ars Nouveau crafting types, such as the enchanting apparatus, the imbuement chamber or the glyph recipe, and lean on Ars Nouveau essences and items. Add a few vanilla items and you have the whole picture.[3]

Elemental armor

The fire, water, earth and air armor sets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau armor. You start from an Ars Nouveau hood, robe, legs or boots, add the matching Ars Nouveau essence and a netherite ingot, and finish with the Mark of Mastery. The pack changed all of these armor upgrade recipes.[3]

Pyromancer's RobesChanged by the pack

Armor Upgrade (ars_elemental)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:fire_robes

Every elemental armor piece follows this pattern with its own essence and armor slot.

The Mark of Mastery itself pulls in a full set of Ars Nouveau essences plus Anima Essence from Ars Elemental, so both mods feed into your armor.[3]

The basic_armor quest chapter has one quest per elemental set: a quest in "?" for fire, a quest in "?" for water, a quest in "?" for earth and a quest in "?" for air. Each one asks for the hat, robes, leggings and boots.[2]

Bangles, foci and turrets

The Enchanter's Bangle starts from Ars Nouveau's Ring of Potential, and the pack changed its recipe. The elemental bangles then build on it with an essence and a vanilla item.[3]

Enchanter's BangleChanged by the pack

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:base_bangle

The lesser elemental foci are also pack-changed imbuement recipes built around Ars Nouveau essences. The elemental turrets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau's Enchanted Spell Turret, and the Manipulation Infused Turret uses Ars Nouveau's Focus of Block Shaping.[3]

Prisms and lenses

The Advanced Spell Prism upgrades Ars Nouveau's Spell Prism. The prism lenses are imbuement recipes that take a glyph and Manipulation Essence. The acceleration, deceleration and piercing lenses use Ars Nouveau's own glyphs, while the arc and homing lenses use glyphs from Ars Elemental.[3]

Glyphs and threads

Ars Elemental's glyphs are crafted with the Ars Nouveau glyph recipe type. They mix Ars Nouveau essences, fruit and item scrolls with vanilla items. The filter glyphs, for example, come from Ars Nouveau's Allow and Deny scrolls, and the pack changed the recipe for Glyph Spike. The spell threads Shocking, Spores and Summoning are made from Ars Nouveau's Blank Thread.[3]

Archwood and rituals

The Flashing Archwood Sapling is made by combining Ars Nouveau's other archwood saplings (cascading, flourishing, vexing and blazing) with Air Essence. Its Flashing Archwood Log is a key ingredient for several Ars Elemental rituals, such as Repulsion, Fast Squirrels and Zapping. Forestation - Archwood builds on Ars Nouveau's Forestation ritual.[3]

There is also an alternative way to get Ars Nouveau's Flight ritual, which uses the Flashing Archwood Log.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Ars Elemental?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Ars Elemental appears in the basic_armor quest chapter of this pack. The quests here are all about the elemental armor sets: each quest asks you to hold a full set for a single element, with a hat, robes, leggings and boots.[5]

What each quest asks for

The quests have no titles in the pack files, so they are identified only by their IDs. Each is an item task that asks for the pieces of a single element's set.[5]

Since each quest lists all the pieces of its set as tasks, you will want every piece of an element's armor to complete that quest.[5]

What changed in Ars Elemental between versions?

1 part

Ars Elemental has been part of All the Mods 10 since version 1.9 or earlier. All the Mods 10 2.41 ships Ars Elemental 0.7.2.5.[1]
